Sony Ericsson Keyboard. - XPERIA X10 General

I used the Sony Ericsson Keyboard for the first time since they updated it today.
Everyone seems to hate, but it's not bad at all.
Especially when u want to pinpoint the cursor on a particular point. That's a nice touch.

To maybe educate people about any improvement to the x10 keyboard.
What I didn't like about SE's KB was the lag. Do you notice any while using it?

I did notice the lag, but it only comes at start then vanishes away
the only thing that keeps me using it is the pinpoint, it is really helpful and very useful to me

I like the easier editing but not the rest of it. I use the Vlingo keyboard for the voice features and the darker color scheme.

It's definitely not the best keyboard. I have the HTC keyboard, and swype, believe me, I know.
But it's a big improvement from what it used to be.
PS: I don't notice any lag.

lol what does the new keypad look like as my X10i doesn't seem to want to update

It doesn't seem to play nice with mutiple fast inputs on different parts of the screen... I know it's not an mt-optimized keyboard but the lag is noticeable and sometimes it does not even detect it when you press multiple buttons in rapid succession, ie when you come close to true multi-touch typing.

1. You started a thread stating that you like the keyboard. I am glad you do but, how does this help others?
2. You posted in the wrong section. You should have posted in Themes and Apps.
3. Had you searched, you would have found multiple threads related to this. Here and here and here and here. There are many other threads, I just pulled up the first ones that came up when I used the search button.
Maybe you should have posted your opinion on one of those threads rather than opening a new one in the wrong section?

Well, thanks for the heads up Bruce Wayne. But cut a new member some slack.
And isn't this section called X10 GENERAL.
So I thought, the stock keyboard is kinda general.
And, if I post something in a wrong place, offer correction, and don't be all rude and such.

Post What Where:
General - general technical discussion items, news, anything else that does not fit into the other fora categories.
Q&A (Questions and Answers) - all questions, irrespective of type, get posted in here whether they be theme related, accessory related, technical, etc.
Accessories - any items to do with components and/or accessories relating to your device.
Rom Development - only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here.
Themes & Apps - anything to do directly with the development of themes and/or applications. Nothing else goes in here.
MOD EDIT: BEFORE POSTING ANY THREAD IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.
Similarly, don't make loads of "Thanks for your work here" posts in an active development thread. It's just as annoying to developers as asking when something will be ready. If a ROM is complete, then go ahead and thank the developer if you wish, but don't go into threads for devs only, and interrupt it to post "thanks". It's basically spamming, and is treated as such.
If you are posting in development, you should have read every sticky and notice there, and should be actively developing or helping in the development of something. Developing isn't installing a ROM, or using a tweak, it's creating a ROM or other hack or tweak. If you haven't read for several days before starting out on XDA, you are likely about to ask something already solved. I registered on XDA when I first wanted to post, and that was to join in a discussion on something. Sure, join up and ask a question, but read the information available in General and Q&A first, as your question will have been asked before. Search is your friend here, become familiar with it.
Regarding when to post in development if you are not actually developing something, there is one occasion where it's acceptable. If you find a leak of a new ROM, which isn't already posted, and you verify it's legitimacy via either running it, or based on the source you obtained it from, then this is assisting in development, and should be posted in development. If you want to ask when a leak will be available use search first, then if not already in discussion, open a thread in general or Q&A.
If you have a problem flashing a ROM, this is NOT related to development. It's up to you to determine if it is specific to a particular ROM, and post useful information in that developer's existing thread for the ROM. If it happens on more than one ROM, and isn't a known issue (remember you should read several times more words than you post), then find out what you are doing wrong. Check guides written by others, try to repeat the problem and see if it happens every time. Something needs to be reproducible to be fixed effectively.
Once you have identified what you need help with go to the device Q&A forum (general if device lacks one), and make a clear, informative thread that explains the issue, and what you have tried doing to fix it. Did you re-download the ROM? Did you ask a friend to flash it for you, to reduce chance of user error? What steps (exactly) did you follow? What errors did you see (exact wording)? Did you double check all the steps? Did you do a wipe or hard reset?
If you make a clear, concise, yet detailed post, you will find help forthcoming, and should get the problem sorted very quickly. If someone suggests you try something, report back on what happened, did it work etc. Then, next time someone has this issue and searches, they will find this and have a verified and tested solution.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?

