[Q] New to the phone - Wildfire General

Hi, i've just been offere a wildfire in replacement for a se x10i which is my 4th from my carrier. Apart from the processor being quicker, the one i've tried seems pretty ok with more features etc...
How do you guys get on with yours with bluetooth car kits, battery life etc.... heard angry birds doesnt play, thats the negative....
input be great, thanks, john

Hi,
On a custom rom, angry birds and the whole system is quite fast.
The bluetooth connectivity to my nokia carkit is great, all of its features work and it acts like its a nokia. It displays the caller, the one you call, the call register, it allows you to dial or call from the call register without touching the phone at all.
The battery is somewhere in the line of 2-3 days, depending on how much you play, talk or use the wifi on it.
The market is quite castrated, alot of the apps that the market doesn't display, work flawlessly on the device and you will have to search google for those free apps and just put and install them from the sdcard.
You will not be let down on this phone. It is my second but not my last HTC, that's for sure.
What I advise you to do on the phone:
- stay on the stock rom for now, the roms are quite buggy and lack even a decent camera app. It isn't worth it to install them yet. Keep your eyes peeled for the official froyo which hopefully will come this year.
- root it
- install setcpu and setup a profile to downclock the phone while the screen is off. Great battery saver
- activate automatic brightness. The phone has a light sensor that it's shame not to get used
- get a silicon case
- get a screen and camera lens protection film
- if you have the stock rom, you won't need (cuz you already have them or features similar): flashlight, ringdroid, voice recorder app, facebook and twitter apps, youtube, gmail app
- get airplane scheduler to further save battery
- get a battery notification program to display the percentage of battery ( the icon isn't very descriptive )
- go ahead and have fun.

That sounds brilliant, thankyou. Just need to remove vodafones bloat ware when it comes!
John

Angry worked on my wildfire.. just install it & lock the screen,it should work.

Super post my friend! Great job! thanks for the info!
the 2 to 3 days battery life is with or without those settings?
If not, what's the stock battery life and how many hours can you add with these settings?

Believe or not, it came without vodafone bloatware, ie music and 360, but did have the vodafone logo at start up.
I have installed majority of things, battery is the main issue, but so was the xperia's.... For the money, you cannot go wrong with this phone at all.

Battery improvment time on HTC HD2

People with the Htc Hd2 have probably noticed that the battery life is horrific.
As i only really need one day or use out of the phone i found a way that gave me close to 50 hourse with normal usage wich i think is very impressive for a 4,3" screen and a 1gzh Qual snapD proscessor.
what to do:
- Go to settings and home and deactivate HTC sense and ativate Windows Standars.
- Also turn the background lighting to constanly 30% and not on auto (you can go as low as you find appealing, but 30% was perfect for me)
this does mean you have to give up the Htc sense which might not be appealing for some people, but for me it was just fine.
(PS) i had the well known SMS problems aswell, but since i deactivated the HTC sense all my messages have been sendt on time and i have recived all my phone calls, i have tested this for a week now so its all confirmed!
you could get more then 50 hours because my "normal use" contains a lot of phone calling wich drains a lot of battery and even after 50 hours i still had 30% left on the battery. each time!

but I think the HTC sense is very important, it's a main fuction of HD2, I like it.
I wish the factories can develop a more capacity battery
Yes disable Sense and install SBP mobile shell. Faster and lower ram usage =)

HTC Sense checks for location, shows weather animations, clock animations. That all uses battery.
SPB is more efficient and yet more customizable.

The settings shortcut will not work in the start menu when Mobileshell is installed, just go through mobileshell's menus to get to the settings. Have you installed the disable HTC messaging cab for when you have sense disabled? This will allow you to use/go to messaging (if you disable HTC messaging you will have to install the Arcsoft MMS client in order to send/receive MMS)
I also disabled senses, because my SMS messages were not arriving?! Very strange..
But with senses off everything goes well.. I hope there will be a fix for sense soon, because it truly is a great piece of software!
(i miss the MP3 player, photo slider, facebook updates on my contact and the direct link to opera )
Disabling sense?
What are the exact steps to disable HTC sense? I goto the today settings but I cannot see any option to disable sense, all I see is two tabs one for changing the background when the device is locked and the other for adding/removing tabs! Please help!!!
Btw if I install SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 then is Sense automatically disabled? I suppose it will be since SPB replaces it but with Windows one can never be sure!

