hello, its that time of the year where i get to upgrade my fone , im unsure which fone is better, mytouch 3g slide or the motorola backflip, which one works better with speed performance and for the price tag?
The slide is better fo sho.
Sent from rooted Mytouch slide.
The Slide is better than the backflip, but the G2is better than the slide
Definitely the Slide. I had a touch pro 2; fortunately the digitizer messed up on mine and that's when I discovered Android. Don't get me wrong, I love the touch pro 2. The best keyboard hands down is on the TP2. The speaker and dual mic's work excellent, but the software (windows 6.5) suck compared to Android.

If you are willing to throw down some more cash I would recommend getting the mytouch 4g since it has a faster processor, front facing cam for video calls, larger screen, etc.

I agree with this, or even the G2. The MT3GS is nice, but a lot of devs are leaving it for other phones.

I could bet money that you'll definitely love the Slide, especially coming from windows mobile. Have you ever owned an android or played with one? The only thing you might miss from the tp2 is the keyboard since it is a 5 row in oppose to the Slide's 4 row and that the screen tilts like a keyboard.I used to love tilting the screen and people staring in amaze. Some people actually thought the phone was a mini laptop. Although the screen is bigger than the slide, I have a feeling you'll get used to the Slide's smaller 3.4 inch screen in oppose to the tp2's 3.6 inch.

I know the screen resolution is lower on the myTouch Slide, but I think the screen actually looks better than the tp2 for some reason. I remember I used to always play with Android on my tp2. The tp2 is the phone that introduced me to Android unofficially and the G1 was my first official Android phone. Let us know your thoughts about the Slide. The only thing I hate is the signal on the Slide. Every now and then for some weird reason the signal bar goes from 4 to 2 bars. I think its a software issue though.

I was going to get the Hero but I can get the Magic on a much better deal.
But is this phone reliable? Is it built well?
I want it to last me over a year and my previous HTC Touch Diamond was not built very well.

I've had my Magic since first UK launch and it looks like new. No case, no screen protector - although I did use a Gel Skin for a little while.
Is the hardware holding up well? As in , the internals? have you had any problems?

Internals are all still working - I can't say I've dissected it though lol.
My biggest problem was I got a Palm Pre. That's back in it's box until WebOS matures and the UK get the full app market.
I use my Magic for:
- Trapster to and from work every day (in a Brodit mount)
- CoPilot GPS
- Listening to music and podcasts at work.
- multiple email accounts all day at work and home
- web browsing
- heavy phone use
- medium texting
I've had absolutely no issues - I'm a careful phone owner though..
By comparison I used the Pre for a couple of months before it went back in it's box. It has mild Oreo already...
The only tip I'd give is keep it a pocket away from sharp things... I have a 'phone pocket' in my jacket and it lives in there or in a left front jeans pocket with only tissues for company..
I have noticed a tiny blemish on the lower edge, but that's it. The plastic shell seems fairly tough to me. I'd rate the build quality as good as the iPhone 3g for sturdiness overall.
Battery door still fits snugly too...
You should wait for the new Magic/MT3G-V2 that's gonna be released. If you save up you can get one of the phones from the HTC roadmap instead. Plus do you really wanna be stuck with a phone from last decade?
Well Im asking about the Magic because that is what I can afford right now. I wont be able to afford the newer phones because if I could, I would just get the Hero.
It's a good phone, solid, well built, my only complaint is the smaller RAM but it's managable (32B). I have a gel skin and a screen protector as well. But I agree this phone is so last year . I heard theres a MyTouch slide on the way. If its confirmed that will be my next phone.
I've had the Rogers HTC Magic for 7 months and great so far. So problems whatsoever.

