froyo updated. voodoo lag fix HELP - Galaxy S I9000 General

Guys,
Im not an IT person and dont understand much of what is said here. However, i did follow steps and manage to upgrade to froyo which appears to be successful.
however it is very slow and voodoo has been suggested. my problem is that i have no idea how to do and and cant find a thread explaining the steps in "simple terms"
I did have OCLF which i removed beofre installuing froyo through kies.
what do you mean by "flashing it on"??
if anyone can point me in the right steps for a beginners guide its aprpeciated.

read this: http://project-voodoo.org/installation

Hey guys im kinda having some issues with Voodoo as well.
Updating to Froyo was a piece of cake.. As was installing z4root and getting it to run. But now that ive come to the actual Voodoo lagfix install, i reboot & get it to the Recovery screen, but when i click on the "apply update.zip" option it seems to start then stop with this error msg:
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I have not as yet installed ClockworkMod.. Do i need it for the installation to work? I was hoping z4root would suffice. Any help would be much appreciated thanks!
**Update***
Just found my answer on another page; apparently you cannot get Voodoo to load with the 3e version using the boot-up method. Only the Odin method will work. For all future users wondering im glad i only wasted a couple hours finding this info!

voodoo 5.1 does not work With U.S. Phones it reverses the sound outout and srews up the accelerometer

I think its time for you guys to move on to 2.2.1 there's an excellent thread by paul forde for it. search for it in general.

Can somebody point me on kernel for JVQ supporting Voodoo Color? Thanks.

Need Clarification

Hi everyone. I have the SGS I9000M and just needed a little bit of clarification on whether I am following the correct tutorials listed in this forum. Since there are many tutorials out there for various things, it does get a little confusing so I thought I'd ask first before doing anything.
Just a little note, I don't plan on flashing ROMs of any sort. I just want to get rid of the lag on my 2.1 using OCLF.
My phone has 2.1-update1 (UGJH2) and is rooted using the Z4Root program. This was done a few months ago and because I was busy, I did not do anything else. Should I unroot and reroot since there are newer updates to Z4root? Afterwards, I should check if my 3-button combo (recovery) sould work? I just did (by turning off my phone and pressing power+home+up volume together and releasing power when screen turns on) and I got into recovery.
Once I've done that, I should install OCLF (made specifically for i9000) from market and use it to unlag my phone? I've also read some posts saying that some people have had their Internal SD unmount permanently because of OCLF; just need confirmation for this. Also, I looked in OCLF and I was not allowed to do the lag fix.
Are there any steps missing from this? Thanks and I apologize in advanced if I missed some other posts similar to mine. I am just being cautious so that I don't brick my phone so please bare with me.
I am still trying to figure this out, thanks!
I OCLF install EXT2 tools first then lagfix .

Rooting Rogers Captivate Froyo 2.2 - SGH-i896

I had a lot of problems trying to root my phone after I upgraded my firmware to 2.2 using the SuperOneClick application however, I did manage to come up with a fix that worked for me.
(Please note: that I can not be held responsible for any damage this may cause to your phone)
When I first tried using the SuperOneClick I notice that the applicaiton would hang "waiting for device". I received the following advice but it didn't work:
When the application gets to the "Waiting for device" prompt complete the following.
-Unplug usb from phone
-Uncheck usb debugging
-Replug usb cable
-Unplug usb cable
-Recheck usb debugging
-Replug usb cable.
Rince and repeat until successful rooting.
If you have tried this and it didn't work then try the following:
Google JuneFabrics PdaNet Andriod and download / install the PdaNet for Android.
During the installation you will be prompted to install new USB drivers so that your phone can connect to your PC. However, if you have ever connected your phone to Kies or for file transfer then say no to the install.
Once you have the program installed go back to SuperOneClick and run as administrator.
Happy Rooting...
It worked for me on my second try without having to download PdaNet, but I know it can be a pain in the a$$
SuperOneClick worked for me on first try on Captivate 2.2!
Also worked first try on my friend's Bell Galaxy S.

Haven't read any posting of it working.
I couldn't get z4root to work
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I896 using Tapatalk
No z4root is not working. The exploit it use only works on 2.1 not 2.2. The app will FC / freeze or just close.
Also just a note on the SOC. Please don't start thread saying the usb unplug/replug method worked or didn't for you. This IS the way it works. If it worked on your first try, well good for you go buy a lottery ticket cause it's your lucky day.
The success rate is 100% but the number of tries is random. Could work on your 5th attemp like it can on your 1st or 2th.
Sorry guys for my silly question
but what is super one click and where can i get it ?
Thanks

Normal 3e clockwork recovery has signature verification which prevents a lot of the files here from being flashed on your phone (because they are not officially verified/signed). There's a modified 3e clockwork file that you can put on your phone. When I first installed it for my own rooted phone, I used untermensch's 3e_recovery_installer.zip which was easy and didn't require any terminal stuff.
hook up your phone to a computer with the galaxy s drivers (using PDAnet works great). then run the script. the script is kinda wonky so it took a few tries to work.
let us know how that goes

I found that to actually flash this ROM, you need to do the steps I mentioned, above.
with 2.2 jp3 or jp2 , u don't need do root it so far . use Odin3 downgrade it to 2.1 and use oneclickroot .......... ( use adb to enter download mode with some model can't use 3 button . "fastboot reboot download"
this superoneclick does not work
I have tried this method multiple times, all seems to go right, i get superuser showing up in my app drawer, yet when i use clockworks recovery to flash a new recovery I get the "failed to verify whole-file signature" followed by the next line "signature verification failed Installation aborted"...
I have the rogers captivate, it has been updated to android 2.2, Android system recovery <3e>.
I have also tried the adb version of rooting with the same result. Not sure if anyone has actually gotten theirs to work on rogers, they really should make a video or a more detailed list. Im not new to rooting or anything, but the instructions versus the results are not adding up. Hope there are others with success stories that they would like to share.
WOW you know you have 3e recovery. Search info on it.
you will find that 3e has signature verification... thats why your zips fail!!!
you will also find the 3e recovery FIX..
IT WAS FULLY EXPLAINED 2 POSTS ABOVE YOURS this friggin page!!! up 10 inches!!!

I have tried the untermensch's 3e_recovery_installer.zip method, but ended up bricking my phone. Thankfully rogers sent me a new one when i complained that it was the devices fault. Has this worked on anyones captivate.
yeah the version you flashed was for a vibrant not a captivate...
use the instructions Posted above and in my sig "3e fix"
why is this the most difficult thing this month when its an old problem?

EB01 - very easy

Thanks to all for the education through the posts. I read as much as I could of the different ways to upgrade from DI01 to EB01.
I tried the process in [ODIN] EB01 .tar file w/ root and CWM! thread in Development. Seriously, it could not have been any easier. Took 3:15 minutes to Odin the whole package and be up and running on a deodexed\debloated Froyo, another 10 to Titanium BU restore and tweak some settings.
For noobs, try this, but to continue to read the background info on what it all means.
I have only a small problem with enterprise security not locking the phone, but will ask for help in another thread. Everything else works great.
I'm glad you searched instead of just posting a "noob help me get eb01" brand new thread...
I like to learn and ask minimal questions. Its all here, just need to learn the language. You guys are awesome in knowledge and helping out.
XDA posts have helped me root and upgrade the Fascinate, a Captivate and a DInc. I think Nook Color is next.

I did the same! It was simple and painless. +1 for that method! WoOt!
Do you guys have 3G outage / flakiness after wake up?
Seriously, Odin was probably the snappiest and easiest way to get to EB01. The other methods with CWM and Rom Manager were horrific for me. Hit at least one problem at each step even when I was sure I was following them correctly. Flashed to adrenalyne's 2.2 with an Odin package, and have been using CWM since to flash updates and themes without a hitch!
No problems or flakiness with 3G. The few problems I do have are:
1. Have to hit the power button twice to wake up, not just once
2. coprorate security not locking phone; resorted to an app lock until someone can help me figure it out
3. Battery life decreased from 21 hours to 16 hours (after battery stats wipe)
The Odin was so easy, I tried a few SuperClean roms while I was at it. Really simplfies things.

Samsung Recovery Mode is useless! Grr

hiya, well i am new to the forums been learning a lot and found out a lot of weird things about this phone.
Yesterday downgraded wifes HTC Wildfire HBOOTs, Firmware, Rooted it, and Installed ClockWorkMod and cygenMod7
so i am fairly confident when it comes to using recovery mod so decided to try and see what i can do on my galaxy 3
--
i have my stock ROM (rooted) and just how i like it, the only thing i want to be-able to do now is just put ClockWorkMod
on my phone, so if anything goes wrong i can just restore via the bootloader.
Read a lot today and decided the best way to go is to just flash the kernel that includes CWM
and the install method for this i read was to boot into recovery and install the kernel from the SD card.
On booting into the recovery (power home volume up/down together) there is an option that says
"Apply SDcard update.zip"
do i rename the kernel to update.zip? or will it see the kernel file?.
i did try clicking this update.zip just to see what it would say but it give me this message.
---
Finding Update Package
E: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 (or null)
(no such file or directory)
E: Can't mount SDCARD:Update.zip installation Aborted
----
Now is there something i am missing? does this mean i cannot flash the kernel to another one
Grrr all i want is to just get clockworkmod recovery on this phone nothing else and its just seeming impossible
does this now mean i have to use ODIN the magical Mystical Tool that everyone knows about but doesn't have a clue where it come from?
or is there some other way to get this kernel onto this phone
i don't want to try the other options wipe data factory reset to see if the options are in there?
Sorry if this sounds dumb just i have no clue what this Apply sdcard:update.zip is or meant to be for
and if thats not how to update the kernel i don't see any other options to install a file from the SD card!
it's frustating now any help advice would be great even if someone could explain more about what this option does?