I haven't done it but I can see how it could be done.
When you get to the Today screen you mentioned, there are two tabs at the bottom left. The first says Appearance and the second says Items. Go to Items which is where you'll see all the today settings listed. It also says that checked items appear on the Today screen. The only one checked in that list is HTC Sense. Presumably, that's where you untick it.
*If anyone knows this to be wrong, please correct me. I wouldn't want to be giving out incorrect information.*
Quick one to all who have disabled sense - is HTC Keyboard still working after?
I am also considering turning of sense.
What should I setup to have windows phone 6.5 home screen? (Zune like)
Thx
Just as a matter of interest, why don't you all just try it and see if this works or that works?
If it's not to your liking then re enable sense!
I am dissatisfied with the hd2 battery, don't know what to do, mine only lasts for 1.5 day for normal usage. I think htc should work more on developing the battery technology, something like SAMSUNG phones.
About the tips and ways to have more battery life, I don't know what is the point here:you deactivate all features you have in a bloody expensive phone, and make it like a Nokia 1100 to have more battery? u can simply buy a Nokia 1100 and save ur money while you enjoy 4-5 days battery life!
What I am saying is that if we have to deactivate htc sense, weather animation, location services and make the screen less bright to use the phone for 3 days, then why should I buy a phone which has these capabilities?!
I want a long time battery, while I wanna enjoy my device. I am waiting for a better battery to be offered from htc, something like 9-cell battery for laptops.
1.5 days is fantastic for a smartphone which provides the functionalities of a laptop
id be happy if mine would last the day instead of charging it when i get home at 5pm

Very nicely said with Nokia 1100 example... nothing to add here buddy!!!
I disabled data connection overnight (BsB Tweaks, then shut off data connection) and I only lost 5% battery for 6-7 hours. Turned it on in the morning and barely used the phone and I've lost over 50% in about 11 hours. Only used about 10 minutes of talk time, no web checking. I have outlook and hotmail configured. MS Push was disabled. I have the Docs Indexer disabled installed.
To my sudo-quick-test it seems 3g is killing the phone.
to save battery life i off all the auto updates. i update 'em manually, with this and my ROM/Radio i can last 2 days average and 3 days max
I also thought battery life was a disaster then read in some post that bluetooth was draining batt, tried to turn it of and voila. before it was beetween 0-10% when i was home by 5 and now it is 35-50%.
I don´t like that i "can´t" use the things that is availabale on phone because that´s why i bought it. I had it for about four months now and it feels like nothings ever gonna happen that´s solves the problems, this, the sms prob and that it freezes is my things that can driving me insain, but somehow i just love it anyway
i thing people have to understand that battery technology has not really been developed or improved recently.. so you're using a high tech device with a old/low tech battery, so unless they make the battery big/fat, ur probably only gonna get a day or so of battery life. good example is hd2's standard n extended battery. the extended battery is somethin like 2000+ mAh, but its fat. spoiling the sleek look of the hd2. and bout samsung, its probably cause their screens are bit smaller n the batteries are around 1500mAh compared to hd2's 1230mAh? One thing i dont understand though is why the hd2's standard battery couldnt be buffed up just a tiny bit to at least 1500mAh..
When I flashed CleanEx it improved my battery time. Touch X-Treme did the same thing. Also you should deactivate all auto-update stuff.
Then it could be that your HTC HD2 lasts a day