I wouldn't pick it up TBH. The myTouch "Slide" looks like it's going to have the SAME old antiquated ARM11 processor.
WHY WON'T THAT PROCESSOR GO AWAY ALREADY!
i have already play G2 5 days. music is not good at this phone.
I just made this thread to see how us G1/Dream owners feel about our outdated, falling apart phones.
Phones we should consider:
Nexus One
HTC Sidekick Twist
Samsung Galaxy S
HTC Evo 4g
Add more phones to the list and tell me how you feel about your G1 and why there is no worthy successor. (Full five row Qwerty and more)
Motorola Droid/Milestone. Does have qwerty.
But I think I'll wait until christmass with change
HTC needs to make the true next successor the G1
make it the first 4g phone on t-mobile call it the g2 release at the end of the year with gingerbread stock and bam SUCCESS
theres not a single phone out now, or rumored to be coming out that I would give up my G1 for.

Droid keyboard is ****ty, useless and doesn't have 5th numeric row.
I wonder if LG Ally will be available in Europe...
It hurt as the G1 has some good and bad points as
Only 5 row keyboard Android in U.S.
Started Android from rc28 (look at what Android has accomplished!!)
Limited Space
Outdated Processor
Is getting old and many are falling apart
Still goes for $150 - $450!!!!!!!
G1 did well to show Android but now we need a true successor.. Have you all seen the Inbrics M1? 5 row keyboard, but I wish it was stock Android 2.1
Mytouch 3G Slide FTW xD

I didn't look more than one google page deep but the last news I found was just a build id that said qwerty keyboard and the name of the phone, not enough for me to say I want. Seriously mu next phone purchase will be in 2011...by then we should have a dualcore mobile that kicks ass...now if only batteries followed moores law.
The Samsung Galaxy S Pro looks decent, it has a 5 row qwerty keyboard but still nothing on the specs (probably identical/similar to the Galaxy S).
HTC needs to re-release the G1/Dream with the Snapdragon processor, more ram/rom, better screen (higher resolution, better touchscreen, AMOLED display), better camera (at least 5MP with flash) and a normal headphone jack. Keep the same case/keyboard/screen size... I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Had my G1 for a couple of years now and it's a great android starter phone.
But after a while you come to realize it's not that great after all.
Just like that guy in Utah, that died by firing squad last night, I've decided to place my phone against a wall (blindfolded of course), and let off a .50 cal round from my M107, straight into the menu button. I offered it one last flash, but true to form and solid as a brick (get it? brick? hahahaha) it refused.
So the plan that i've being plotting for a while now is coming into fruition. I've discovered something that has literally thousands more apps, great ui/responsiveness and is cosmetically better looking.
Six days from the date of this post I will have my new phone.

I love the chin and real buttons! My girlfriend has a Droid, and everytime I go to hit any of those soft buttons, I'm momentarily aggravated. Especially for long presses, which I use VERY often. Same shell, maybe add an exterior hardware search button, replace the trackball with an optical pad, front facing camera, and maybe a seperate led for charging. That, and everything else that's been said, would be the best phone ever. And it'd be faster than my computer..
wc is still going on with his apple fan-boy craziness?
The only real successor to a G1 would be to completely remake it with nothing but hardware upgrades. And a tad bit stronger. I read many many posts about the keyboard messing up and the G1 just plain out falling apart as OP said. I think it was rushed, and Google should have based the Nexus One off of it. Who knows, maybe one day something will roll out.
I say all this and I'm stuck with a myTouch. :| I've actually considered selling/trading it for a G1. My myTouch is just in horrible condition from so many drunken nights, lol.

I disagree, I love the chin and the fact the buttons are separate from the screen, it allows you to easily use those buttons/trackball with the keyboard open.

