hello friends. is your g2 suffering from a sudden shut down? tryin to type a message to your mom, just for your phone to shut off so she thinks you dont love her? loose your epic score on a game with a phantom black screen? your g2 is not alone. SSS (sudden shutdown syndrome) is a common disease found in many g2. what can you do to treat/prevent SSS?
check your sdcard lock friends. my g2, too, suffered from SSS. its a horrible disease that can interupt your life. upon goign to a tmo store to show them, the guy opened up my batter, clicked the sdcard securely inplace, and was not able to get it shutdown since. i was going to replace my phone. now, i dont have to!
if your sdcard door automatically opens when you pull the battery, it is not properly secured in place. press it down til you hear it snap in place.
hope this helps some of you guys out there with SSS.
This really doesn't have anything to do with the sd card disconnecting momentarily. You can completely pull out the sd card with the phone running and it won't shut down. My guess is instead that it was either coincidence for you or your G2 wasn't making proper contact with the battery. Let me know when you start having shutdowns again ^_^

Technically you can't remove the sd with a shutdown.you need to remove the battery to get to it.

I was downloading music onto my Wildfire with the Spotify app for offline playback when my handset went completely unresponsive. I can plug it to a charger and see the led light up, so it's not kernel panic. Also I hear notification sounds for incoming email and stuff. I just can't get the screen to go on.
This happened to me before and I took off the battery, which resulted in a corrupt file system on my SD card, so I'd like to avoid having to do that. Do I have any other options? I can't seem to turn it on or off. It's not responding to the power button at all.
try putting it into HBOOT/Bootloader when the device is off
( Hold Power button and down on volume rocker)
-if that works maybe try a recovery?
Problem was turning the device off without corrupting the SD card. After consulting Martin on IRC it turned out to be impossible so I just took the battery out and screwed up the SD cards.
I think the card is a lemon and the cause of these freezes in the first place. I got it off eBay really cheaply I suspected there was a fair chance it wouldn't be premium quality. Let this be a warning to you all trying to get cheap on your SD card purchases.

haha ok, im glad you got it fixed though, i will always try to buy the sandisk micro SD cards in future
Sorry if this has been addressed, but I haven't seen it anywhere.
Got my Focus just under two weeks ago. Added an SD card, no issues before nor after the SD "fix."Starting yesterday my phone started randomly turning off. NOT resetting, as no data was lost, and it turned right back on.
I'm fairly certain its due to minor jarring, and is therefore a battery connection issue. I'm going to go ask for a new battery at the ATT store and try that before asking for a whole new phone.
I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this. Also, if I got a new Focus, can it reformat my SD card, or is it locked to the specific phone?
Thanks guys.
its your sd card.... even though there is no data lost the turning off and back on is it rebooting ... you need to try a card thats been working.... there is a nice list on here or just buy a samsung one..
you can try a format and try the card again but theres a good chance it will happen again...btw what sd is it?
16 GB Sandisk, class 4. It doesn't turn back on on its own, though. I manually turn it back on. Kind of like if I did a battery pull, it would shut off and I'd have to manually turn it on.
Pull the card, leave it out and format... If the condition continues then its the phone, but I'm betting it will work fine.. Here's to hoping. It is strange but certain sd cards give this phone fits... the format is power off. Press n hold vol down, camera, and then power. Keep all pressed till you see the format screen pop up... Hope this helps...
Well, I put in one of those Samsung cards in from that ebay seller, and next day got a similar turn off, so I'm gonna say it's the phone.
If I switch it out in-store, can another Focus reformat the card, or am I gonna have to borrow one of their Nokias?
Your Focus randomly shuts down or reboot?
Captivate had random shutdown issue, wish it's not on Focus.

Shuts down, have to manually turn on. No loss of data.
And I've reproduced it by setting it down on a hard surface multiple times, so bumps seem to be jarring something.
when you get your new phone just plug in the sd card and do the format.... it will set the card up in that phone.

