I don't think Tmo will be sending you a replacement since you got it through CL. I'd suggest calling up HTC directly and seeing if they can help you.
I've come to believe there is no hinge issue. Yes, I've been brainwashed.
I doubt tmo is going to replace a phone bought from cl, this is a risk you take when buying this way. The hinges on mine do the "auto open/close" thing too but in the month I have had it it has not been an issue. The hinge itself is strong just not spring loaded.... non issue.
Spotty service you can do 1 kof 2 things, 1 temp root and do the manup themed rom I found it more stable or 2 do the ota update I did both and the update is better for service....

I am on my second G2.. and I can confirm that this second has a much crappier hinge. The hinge on my first phone would spring open or closed. This new one doesnt snap into place like the first one. I will be sending mine back. Not sure if I am going to get a new G2 or a mytouch.
I bought a motorola cliq on craigslist 2 months after the person had purchased it. But it still had the 1 year manufacture warranty from first purchase date. I dont know if the border will be an issue but the purchase will not be an issue. They have the record from the IMEI number.

You should try getting the mannual update link on this forum. I did it yesterday, and since, I have not had any reboots, nor freezing that require battery pull. Signal strength is much better, being that I barely get signal at my desk, and now I can actually hold a conversation. Also, battery life seems to have improved a bit...where I was getting maybe 40% by Noon, it's 4:00 PM as I am writting this and I have 32% left.....

I have an issues...I have never been able to be hypnotized.....much less brain washed....my hinges still suck!!!!!
I just purchased the thin plastic rubberized cover for the phone (I think you have the same one) bcs the OEM T-Mo gel is very heavy...I think that had something to do with making the hinge problem worst.
It's really not a non-issue, except for the fact that I paid $250 for this phone plus hipping and taxes and I really find the hinge to be a POS...and not really acceptable at those prices. Now with that said, It really annoys me when I walk I can actually hear the phone "slapping" as I take strides....that really gets under my skin!!!
T-Mo will not stand by the product as defective, that pisses me off even more...they know that they sold a defective product and now are calling it a design feature.... I wonder what would have happened if Toyota said that about their break issue.....lol!

Couldn't have said this better, kudos to you, man the hinges are defective! Seriously I can't believe the people who agree that its a feature lmao, yea let toyota said the break issue was a feature too, only imagine... lmaoooo. But its just a phone who cares right let people pay their money and that's it, yea iight I want this hinge issue solve by htc or tmo I'm sending it back htc so they can put stronger magnets on the device. In case y'all didn't know someone found weak magnets on the G2 with a paper clip I think on the sides of the keyboard I read this on a tmo forum like three people found the magnets. Well I guess ima send their piece if ****ty hinge G2 for a fix and they better put stronger magnets
Tmo has been a total disappointment on this device for me. Can't believe they're trying to be like apple with the iphone 4 as they refused to admit it was a design defect/flaw and the phone just wasn't been hold the right way lmaoooo. Things like mass production of defective device can happen guys just because the majority of G2 got this problem doesn't mean it was ment to be like this. Look at toyota, do you think the break issue was a feature?
That's cool that's a lovely feature a car that has a not always functional break, yea and they targeted for crazy people if a normal people buys it and they don't like our new feature they can return their car. Its the spontanious break feature, your breaks may not work at times and at times it will, enjoy our new feature it is targeted for people who love to die

No kidding.....I sent back my first phone for two reasons....the hinge was absolutely loose, and multiple freezes a day, with at least one batt pull a day!
They sent me a second phone....I really tried to deal with the issues, but I called (Day 14th), they told me that my Buyers remorse period had already ended, that there was nothing they could do about the hinges nor the reboots!!!! I received my phone on Oct 15th, on the 29th I called to have it replaced. They told me that the 14th day had been the 28th, bcs they count the delivery date as the first day....I pretty much lost it at that point and told the gal that she was full $#it!!!! I told her that it was like saying that the day a bay is born, they are already a day old!!!!
I am certainly beginning to doubt TMO claim for #1 on customer service....I seem to the same lame service I had with ATT when I left them 10Yrs ago!...i guess not sucking like ATT is the new definition of great cust serv....shish!!!

