Very easy 2.1 root app in market - XPERIA X10 General

Sorry if this has been mentioned previously but i found a very very easy app in market for rooting our 2.1, its an app called
z4root. Its similar to the an app which was available for the 1.6 fw. I thought I would mention it as some other people as well as myself found it a pain in the ar*e to keep trying the superoneclick program which loops. I tested z4rout on my worldwide generic 2.1 no problems. I even tried unrooting and re-rooting using this app and no problems. If this has been covered/mentioned please close this thread, just thought I would our back just a little from what u have taken from xda over the past year ;-)

Are you like a wannabe xda forum moderator, because all i ever see is your name policing everyone elses posts whether they are asking a question or just trying to be helpful. Have you actually ever contributed or do you actually just rack up your post count from purely policing everyone elses contributions? either way at the end of the day

Androidfanboi - don't start a flame war. XperiaX10User has been around here for quite some time and has contributed extensively to this community. I agree he could've been more polite in his response, but the fact of the matter is that forum users everywhere (not just on XDA) have to learn to use the search function. There's no excuse not to, as it works quite well here.

Sorry for the hassle guys, I will ensure I search more thoroughly in future

Post What Where:
General - general technical discussion items, news, anything else that does not fit into the other fora categories.
Q&A (Questions and Answers) - all questions, irrespective of type, get posted in here whether they be theme related, accessory related, technical, etc.
Accessories - any items to do with components and/or accessories relating to your device.
Rom Development - only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here.
Themes & Apps - anything to do directly with the development of themes and/or applications. Nothing else goes in here.
MOD EDIT: BEFORE POSTING ANY THREAD IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.
Similarly, don't make loads of "Thanks for your work here" posts in an active development thread. It's just as annoying to developers as asking when something will be ready. If a ROM is complete, then go ahead and thank the developer if you wish, but don't go into threads for devs only, and interrupt it to post "thanks". It's basically spamming, and is treated as such.
If you are posting in development, you should have read every sticky and notice there, and should be actively developing or helping in the development of something. Developing isn't installing a ROM, or using a tweak, it's creating a ROM or other hack or tweak. If you haven't read for several days before starting out on XDA, you are likely about to ask something already solved. I registered on XDA when I first wanted to post, and that was to join in a discussion on something. Sure, join up and ask a question, but read the information available in General and Q&A first, as your question will have been asked before. Search is your friend here, become familiar with it.
Regarding when to post in development if you are not actually developing something, there is one occasion where it's acceptable. If you find a leak of a new ROM, which isn't already posted, and you verify it's legitimacy via either running it, or based on the source you obtained it from, then this is assisting in development, and should be posted in development. If you want to ask when a leak will be available use search first, then if not already in discussion, open a thread in general or Q&A.
If you have a problem flashing a ROM, this is NOT related to development. It's up to you to determine if it is specific to a particular ROM, and post useful information in that developer's existing thread for the ROM. If it happens on more than one ROM, and isn't a known issue (remember you should read several times more words than you post), then find out what you are doing wrong. Check guides written by others, try to repeat the problem and see if it happens every time. Something needs to be reproducible to be fixed effectively.
Once you have identified what you need help with go to the device Q&A forum (general if device lacks one), and make a clear, informative thread that explains the issue, and what you have tried doing to fix it. Did you re-download the ROM? Did you ask a friend to flash it for you, to reduce chance of user error? What steps (exactly) did you follow? What errors did you see (exact wording)? Did you double check all the steps? Did you do a wipe or hard reset?
If you make a clear, concise, yet detailed post, you will find help forthcoming, and should get the problem sorted very quickly. If someone suggests you try something, report back on what happened, did it work etc. Then, next time someone has this issue and searches, they will find this and have a verified and tested solution.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?

The problem with his immature "get a job" remark is that he's clearly unaware that some can't work for a number reasons, or some people work from home, some people don't even need to work.
Which is why he should "keep his comments to himself" as he "dont know much about me".

Xperiax10user, I have seen from various threads in x10 section, u contribute heavily to x10 users in various ways. Yes I rushed in when I found this app and was so excited I and other users wouldn't have to toggle debugging to avoid looping superoneclick root method but that still doesn't excuse the fact I should have searched. First of all let me say thank you to everyone here. You have all been very helpful. Now to my question. First is there any fix for this annoying ass voicer mail notifier. I dismiss it and it doesn't go away. Second of all I'm new to all this, and I dont have a ton of extra stuff on my PPC but it seems to run slow. Closing out slow, and pulling up programs slow. Any suggestions as always would be GREATLY appreciated. Also what does applying all these different ROMS do for you. I see that everywhere. Let me apologize ahead of time for my ignorance. : )

It's kinda annoying wading through the massive amounts of stupidity on here asking the same questions over and over again because NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE F***ING SEARCH BUTTON IS FOR!!
I think it's kind of annoying wading through posts (after using the search button, by the way) thinking that someone has an answer to or a tip for a problem that I may have too only to find that someone is ripping on them for asking a question.