HD2 Android power saving APPS, worked for me

Ive been using juice plotter to check on my huge batter drain over the last few days since installing darkstone froyo v2, ive been slowly adding different apps to control the power consumption. I understand all rooted android roms have similar issues, hopefully a combination of these apps will help.
from stock darkstone froyo (ie no power control apps) i was losing 90% of battery in 7 hours. This was with wifi/gps/bluetooth off and not much usage. I also found the phone Stopping at 93% charge when plugged in. To fix this leave it plugged in and turn the phone off for 15 mins. Reboot android and It will have reached the full 100%. I think the android rom I have has issues charging on USB so I disabled the charge on USB in the settings.
Ok here are my personal findings I have on various power saving apps.
APP: JUICE PLOTTER
RATING: 4/5
BATTERY SAVED: N/A
PRICE: FREE from app store
shows a graphical chart of power consumption vs time , good for diagnosing how much extra power draw your activated features have (ie wifi, bluetooth) shows the time these features start and end at also, be it manually started or automatically.
APP: APP KILLER
RATING: 4/5
BATTERY SAVED: 30 - 60 mins on a full battery
PRICE: FREE, Pro upgrade is minimal cost from app store (gives extra features)
I set mine to aggressive killing. this improved my battery slightly, probably increased battery by about 30mins to 1 hr on a full charge. The main thing I like with this app is the automatic, set time, multiple killing of other apps. Unfortunaly i found the app killing not to permenant as some restart again a little while after. This has minimal battery save for my programs but depending what your apps/services are consuming on terms of resources, it can save much more. The auto kill stops the phone from been bogged down, it is much quicker to respond once its stopped other apps and wakes from sleep quicker. This app also shows you a list of all current running apps and services that you can quit, switch to etc. I found stock android to have this sort of task manager feature missing.
APP: SETCPU
RATING: 3.5/5
PRICE: free on XDA (donation recommended ) small price from app store.
BATTERY SAVE: about 1 hr - much Cooler running phone temp.
This app is very good as it can set you CPU speed to save battery. Mine is set to 833mhz when used, 255mhz in idle. 432mhz when the screen is off. This Saves small amounts of battery but still has a decent response and speed, also improvements on wake up from sleep. You can save more power with more conservative speeds, although your phone may be less responsive. On the flip side push up the MHz to increase speed and responsiveness of your hd2 for increased battery usage.
Upon heavy use of my phone with a high CPU speed I saw a slight battery drop with SETCPU, probably due to my CPU speed being at 1033mhz at the time.
CLEANED MY EMAIL INBOX
BATTERY SAVING: 7 hrs
I found that mobile web was constantly running on android. as I hadn't cleaned my email inbox fully a few emails from a month or so ago kept been synced to my phone to notify me. Once I deleted these My battery saved near to 7 hrs per full battery. I assume it was constantly downloading the old emails. So make sure you email account is maintained.
APP: TASKER
PRICE: just under £4. Cheaper from developers site
RATING: 4.5/5
BATTERY SAVE: 15 HRS
This is the greatest power saving app I've used.
I've set my mobile data to automatically be off. Every half hour it will turn on for 5 mins to update emails, news, weather etc. It will also enable web when I unlock the Phone. Disable web once I've turned off the screen. It also stops syncing at night so it doesn't wake me with a notification sound. This saves me an extra 15 hrs on a full battery.
One thing I'm doing next is to stop certain apps from booting until I need them. sort of a scalpel approach as apposed to app killers kill em all method.
one issue i found is the learning curve to be quite high on tasker but it wll only take 20 mins to get the hang of how to do what i did above. Hopefully the deveoper will make an easier interface but its still very good. The power saving feature of tasker is only a small part of the tasks this phone can do. It can literally Automise most tasks for your android.
Wth all these apps my battery now lasts on average for 24hrs upon normal usage, 30hrs+ on light usage (better than my win mob) and around 18 hrs on heavy usage.
Hope this helps any one looking for a decent power app. feel free to add your experience with these and oter power saving methods for android HD2
interesting thx.. so tasker is just a automater it doesn't actually stop the apps from staying open in the background or can it? thats the thing annoying me i kill all apps then i go check and i see useless apps still running in the background and i don't want to have to uninstall the apps just to disable them from running in the background. btw did u try the text to speech on incoming calls? im thinking bout purchasing it.

