Just got a G1 yesterday with a cracked front screen for £15 loaded up SuperF 1.0 from here benbuchacher.com
device is rooted etc got the custom recovery menu installed but it seems pretty slow.
For instance it must take going on a minute plus to boot to the home screen, then some apps freeze and give me the wait or end message.
I've used setcpu to up the cpu it does seem a little faster but nowhere near the same as the standard rom.
can anyone advise me on whats the best/fastest rom to use?
also how can i get rid of the t-mobile bootscreen on startup?

Ive noticed that if I just soft reset it is fine but after I use the Phone app it will show up 3 times in the tasks list but just 1 entry in the processes list. Im not sure why, I have whittled my install down to just the bare bones and tried to add most features with reg tweaks...
Im running a cooked tmob-2.26 rom by xelencin, It is a great rom for a tmob wizard, Im loving it, the phone app skin tmob had was a 3 color abomination, I saw that and was about ready to give the phone back, The blue one(default I assume) has this cool little window thingy that I dont understand quite yet but I think its a speed dial thingy of some sort...
but why am I getting 3 instances of it, this bug has followed me thru 1 rom upgrade from 1,50 - 2.26 tmob-legit, then the same rom cooked a bit, and 3 reinstalls of that same xelecin-cooked rom and each time I have used less and less apps, and tried not to do anything phone related and Im still getting this...Anybody else?
Im a total noob to the htc scene, but Ive been around the PDA/wireless scene since like 1996 with a 3com 3x and a Motorola startac3(with the indiglo screen and internet), A piggy back battery for the fone and a 150$ hand built cable, from a company who had to "buy" the rights to use the connectors on both ends. I was a palm os man till the last 3 years or so I used both for a while and now im stuck to the MS once again...
anybody else noticed 3 tasks tied to 1 process?

every hero i have tried is slow.. or gets painfully slow after a day of use..
anyone found any hero that works and is fast?
and im on a class 6 card.
im with you on that one.
i actually want to know if its something i am doing wrong.
i mean im installing the HERO ROMS and partitioning the SD cards as directed but 3 HERO ROMS i ahve tried have been so slow that they dont even respond to my finger touches to move over even if i try really slow and hard not a quick flick.
i installed the Evil Hero Rom 1.3x last night and this mornign after i took it off the charger at 10am by 1pm i was down to 23% batter life WTF and NO blue tooth, NO wifi and NO GPS at all and i wasnt even usign the phone it was just sitting on my desk while i took care of work.
i removed that ROM and installed the JACHeroSki-v1.4-sapphire that just came out today and its just as slow so i removed that one and tried
Qteknology Hero (WWE Dump) for G2 Magic-Voda 32B CC v1.3b and same thing just as slow.
all 3 HERO roms i have tried are so slow on my Mytouch that they just get HTC splash screen reboots and do not respond to my finger touches for anything.
so at this time i really do not think its teh ROMS per say but something I am doing wrong because i havent seen anyone else complaining like me, a few people saying quirks and some saying they lag a BIT but not as slow as i experience.
are you guys on 32A?? I just installed the MyHero rom and its the fastest one ive tried so far. time stamp issue still prevalent though
im on 32B and i have always made sure i do a complete wipe using the recovery image first before flashing the new roms
i mean i dont even know much regarding COMPCACHE and SWAP ROMS
some say COMPCACHE and some say SWAP
both ROMS alwyas have details included that state you MUST have 3 partitions setup fat32/ext2,3/Linux-swap
i have made sure in the recovery image that i format the SD card to 3 partition first and then once that is done i copy the HERO rom i want and renameit to update.zip and then i perform a WIPE DATA and then APPLY UPDATE.ZIP
and i have tried ROMS with COMPCACHE (the Evil Hero ROM) and then i also tried the one with SWAP
which ones should i be using? what is the difference between compcache and swap anyways?
NO! Do they even exist for the 32B Magic?
I've tried the original Fatal1ty Hero rom, the Qteknology and the evil one (both this week). For me, they are not responsive enough to use on a day to day basis. If I have to wait more than 5 seconds for my phone to do something it quickly gets annoying, I always end up going back to CyanogenMod ...
ya im on 32B.. and had no problem with installs .. just dog slow.
and i have 32MB of swap on a class 6 card.

i also go back to cyanogen
only thing i can suggest to possibly speed some things up on a class 6 sd card is to swich your swap size to 40mb... that seems to be the sweet spot for me, although its still unusable... i'm currently testing hero roms without apps2sd (or trying to at least)... from my experience any ROM runs faster on the mytouch with apps2sd disabled...

Actuaully an update i am using this Hero ROm
(V1.3b) Qteknology HTC HERO PORT from WWE [1.76.405.6] 32b
in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540745
and it was slow at first but after everything cached it seems to be doing fine.
its not too terribly slow and i also increased the Processor speed to Max 527 to help as well and i noticed a difference.
i can actually use it now and i dont really get many HTC Black screens except when i attempt to edit the weather widget.

"Only draw back is the blue tooth doesnt pair with my cars bluetooth hands free system in my BMW"
I'm jealous. Wish I had a Beamer.
I too am running Qtek's ROM and it's incredibly fast for me. It seems that each Hero ROM has a slightly different reaction to each phone. My Mom's Mytouch could not run the Hero ROM from QTek cuz the screen went pixelized. I however, had no problems. Strange.
I've been running Fatal1ty's Hero rom and is fast enough for daily useage
setup:
bypassed his swap setting (always deny upon flash) and ran the new swapper app
I do have a swap partition to work with the new version swapper app
delete stock, mail, peep, footprints (and a few more I can't remember)
did the priority mods found here
I'm still trying to figure out why wifi-tether won't start up on Evil's Hero rom.
Both my myTouch'es have had no luck with Qtek (pixelation).
And ported version of Drizzy's still gets pixelated.
Hey is it normal for the mytouch to go back to the home screen kinda slow? Like, if im in the music app with music playing and then jump to the brower wile the music playing and then if I decide to hit the Home Key. The home screen takes like 2 to 4 seconds to appear.
I also notice that my IM client cant keep me signed in. Is this a android OS problem? or what?
The rom Im on is CyaMod 4.2.8.1 Which is supose to be fast and all and it is but comin from a iphone where the home screen loaded instantly is what Im kinda use to. Even on WinMobile phones the home screen loads rather instantly.
Any advice?
Thanks?
you can can choose to keep the im signed in or not so that is your fault and not android
you need to overclock the phone to keep it nice and smooth and try clearing the cache every now and then
my own mytouch 3g is fast and better than the iphone

Actually my IM is set to keep me signed in but it doesnt. Im pretty sure the problem im having is more complicated then putting a check mark in the keep me signed in box. LOL
But anyway, maybe clearing the cache will do the trick which is something I dont do too often.
I do run advance task manager and I frequently close programs I dont use. I allways have at least 25mb of mem left but backing back to the home screen is allways 4 to 5 seconds delay. I even tried removing all my icons from the other screen and only have total 5 icons on the 1st screen.
Any other advice would be appreciated thanks guys.
mine is not rooted and the battery life sucks, overclocking will help but it'll run the battery harder. The bottom line is tmobile doesn't want to make a phone with very much ram because then u might be too satisfied with your device and not want a new one every few months.
Wow so is this a hardware/mytouch3g issue?
I tried different roms from stock to herosense to now the latest dohnut but everynow and then the home screen lags to appear especially when im multi tasking on it like music/webrowse/google maps all at the same time WITH weatherbug/twidroid in the background.
The phone just starts to run a lil slower especially when I need to back out to the home screen. As for the IM problem. I think the IM looses connection or is closed automattically from the background when other software require more memory.
I had a G1 on cupcake for a limited time before and I dont remember it having this problem. I dont know. but if theres any suggestions to kinda get rid of this problem please let me know.
EDIT
As for overclocking I allways thought the newer cyanmods roms had overclocking at default. Even with overclock it seems the problem is with memory.
i have the same issue on both g1 and the magic as well...def not as smooth as the iphone....sometimes too many widgets will cause slow downs on the screen loading i have noticed....just part of multitasking, making it a tad slow...and yeah..the cyanogen is oc'ed by default
Hi,
I have been using my HD2 with android for a long time without too much trouble. Not long ago, while still using SD builds I would find that my phone would often freeze, this would happen almost always while surfing the web or playing games or while putting the phone under heavy load. Using nand builds the issue has gotten even worse. Every single build I have tried is almost certain to freeze during the initial setup, even if I leave it alone and give it a long time to setup and stabilize. I have been using a stock gingerbread NAND build for a week or so and it just won't be stable. It freezes during games or surfing the web mostly (though upon first installing the build, almost anything might trigger a freeze, including scrolling through a menu). I have tried task 29, and many builds but they are all giving me this issue. Even the last WINMO rom I tried did the same. I am completely baffled by this and have no idea what could be wrong. Does any one have any advise?
Thanks
Pray that you're still under warranty???
If it does it in winmo, try flashing your original stock (From HTC) ROM. This will remove HSPL and any & all customisations. Make sure the phone is in it's 'from factory' state. If it STILL has freezing issues, you need to get it repaired. If not. Start installing ROMs again from scratch.
Hope This Helps.
Thanks for the response. Yeah, I have done everything except resort to the stock ROM.
I have noticed some interesting things about the crashing behavior. If the phone has been left alone for a while, it will be able to browse the web/ play games or do intensive tasks without crashing for a decent amount of time, however once it crashes , it will very likely crash right away after I reboot. I only notice the phone (battery) is quite warm around the time it starts the crashing. I hope my hardware is screwed up, would hate to give up this phone . I bought my phone on ebay, so I don't think I have warranty either. ugh
wtf, there is seriously no one else who has heard of this?
Bump.
Are you Overclocking it? Try Underclocking it to see if it is more stable. Maybe your hardware is failing. User currentWidget to see your current usage.
Maybe you're using too much ram. o.o
The phone will get really laggy if you use up all the ram, so clear it up with a task killer.
No overclock, running at 998 (stock) and smartass governor. Tried interactive governor and still does it.
Its just strange that it crashes left and right from doing anything when I first install a build and after a few reboots it stabilizes enough to be rock solid for all tasks except playing something like angry birds or surfing the web. I tried running quadrant 10 times in a row to stress the phone and it did fine.
Could the phone be overheating? I notice its almost always warm or hot when it crashes.

Actually this is exactly what you should do. Flash with a Stock ROM then Take29 then start over. Remember the Stock ROM has more than just the system ROM, it overwrite your RADIO and other stuff also that are not touched by custom ROM. so if you have some corruption at radio ROM the stock ROM should fix it.
- When I mean Underclocking: set MAX Frequency to 800 Mhz and see if it is more stable. just to find the root cause by elimination

I'll try to cap it at 800 Mhz and see if I can cause a crash. Regardless Its probably best to flash to stock rom.
Here is what I think I'll do:
Flash to stock rom.
Reflash HSPL
Task 29
Flash new radio
Flash MAGLDR
Flash new android rom
So I flashed 2.10.1 stock rom from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655653
And it did not remove HSPL...though it reset my radio to 2.08.
So far things are not looking good. On the very first boot the stock winmo rom crashed and rebooted. Should I flash another winmo rom?
EDIT:
I've reflashed HSPL and also flashed the latest winmo stock rom with Radio 2.15 now. Running Android off the SD card, 2 minutes of angry birds is all it took it to freeze it. I'm starting to believe there must be some hardware damage or something, this is making no sense.
Even surfing the web in the stock winmo rom caused a reboot, the phone is getting quite hot too.
Having exact same problem... should i warranty it and send it in?

If you are lucky enough to still have warranty, do it. I don't have that option sadly.
So I have pretty much narrowed down the cause of the problem to overheating. I let the phone cool down to about 25c and then I ran angry birds and surfed the web and it didn't crash and I played for about 15 minutes. When the temp approaches about 37-40c, the chances of a crash become pretty high, once it crashes it will keep crashing left and right until I let it cool back down.
All evidence now points to an overheating problem. Especially because it is only intensive tasks which seem to cause crashes and only the more CPU/GPU intensive tasks can cause the phone to heat up fast.
Anyone else dealt with this issue? I have no other way to prevent this than to stop heavy use of the phone when it gets warm. This is ridiculous, next thing I know, I'll be walking around with a desktop CPU heatsink mounted on my HD2...
First post WOOO
I have been having a similar issue with my HD2 (Telstra). I was running darkstone on the SD card but occasionally my phone would freeze then I would have to restart a few times to get it working (or leave it for a while). I decided to install the android desire stock ROM using NAND. I changed the radio according to the recommended 2.15.50.14.. after I did this I had a lot of problems with frequent freezing even before installing the new ROM (so during the process). I did successfully install the stock ROM but I now have the issue where if I enable internet usage within about 5 minutes my phone will freeze (but only if I am using the phone). However if I use wi-fi or usb tethering I can use the net for anywhere between 5 minutes and 8-9 hours.
I also have the problem of freezing just after boot, but apart from that my phone has never frozen unless I enable internet usage. Furthermore, this issue only became frequent after changing radios. (for the life of me I can't remember what the previous radio was). When I have more stable internet access I'll try flashing a few different radio's...
But right now funnily enough.. I'm jumping between my phone internet and someones open network in my apartment block... both of which are very sporadic...
Hope this helps somewhat (or will at least..)
There are many threads regarding this issue. If you still have the problem after trying different radios and roms, then it is probably the mainboard.
Mine was also overheating and after I tried all possible fixes, I sent it for repair. They changed the mainboard and everything is OK now. No overheating at all.
I have a G3 and a mate has given me his G2 to sort out. The basic problem is it runs extremely slowly, eg you can only type 1 character every 2 seconds. He doesn't want to root it so options are a bit limited. I reset it and it was still slow, I have now flashed the latest version of lollipop (cse flash) and its still so slooooow, anyone got any ideas...? Many Thanks

When you "reset it" what do you mean.. you turned the phone on and off, or did you reflash the KK firmware with the LG Flash Tool? Enable Developer Options and go to "Geeky stats about processes" or something like that.. anything hogging resources? Also if you're wanting to optimize the phone.. I wouldn't go putting early stage Lollipop onto it. Maybe when 5.1 comes out sure but right now.. still a lot of problems. And one last question.. I assume your friend has kept this phone completely stock from day 1?

Hi, thanks for coming back, my mate performed a hard reset of the phone (effectively a fresh install) before giving it to me. I then flashed Lollipop using the
LG Flash Tool. It's still exactly the same, scrolling lags 1/2 second behind your finger its so slow. I tried Lollipop as I thought it would be a real fresh start. The phone is
and always been completely stock (un-rooted).
Geeky stats shows normal memory usage, system load is typically 9-11 over the last 1,5, 15 minutes....
I'm stumped, if I could root it, I could use system panel or perfmon to see exactly what was going on...
This is so weird, its like its running on 1 cpu core at 300Mhz - the effects are the same.