I am sympathetic to this point -- this forum has become so popular the key threads end up with 100's of msg., often out of sequence so it's really hard to follow when you're looking for something -- and it seems like most of my searches come up with thread references (usually the long ones) not specific msg. hits. Whether callmemoe looked hard enough on his own, I think the moderators and senior members need to take a look at the length of the key threads and cut some slack here!
There are two features that will help:
1) You can search and select to view the POSTS themselves, not just the threads. This is a big help.
2) You can search WITHIN a thread. Go to the thread you are interested in, and use the Thread Search option at the top of the thread. This will help you sort through the 800+ messages in a popular thread.
Oh, and sometimes, you just have to read ALL 800 messages!
I seldomly ask questions on here, because I lurk more, and learn more. The search button does work, tho a little tricky at first! I think some people can be a little too harsh on newbies when all you have to say is "use the search first, then ask later!" and just leave it at that. Johnnyshu0129, I encourage you to do alot of reading and keyword searching. To every question you have asked on here its already been discussed or is being discussed! Everything i wanted to know about my 8525 was relatively easy to find on here. Once youve done your research and, if theres something that you just cant grasp, then ask, because the vets on here, are really nice and love to help those who take out the time to help themselves first. They put in alot of work and time making programs and posting information that theyve discovered. All you have to do is wiki, and search button!

I think I speak for all the senior members when I say that we will gladly help *anyone* who we see as taking the time to at least TRY to understand what they're doing. Lord knows, I didn't get it the first time through, and I even bugged Pof about some issues.. But, it was filling in pieces of the puzzle that I didn't understand initially--not to ask for hand-holding.
It's OK to ask things like, "I understand that you can flash your OS and BootLoader using mtty, and also by using SSPL. I'd like to understand the differences between the two methods--is there a wiki page that has a comparison of the two?"
It's NOT ok to ask things like, "I'm a n00b and I want to install a winmob6 on my ph0ne. How do I do that?"

Because being here 4 months with 100+ posts makes you a senior member? You are only a "senior member" because of your post count. That and a buck 50 wont even get you on the train. Posts like this make your "senior" status less credible.

Well, sure.. That, and I've actually READ the WIKI and appropriate threads on here to know what the hell I'm talking about.
I even know how to use the search function! I know, it's a strange concept to some here, but, searches, and wiki reading are actually USEFUL!
I have also read the WiKi and all the appropriate posts. My phone still works, and I didn't have to post any questions. But that still doesn't stop me from answering a question. I don't think its always neccessary to grille a noob.
@teknics - that's great.. Hang around here long enough, and contribute back to the community by posting/answering good questions, or even taking it upon yourself to solve a common problem/concern, and you'll be a valuable addition to this community.
It's not about posting questions or answering them. It's about discovery and helping each other figure things out. The spoon-feeding is in the Wiki.
Oh, and the other thing that bugs me is that n00b's will create new threads when their post belongs in an existing thread. New threads do NOT get noticed 'more' than a new post in an existing thread.
I doubt I will ever contribute anything the likes of Pof or Sleuth, but I do plan on sticking around.
I just get annoyed when people act dumb on forums, so I appologize if I sounded harsh.
Charming gentleman this legolas.
Respect
I will do more searching before asking. I understand where your all coming from. And I respect that. I will reveiw more before asking questions. I appreciate the help from everyone. Maybe one day I'll be able to contribute as much as I take from this site.

If you truly wish to provide help, then your initial response should have been something along the line of: "Hey, I did a search and found this, <LINK>, maybe it'll help."
Instead of stating how stupid someone is to ask a question that has been already asked...
Any forum will have more 'lurkers' than posters, your response will not help these folks become active members here.
There is no such thing as a stupid question, but I have seen many stupid answers...

