Hi,
what you guys this is the best web browser for HTC Touch?
I think the Picsel Browser is very good.
Pls. tell us your best browser.
Thanks!
I've been using Opera.
I think opera mini right now but I think skynet or opera mobile 9 soon will be in the coming months. Both promising full browsing and skynet will be free
I think you mean skyfire browser.
Can some one tell me the difference between:
Picsel and Opera?

Yeah, no Skynet browser please. We turn over control of our web browsing to them and before you know it they'll be self aware and launching our nukes against us. Judgment day. Then they'll activate Arnold to come back in time and kill you, because you are the future leader of mankind.
Ahhh, which browser
I actually like all of them IE, Opera, NetFront...
I have found that depending on the particular website, one will work better than the other. IE works just fine for a lot of websites and has the best compatibility. Opera is great for certain websites that IE just can't display properly. NetFront works best on (poorly written) websites that have too many damn frames and cutsie html features that only impress the person who made the website. The beauty is you can install and use more than one browser to make sure you get into the websites you need. (iPhone can't do that...) I, btw, need to link into my work with Citrix and the Touch is the only phone I know that can do it. I am the envy of my colleagues at work!

Skyfire looks amazing if it ever gets released.

I signed up for the beta but nothing yet.
Have you checked out the video preview of Opera Mobile 9.5. It looks great and the notes says it supports flash, unfortunately they didn't demo that in the video.

Yes! Awesome! It's a great new world we live in! Every week something pops up that raises the bar. The hard part is waiting! HA!
Incidentally, I just loaded No2Chem's WM6.1clean ROM and IE seems to do everything better and faster.

I was just playing around with the transition effects in Ultimate Launcher, and I was thinking how cool it would be to have an ebook reader that was finger friendly (slide to turn page) and used the same transitions for page turns. I imagine you could just slide your finger across the screen and the page would curl and turn, or fade, or whatever effect you choose. I have no programming skills at all, and maybe I'm the only one who'd be interested in this, but it sure seemed like a cool idea.
I like the sound of that!!
There are all too few really good e-book apps out there. I would love something that would in corporate this. Why stop at turning the page? Why not use the gestures from HTC Album. For example to turn the page slide left or right, to change between landscape and portrait reading use the rotate gesture from HTC Album, maybe even zoom in and out using HTC Albums zoom in out gesture.
Good idea, wish I had the skill to get the ball rolling???!!!
diigibio
Also sounds like a good idea to me. Right now I used Microsoft reader but it's far from the best solution.
Picsel Proview
today i use picsel Proview.. to see documents (and .pdf)
it uses zoom capabilities... but there´s no such thingie like transition effects. AND its a memory hog.
it would be nice if A_C come with this.. using the S2* API.
omg.. this make sloth happy!
=P~
For ebooks, i use mostly Mobipocket reader - desktop version can import from a few popular formats (pdf, html, txt. Rtf and doc need MS office to be installed :/ )and create ebooks in its own format, which then can be sent to your phone/pda. It supports turning the page forward/back by touching the right/left edge of the screen, so you can read without using stylus or dpad. However if you want to open another book, you'll probably still need to use the stylus, or at least a fingernail
But something with more finger-friendly interface (especially for opening files) like S2V, iContact of pocketCM would be nice. And of course some cool transition effects wouldn't hurt too
Maybe we should ask A_C to create another good program from "Slide2" Series
and call it Slide2Read S2R ...!!!!

I really wish I had any skill at coding and could do this myself. I think it would be a cool program. There probably just isn't enough demand to make it worth anybody's time. It was a nice idea though...

u can also get this DVOLPAD (some name like tht) to read. It turns the volume keys into page up page down buttons....helps with MS Reader
The developer of BeyondPod - possibly one of the best podcatcher/RSS readers available - has decided to focus more on the Android platform and less on WinMo. As anyone who has tried to use BeyondPod on any of the 6.5 builds knows, there are a number of issues with the way it renders feeds (missing scroll bars, no text size control, no finger scrolling, etc). Basically the program needs to be updated to support the new version of IE in 6.5.
This would also be an oppurtunity for anyone interested in the future of BeyondPod on WinMo to take over its development. The project is open source, and there are a number of possible improvements that could make this app even better (feed search, apptodate support, homescreen plugin, etc). The dev would be more than happy to have the help.