yeah tasker can be made to stop indivdual programs from booting rather than app killers stop em all. tasker keeps em stopped until you want to run them of course. you have to select scripts to do this tought. The program is amazing, you can auto set your phone to go silent when you walk into work, cinema etc etc by using GPS. Auto connect to car bluetooth once you get in your car, connect it for calls then stop bluetooth once you get out. Have your phone read you your messages once you have navigator on in the car, so you dont need to touch it. send an automatic sms reply to certain people, ie work collegues if your in a meeting..... its a full automisation program, the options are endless if you know what scripts to select to get it working.
I sadly can only do basic ones but in willing to learn, there are a few tutorials online for certain tasks, im just hoping the developer will release updates to make it easier for the advanced tasks.
lol ive just read this back and BTW i dont represent the developer in anyway, i only bought the app 3 days ago. I did a bit of research on it as thought it was a bit expensive and im glad i did buy it, it depends what functionality you want with your phone i suppose. I bought it as it cures my power options and i can taunt my mates who have iphones (i received a lot of stick when it had winmob on as the main as it kept having issues and wasnt very fun for me to use).

Im not sure in all honestly, ive not really got around to looking into other tasks apart from battery power saving ones. ive read a few of the posts on the developers website forum and he seems very good and swift at answering questions on the apps features. He also has a suggestion page for users to add stuff. Its one of the reasons that swayed me into buying it as hes clearly spent a lot of time on the development of the app, is very active on his site and seems update the app with newer features. His site link is on marketplace with his app.
Update; I've just checked my battery as I left if off charge last night. It was 48% when I went to sleep its now 40%. This averages at 1% per hour!!! Battery usage has now increased that I'm using it.
How do you setup your tasker? I got it but have no idea how to use...

[HOW TO] Increase Battery life of HTC Hero (Official 2.1 Update, sense and rooted)

I found some simple steps do the trick in increasing battery life of my HTC Hero (with Official 2.1 Update, Sense and rooted). Would like to share the same with you all. Shared the same with some other Sense users and awaiting for their feedback).
1. Turn off always on mobile data
2. Turn off Auto-sync(Yes, I know what you are thinking right now. But, I open twitter, facebook whenever I need them. I Don't keep them open and syncing all the time and this is same for Gmail app too)
3. Remove any weather widget from home screens (or atleast reduce the frequency of update)
4. Install a software called Battery booster(free) n do the following (don't expect it do wonders, it just allows you to do couple of settings)
@ reduce display brightness to a satisfactory level (I have kept it to 9-10%, doesnt make any difference if you indoor, and Hero's display is pathetic in outdoors anyway)
@ reduce automatic lock time (This one is irritating, Should say !) (optional, helps when you have a habit of keeping the phone unlocked and not using it)
@ have its widget on the home screen (to do some quick settings)
5. Install start up manager from market n remove all user apps from start up, doing this will avoid them getting started automatically (Yes, I didnt require any of the apps to be loaded at the startup, in fact I have disabled couple of system and HTC prop apps or services)
6. Reboot the phone n witness the magic (I have got more than a days battery after 3 hrs of music, an hour of browsing, fb twitter etc..)
7. (UPDATE) Have task killer to close all running apps before you go to sleep !
I see nothing that can harm/brick yo phone, but I am not responsible If it does..! I am just trying to help you all.

Good guide though!
Also worth saying that 'Data on Demand' is a great app. turns off 3g/2g/h connection while the screen is off. and is a lot less cpu intensive than juice defender and the like.
Also GreenPower is the same but it also manages wifi.
Annnnddd its pointless turning the GPS off in the settings. when it is on it will only use power if an app asks for your location (and then you will see that the gps is activated in the notification bar).
You get the exact same battery life leaving the phones gps set on but never open a gps requiring app as if you leave gps off and never use a gps requiring app.
At least it has for me on every rom Ive tried, and on my brothers official 2.1 hero.