Stupid noobs...

why are there so many noobs filling up the dev section with questions or stupid things that can be answered with just a simple search theres 3 pages of crap and not really anything is out development wise for our phones but what is out and in the works is greatly appreciated

I think it's out of frustration. I've been on these forums READING for over a year just about every day. The DEV section should be the most moderated. There ends up being so much noise once it starts rolling, it's hard to keep up with any legitimate development changes or updates. Some people handle it "nicer" than others, but the point being, if people took the time to read before they type, their questions and comments are probably already covered. It's just frustrating seeing 3-4 mi gps iz brok threads on one page. Moderators will usually merge them so there is one cohesive conversation, not spread out over multiple threads. Why make them have to do that?
Think before you speak in forumese means read before you type.

In your Same Tone:
This Thread is useless, But seriously if you have been in different forums here on XDA from the very beginning, you will notice they are all like that and once roms and stuff starts getting developed, the amount of people asking and posting in wrong forums get minimized. I saw it with the G1, mytouch, htc Hero (EU), Nexus one, and now on here..... so if it upsets you that badly, create a site of your own and make it so that each user must take a "im not a noob Test" in order to become a member///-- End of Joke-- Or Just Wait a little longer for a Mod to be designated to clean out the mess.
i think it's due to a lot of people not realizing that this is a pretty technical forum so they think because they are asking a question that seems technical to them, they need to post it in the section that seems the most advanced. when really, dev is and should be just that, development. maybe 'general' should be renamed 'questions and help' or something.
but i'm a noob. i've been lurking and reading a bit, just don't post much. but i have to say, the first thread i made i got flamed (k, just toasted a little) because i asked for drivers AND help (in the right section), turns out the drivers everyone pointed me to i already had, so that was no help, and the other threads i read about mounting the phone didn't help. turned out the usb ports on the front of my pc just didn't like the phone, but of course it took posting a thread on here to make me think of something that simple.
that's my $.02

but i'm a noob. i've been lurking and reading a bit, just don't post much. but i have to say, the first thread i made i got flamed (k, just toasted a little) because i asked for drivers AND help (in the right section), turns out the drivers everyone pointed me to i already had, so that was no help, and the other threads i read about mounting the phone didn't help. turned out the usb ports on the front of my pc just didn't like the phone, but of course it took posting a thread on here to make me think of something that simple.
that's my $.02

i agree with you on this about people thinking it should be in dev and all that and it sounds reasonable i wass just hoping that maybe whoever sees and reads this will realize they should post here instead of the dev section even though there are stickies... i thought stupid noobs would bring some people in to read this lol
Skater, what are you talking about? The first post you posted in the development section was...
Uh, will the htc_ime work on this phone?
You, yourself posted a question about an app in the development section, and then got mad when I told you to search...
what did you yield? the apk.. how long did it take? not long...
when is the last time you actually sat down to help someone? to answer some questions? not just pulled up the dev section hoping there was a new rom out...
Dont stir the pot with this... just answer there question and educate them to post in the correct place, read the forum rules, or to search.. if a post gets out of hand, PM a Moderator and ask them to move/close a thread.. A wise man once said, contribute to the community or STFU...

well if you would have correctly looked at the post i said it worked but didnt work right and yes i found one that worked but thats cause i had to try 3 or 4 different ones until i came across one that worked and how can you search something that nothing was made for? and i answer questions all the time i help when i can all i see you doing is saying search for it yourself or this is the wrong section but never did you give any advice as where to find something or anything helpful so you should listen to yourself and take your own advice and ive helped some by finding that apk that does work... more than i can say for you

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. It's on you. Put a page before the dev forum explaining this is not a place for ideas tell them where to go this is a place to talk code basically. Give examples of common instances. Ie. The post about 2.2 the person was probably trying to be helpful (like devs wouldn't know). If you want peace say if you're unsure post in general and let s mod move it if necessary. Stop crying and do something about it. Personally I'm tired of both sides. I just want to make my phone better and help where I can.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Sony Ericsson Keyboard.

I used the Sony Ericsson Keyboard for the first time since they updated it today.
Everyone seems to hate, but it's not bad at all.
Especially when u want to pinpoint the cursor on a particular point. That's a nice touch.

lol what does the new keypad look like as my X10i doesn't seem to want to update
It doesn't seem to play nice with mutiple fast inputs on different parts of the screen... I know it's not an mt-optimized keyboard but the lag is noticeable and sometimes it does not even detect it when you press multiple buttons in rapid succession, ie when you come close to true multi-touch typing.