Very easy 2.1 root app in market

Sorry if this has been mentioned previously but i found a very very easy app in market for rooting our 2.1, its an app called
z4root. Its similar to the an app which was available for the 1.6 fw. I thought I would mention it as some other people as well as myself found it a pain in the ar*e to keep trying the superoneclick program which loops. I tested z4rout on my worldwide generic 2.1 no problems. I even tried unrooting and re-rooting using this app and no problems. If this has been covered/mentioned please close this thread, just thought I would our back just a little from what u have taken from xda over the past year ;-)

Androidfanboi - don't start a flame war. XperiaX10User has been around here for quite some time and has contributed extensively to this community. I agree he could've been more polite in his response, but the fact of the matter is that forum users everywhere (not just on XDA) have to learn to use the search function. There's no excuse not to, as it works quite well here.

The problem with his immature "get a job" remark is that he's clearly unaware that some can't work for a number reasons, or some people work from home, some people don't even need to work.
Which is why he should "keep his comments to himself" as he "dont know much about me".

What's Wrong With This Site?

I'd like to start off by thanking XDA & their Dev's for all the hard work & great software they make available for all of us noob's out here.
Now what is wrong with the rest of you? I've been looking over a lot of posts on XDA's Epic section & you cannot find the answers to any issues, that I know have already been discussed, without haveing to read pages & pages & pages of whining, bickering, & just down right immature & unappropiate off topic comments. This is the only Forum I have really found to be flooded like this. Jokes are great, but this is rediculous. Neither Android Central or Bonsia seem to have this issue. Android Central is a very good group, but a lot of the software comes from XDA so I come here to research at the source.
Really Guy's!! These Dev's bust their butt's to bring us this stuff & give all the help that the rest of us need to make it work. You should not be so disrespectful of them & the XDA site in general.
OK I'll get off of my soap box now.....

XD I think this one is outta your league bro, you can't change the user base. Its the ratio of regular users versus developers is my best guess, the Epic is very popular and by very different types of people. Plenty of personality clashes.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I have to agree with the OP. I came to the epic from the moment and the transform. These forums are flooded with questions and requests in the development section, people requesting user specific roms from the rom developer in the rom development threads, the same questions being asked over and over, etc. When I developed for the transform, the rom I developed was built for me, the kernel I developed was built for me, if someone wanted it different, they had to research and do it themselves.
Answers simple. From what I've noticed a lot of epic owners are young on this board. That and there are nerds up here that seems to think they've a huge cack. They complain about rolling, but dont realize there flooding the forum with nonsense just as much as the noobs.

Not to be fresh, but this topic has been discussed to death. If you're so worried about flooding the forum with repeated posts complaining about things, why are you doing just that? You could pm individuals and try to help them with ettiquite. I just don't think this kind of response will change things. There can be a mix of fun and tech. If a dev is offended, they've never had problems expressing so.

You could pm individuals and try to help them with ettiquite. I just don't think this kind of response will change things. There can be a mix of fun and tech. If a dev is offended, they've never had problems expressing so.

This thread was a mix of a thank you to the devs themers and mods who put their time and effort to bring us everything they put out(lol) , along with a sidenote to all those trolling and dickering on the forums.
I didn't join to long ago, I'm 16 in highschool ,hah, but for the first couple of weeks I would just lurk around with no post t try and learn on my own before posting something already answered/irrelevent to the topic and such, and I've noticed these forums have just gone downhill since I've joined. There's a dev drain going on around here. I think what all the devs and themers mods really need is some gratefullness from us, their end users...
Then again that's just my 2 cents thrown in the mix. Have a good day everyone

Well said. I think that it comes from the Epic's user base, which, IMO, tends to be a bit more techie, a bit less social skilled, and a bit more easy to get into a huff.

Its all comes down to moderating. If the moderators allow it to happen then there isn't much you can do. I know XDA being a very high volume traffic forum its hard to keep on top of the hundreds of posts each day here.
I do tip my hat to the devs and the ones that go out of their way to help others answer the questions but as far as the useless posts especially in ROM/Theme or Q & A threads its uncalled for and they should be removed if its off topic. It does get very aggravating trying to find information or stay on top of things when you have to read through post after post of wasted space.
This is just my two cents, I don't really have a problem with it but I do understand where the OP and others are coming from when trying to find answers and research things when your a noob or even a knowledgeable user.
Would it be worse if the Boost crowd roamed this forum?
I'm part of that boost crowd I guess...