LOL I found this out after I was told ATT doesn't even sell Symbian phones. Good to know.
So did exchanging the phone solve your problem? I have 16gb SD card (sandisk class 2) it was working fine for the first two month, but last month the phone start to randomly reset about once a day. I took out the sdcard and battery reseated them both (not resetting data) and it seems to work fine for about 2 weeks (may be one random reboot once) but last few days the phone would reboot everytime I set it down on hard surface. It doesn't do it all the time but do it enough to be annoying.
I really don't want to exchange the phone unless I have to.

If by reboot you mean it just turns off, then that's what I was experiencing. I changed SD cards and it came back the next day.
I just switched phones today and haven't seen it yet, but I'll get back to ya in a week. Switching phones wasnt too big of a hassle for me, though, so you might just try that now while you're in your 30 days.
If it keeps happening, I don't know what phone I'll switch to. Shouldn't have jumped on that Zune 12 mo pass just yet.
I been having this issue lately where my phone loves to "restart" on it's own. I thought maybe it was the rom I was running, but I was dead wrong. I flashed every rom/port and it seems like I keep getting random restarts, so if someone knows how to fix this, I am all eyes. Thanks in advance
Sent from my MyTouch 4g that loves to restart on it's own free will
have you tried a hard reboot?
Try removing battery, removing sin card, and memory card (if any) and restart

I just did it, right after you posted that comment. Will update later today on how it goes. Thanks alot for the help you have provided for me and maybe others that has encountered random reboots.
Fold a small piece of paper and put it under the battery cover. Your battery could be loose.

I checked that. It's not loose or anything, it may be the roms I try to run on here. Cause right now I am currently on SkyTouch rom and I haven't had one random restart from it.
Hey guys, I'm an common forum visitor (usually not logged in) and this is my first post. I will explain the whole story, as it may contain important evidence for the resolution of my problem. Sorry for the big text and thanks for your help in advance
I'm in a pickle here,
I really love the WP7 OS, much more than Android and I want to keep it. But the thing is, my phone wont charge with my SD card on (I just found that). After many months with no problems with WP7, this problem starts being recurring on multiple ROMs.
The thing is, when the SD card is on the slot, the phone keeps booting and rebooting for charge when the batteries are low (But if they have some battery, it simply won't charge). After awhile, appears the "storage is dead screen" (the SD is the phone "internal" storage. I get that). So I remove the SD card and guess what... It starts charging! Awesome, problem solved.
... Not yet. I put the card back and it can't get past the ROM creator/cooker screen (which is before the WP logo appears). I figure: the SD Data is probably damaged and preventing the phone to even display the error message (but that doesn't make sense, since it should go back to the error message anyway. It did without the SD card being plugged in).
I need a safe way to charge the phone without breaking the Data every single time. Most likely, I need to remove the SD card before.
Any ideas you guys can share? Thanks!
PS: Love the forum. Such a life saver from that old, dead WM6.5. Much <3 for the Teams Involved
EDIT: High Capacity Battery is not charging at all. In neither way. Only the normal one. Is it a battery problem?
phone terminals
Have u tried straightening the terminals for better contact with the battery? They may look fine to u, but u can just use ur finger nails or a screw driver to push them into position. The terminals DO cause that kind of problem.
Hi guys,
A few days ago my s5 had an 'episode'. My micro SD suddenly stopped working (now phone or computer doesnt recognise it) and from that point now a few strange things happen:
My battery seems to drain really fast
When the phone is locked, if i push the home / power button it now takes 4 to 5 seconds for the screen to wake up so I can enter my pin
Almost every time I unlock my phone now it tells me to check the battery cover is correctly sealed
At one point yesterday it got really hot in my pocket (so I took the battery out to chill it out).
So I am wondering if my s5 fried the SD card possibly? a different SD is recognised fine by the phone. And any ideas how I can fix the strange behavours? I have tried taking the battery out for a while etc. Cheers for any advice in advance.
The warning to close the charging cover is a normal annoyance
Hot battery depends what you're doing with it, and if it's closed up in your pocket while it's busy
Long time unlocking is not unheard of either
All your faults seem normal, sounds like the MicroSD card just committed suicide
fair point but all of these things started happening at exactly the same time just as the SD card fried...

I have the exact same problem
so it seems taking out the buggered SD card sorted the other problems - I think it was constantly trying to access it and draining resources. Seems sorted now - so just a new SD card is needed