1. You started a thread stating that you like the keyboard. I am glad you do but, how does this help others?
2. You posted in the wrong section. You should have posted in Themes and Apps.
3. Had you searched, you would have found multiple threads related to this. Here and here and here and here. There are many other threads, I just pulled up the first ones that came up when I used the search button.
Maybe you should have posted your opinion on one of those threads rather than opening a new one in the wrong section?
Well, thanks for the heads up Bruce Wayne. But cut a new member some slack.
And isn't this section called X10 GENERAL.
So I thought, the stock keyboard is kinda general.
And, if I post something in a wrong place, offer correction, and don't be all rude and such.

What's Wrong With This Site?

I'd like to start off by thanking XDA & their Dev's for all the hard work & great software they make available for all of us noob's out here.
Now what is wrong with the rest of you? I've been looking over a lot of posts on XDA's Epic section & you cannot find the answers to any issues, that I know have already been discussed, without haveing to read pages & pages & pages of whining, bickering, & just down right immature & unappropiate off topic comments. This is the only Forum I have really found to be flooded like this. Jokes are great, but this is rediculous. Neither Android Central or Bonsia seem to have this issue. Android Central is a very good group, but a lot of the software comes from XDA so I come here to research at the source.
Really Guy's!! These Dev's bust their butt's to bring us this stuff & give all the help that the rest of us need to make it work. You should not be so disrespectful of them & the XDA site in general.
OK I'll get off of my soap box now.....

XD I think this one is outta your league bro, you can't change the user base. Its the ratio of regular users versus developers is my best guess, the Epic is very popular and by very different types of people. Plenty of personality clashes.

I have to agree with the OP. I came to the epic from the moment and the transform. These forums are flooded with questions and requests in the development section, people requesting user specific roms from the rom developer in the rom development threads, the same questions being asked over and over, etc. When I developed for the transform, the rom I developed was built for me, the kernel I developed was built for me, if someone wanted it different, they had to research and do it themselves.
Answers simple. From what I've noticed a lot of epic owners are young on this board. That and there are nerds up here that seems to think they've a huge cack. They complain about rolling, but dont realize there flooding the forum with nonsense just as much as the noobs.

Not to be fresh, but this topic has been discussed to death. If you're so worried about flooding the forum with repeated posts complaining about things, why are you doing just that? You could pm individuals and try to help them with ettiquite. I just don't think this kind of response will change things. There can be a mix of fun and tech. If a dev is offended, they've never had problems expressing so.

Its all comes down to moderating. If the moderators allow it to happen then there isn't much you can do. I know XDA being a very high volume traffic forum its hard to keep on top of the hundreds of posts each day here.
I do tip my hat to the devs and the ones that go out of their way to help others answer the questions but as far as the useless posts especially in ROM/Theme or Q & A threads its uncalled for and they should be removed if its off topic. It does get very aggravating trying to find information or stay on top of things when you have to read through post after post of wasted space.
This is just my two cents, I don't really have a problem with it but I do understand where the OP and others are coming from when trying to find answers and research things when your a noob or even a knowledgeable user.
Would it be worse if the Boost crowd roamed this forum?

WHERE U AT DAWG?!
God I miss those stupid commercials.
Nothing useful to add other than this forum has a bunch of very different personalities on it as was mentioned earlier, that and a very large number of them are very young/immature.... which amplifies the problem. Combine that with a product that has limited rom support/lacking sources etc compared to more popular phones that have high level development because of full sources and/or higher popularity... you get a whole lot of butthurt and entitlement issues from the peanut gallery.

I personally think that most issues come from people asking question about issues that come with the rom they're running that was mostly likely answered. To solve this issue with constant questioning of How to fix this and that I think someone who flashed a lot of roms and know a lot aout the epic should make a thread telling how to fix certain issues relating to any rom in particular. For example say that a rom keep having force closes, most likely the reason for these force closes are caused by a bad flash, so the thread would say "for multiply forces to be solve do a clean wipe ( wipe everything 3x) and reflash Rom." I chose this example because most issues people go through are multiply force closes when flashing new Roms.
The reason a lot of questions are left unanswered is because 90% of the time they have been answered already in about 10 different threads or posts. We get an ass-ton of repeat questions. I understand not everybody wants to sift through lots of unwanted clutter, but we do have a search feature for a reason.

New Forum Mod -Read Before Posting-

Hi all,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, my user name is original_ganjaman. I have been assigned to moderate this forum.
My goal is to keep this forum as clean and easy to find what you need as quickly as possible. I ask you to help me by posting in the correct sections.
Please only post ROM Development, Hacks, Mods, Fixes and Tutorials in the development section, all questions go in Q&A. This prevents the development section getting clogged up by irrelevant posts.
When posting in the development section, please try to provide as much information in the thread title as possible. It makes it easier for users to find what they are after. Here is a example provided by ooie.