WHERE U AT DAWG?!
God I miss those stupid commercials.
Nothing useful to add other than this forum has a bunch of very different personalities on it as was mentioned earlier, that and a very large number of them are very young/immature.... which amplifies the problem. Combine that with a product that has limited rom support/lacking sources etc compared to more popular phones that have high level development because of full sources and/or higher popularity... you get a whole lot of butthurt and entitlement issues from the peanut gallery.

I personally think that most issues come from people asking question about issues that come with the rom they're running that was mostly likely answered. To solve this issue with constant questioning of How to fix this and that I think someone who flashed a lot of roms and know a lot aout the epic should make a thread telling how to fix certain issues relating to any rom in particular. For example say that a rom keep having force closes, most likely the reason for these force closes are caused by a bad flash, so the thread would say "for multiply forces to be solve do a clean wipe ( wipe everything 3x) and reflash Rom." I chose this example because most issues people go through are multiply force closes when flashing new Roms.
The reason a lot of questions are left unanswered is because 90% of the time they have been answered already in about 10 different threads or posts. We get an ass-ton of repeat questions. I understand not everybody wants to sift through lots of unwanted clutter, but we do have a search feature for a reason.

New Forum Mod -Read Before Posting-

Hi all,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, my user name is original_ganjaman. I have been assigned to moderate this forum.
My goal is to keep this forum as clean and easy to find what you need as quickly as possible. I ask you to help me by posting in the correct sections.
Please only post ROM Development, Hacks, Mods, Fixes and Tutorials in the development section, all questions go in Q&A. This prevents the development section getting clogged up by irrelevant posts.
When posting in the development section, please try to provide as much information in the thread title as possible. It makes it easier for users to find what they are after. Here is a example provided by ooie.
[Type][Date][Model]Rom name here[Android/Linux kernel version number][Beta/Alpha]
Click to collapse
Resulting in the thread title looking like this:
[ROM][Dec 13][U8800]OOIE rom v0.1[2.3.7][BETA]
Click to collapse
If you see any thread that is in the wrong section or if you see any questionable posts, please don't hesitate to click the report (

Please post any sticky requests in this thread.
Lets all work together to make this a fantastic forum
Any word about splitting U8800 and U8800pro? The ROM's for U8800 don't work for U8800pro and vice-versa.
I'm glad we got someone who is active here .

When i hear any news i will post.
I will be keeping a close eye on this forum and would appreciate any help.

Could you enforce some sort of mandatory thread naming requirement for this subforum? I see a lot of people complaining about it.
Something like
[Type][Date][Model]Rom name here[Android/Linux kernel version number]
Click to collapse
for example
[ROM][Dec 13][U8800]OOIE rom v0.1[2.3.7]
[Kernel][Dec 8][U8800]Superfasthyperkernel 1.0[2.6.35.7]
Click to collapse
(and maybe add a tag if it's experimental or in an alpha/beta phase)
This is just one proposal, but I think would make it much more easier for everyone. Please state what you think.

Tell me about it, just been sorting it all out. I personally think its a good idea to have some kind of mandatory thread naming system, it would make information easier to find. Unfortunately as far as i am aware there is nothing in the forum rules about it, so i cant really enforce any type of system. What i will do is update the read before posting sticky asking for users to Name the thread appropriately. But as i said its not fair to enforce it as its not in other forums. Best thing, if the info is not there to PM the OP and politely ask him to add the info. If you don't get a polite reply, let me know.
I will think of some sort of system and post it here tomorrow.
Hows that?
And the U8800-51?

Huawei make 3 versions por the Ideos X5: U8800 (2010, December), U8800PRO (2011, Q2) and the U8800-51 (2011, Q3). Three different machines for the same model, different CPU and Chipset, so, the ROM, tools, hints and tips are totally incompatible between the models. We really need to split the forum.