10 things that I hate about Gingerbread!

I really wonder why there is none of such thread here!
Gingerbread unfortunately brought only bad things to my Nexus. I already forgot why I was so crazy about installing it.
What feature did it introduce again?
Okay the response is much better and everything seems faster...but with lots of bugs?
That screen off animation? Seriously?
Things that I hate now:
- Battery Time: this is bad, can't even run half a day with lot of usage, b
efore I could listen to mp3's one day, ie. more than 4 hours without any problems...now
- Camera: either Cam or Video, the application crashes after I take a photo or video and then I can not connect to it anymore
- Gallery: often crashes, especially if you have an online photo account connected
- unlock screen: I use a pattern, often there is no overlay of what pattern I drag, still the screen can be unlocked
- Market: even if automatic updates activated, it only updates if you open the market and go to the "my apps" tab
- 3G and Wifi: if you are connected to wifi more than 15 minutes and then disconnect from it you do not get any 3G, you have to go to airplane mode and back, this bug appeared ages ago and was fixed, now back again...tells you a lot about their merging control, ie. sucks
- notification led: you know...
- apps: there are a lot of apps running even though I never used them since restart (see it in a task killer app)
- gps: on a random bases it tries to lock even though no app that uses gps is running
- phone reboot: it even rebooted without any notice two times since I installed it
(- Contacts: I still can't enter a simple thing like a birthday on an expensive phone like this)
MOD EDIT: Borderline trolling removed. If you switch OSes, that's your own choice. No one here is stopping you.
Got any troubles? Tell here.

4. Blank keyboard- fixed by switching to another keyboard and back again, or a reset
5. Blank Launcher- fixed with reset
6. In the stock SMS app a long press>delete conversation doesn't always delete the selected conversation; sometimes you have to do it twice.
As far as battery goes, my display is still the thing that takes up the most battery (which is normal) but I had been experiencing severe declines in battery life. Does the switch to 32-bit color require more processing power and therefore battery?
I *#*#4636#*#*>phone information and saw it was set to WCDMA preferred. I remember playing with the option when froyo came out but didn't remember what it was set to (Maybe Gingerbread reset the option...?). I changed it to GSM PRL (Auto), and have experienced increases in battery life, as my phone isn't hunting for 3G all the time- it uses a service provided list of tower locations.
The LED REALLY bugs me.
Hate about Gingerbread
No trackball wake
Juice Defender Doesn't work (but Green Power does - works well but with less flexibility than JD)
Short battery life
Useless keyboard selection gimmicks
- Market: even if automatic updates activated, it only updates if you open the market and go to the "my apps" tab

Well, glad to know mine isn't the only one that does this!!
On Froyo I would wake up in the morning to freshly updated apps that had updated automatically over night.
I have not had this happen a single time on Gingerbread, and nearly every time I go in to the market there are updates waiting.
What is the point of the automatic update feature when it doesn't work???

-More difficult to mod themes like statusbar (before we just had to change a png and now we have to edit a bunch of files)
So in summary GB roms are still not stable and complete, they have either TB wake missing or poor battery life too
My annoying issues?
- 2 second mic mute after I answer a call
- stock launcher choking after a while
Less annoying ones:
- Market does not automatically update apps
- gps activations without an apparent reason
My annoyances
In no particular order:
The cursor select triangle not lining up with the cursor
Launcher unresponsive/vanishing
Lockscreen pattern not showing (as in the OP)
Phone randomly stays awake at night
GPS turns itself off
Not able to view an apps wakelock any more
USB mount screen shows 'turn off' even when it isn't mounted (UK issue)
USB debugging icon doesn't appear, or doesn't turn off depending on how you enabled it
Exchange push is just crap now, I swear it's getting worse by the day

- phone reboot: it even rebooted without any notice two times since I installed it
(- Contacts: I still can't enter a simple thing like a birthday on an expensive phone like this)
I think there is more if I think about it.
Seriously thinking about switching back.

While I'm not a big Gingerbread lover at all, here are answers to some of the points:
Battery time is fine, at least in freshly installed ROMs it far exceeds what Froyo mastered.
Camera is your own problem - you didn't update radio, or your update went bad.
Gallery never crashed - again, your own problem (you get the feeling now, right?).
3G and WiFi - again, your own problem. No bug.
Apps - and why do you care? Isn't the "DO NOT USE TASK KILLER" thread clear enough? 150-200MB free RAM aren't self-explanatory?
Due to your comments, you might really consider switching to Apple. It would be beneficial both for you and for this forum.
Or you could back up user data, wipe, install new radio and bootloader, load fresh Gingerbread ROM (NOT CM7 or CM7-based), and have most of your points addressed.
Now, having said that, if you want a much better overall feel - install Froyo-based Desire port, or if you don't have any use for Hotspot - DesireHD port. I hate using barebone Android after some experience with it.
have you guys heard about Cyanogenmod ROM? I am using CM7 RC4 and I have no problems that anyone mentioned in this thread....
Maybe you haven't heard that your experience not necessarily represents anything.
For me (and another 2 guys that asked me to reinstall other ROM on their Nexus Ones), CM7 was a huge, awful pile of bugs. Starting with the ill-famous "wonk".
Plus, again, after having some SenseUI I don't really want to go back to plain Android, and wouldn't suggest it to anyone looking for a good overall experience.
I have an occasional problem with the application tray where it stutters, flashes and doesn't scroll properly. It seems to happen only after exiting certain apps, and needs the launcher to be force closed to fix.

Just lost all credibility in my book...
I would suggest the OP decides what features he/she wants in a ROM and then try a few different ones out. There are plenty to cater to all tastes and i'm sure they'll be able to find one that works well for them.
1. exchange sync stops syncing without any reason. can't start a manual sync. only reboot of the phone helps for a short period of time. needs a fix very urgently.
2. TINY TINY notification icons...the worst idea google had for the GB update. i cannot see the difference between the gmail and exchange mail icon on normal usage in example.
There are some more points which i also mentioned in my blog about gingerbread for nexus one:

Thread Cleaned
Let's play nicely in here and keep this on-topic. This is not the place to discuss other operating systems. This is about issues pertaining to the OTA Gingerbread updates.
Thanks,
Your loving moderator.
One bug and one annoying change:
- The instability of the launchers. I hope they address this.
- The inaccessible GPS toggle. Tasker can't access it and neither can the toggle widgets. Why did they change this?
my mms sometimes does not send if i configure 2 APNs (one for mobile data and one for mms), while i disable the one for mobile data...
it's working fine on Froyo and CM6 before

QFT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Auto brightness adjustment no longer fades, now it just jump straight to the target brightness which is quite abrupt visually.
And of course... trackball wake is gone.
I concur with these points:
- Battery Time: this is bad, can't even run half a day
- Gallery: often crashes, especially if you have an online photo account connected
- Market: even if automatic updates activated, it only updates if you open the market and go to the "my apps" tab
- GPS: on a random bases it tries to lock even though no app that uses gps is running
- Creating shortcuts on desktop: sometimes you can't drag/drop icons to the desktop or to a different spot on the desktop.
- The cursor select triangle not lining up with the cursor
- Auto brightness adjustment no longer fades, now it just jump straight to full bright or full dim.
As for the people suggesting we update the radio and try different roms, while that is primarily what this board is about, it doesn't "solve" anything. This is a stock Nexus One with official everything. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work.