Any word about splitting U8800 and U8800pro? The ROM's for U8800 don't work for U8800pro and vice-versa.
I'm glad we got someone who is active here .

When i was assigned this forum i read through some of the threads. I did notice this was a common question. I as of yet have not been informed of any split. For now you will just have to live with it, But i do see the frustration. This is not the only device with this problem and i am sure it will be addressed as quickly as possible. When i hear any news i will post.
I will be keeping a close eye on this forum and would appreciate any help.
Peace!
Its a really good thing we get a moderator that has time to do his job. Welcome to U8800 forums!

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I would also like to thank those who have sent RPs. They help me keep everything nice and tidy and to weed out the unsavory posts!
Peace!
Could you enforce some sort of mandatory thread naming requirement for this subforum? I see a lot of people complaining about it.
Something like
[Type][Date][Model]Rom name here[Android/Linux kernel version number]
Click to collapse
for example
[ROM][Dec 13][U8800]OOIE rom v0.1[2.3.7]
[Kernel][Dec 8][U8800]Superfasthyperkernel 1.0[2.6.35.7]
Click to collapse
(and maybe add a tag if it's experimental or in an alpha/beta phase)
This is just one proposal, but I think would make it much more easier for everyone. Please state what you think.

Tell me about it, just been sorting it all out. I personally think its a good idea to have some kind of mandatory thread naming system, it would make information easier to find. Unfortunately as far as i am aware there is nothing in the forum rules about it, so i cant really enforce any type of system. What i will do is update the read before posting sticky asking for users to Name the thread appropriately. But as i said its not fair to enforce it as its not in other forums. Best thing, if the info is not there to PM the OP and politely ask him to add the info. If you don't get a polite reply, let me know.
I will think of some sort of system and post it here tomorrow.
Hows that?
And the U8800-51?

Huawei make 3 versions por the Ideos X5: U8800 (2010, December), U8800PRO (2011, Q2) and the U8800-51 (2011, Q3). Three different machines for the same model, different CPU and Chipset, so, the ROM, tools, hints and tips are totally incompatible between the models. We really need to split the forum.

And the U8800 is like the U8800Pro, with different processor and chipset.

As i said before, i do see the frustration on this matter. It is not the only device in this situation. The matter is being looked into by the moderator committee. When a decision has been made i will post. But for now we will just have to live with it.
Sorry i cant help any further.
Hi all
I have had a response to the request for a separate u8800pro. It looks like it will have to go through the usual request procedure. It really is down to the amount of people who get behind it. So if somebody wants to request it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=263
With the amount of new devices getting released it is a hard call to pick the popular ones. So if you want it, get behind it and post.
So for now thats all i can do. Sorry its not a happier answer, but its not down to me.
Take it easy

I had already answered this. I have done all i can about it, if you want it then post in the forum i suggested
If anybody else asks this, the post will be deleted. I dont want this thread to be a list of people asking the same question. Its out of my hands!!
Take it easy

ValenteL gave a good example.
I thought you already know what is moderator job. Just say that you don't know how to do it.
Or maybe you can learn how to do it. Come on. Don't take it too easy. Many ppl wait for it.

I have made it very clear. i am not responsible for adding subforums. I did my best by posting in the mod forum asking for it to be added. But was told that enough people had to get behind it. I said somebody should start a thread in the about xda forum and then people to post there interest in the forum being split.
Now i have done beyond what my job is as a moderator. In the end i put my time in for free to try to keep this forum moderated. This does not include the administration of this great forum. If you have a problem with that i suggest you contact MikeChannon, he is the site administrator.
Now, your responsibility as a user. One of these is to read the posts in the thread, if you would of done this, all your questions would of been answered. So i would say you have quite epically failed in this. I could of just deleted your post, like i warned i would. So call this a final warning.
So what have you contributed to this forum?
So for the last time, If you want a sub forum then post a thread here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416406
You keep taking it "easy"

Thank you for your kind words of support. I am pleased hear that my work has made this forum better. Thanks to all that have helped me out by reporting posts, it has helped me a lot
A merry Christmas/Holiday to all
Cheers for helping moderate around here.
Could we have the wiki for the x5 stickied in the general thread? I am trying to get a handle on what is available and working on the x5 and having a wiki visible could make people more likely to use it and keep it up to date so all info is central.
See thread here:
