comics viewer

is there a comics viewer (that opens pdfs and jpegs) optimized for touch screen?

damn, why?
Why? Blinkered vision from mobile developers.... "Must develop for iPhone" as it's has the best distrubution and a large install base.
Maybe once Microsoft plays catch up and opens it's WM store things may get better for WM.
People haven't wanted to create a comic reader because it's such a small screen. But now that we have the X1 and Blackstone, hopefully someone will get a push.
I for one would love to have a nice finger-scroll friendly comic viewer...
The problem I think would be being able to read any comic book text on the display. I did a few tests with simple conversions to jpeg and, while the screen is definitely big enough to show almost all the graphical content of a page, the text is really too small to be readable. And if you have to zoom in to every single text box to be ble to read it completely kills the usability of it IMO.
So unless there is a program that manages to overcome this (I dont really see how) I dont think comic book reading will be possible on a machine such as the touch HD.
there are many

Someone has just written a pretty decent comic reader app in the Raphael forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455313
It works pretty well, but since it's written for the Raphael, it relies on a d-pad to navigate between pages. But it's still possible to use it on the Blackstone if you use the arrows on the softkeyboard.

Rss reader

Anyone know a good RSS reader application for the snap?
I googled a bit but didn't find anything worth mentioning.
Viigo is what I use, free and does RSS, Podcasts, offline reading etc http://viigo.com
I rather like the "RSS Hub" thats included with the Sprint Snap. Basic, but functional. I'm always open to improvement, of course.
I second RSS Hub or you could do what I do and use Google reader. Then I set Google reader set as my home page in my browser.

I tried RSS Hub and i'm verry pleased with this app.
Google Reader
I definitely second Google Reader. Since I regularly use four different computers, I like having the continuity of feeds between them. (I'm also a fan of GMail/Contacts and Google Calender.

Hi all,
Just change my Nike (Touch Dual) for a Snap, so you are going to see me around here...
I looked for a good rss reader for a while, and I will stick to SPB News. Nice and simple, with OPML support. You can set it to use free connections only, and to locate the cache on the SD. Give it a look.

Viigo is probably the best, and its free http://www.viigo.com
Bupah, I think you did mention you liked Viigo, lol.
Viigo is powered by advertisement, and i find it too stuffy when it comes to UI. But, he, like you said, it's free and that is a point.

Yeah, the ads are tiny and usually very relevant to the feeds so I dont mind them. But yeah, I did mention Viigo lol.. I just like it. I tried nearly every feed reader and keep Viigo for its stability and its twitter support
RSS Reader Widget
For those using WM 6.5 (or above) I am developing an RSS Reader Widget. Anyone willing to test it out and give me feedback would be appreciated.
Note : this is a widget not a CAB, so you have to do this to get the widget installed :
In order to get your widget to install by clicking on it, you need to create this association by modifying the registry on the device to include the following values:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\riapp] "EditFlags"=dword:00010000
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\riapp\Shell\Open\Command] @="wmwidgetinstaller.exe %1"

RSS Hub on T-Mobile Dash 3G
I installed RSS Hub (found linked from this forum) on my Dash 3G and I get the error "Can't find RSSHub (or one of its components)". It worked in one of the cooked ROMs I tried but for now I'd like to stick to T-Mobile's official 6.5 release.
Any ideas to get this to work?

I couldn't get RSS Hub to work but NewsBreak is working perfectly.
NewsBreak is just the original name of RSS Hub - see http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/support/kb/idx.php/39/383/article/
Same thing right here. Anyone have any idea? I'm using WM 6.5 (original rom by factory default). Would like to stick to the original ROM, but I miss RSSHub, really a cool no-nonsense application.

Have you tried NewsBreak as I suggested in post #14?
What is RSS Hub? Is it the same as NewsBreak? RSS Hub is a version of NewsBreak that has been customized per HTC's specifications for inclusion on their Windows Mobile devices.
There are some minor differences between the interface for NewsBreak and the interface for RSS Hub but the overall functionality is exactly the same.

It's available on the Marketplace. Just do a search on the word "office" and it finds it. (Did for me anyway!)
does it worth it the 2010 Office? Is there big improvements?

As far as I've read on other sites, no. People are slating it for being exactly the same as previous versions. You'd be better checking the microsoft site to see what improvements (if any) are in there.
i've got it installed and it is pretty much the same as the old version, though i'd say scrolling through excel files is easier now but it all still looks the same, apart from the new icons. The only new addition is SharePoint workspace which i haven't really used
ok thanks, i think i will wait for the 2011... or the upgrade of windows m7...
OneNote Mobile was supposed to have been improved in Office Mobile 2010, but the Beta is exactly the same as the 2007 version. Maybe the improvements will appear in the final version.
Does anyone know if 2010 will allow you to edit powerpoint documents? I'd find that really useful.
I have installed the Office Mobile 2010 but when I restart my phone, it crash the services.exe so no choice but to revert back to the old Office Mobile.
Anyone got the same problem also?