As i said before, i do see the frustration on this matter. It is not the only device in this situation. The matter is being looked into by the moderator committee. When a decision has been made i will post. But for now we will just have to live with it.
Sorry i cant help any further.
Hi all
I have had a response to the request for a separate u8800pro. It looks like it will have to go through the usual request procedure. It really is down to the amount of people who get behind it. So if somebody wants to request it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=263
With the amount of new devices getting released it is a hard call to pick the popular ones. So if you want it, get behind it and post.
So for now thats all i can do. Sorry its not a happier answer, but its not down to me.
Take it easy

I have made it very clear. i am not responsible for adding subforums. I did my best by posting in the mod forum asking for it to be added. But was told that enough people had to get behind it. I said somebody should start a thread in the about xda forum and then people to post there interest in the forum being split.
Now i have done beyond what my job is as a moderator. In the end i put my time in for free to try to keep this forum moderated. This does not include the administration of this great forum. If you have a problem with that i suggest you contact MikeChannon, he is the site administrator.
Now, your responsibility as a user. One of these is to read the posts in the thread, if you would of done this, all your questions would of been answered. So i would say you have quite epically failed in this. I could of just deleted your post, like i warned i would. So call this a final warning.
So what have you contributed to this forum?
So for the last time, If you want a sub forum then post a thread here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416406
You keep taking it "easy"

Could we have the wiki for the x5 stickied in the general thread? I am trying to get a handle on what is available and working on the x5 and having a wiki visible could make people more likely to use it and keep it up to date so all info is central.

Or we could discuss your intelligence, or rather lack there of. I mean really, I use my Android while driving my BMW, why not start a thread on that? The forum rules are very clear: ONLY threads listing roms, kernels, etc. are allowed here. Simple disregard for forum rules & organization. THIS is why people don't bother to read threads before asking questions, they are cluttered with nonsense. The posting rules are in place for a reason : to keep useless BS post out of the forums we go to for important stuff. Posting this was either a noob mistake or an idiotic move on behalf of the op.
I actually found this thread useful.
Seeing how rom-devs are dime-o-dozen these days, to know Peter was moving from NS to NS4G , answers a lot of my questions, and helps me prevent wasting buttloads of time, flashing other ppls "gold"

Obviously it is in the wrong section. But I will continue to find it humorous that such a large percentage of posts in forums are about housekeeping/protocol issues. "Don't ask this question, post in this other section" etc. If these things bother you so much, you truly are wasting your time, right now, reading this post.

Well by looking at your post count, you haven't been around here very long and might not know the drama that unfolded in the past. In this phone's section at least, it doesn't matter where you post your topic. It will be moved and or locked by the powers that be. It might get moved within the nexus s section or it might get thrown into a completely different section of the forum on a whim. Your posts will get edited, locked, moved, deleted, etc. Even if you are a developer and make a rom, if the you know what decides that it's not supposed to be in the development section, it's gone. The (censored) is god around here and doesn't get along well with some people. Pete left probably because he got tired of the bs and being harassed by this (beeeep). Not trying to be a MOD Butttt can we get back on topic and get some feedback on the ROM posted by the OP?

there was no rom posted by the op. this is simply a "head's up" about pete's upcoming rom. i personally can't wait for it.

{ATTENTION ALL USERS] off topic/rubbish in dev forum

The Sony Xperia Arc/S Development forum is being ruined!!!!
Its meant to be a forum where the great devs post their roms, but users are ruining it with posts, posts about
'how do I flash this kernal' or 'how do i flash this rom? what order do I flash it?'
thats not really nothing to do with Development of Roms, its laziness of not reading the General or Q and A forum! each of the two forums I have mention have a very in depth guide how to flash a kernal, flash a rom, flash FTF files, everything!!!!
this place is not a playschool, you shouldnt need your hands holding flashing anything to your phone, thats what search is for!!!
MODS..... You need to sort out the dev forum, it makes horrible reading the amount of off-topic posts (not telling you how to do your jobs, as you do your jobs well!)
who agrees with me? look, my wife is not technology minded at all, but reading all the posts, she managed to unlock bootloader, flash a stock FTF file, install a kernal, installed a custom rom.....surely my wife (bless her) doesnt know phones at all, managed to do that, surely any/every user can do the same, remember.....read General forum (STICKY POSTS) and Q & A forum, or use Google!!!!!
Maybe you should put this as a sticky?

I think you've hit the nail on the head, and given some of the discussions in the main forum in regards to the 10 post rule and noobs, it seems that "kids" with their new Android Phones are flocking here, not with the intention to learn anything, but to make their Phones "the best" whatever, which has changed the XDA experience imo.