You have to use odin
Download the G3MOD kernel and flash it via Odin. Search on this forum and you'll find Odin as well as the ops file for our phone and a guide on how to use odin.
Click thanks if I helped.

saying oh you'll have to use odin isn't really helpful
something like explaining any fatal flaws when using odin that you might know about would be helpful.
example do i tick protect ops? when flashing the kernel? or is that just for ROMS
some really in depth information would be really helpful and grateful not only to me but anyone else who's looking to do this.
You're over complicating it. There is a guide on how to use Odin on our forum so read that. You flash a kernel the same way you flash a ROM and there's not much risk. Yes you do protect ops. The process of flashing takes approximately 5-10 seconds for a kernel then your phone reboots. Just relax and do it. After you've done it once you'll be able to do it a million times.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372414 << here is the tutorial.
Click thanks if I helped.

"You have to use odin" pretty much answered all of your questions since it did answer one and made all the rest irrelevant. You wrote all that text and all those questions yet you couldn't have written three little words ("If so, how?") after asking if you needed to use odin? You never made it seem as though you would need help if the answer was that you had to use odin, so dont shame me if I chose not to waste words when answering your post, which I did do. If I wasn't helpful the reason isn't because I was cheap on words, its because your post didn't require anything more than what I wrote (even if you did).
no worries thanks anyway 12 hours it was driving me nuts trying to just simply get clockworkmod on this phone.
in the end i decided to opt for a popular rom here (which will be donating after this post) the guys rom does everything i needed.
i made a post about odin 117 views but not a reply.. since this thread seems to be a little active
in simplyfied terms where on earth does this odin come from? everyone knows about it uses it but who makes it?
is there an official downloads page, their must be something otherwise how would people know when newer versions come out?
again donkey sorry i snarked, yes i looked into the guide it was great! followed everything and i now have a lovely G3Mod rom installed.

Samsung made it, however there is no official download page since it is leaked software. It probably not intended for the general public, but I dont think Samsung minds that it gets out. AFAIK samsung uses it/used it internally.
No problem about the snarking, I understand what its like to be a noob, every has been a noob, but I do know what its like to be a person who tries to help noobs.

[SOLVED] Vibrant Root Concerns

Hey there. I rooted my Vibrant successfully, but realized I left some important things out. I used this guide to root my Vibrant: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723479
The problems:
1) I can't nandroid (not that I need to, I only have 4 apps)
2) I would like to install either Miui v4 or CyanogenMod 9 but cannot as my recovery screen does not show me the options to do so (I only get the 4 options you normally would get unrooted, such as "Reinstall Packages"), so I'm stuck with the lame default homescreen.
3) I'm currently on 2.1-update1; should I upgrade to 2.2? If so, must I unroot to upgrade, and then reroot? And if this were the case, how do you unroot, and can I reroot using the same method in the link above?
Also, I was looking at this guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Sa...te_Guide#Installing_the_ClockworkMod_Recovery
and noticed the line "This guide assumes the Samsung Vibrant already has Android 2.2 build UVKB5 already installed on it."
Does this mean 2.2 is required to install the CWM Recovery?
Thank you.
I'm not sure how you don't have CWM recovery if you followed the guide as it is written. Maybe its because the 2.1 is updated? I would do the following and see if that's all it takes. You definitely don't want to update to stock 2.2 via Kies or anything of that nature.
Worst case scenario, we can have you Odin back to stock JFD. You'll be smooth sailing from there.
Search the forums and find the update.zip for CWM for our Vibrant.
Put that on the lowest level of your INTERNAL storage. Not your microsd card. For example f:\update.zip
Now go to your boring 4 option stock recovery and select reinstall packages. It will reboot to the same boring screen. Select reinstall packages again, and it will reboot into Clockwork Mod Recovery.
Let me know if that does anything for you. Also what version of stock recovery do you have?

Can pull that directly from my signature, if OP wants. (Only works on Eclair [JFD] build btw)
Also OP, You will have to have a ROM that you are going to want to flash saved on your Internal SD card. Jsut download it, put in a folder and follow the ROM OP's instructions. Since you are fresh and new, I would NOT suggest flashing anything of ICS or JB until you get the hang of things first.
Read, read and then read somemore. When it comes time to flash ICS or beyond, there is a guide in my signature. Good luck and make sure to hit Toast's "Thanks" button. He is a good asset to have around here.
Wow! I was hesitant to even check today, let it alone this early! Did not think that I would have two very useful replies waiting for me. Thanks guys, much appreciated!
I'll try the Odin thing out first before I even try to flash (you need root first before flashing, I'm assuming). Just out of curiosity, what is JFD and Odin? I'm still gonna try it out using the guides found here, but just curious.
EDIT: Damn, it worked like a charm! Now I have CWM. The mistake I made was that I only installed the Superuser/ROOT and not both. Gonna play with it for a bit now