Anyone interested in tackling this project? Or is there an even better alternative out there for those of us who want to get our podcast on?
No one cares? Or maybe I'm one of the few that do?
Guess I need to teach myself some programming skills . . .

Speedreader is no comparison to beyondpod. Beyondpod is the best software i've found by far for managing audio podcasts, multiple auto downloads, intuitive interface and integrated player with great playback and bookmarking features. I'm surprised more people are not aware of this awesome software and if anything out there is close or better I would like to know. I would almost abandon 6.5 just for Beyondpod, but 6.1 scrolling is so terrible that i cant do it. Beyondpod is one piece of software that would actually be worth paying for if it weren't already offered for free.

Was there an update? I have had at least 15 6.5 roms flashed and the content view in beyondpod was not working therefore rendering it useless for downloading. Sometimes you could see content view the first time you brought it up, but it would not refresh if you scrolled and would be blank the next time.
I would be up to adding to a bounty if necessary

Oh, I dont notice this issue, as what you mentioned work perfectly fine, (Surprisingly) on my device.
I will check out and see how it goes.
Cheers.
Hi All,
jeremy89632 is right, if you just use your Dpad then the error doesn't occur. Another option I have found is that if you use the update and download option then that works as well.
I'm a .NET programmer and I think this is written in .NET. Let me take a peek at the source code for a few days and then I'll let you know if it is something I might want to tackle. I do a TON of development work in .NET but nothing on the mobile platform yet - this might be interesting. Plus, I've been looking for a good RSS/podcast reader myself!
/Chimp (Tom)
Tom, Def check it out it rocks for audio podcasts.
I seem to have found a temp workaround, which tells me a solution cannot be far off. When I go into content view and cannot see the content or it is messed up. I just switch my touch pro to landsacpe and the view is fine abd I can use the dpad to scroll. I will ususally just shift right back to landscape and the view remains perfect but dpad wont scroll until I first touch the screen, then it will dpad scroll with no problem. I can click and download feeds with no problem. I reduced the large text size in beyondpod settings. All the podcasts manage and playback fine but the volume is much lower than normal hard to hear even with mediaplayer and system volume at max. Volume in my other apps and mediaplayer is very loud as normal.
It it more complex than I thought. Also, is this only for a SmartPhone? Or is also for a WM Professional device? When I finally got it loaded into VS2008 it only showed a SmartPhone device.
I'll keep playing with it.
Chimp (Tom)
Definitely PPC touchscreens. On 6.1 it was pretty flawless and fairly finger friendly.
Hmm... It is definately showing up as a Smartphone only when I load it. I'll have to figure out how to switch it over to a PPC device (and also support a SmartPhone).
Well, as this app is for the touchscreen users, it is easier to squash bugs for users rather than to create a smartphone version and cause issues.

I downloaded the code, as well... I got it to successfully compile and run in the WM6.5 Pro emulator (with the stated problems). You need to change the target platform to WM 6 Pro.
Like you said, the code is really complex, but I kind of understand why, it's a great program, and I've missed it since I finally got 6.5 on my i910...
I don't have a lot of spare time, but I'll try to tackle this thing...
Just throwing out a line to get some ideas on the best PDF viewer, possibly with annotation (although not required). I'm looking for something fast and smooth that can navigate larger documents, etc.
I like the polaris office one, at least better than adobe reader, which seems sluggish.
+1 for Polaris Office. Not perfect, but faster than the Adobe Reader app.
Hmm, I might have to try to find a copy of Polaris, it has disappeared from my app list in the midst of various ROM changes.
Repligo PDFReader
I use it to have clients sign contracts right on the screen. But has so many functions.. Check out the Video

It is $4.99 but well worth it.

Repligo +1 for me. And for read the include Acer Lumiread.