The main problem I find with the "chin" isn't so much that it sticks out front, but that when the phone is laying flat on a desk, the "chin" section is lifted up. When you try to push a button, the thing pops up like a rake hitting a coyote in the head when he's trying to catch a roadrunner.
After seeing so many cracked screens I want my new phone to have a folding body with an inward facing screen when closed.
Also:
OLED screen
2 cameras
USB host
Infrared (handy sometimes)
iPhone destroyer beam
I was offered a trade for my Evo and 100 bucks for an Epic and the money isn't really THAT much of an issue but I wanted to know would I regret it in terms of not as many roms for support for the Epic or is the community as large and as Nice.
I did enjoy holding on in the store and if you look at my past posts I'm not a troll trying to start a debate I just want honest opinions. Would you go with the epic if you owned and Evo and why?

While we may not have as many devs tha evo users have, we do have some very good devs that do amazing work. We don't have 100 roms and kernels but we don't need 100, the roms we have are blazing. If you can i'd pick up the epic over the evo

I just came from the EVO a week ago. 2 things I don't like so far about the Epic are the charger plug being on the top of the phone and selecting text is not nearly as easy as on the EVO. The main thing that irritates me is the charger port placement. When I use the phone while charging the cord dangles annoyingly in my face. The text selecting is not going to be an issue once I'm rooted of course. Other than those things the Epic is a far superior phone imo. To add to the other post of pros, I'm getting much better battery life with the Epic compared to the EVO.

Awesome I think i'm going to make this deal happen before the guy gets second thoughts lol. I agree about it not needing as many roms as long as I can play my Galcon and Angry birds on it i'm good.
I really don't care for a physical keyboard as I haven't had a phone with one since the samsung instinct (went from the Instinct to the s30 to the Hero to the iPhone to the Nexus One to the Evo. And throw in a couple of Blackberries here and there along the way. lol) Swype and even swift keyboard work quicker for me than a physical keyboard. Maybe i'll get re aquatinted with it now.
I too like to change phone often. I was on the exact same boat a couple weeks ago when someone offered to trade my EVO for an Epic. The only thing we kept was our memory cards. In the beginning I was regretting as the charger cable got in my way, less development, and felt less sturdy. But after warming up to it a definetly prefer it. The screen is gorgeous and the hummingbird is defintely faster then snapdragon stock. I do miss 2.2 but it should come in november. Noobnl is also working on porting cynogen 6.1 so that's exciting news on the rom front. Just my 2cents. Enjoy!

I got my evo on launch day. Before the end if its days it was running cm6 rc1. U got my epic on release and it us far superior then running my evo with cm6. I haven't looked back now regretted making the switch. I think u used the physical key board once. I love having swype put installed. I didn't like how the swype beta worked on the evo
Sent from my Emotionless Beast of an Epic using the XDA App
The Epic is better then the evo in specs across the board, the rest is personal preferences.
im coming over from an evo and i dont regret it one bit..love the phone..even if its not on froyo yet i feel it performs better than the evo..i wasnt too big of a fan of touchwiz but with the launcher options that isnt even an issue..as far as the roms yes there arent many, but theres a few gems out right now and from what i understand the devs are hanging back until the update to froyo..so in my opinion i would say yes trade it for the epic but what i like you may not like
Well the deal was done and the selling point was the Evo section and showing the guy how to download rom after rom after rom for the Evo. I felt like putting my child up for adoption when he was holding my Evo and now the Epic is sitting in the corner like a pets first night in your home. Warming up to it in baby steps.
I do love the physical keyboard though. I think it was already broken in by the guy so it didn't feel stiff at all and my fat thumbs were having a field day. Now the next debate in my mind will be to Zagg shield or not to Zagg sheild. I wish they were universal because I wouldn't have given mine to him.
The case around it makes it bigger but has saved mine. Never used a screen prot. I've beat this thing up and havn't been able to hurt the screen. Crazy strong. I love the smooth glass feel. Can't do the protector. Good thing they used special glass.
The USB at the top is a hit and miss. I Never really ever charge it because I just switch out from my second Batt. I get a way better charge using the ext charger. Hold 100% for a good hour. But I can see it being a pain while using it.
But... if your plugging it in for the computer or in your car. Top is best. It will sit on the seat or in a slot/cup holder better.
I recommend a second Battery for every one.