Not all "kids" are like your description. I´m also 15 years old but I really enjoy learning something here on XDA. I even also hate spam posts so your statement is much to generalized.
there are kids in every phones forum
The worst part is that nobody wants to read at all. All wants step by step solution but no body reads. I am tired of reporting. The situation is quite same in all the Xperia Forums.
It must be pretty hard for the MODs to control so much off topic discussions.

Well, we must admit that we are the same to them
when we are new to xda, so we can't do anything about it..

No, I can't agree with you. I joined at XDA 2 years ago and was a total noob back then. All i did was, i read, i searched and i asked questions only in relevant threads.
By doing this I've learned from so many other users and their threads.
All I am saying that, first the new users must read, cause most of the solutions are already solved for them in the Sticky threads.
Second if there's a serious problem then you are most welcome to post your questions in the Q/A forum. But questions like how to root, or How to flash a kernel or Which ROM to choose or Which Kernel is better, Bootloader unlocking is good or bad, questions like these, i am sorry but mustn't be encouraged.
Cause all the off topic discussions are seriously ruining the main point of this wonderful forum.
Agree with you Auni, although I Joined in 2007, I read, re-read every post on how to flash my phone (in those days it was only windows mobiles on here), And every different Android mobile I have bought, I have always read the sticky first.
This site needs to higher the amount of posts you need to access the Dev forum, I know we all start as Newbies, but reading etc and trial and error is great experience.
The best thing is, they have Root and want to flash something, but to read the titel or the op is to heavy for them
KIDS PHONE?! I'm 26 you bastards! Lol but seriously it's a fairly outdated phone, but I would hardly call it a kids phone, unless it's been handed down. To buy it, it's still quite pricey, £150 used to almost £300 new. The Galaxy Ace is more a kids phone because of the price bracket it falls in, there are many phones out there that are cheap, any 'kid' that has this phone is lucky.
Also I've not noticed it getting bloated with kids. Let's not forget Jader who is the most popular dev for our phone, he's been doing stuff for over a year now, and has recently turned 16 I believe. He released UHD when he was 15.
You might be older, but respect goes both ways, because when you are 80, you will need someone to wipe your arse, so yeah. Give them a bit of respect!

I too, don't think the Arc S is a kids phone, im nearly 41 years old, and love tinkering around with my phone, thanks to this site I've become a bit of a flashaholic But you going a bit off topic mate, this post is merely stating about users who don't read the stickies or posts, and just ask in every single post 'how do I flash this or that', its a great phone too @stu15 - I only paid £99 quid for mine....Bargain!!!
And massive respect to the devs (especially Jader), who have created some great roms, and at such a young ages too!
It's easy to get lost on the forums if you're new, the stickies are great, but new people might not understand how forums work. The internet is full of answered questions, but people prefer to ask their question, even if it's just worded differently.
It's probably not unique to the Arc forum, it's probably in most forums on XDA.
Also, £99? Thats what I sold my 3 year old iPhone 3G for early last year. Where did you get it?

It's not about it being a kids Phone, the point is it's the mindset of the growing user base of xda is destroying the forums, and it's not being disrespectful, the likes of Jader have earned their stripes here, no one can deny that, it's the kind of People who come here for all the wrong reasons that are the problem.

Same here, I knew nothing, but then by reading, practicing, screwing up, having to reflash with SEUS 5 times in a row whilst trying to make a particular modification is how I learned and continue to learn everything I know today which is why I find it highly frustrating when others clearly don't have the same intention to do the same. I've tried to argue the fact that "we were all noobs once" and that forums should change to accommodate the Android generation as have others in other discussions in the main forums but it's always met with the same response, these are developer forums and there's a certain etiquette to be followed, so by spoon feeding the lazy is just to add to the destruction of these forums, which is why I'll pull someone up first about their laziness before offering help.
And what I find funny is after a certain time of being here, members who initially took issues with my kind of posts when they first joined, start to make similar ones when they get sick of the repetitiveness of "how to root" threads.

I'm very surprised anyone would sell it for that cheap, it may be single core but it's still a great phone and is worth a lot more than that!!
-- But in regards to the topic, I used to moderate a small forum a few years back and you get people who dont read stickies, double post, post same questions, post in wrong threads. Etc etc.
It's one of the natures of the forum format. It's also important to remember lots of users are not English, and have only a small grasp on the basics, which makes following the rules, or finding the right information much harder.
The obvious way to start making the forums more controlled, is by making accounts only creatable through invitations. That might help a little, obviously people will still be able to read the information, which might be enough.
