I've been having so many issues with the bluetooth disconnect and connect issues and I have the hardware version 002 launch evo. That finally tech support has decided to replace my phone with a hardware version 004 should I have any problems with it as far as rooting the phone. I've seen some comments about people not being able to acquire full nand unlock is that true. I love my wifi teether and can't go with out. If there are any problems with rooting let me know thank you
yes

I believe your Hboot version is more critical than your hardware version. I just got a new Evo yesterday. It was version 004, but my Hboot was only 0.97. Unrevoked and 10 min was all it took to root my device.
Mines is rooted and working perfect

My wife came home with a new Evo last night, it's a revision 003, Hboot 0.97 and software 3.29. I think I'm gonna root it when she goes to bed tonight.
I got a version 4 on 11/1, but software build was .29, (and I'm assuming hboot was .97 as rooting was simple) so it depends on hboot and I believe software build, not on hardware version.
HBOOT 0.97 and HW 004 over here, rooted and vibin' on Fresh 3.4.0.1!
Rooted my 004 and downgraded to the eng hboot. No issues.

All,
We have noticed an alarming number of people coming to the IRC channel with "new" phones from Asurion (the insurance company) that have 2.1 OTA and a 1.49 bootloader.
We need to know if new phones from a Verizon store that comes with 2.1 have a 1.49 bootloader or not.
So, if you have a new phone, before rooting please do the following and report your findings:
Reboot your phone and hold down power + volume down. When you are presented with the HBOOT menu, tell me what the version number is at the top (should be 1.47.00 or 1.49.00 or similar).
i just got a new eris from the verizon store monday with 1.5
bootloader 1.47.00

I got my eris from the verizon store. It was a replacement phone and it had the 1.47 boot loader on it, this as a week ago. Ya it was only in its virgin 1.5 state for as long as it took to drive the phone to my house.
my sister has a new one coming tomorrow morning... will post results.

Also, my Eris says its 1.49 but its rooted. It came to me with 1.5, not sure if its been 1.49 the whole time but it is now and I've never done leaks or ota.

I just received a Verizon Eris:
This phone shipped with HBOOT 1.49
Baseband 2.42.00.04.12
Build 2.36.605.1CL165907 release-keys
It is a new phone, ordered through our business sales rep.
I am new to this phone (Coming from WimMo land). My guess is that I cannot root the phone. What is likely to happen if i try?
you can root.
Got my refurb last week, now rooted.
HBOOT 1.49.2000
I have been rooted since we found root. I leaked on my original phone but Verizon sent me a new phone in the mail because they didnt have any in stock.
HBOOT-1.49.2000 S-OFF
Jan 24 2010
I have never updated the bootloader... unless the root rom updated it..

the leaked root rom updates the boot loader to HBOOT-1.49.2000 S-OFF, I think, I may be wrong. this is also what I have on my phone
Interesting, my leakv3 eris has HBOOT v1.49.0000
So what exactly does that version check fail on ?

FALSE.
Sorry , goedls, you can't root.
Here's the go down.
Users who ran 1.5 and got the 2.1 OTA DID NOT get a bootloader update, so using the old bootloader, you can go to the root rom which runs .49 S-OFF (Engineering SPL)
Both the leaks and root roms have .49 BUT the root rom has older system information, so installing it from a leak rom which has newer system information, you will not be able to use it to root.
If your phone comes with a new bootloader, chances are, you cannot root.
There is a difference between the bootloaders:
2.1 Root ROM-> .49 S-OFF
2.1 Leaked Roms-> .49
Strongly suggests that VZW is flashing the so-called "leak" v3 onto phones, doesn't it ?

Not necessarily but I see what you're saying.
Supposedly, the RUU coming out for this update flashes this new bootloader.
delete....
To be honest, I can't believe for a second that VZW is going to unbox all the phones they have in stock to update the software. Of course, if the phone is still on 1.5, it doesn't match what I presume VZW is advertising as features of the Eris (presuming they talk about 2.1 features).
I should be receiving a replacement later today, I'll check back in.

Thanks for clearing that up, Framework. My (second/last) Eris has .49 but it's 1.49.2000 (PB00100 XC ENG S-OFF).
My replacement Eris arrived today, Ceritifed Like-New, and is 1.5 w/ HBOOT 1.47.

My Verizon refurb replacement came with 1.5 and hboot 1.47. I just rooted successfully.
Apparently Sprint is pushing out a new update for all HTC EVO users.
3.30.651.3 FOTA update.
So check if you guys have it and see if anything changes.
Good luck
Waiting for someone else to be the guinea pig and see if unrEVOked works after installation.