Definitely agree. I picked up another one recently and it has been great. I use mine very very heavily and it usually only lasts around 9 hours. That's with heavy listening of music, texting, emails, etc... Definitely loving the fact that I never have to have it sit and charge

Lol I know what you mean. I had my Evo for awhile and bought an Epic a week after release. I switched back and forth on a regular basis between the Evo and Epic and always felt like I was cheating on the Evo. Finally made a committment today and sold my Evo for $425 and stuck with my mistress.
The only things I really miss about the Evo are some of the HTC apps as well as the sense widgets, mainly the email widget. Dont get me wrong the Evo was a great phone, but the Epic has a lot of features that won me over. Mainly the keyboard for playing games (Punch Out FTW!), the overall speed difference, and swype. I had swype on my evo, but there were always issues with it.

@a454nova: I did get an extra battery in the deal which was great for me. And I just realized how much better it is to have it charging from the top is in the car as i'm always driving. thanks for the obvious but I was oblivious to tip.
@chino0131: I have gotten used to not having them with the MIUI Rom for evo. Which was my favorite with the exception of Myns version 2.2. If you end up going from an Epic to an Evo I highly suggest the Myn rom. I also just got the dag-on desire animated flip clock on my evo. lol. I am going to miss sense and I must say the "Epic is better" is hogwash. Without the stats you wouldn't notice anything. But I am very happy with my Epic.
On another note, I'm still on the fence about getting a shield still. I'm going to look up the glass to see if it really is scratch resistant and what not. Can't wait for Froyo!
I reccomend getting a realook or clarivue screen protector over zagg. Zagg is thicker and more durable but the realook amd clarivue are super clear and thin and don't compromise the look of the screen at all and they feel almost as smooth as the glass screen. The screen is one of main selling point of the phone so u don't wanna comprimise the clarrity of the screen.

Where can I purchase these screen protectors? Are they only for sale online?
I went from an Evo to an Epic about a month ago or something. Overall I like the Epic, I'm just really starting to miss flash 10. I watch TV shows online all the time and can't do that anymore without froyo.
I think the Epic has better quality pictures. The screen is nice. The battery is longer, but I'm still waiting for my 2nd and 3rd batteries to come in the mail so I don't have to sit by an outlet before the end of the day.
My main selling point on the epic was the keyboard, which I sometimes get annoyed with when it doesnt recognize all the letters I type.
I had a screen protector on mine, but it keeps falling off so I finally just left it off. The way the glass feels and how the screen is unhindered is so much better, but I'm also paranoid of it getting scratched. Tough decision.
Overall, I'm dying for CM or a port of it. I like AOSP much more than any other launcher.

Yea online is ur best bet. They not too expensive and u can google coupon codes usually. These screen protectors are static cling so no sticky residue and no need for water solution/messy install like zagg.

I put an eXtreme guard protector on my Epic, had the same kind on my moment.
If you put it on well, you can hardly tell its there. It's the kind that goes on with a little soapy water. They're $2.49 with free shipping now, I think I paid $3.99.
Has a much better feel then ones that are just stick on, again you can hardly tell it's there even when using it.

