Plugged my tab in last night before going to bed, and this morning it refuse to react to me pressing the power button. No lock screen showing up, so I tried the longer press usually used to turn off and on...nothing.
Next thing I tried was plugging it in again, with the charger directly in the wall socker...nope.
Plugged in into my desktop USB...nothing happens.
Now I'm starting to worry, and I'm considering digging out my receipt with the intent of returning it for a repair.
Last thing: Long press (5+ seconds) didn't appear to do anything the first time. But the second suddenly caused it to spring into life and start booting up. Phew.
hold the power button down for 10 seconds, this will force the tab to reboot
Haha, I was about to ask if you turned on the switch at the wall. But you're in Switzerland and I'v never seen a power socket with a Switch over there like we have here in UK
Can't say it'd be the first time forgetting to switch it on at the wall before oing to bed caused me a fright in the morning!
Thanks for the tip, the same happened to me and I thought I had to send it for repair...
wierd there seems to be a growing number of people that this happens to,,,it happened to me twice and I plugged it in to the wall charger and held down the power button and it booted up....funny thing is i never turned it off??? Anyone else??? It may be a bug that Samsung did not fix?
I think that's a bug with setcpu...happened to me couple of times...uninstalled setcpu and everything been fine

Heh, I know, I spent a month over there this Summer, and my two least favourite things there were the chocolate and the cheese. Can't complain about the Birthday party you guys had for me though on the 1st of August (My birthday == Swiss National Day).

My Tab is not rooted and I don't have SetCPU installed, so neither of this can be the cause...

So I got my 32gb grey 10.1 yesterday and today I hate to go in and exchange for another one.
I was playing Galaxy on Fire 2 and the game froze up the whole tablet. I had to hold the power button to get the unit to power off and then it would not power back on. I held the power button forever, no dice. Tried plugging it into the wall and the computer...nothing. Let it sit for a while then tried again.. dead.
Went to best buy and luckily they had more so I just exchanged it...now I get to set it all up again yay!
Huh, maybe you just got a bad one. I played that game a little last night and it ran amazingly smooth. Maybe i didnt play it long enough for it to crap out lol nevertheless, I hope it wont be a widespread issue

It was running great for me too. I actually had just got to the part where you had to buy the full version and did so.. That's where it froze up the whole tablet.
I think i'll stick to snes9x for now just in case this is a chip issue. Did you notice it overheating at all whilst playing it?

Nope, none at all. I got the message that I needed to upgrade to the full version to continue so I hit accept. It went through and my email from the market came through then it froze up and wouldn't recover. After about 10 minutes I held down the power button till it turned off and from there it would never turn back on.
Me too... :-(

I had to exchange mine as well. I actually picked mine up on Wednesday 6/15/11 from Tiger Direct here in Naperville. I was trying to get my Mac to recognize it (FAIL) and the screen would not come back on... I exchanged it on 6/16/11... now seeing your post, I am deeply concerned. I gave up my Asus Transformer for this!!!
i had a similar issue, my went off and will not turn back on, i plugged it in the charger and the battery animation will not come on at all, it was flashing on and off and it it show the battery icon but no animation the screen was turning itself on and off while plugged in.
after about an hour of messing with it, i have to actually hold the charger with my thumb and out of no where it starting charging and i could see the battery animation, then i immediately unplugged it and it turned on right away.
a bit concern with that
Thanks for plugging in our brand new Iconia Tablet. While your heart was in
the right place; unfortunately, the plug was not.
The headphone jack is for outgoing flow only. Next time, try plugging
the power cord into the DC-In Jack instead.
You of all people should be more understanding that charging through
an output does not turn the tablet on...

I still occasional do this, months after purchase. it seems the (natural) place for it.
You think that's bad? About a month ago, my girl friend and I went out of town for a wedding. Since she's one of the brides maid, she woke up early in the morning in the hotel and got ready. I had nothing to do with the wedding, so I just slept in and got up later. Well, I remember in the early morning she woke me up and asked where my shaver was. I just took it out of my bag and gave it to her. Wasn't thinking.
So, later that morning I woke up and began my routine of bathroom, shower, shave, etc. Wonderful wedding. During the reception, she confessed to me that she forgot her shaver and so she used mine to shave her legs and arm pits... and we're not even married yet.
I don't know how you married guys not have a nervous break down after a while.

I'm sure you've put your mouth in worse places on her and vice versa than the razor has been so I'd say it's all good.
As for the headphone jack, did that once...wondered why the eff the tablet didn't charge - never did it again.

I don't understand what's wrong with that
I made that same mistake once but I found out fairly quickly because it wanted to fall out. I was thinking to myself "great one charge and I busted the tablet".
Now I check for the symbol every time.
P.S.: Just wait till you're married. Then you'll have to lock your stuff away.

Tbh, you men should just learn to, well, you know, ASK her to stop touching something of yours and say some reasoning why not to. It shouldn't be that hard.
Then again, I don't understand what's wrong in sharing everything if you're together anyways..

I absolutely refuse to share my toothpaste with DH, who could not care less about my wishes, and also loves to use my facial day cream "because it is really good for my skin and no, of course not, I am not using it because of its anti-wrinkle effect !".

As off-topic as this is, I personally like to share everything together. I place the only boundary on personal information, like I won't read my companion(s) SMS messages or answer their phone unless told to nor do I accept such from them either. But everything else is a fair game; if my companion(s) wanted to use my toothbrush even that'd be just fine if they'd just wash it after they used it.
Though I don't force my preferences on them. If they want to keep some of their stuff stricly personal I don't object, it'd be silly and selfish to do so.

Actually we share everything apart from my razor, toothbrush and our phones but the point stands women still stop asking about stuff just after marriage.
One morning, I noticed I was out of shaving cream. Inspired by desperation, I reached for the wife's purple and pink shaving gel.
"Why, yes, Mr. Oil & Gas Client, that IS a hint of chamomile and bergamot you detect, thank you for noticing!"

Wow .silly man its the couch for you I did that once when it was kinda dark my tab was off and in a hurry. The power plug tip should be large enough to not fit in the sound jack.
So I see this is a common but no one has mentioned static on the screen. When I plug it in, it boots as normal with the nexus animation etc. When it starts it immediately says shutting down, and turns off. However, while it remains plugged in the static on the screen is there and a very very faint buzzing sound from the top/back of the tablet.
Anyone had similar? I've searched and searched but nada.

It might help if you plug it in while off then press power and vol down and hold, it should go to a screen where you can scroll with vol down to shut off.
Then unplug and replug into wall, let charge for while then boot up
Seems to be a common fix, hope this helps
Here's the full collection of "fixes" this issue and those closely related.
Hope it helps!
Thanks for the replies guys, I just took it back and had it replaced where I bought it since I had it less than 12 months. It was a 16GB but they only had 32GB in stock, so guess what I got?!

Hey - I guess there's something to say for buying tech gear at local bricks/mortar places.
Yours is the best "fix" of all!!
Be aware that your reported issue might very well happen with your new N7 as well - it's typical, in fact. One great way to avoid that issue (it's listed as a fix in my Sticky that I refereced earlier) is to occasionally just turn it off - for an hour or two. You can charge it during that time if you wish.
Good luck with your new *better* N7!!
Don't I know it, man! The first one I knocked very gently, yet the screen cracked pretty badly. The second burned out so hopefully this one will be lucky.

Damn good luck, getting a new one with double the gb's, def best solution!
Well just a quick update. The new one also broke, I went to turn it on and it was dead. Did think about getting a nexus 10 but since brick and mortar stores don't sell it, it will be too much effort to return when I inevitably find a light bleeding issue. So F google, I'm typing this from my new iPad!
I woke up one morning last week and my phone was acting like it had a mind of its own. It was activating the navigation buttons over and over again even though it was sitting on the table untouched. This made the phone pretty much useless since every time I opened an app the phone immediately closed it.
To try to fix this I completely wiped the phone and went back to stock. After that I update the touch firmware. This did nothing to fix the problem.
Fast forward about five days later. The phone stopped the behavior as quickly as it has started. Everything was fine with it for about 3 days. I could use every function just like the day I bought it.
BUT now this morning it was back to doing the same exact behavior where it acts like someone is touching the nav buttons constantly. They even light up like someone is pressing them.
Can anyone help me out with this? I am going to end up having to sell it for parts if I can't figure out what is going on.

Looks like your screen is on its way out. Replace it under warranty if u can. My first phone did that after some snow fell in the earpiece area last winter.
After that the top part of the screen was no longer responsive. Before that occured, the phone acted possessed like you're describing

That's what I was afraid of. I am out of warranty which means I am out of luck I think. I was really hoping it was a software issue since it stopped for a few days.
What else do you expect? It called "smartphone" for a reason, right? and your phone happens to be the first one with that kind of intelligence. More like the transformer robot blending into your device heheheheh
Anyway, something wrong with your screen, loose end somewhere?

There doesn't seem like there is anything loose. It wasn't dropped and it started overnight while it was just sitting on a table.

Thats the thing. Some of these screens go bad by defect. I hear its not hard to swap in a replacement. Look into the full assembly with frame so its quicker and easier.
I may buy one as a spare and store it safe in case my screen goes bad after the warranty expires

Same is happening on my old phone, to be specific the digitizer is going out.
Would you believe I woke up this morning and it stopped again?!?! I decided I am going to just sell it for parts. I can't deal with having a phone that is unreliable. Sad day BC I really do like this phone.
Literally just got it an hour ago, installed my old apps and it now is turning off randomly. Sometimes when it's in my pocket, other times when it's sitting on my desk. Makes no sense, google'd and found nothing of any help really.
I've battery pulled tons of times, and sometimes I have to pull two to three times before the damn phone will even power on.
Plugged it in just now, it will show it's fast charging... try to turn it on and it won't turn on.
Taking it back for replacement or maybe a new battery. Just checking if anyone else has this problem.
Just an update: It was a complete dud from the factory.
So after taking it back to the VZW store I agreed to see if ti was just the battery, get home and go to look at the phone. Dead.
Got a brand new one and it's fine now.