I dont normally look at marketplace, I thought it would only download to main memory. I want to put it on storage card.

As far as I understand that's exactly what it does, although apparently when your main memory is full you can choose whether to remove old apps or install to storage card. Why you can't choose in the first place is beyond me.
That's "What's new" according to MS:
http://www.microsoft.com/Office/2010/en/mobile/default.aspx
As I see it the major inovations are Sharepoint, Outlook and copy/paste across apps.
Office 2010 is practically the same thing as far as I can see. On a mobile phone the main thing that office should do best is document viewing on the go. its not too good for that and unfortunately the iphone is better for viewing. The furthest zoom isn't far enough. The zoom levels are quite far apart and it's not fast or fluid. After that, it should have a function to edit a document. Quite a weak effort imho.
It has threaded view of all emails (not just Exchange) ... similar to sms feature ...
http://www.wmexperts.com/latest-version-outlook-features-threaded-email-messages
I think most of the main updates are around email and will only work with Exchange 2010.

Yes - I tested this and it worked quite well... You select the relevant text box and then you can edit the text in a simple text editor window... It also worked very well on a fairly complex PPTX file (9MB) with lots of text animations.

Best PDF reader

Just throwing out a line to get some ideas on the best PDF viewer, possibly with annotation (although not required). I'm looking for something fast and smooth that can navigate larger documents, etc.
I like the polaris office one, at least better than adobe reader, which seems sluggish.
+1 for Polaris Office. Not perfect, but faster than the Adobe Reader app.
Hmm, I might have to try to find a copy of Polaris, it has disappeared from my app list in the midst of various ROM changes.
Repligo PDFReader
I use it to have clients sign contracts right on the screen. But has so many functions.. Check out the Video
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.cerience.reader.app&feature=search_result
It is $4.99 but well worth it.
+1
Polaris Office
Repligo +1 for me. And for read the include Acer Lumiread.
At some of android news website I saw a test of pdf readers and the winner was ezPDF reader. Maybe you'll like it (sorry for my english)

Thanks, I'm trying it out now. Seems pretty good, overall.
Did you ever try ezPDF? I've been using Repligo for about a month and I love it! It was definitely worth the $4.99 (actually, when I bought it, it was $1.99 @ the Amazon Appstore).
I looked forever for the perfect android PDF app for reading books and ezPDF won hands down. Amazing control, bookmaking, and text rendering. I couldn't believe how many of the apps weren't up to par.
Sorry to drudge up a moderately old post, but I have a question about ezPDF. Can you rotate documents? I scan a lot of stuff into PDF, and sometimes I need to rotate the pages on the fly?
Also, does it support adding notes (written with stylus) and bookmarks? I've seen other posts and some say that it has this feature, others complain it doesn't.
Thanks,
-PW

I do not see rotation in the settings anywhere.
And it does support adding notes, annotations. Just tap and hold screen and chose "free hand". It will ask u if u want to make a copy for annotating which is great so u dont mark up the only copy u have. It will create another copy if u like to mark up. Once u chose, then write as much as u want. Good program.
i'm working with lots of PDFs - non-editable, editable, with markups, making markups - and right now the best reader and marker for PDF for me is RepliGo.
The PDF Viewer from Picsel Smart Office is as well very good and very fast but without marking capabilities.
Picsel Smart Office has as well the best excel, word and powerpoint readers/editors.

Google Docs online has drop downs. It's alright, but it's free and the huge bonus is your worksheets are online.
You probably already know this, but Office doesn't use drop downs anymore. They have replaced them with browser like tabs. So instead of a menu, an entire page appears. Great improvement IMO. I would think others will follow their lead.

Look at the e-Droid-Cell Pro application from google play store. This Android application does display DDL (drop down lists) in Excel spreadsheets...
I think the app is called cloudon. Its an actual Microsoft office suite but the catch is the its cloud based and can only use it while connected to the net. Also only other downside is that files need to be saved to a cloud service like Google drive, box, or dropbox. Its basically an online server that only run official Microsoft and can be a little hard to navigate now and again but it does the job for really specific operations and its free an only for tablets

Look for eDroidCell Pro in Google Play. This app does support DDL in Excel 2003 format. DDL creation is done with Microsoft Excel and then save the file as 2003 format (.xls instead of .xlsx file extension)... The dev is also giving great support!