Thanks, I'm trying it out now. Seems pretty good, overall.
Did you ever try ezPDF? I've been using Repligo for about a month and I love it! It was definitely worth the $4.99 (actually, when I bought it, it was $1.99 @ the Amazon Appstore).
I looked forever for the perfect android PDF app for reading books and ezPDF won hands down. Amazing control, bookmaking, and text rendering. I couldn't believe how many of the apps weren't up to par.
Sorry to drudge up a moderately old post, but I have a question about ezPDF. Can you rotate documents? I scan a lot of stuff into PDF, and sometimes I need to rotate the pages on the fly?
Also, does it support adding notes (written with stylus) and bookmarks? I've seen other posts and some say that it has this feature, others complain it doesn't.
Thanks,
-PW

I do not see rotation in the settings anywhere.
And it does support adding notes, annotations. Just tap and hold screen and chose "free hand". It will ask u if u want to make a copy for annotating which is great so u dont mark up the only copy u have. It will create another copy if u like to mark up. Once u chose, then write as much as u want. Good program.
i'm working with lots of PDFs - non-editable, editable, with markups, making markups - and right now the best reader and marker for PDF for me is RepliGo.
The PDF Viewer from Picsel Smart Office is as well very good and very fast but without marking capabilities.
Picsel Smart Office has as well the best excel, word and powerpoint readers/editors.
Anyone here is watching CES 2012 on facebook?
Right now that lady is demo-ing the Windows 8 Tablet, i like the original idea about Windows 8 is bringing Metro UI to Desktop, but i think the marketplace / apps for Desktop is something stupid to me.
I think Microsoft has gone too far and almost completely forgotten about PC hardcore User. Ebay apps when we have IE/Firefox/Chrome for Ebay.com?
Maybe i am wrong over here, because until now i have no clue about the idea behind Marketplace for PC.
What do you guys think?
i think such idea of app market on the W8 is for the tablet, that is ok though, as long as they figure out away to port win32 software to run on apps, i would be the first one to get in line to get the tablet, other than that, i am good with my asus transformer

For tablets, maybe netbooks with a little screen, its a good OS. But... on a 24 inch Monitor? Serious, I tested the preview and in Metro the handling with mouse and keyboards sucks! It even interrups the productivity flow in the "desktop app". If I am on the classic desktop and want to open a programm from the start menu: Why do I have to go back to the start screen and type.
This is so unintuitive and doesn't suit to the desktop design at all...
the thing is, Microsoft has focus more on the Tablet than our - PC user.
You can see almost everything on the Keynote of Steve on CES 2012 (which has just ended ) is focus on the mobility of the technology nowday.
Tablet with ARM/ x64 / x86 , nVIDIA Tegra are all cool. But hand down, they didn't notice anything about the original idea of PC , yes, when i mean the mouse and the keyboard.
The idea behind Marketplace for Windows 8 PC is something still new. And i hope, the marketplace is like a place where we can search all kind of applications for PC around the web without having google/bing it around.
Don't get me wrong , i am a Microsoft fan and i own a Windows Phone.

Thats the point! The marketplace is just for Metro apps and I don't understand why I should use an app if I have a internetbrowser (ebay, etc). The apps are optimized for small screens so it's just annoying to swipe with your mouse or use some strange shortcuts to show up the menu bar if you have enough space to display everything you need.

Yes. The thing is, there is no point from moving to use an app to control the web-based service like Ebay or Amazon. I mean, if you have a touch screen, you would love to do that because i know that typing on the touch screen is such pain in the ass.
But with PC is different, a mouse and keyboard are far more advanced than a touch screen. We have been using our browser to do most stuffs, we don't need an app to do that. For example, i can have IE9 , and i can do most stuffs from betting on Ebay to buying stuffs on Amazon without having anything extra installed except for some flash plug-ins. So why choosing install many different apps and make your PC slower while you can get everything just by a click of a mouse on the icon of the browser?
Many people would say to me that if i don't like it then don't use it, but that isn't a point. It is fine that Microsoft try to make a buck over tablets , but they seem to be forgetting about PC user like us, i hear nothing about the original PC in the keynote except some new Laptops and Intel's new path for the future. That's why i am little bit disappointed.
CES is all about what is cool and hip today. Right now that is mobile devices so MS's CES pitch focuses on Windows 8. MS is leaving CES after this year so they can focus on getting the message they want out without having to follow the hot theme and control better the presentation of their message. You can expect that message to be heavily based around HTML 5 and web based apps to the detriment of those that develop windows apps.
I'm new to Windows 8 in general so be gentle...