List of problems after ics update. LETS SHARE

Well im having all the problems below :
1. Assistive light not working
2. Lagging in "click sound" when locking the
device.
3. Cant load sd card most of the time
My question is, wtf? And its annoying. Id rather go back to gingerbread anytime.

i cant seem to use my swiftkey tablet x now, which i was able to with GB.
Thanks!
Mine are not prbs but am yet to see most of the promised features to its full potential, Cant seem to find the new unlock screen features etc .. Just got my phone upgraded and exploring
SMS converting to MMS..
Does anybody know how to fix this issue?
ICS in Note
After upgrading to ICS via kies,
Battery seems to drain very fast.
Camera hangs up sometimes and other camera related apps like Instagram also but maybe the pic quality is little better.
It seems to crash when some other apps runs too.
Not sure if it was there before but I can pause music and video if I show my palm on the screen.
The screen rotates faster than in GB with a pause at the beginning though.
News fonts are good.
Window animations are good but still dont' know how to stop it since it might be draining battery fast.
Can use Chrome now and it's fast.
I cannot use Mass Storage Mode. I recieve a "Ui stopped to work" error.
I am facing,
1. High android OS usage. Sometime its higher than Brightness, and most of the time its highest usage of batt after brightness. (I read somewhere, it said its calculation errors, but I think its not, cause my battery no longer last that long.)
2. Camera will sometimes fail to operate. I really dunno what is wrong with that.
3. Phone just cant go into deep slp. Its being kept awake by some apps (Which I cant narrow it) Using BetterBatteryStats, I found out its I2_HSIC. (Whats this I2_HSIC ??)
I am using a 5400mAh mugen batt. previously on GB, my usage can last me 24hrs, now it can only last 16hrs or less. I installed lesser apps, and lesser widgets. Disable account sync and google backup. Settings more or less kept the same.
Overnight my batt can reduce by 21%, it never happened before. lol. ICS...
i say fck ics, lets go backto eclair

I have a bug I have not seen mentioned.
Occasionally, usually about 1 time per day, My phone display will start to flash, with random green and red colors. The screen I'm on, will flash those colors then star to shake and slide.
It looks like a television station not tuned quite right on an analog antenna (if anybody remembers that!)
I can't reproduce it regularly, but It think it has happened when going from an Application, back to the home screen using the home button.
I am on ICS, Taiwan, stock, not rooted.
Anybyody else seen this?
Indian ICS Stock Rom

I faced this issue with stock ICS (rooted) .
I opened the browser to html5test.com , and the screen filled up with lines (similar to a TV noise) . Turning off did not seem to work, so i did a battery pull.
Unable to reproduce the problem so far!

I can get the screen back by just waiting it out. Usually takes about 2 minutes. I sure do wish I knew what was happening, though, so I could confirm no damage was being done.

As far as #2 goes, go to your battery stats and see if "media" is listed. If so, force close it and try again. Seems to work for me. I'm not sure if it is just me or not because I have been playing with settings lately, but the media scanner tends to run wild it seems (also seems to lend to battery drain).
I am just disappointed that they left out some of the nice features of ics like the updated gallery and camera. Seems kind of lazy to me and no wonder things arent working well if they are mix and matching gingerbread and ics rather than going all in and starting development from there. I would definitely go back to using one of the non tw ics roms if it weren't for the sod issues I was having...

Indian stock Rom:
- Battery life seems to be strange as sometime drain is too high and sometime i feel it's better then it was on GB. yet to track the exact pattern but in either case no wireless, no gps, no Bluetooth and Brightness @ 10%.
- opening contacts taking few seconds but now search on exchange server is well integrated.
-i have enabled 'face unlock' and sometime it will not respond at all so keep doing lock/unlock till get restored.
.......and I am unable to find s-note application, i tried under system/app as well but as don't know apk name not sure. can someone help pls.
me too
I also got that green bands screen you describe. I held down the lock button til the phone rebooted. I think I was using the Dolphin Browser at the time.

1. Poor battery.
2. Sync errors: calendar sync freezes up every once in a while
3. Brightness slider in notification bar gone, tasker can not effect change of brightness anymore, only choice is to keep automatic brightness on, otherwise blinded out in sun.
4. Contacts and phone apps show up in 5s or more to load: need to switch to those ugly dialers, no choice at all
5. No widgets menu in app drawer as in nexus ICS
6. Launchers freezing: tried both nova and apex: many a times the screen went blank for a few seconds after hitting home (didn't crash though)