is it me or is the vibrant better than the g2 by like a lot? i mean yeah the g2 has official froyo and all but i think that its pretty complicated on flashing stuff to the g2. i recently got it and on the first day i had it on a boot loop and it took me like 6 hours just to fix it and the funny thing is that after all the work fixing my semi brick i messed it up again trying to flash a gingervillian rom and i had to call tmobile for a replacement but then i fixed it so now im paying 20 bucks for expedited shipping and a replacement g2. anyways what im trying to say is that i think the vibrant is way better to do stuff with it like flashing roms and mods and all that. maybe its just me because ive had the vibrant for longer than the g2, where the g2 ive only had it for like two days already and i already managed to get traumatized by semi bricking it. and also i think the vibrant is way better because the 720p recording is better, the samoled screeen and awesome speaker and just more amazing. yeah i know i might sound like a vibrant fan boy but i honestly like my vibrant better the only reason i still have my g2 is because its keyboard but im sure im going to trade it for like a mytouch4g or something oh and may i add that the damn g2 is heavy. ugh. so thats just my opinion on that. no offence to the g2 owners, and im also not a noob to this stuff.
You probably won't find too many people who disagree with you in the Vibrant forum.
If you're gonna sell the G2, just keep the cash. You really don't need two phones. If you must have two phones, I'd wait to buy a dual core.
I sold my g2 for my Vibrant. And I have to say out of the box the g2 was better because everything worked. (mainly gps) but with the fixes and custom roms I am much happier with my vibrant as ccompared to the g2. Better display and wayyy lighter phone. And most reviews between the 2 will crown the vibrant ad the victor.

I would trade my Vibrant for a G2 in a second. I want a hardware keyboard, better screen be damned.

I wouldn't do this, but I would trade it for a myTouch 4G. Hardware keyboards bother me, and it would suck to downgrade on screen quality, but I'd love to have CyanogenMod again...

Lol I went from vibrant to g2 and g2 to mytouxh 4g if you want deal with htc qc issue then ok. I sold my myotuch 4g and came back to vibrant.
G2-loose hinge(the phone wobbles even with keyboard closed),no glass its plastic screen, loose battery cover on some of em,dead pixel
Mytouch 4g replaced it 5 times due to qc issue examples? Washed out screen (1/2 is washed out screen and other half is not. It has batter contrast and all that)
Front facing off centered. You have to tilt your phone to get your face in the centered
Loose battery cover. Battery cover just moves like hell
Dead pixel on some of em
Dust under the glass
Squeaky button.(kinda annoying)
Light leaks
Yup htc have good phones but too much qc issue.

Perfect vibrant for me!
Lol i`ve been wanting to get a G2 For a while i got the Vibrant right now but its a big mess and...it feels cheap...if you dont want it you can always work out a deal with me =D
It feels cheap? Would you want a dent or a lowed price battery replacement. And some guys are making aluminum backcovers in the general section I think.
The phone doesn't feel cheap. The mentality of "heavy = well built" has got to go. Yeah, the phone's light and mostly plastic. Most vehicles on the road now are 75% plastic as well. The difference is cars go 100+ mph and endure harsh conditions, while my phone sits in my pocket, desk or hand. I'd say plastic is sufficient for a phone.
Neither mine nor my wifes vibrant creak, squeak, feel loose, or have any other physical or mechanical flaws. We've both dropped ours multiple times on the pavement, both survived with minor scuffs each time. From what I understand though, the g2 has a loose hinge issue, and the mytouch has squeaky buttons. My wife is completely content with her stock 2.2 vibrant. She is the average consumer. I'm not. Mine is modified, and much more responsive than the stock g2 I owned for a short time, droid x I had for a day, and evo I play with everyday. Gps on the latest bionix is working as intended.
I don't think the vibrant is better than any of them (g2 in particular), but it isn't worse. It's personal opinion, they're both fast. If you prefer the features of one, or how one feels over the other, that's the one that's better for you. I prefer the vibrant.