No, it appears that this is only available for users who have software version of 3.30.651.2
"Note: This update is only for newer devices with initial software version of 3.30.651.2. If you are running a different version than this, you will not receive this update and do not need it.
This update fixes power cycling issue when accessing the camera through some applications, like Qik, on devices running version 3.30.651.2 only."

I downloaded it a while ago. It's 6MB and when I installed it, I got the ! With the triangle. So I reported and never updated it. I'm using Unrevoked with Azrael 2.3 ROM.
So no update for me. Even though it still asks me to install it, I won't.

When the last OTA update hit I was unable to install over the air it until I replaced clockworkmod with the stock recovery. Maybe the same thing is occurring here?
it is just a patch 6.4Mb and the download link can be found in a logcat

Does it still have HBOOT 2.02?
I'll root it and post it when I get home from work in 4 hours.
if you're getting this update it sounds like you already have a newer evo that is a bit more difficult to root anyhow. unrevoked doesn't work on the phones that seem to be getting this update to begin with, i doubt it will break root any harder honestly.
i'm installing it, my phone reboots when running qik and i can't get root from unrevoked as it is.
i got notified by my evo today about the update, i chose against installing it too.
i installed 3.29 ota, rooted via unrevoked then used the update zip to get to 3.30 even though apparently we should not have been doing so.
update works great, qik now works, and the flashlight toggle on my toggles widget no longer reboots the phone either.
Same here tried update , Running clockwork and I have Azreal 2.41 running. After reboot Triangle.
Cold boot back and update failed.
Maybe someone would be so kind as to post this in a ZIP.
Thanks
Gin.
What time you get home from work? Cuz ill be waiting for that root..... lol

Nope. I manually pushed the files. Everything I used (and the rough instructions) are at http://goo-inside.me/evo/hboot_2.02_root/
Hi,
I have successfully rooted mine and one other Evo with the November firmware update and hboot 2.02. I just rooted my brother's who had the August firmware update and hboot 0.97 using this method. After doing the last method, it flashed the hboot to 0.71 - I just left it at that and loaded the ROM and all is ok.
So, my question is: Do I really need to update hboot or the radios? Am I gaining that much more by updating than than risking bricking my phone?
Thanks, and thanks to so many people here - I proudly support the apps and ROMs I use.
No. You don't need to worry about it. Your hboot is fine, especially considering Cyanogenmod no longer requires the Eng hboot. I've never risked it with radios and haven't encountered a problem.

Hey guys,
I'm sort of a newb with these phones but I am starting to learn. Last night I updated my stock phone on 2.1 to the stock Froyo 2.2. I then read about the FR008 and how much better it was, and I want to be able to update to this version instead of the 2.2 Froyo.
Is it possible to do this? I really don't want to brick my phone so any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. I have been looking through the Liberated Aria 2.2.2 thread along with this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819715
I downloaded the second one (liberated aria FR008) but haven't done anything yet.
Thanks!
You can't root because you updated to stock 2.2 which contains an unrootable hboot as of this time.
Signatures are fancy.

I thought you could root with unrevoked 3.32? didn't they add support in 3.2?
v3.2:
Added support for Froyo builds on all supported devices (thanks to Sebastian Krahmer)
Added support for the CDMA Desire
Optionally disables security on supported CDMA devices

Support for Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) is different than having support for the underlying HBOOT version which needs a loophole to remain rooted. Along with the factory update of the OS, an HBOOT update was also tacked on closing the loophole and thus diminishing the ability to root.

So I'm guessing there's no possible way to redo the hboot sector? I shouldn't have done that update then. Oh well someone will figure out the root soon enough I hope
This is my phone's versions:
Android: 2.2.2
Baseband: 47.63.35.21.....
Kernel: 2.6.32.21
Build: 2.20.502
Software: 2.20.502.1
Is there any way I can go to a liberated froyo from where I am at?

To make it a bit more clear, when you updated to 2.2, the update replaced the version of HBoot originally on the phone and root capable with an updated version that at this time cannot be rooted. Until an exploit is discovered, you're screwed.

Ahh FML. Figures that I updated it a few hours before I discovered this stuff.
Damn, same here. I'm sure it will be figured out soon enough but I really miss my rooted aria.
I do feel your pain. I was worried that the Aria I was getting from AT&T for a penny was going to have 2.2 on it out of the box. If I didn't also have an unlocked Dell Streak coming in with 2.2 already installed on it, I'd say it was an unfounded fear. The Dell Streak started with 1.6.
I really should have known...
Some how I didn't even think about checking for the option to "go back" to my rooted phone. I feel like an idiot. This is sometimes the best way to learn. I await an update from those with the power
::sigh::