Agree completely here. I don't even use those types of apps on my Xoom, if its a browser based service or app, I just use the Xooms browser. It's a real browser, no need for an app.

I disagree a bit here, the way a touch screen is used is different than that of a mouse, it shouldn't be seen as a replacement for a mouse. Multi touch functions and gestures are what touch screen input excels at. However, emulating simple mouse input, navigating the screen or cursor, etc.. eh, not so much. I added a BT mouse to my Xoom and many things are MUCH faster using it rather than touching the screen, but some things are easier and faster using the touch screen.

I see this as much more than MS looking to make a buck on tablets. As power of mobile devices increases, as "cloud" (I hate that term) storage becomes more prevalent, its going to be very important to have a seamless experience across devices. For example, I use Google Music and Chrome. No matter what device I'm on, Xoom, desktop, laptop, all of my playlists and bookmarks are the same. This is where I think MS is going with Windows 8, they're looking to have their OS be everywhere and work the same (or similar) no matter what device you're on. Or at least be flexible enough to do that.

lol no.
With multitouch you can zoom, rotate, roll and that's it, with a precision that is useless for most task but browser internet and catalog some photos.
For example, let's say that we have a picture of 2000x1500 and we want to select a square of 256x256... with multitouch you can't do that.
In fact, clicking a single link can become a tedious work of zoom then click.

Yea, i got your point man. Everything has its own advantage. Something which is so great to use the multi-touch. I never say that the multitouch would be a replacement for the mouse anytime soon. But my point, was like, Something which is designed for Multi-Touch might not be a great deal for mouse and keyboard.
the word "advanced" here , i mean , you can do more stuffs with a keyboard than a touch-screen, or the keyboard and mouse give you more advantages than the touch-screen give you. Don't get me wrong man, if you do photoshop , you would know that you can do stuffs with the picture by mouse and press the short cut on the keyboard for special effect at the sametime, which is can't be done by multi-touch, Because Multi-Touch is like a combination of mouse and keyboard , for the benifit of portable device.
But with Multi-Touch , you can also do stuffs that you would not ever archieve with a mouse. Well, you know what i mean, like drawing. But the limitation of technology nowday can't take that advantage *yet*. the screen is not that sensitive enough to make a perfect drawing like with Pencil and paper.
This agrument seem to be valid, keep it up man. , i don't hate multi-touch device, because i have myself a HTC Titan and probably a Windows 8 Tablet soon.
ok, you are a hardcore user, then just keep using the desktop. why are you mad that other people will get to use metro.
Tablets and apps are popular nowadays,so you cant ignore it. That is why windows 8 integrated metro. If you dont like it,you dont have to use it. Windows 8 desktop is bringing a bunch of new features as well. The OS is leaner and faster, and more secure.
Now i realized that we forgot about Kinect for PC... Are they trying to have us buy the kinect to use it for the metro UI on PC?

Isn't the idea of Marketplace that it will have all types of Apps and full applications like Photoshop, office etc? Similar to the Mac App Store?
Hopefully this doesn't have much effect on the gaming industry, mainly shooters. First, they were dumb'd down for consoles, now they could be severely dumb'd down for Tablets. I shudder at the thought.
There will probably be plenty of crossovers from other touch platforms (iOS, Android), but it shouldn't affect the *real* games.

Microsoft has something called " Windows PC Game Marketplace" *if i am not wrong* already.
I have heard about it, i have seen it (Operation Flashpoint : Red River) but i never used it. Valve's Steam is the solution most people looking for. Even Origin can't compare to Steam.