right on @allthrottle i agree and i like the g2 now that i have a sense rom and i got a case for it so im not scared to have it around anymore and i got it cheap too, 10 bucks at tmo store, pretty weird accounting that tmo sells cases for like a lot like a gel skin case for the vibrant is like 20 i think. but yeah i got both phones and i like to play with the g2 more and i kind of use the vibrant as a music source i mean come on 16 gb is good for some music. the only thing i wish is that the g2 would of had a bigger screen i mean yeah i know that either you have the big display and no keyboard or the small display and a keyboard. honestly i dont use the keyboard as much on the g2. swype does its good on the phone and also i hate that the g2 isnt as bright as the vibrant. oh well i wonder if anyone else is like me with a vibrant and a g2...
My wife wanted my Vibrant. So, I read everything I could find about all the new phones. I ended up getting another Vibrant. With a custom ROM I have no complaints about my Vibrant.
I trade my phones alot on craigslist and get replacements from tmobile to get newcondition phone(started it recently) .. yes i know its wrong..
And i want to stop it.
I went through alot of phones in like 6month
Samsung Highlight.. ****ty phone
Iphone 3gs
Samsung vibrant (first android phone)
G2 (after i traded it perm root was available -. -)
Nexus one
Mytouch 4g replaced it 4 times due to washed out screen.
Back to vibrant
Back to g2 and now i want to go back to mytouch 4g..
Replaced g2 2 times to get the good one
Please dont flame me saying i have problem ialready know i have problem.. i just like to try new things
I want to stop it lol please tell me good things about g2 and bad things about mytouch 4g so i dont end up trading again
Like i said i already know i have problem just dont flame me

Yes you do.
They are both very close to the same phone. The g2 has a hardware keyboard, the mytouch cpu is clocked at 1ghz. That's pretty much it. It's not a matter of which is better, just what you prefer (that's the case with most phones). If you really can't stop then please see somebody.

bahahaha who cares if you trade phones?? who doesn't like switchin it up? i know i do. i just dont have the time. plus trading phones is much easier than seling and buying or just buying new ones all the time.. although you would just be able to swtich between your own phones..
and if your rooted you can just OC your g2. which i do to 1ghz.. i see no need for anything faster than that. unless its charging, i have it set to 1.2, just cause i usually charge it while i game.
ff camera is nice on the mytouch. gf has one. makes me sad i don't since i cant video chat unless i sit infront of mirror. but it works.
personally id take a g2.. duh. ffc doens't matter THAT much to me. and i text ALOT, main priority on a phone.. even thou i do use the on screen keyboard alot. my whole thought when deciding to wait for the mytouch 4g and getting the g2 was this.. if i am going to pay x amount for a phone.. i want the options of a physical keyboard if i wanna use one... and i love the look of it.
comes down to really, want a keyboard or a ffc? other than there there really not THAT different. all though i would take off the mytouch ui tmobile has on it.

Good choice.

Mt4g for more ram and better screen. G2 for hardware keyboard. Tough choice but I prefer the G2.
Nonsense!
MT4G : Plasticky feel, poor build compare to G2, no gorilla glass display, same resolution and similar screen size as G2, no keyboard, + point to a Front Facing Camera
G2 : Rock Solid Build, physical keyboard, superior performance with slower and similar processor(which can be oc'ed to 1.6 GHz), a bit bulky(good on its part as you know when your phone is not in your pocket vs. some lightweight phone where vibration isn't even felt), no front facing camera - Meh...
They both go neck to neck if we compare specs, as they both have similar hardware but personally i will stick to my G2 as it feels much better in my hand.

Htc was never listed under that site before but it looks like they recently added it... along with every Htc phone ever made. I doubt phones like the wrist and g1 have gg.
Also, how do you manage to exchange and craigslist phone?

I didn't mean any disrespect, it was just my opinion. I have used N1 and G2, compared to both of them only one phone feels superior to me and that was iPhone 4.
I have Atrix and NS, both of them can't come even closer to the feeling you get holding the N1 and G2 in your hand.
Just personally like that sturdyness so much that MT4G makes me feel something is missing.
Must be ghetto gorilla glass cause it does not feel anything like what I have always known be gorilla glass as in the Galaxy S line. Feel a vibrant screen then feel ours!

About to do the same, but i have the anti glare screen protector. i wonder if I'm going to miss it. Has anyone removed an anti glare screen protector and regret it?
I had one.. then got an invisishield.. then took that off... screen feels nice. IMHO.. smooth.. lil slippery compared to an invisishield, but nicer.