Wow how does the delivery day count as day one SMFH you still was on your remorse period is just been 14 days since you got the device they are so full of it, if this was to happen to me all I would've lost it even worst than you did
All I can say is
1.they really messed up badly on this device: hinges are crap, nothing they can do about that for those who already have the crappy hinges but exchange for crappier or better hinges
2. They're trying to cover their **** up by brainwashing people to believe the hinges are built that way, I feel bad for those who were brainwashed.
3. Tmo badly fail to explain the storage to people before they realese the phone. It does have a 4gb internal mem but the thing is due to froyo the memory has a limit for downloading apps, mytouch 4g and galaxy s phones are also showing the 1.15 gb available mem even tho they obviously come with much more. Damn was that really hard to explain before the device launch! But they better learn from this.
4. This phone probably has the most exchanges and returns in tmo history. And the saddest part is that is only due to the hinges, for the most part and for the storage, some people were very angry at this I could tell from visiting numerous forums regarding the storage. I really didn't care much for storage tho I knew there mustve been an explanation for this and there was, some one took the device apart and found the mem to be a 4gb.
5. Could've they avoid this? Yes maybe if they explain storage, and made sure device was better built on hinges they wouldn't be experiencing these issues. Some even found magnets on the device on the sides of the keyboard, this means that they used the wrong magnets.

I think this hinge issue is crazy, I mean yea what a great feature so it was basically made so it opens easily LOL I makes me imagine tmo making cars and me buying a car that has loose doors that would open on a turn lmao, and the excuse for that would be: this is a brand new feature that will allow you to open your car door easier than ever, no need to sturggle opening your door just barely pull the handle and it'll smoothly open lmfao, I only laugh at the people who believe tmo on this. That's a lovely feature

thanks for the responses guys, the seller agreed to refund me the money. I'm wondering if I should get another g2 after seeing all these complains
To everybody including PandaBanana I agree there's a hinge issue. Except in my case probably not that serious. I don't hold my phone upside down and when I do to show people the problem it barely hangs down as much as other people. Its unfortunate but I would rather this then the phone be even more bulkier if they would've went with a regular slider mechanism. Especially since I was an original iphone user I can say I'm mostly satisfied. Battery and the android keyboard is my only concerns. I like the hacker friendliness with the OS and I must say besides the hinges which is not bad on mine I'm really satisfied with the build quality. If anybody doesn't believe me about the hinge problems I can take pics and show y'all.

You mean you hinges are tight and they don't pop open when they're held upsidedown?....
Lucky Guy...........
Regarding the spring thing. Is there really some visible spring in sight?
Total Fail.
While the G2 is snappy and fun to play with, it's a piece of crap. The amount of problems that people are having with hardware and software is just ridiculous.
If you're thinking of upgrading to the G2, don't so it!
I went back to my Nexus One and couldn't be happier.
Screw you TMobile and your weak-hinged, missing-memory, daily-crashing, dead-pixel piece of crap phone!
I think it's HTC, it's not all T-Mobile's fault. After all this phone is marketed as the desire z in europe. What a shame this phone is in my opinion. I will be selling it soon. Such a great build quality: brushed aluminum with silicon coated plastic, but with loose, wobbly hinges. I find using the hardware keyboard too uncomfortable for daily use because of the hinges. I'll continue my wait for the perfect android phone. Or perhaps if the iphone does come to t mobile, I'll settle for it.

so i got the dreaded dust under my lcd screen even with a screen protector on. i went to a sprint service center and they tried to clean it out and couldn't get all of it. they said they have seen many hero's with this issue and of course it is well known on the net. sprint says htc is working on a fix? so my question to them was, when they fix it will they repair our hero's or will we get another phone? sprint claims they will notify owners when the fix is ready. i have no idea what this means but they are very aware of it! bottom line is it is a manufacturer and sprint defect and im getting a new hero shipped out to me in a few days. where or not this one gets dust is yet to be seen but im very unhappy right now!
ive gone through 4 defective brand new sprint phones in 6 months. i love the hero but if my replacement gets dust im selling it for another device.
any of you guys have this issue yet?
I have it in my Hero as well. I bought at release, and the problem really escalated in late December. Now there is a huge explosion shaped area of dust coming from the bottom left corner of my screen. I'd show a picture if i had a camera other than my phone.
Issue is widly known, but I thought they already had a fix for this. Wasn't hardware version 2 a fixed model? Seems like they put something in between the phone body and screen. Maybe I am thinking about my old Storm, but I thought this had been fixed in all new models.

call sprint for a replacement, they will do it for you. from what the tech told me, htc is working on another hero device that will be the replacement for our defective ones. they think we will all get a free upgrade as long as we can proove we have a dusty phone.

No company is ever going to give free upgrades when the complaint about the phone is a little dust under the screen ...............................................................................
Think about what you just said..
Its stupid to put any phone in your pocket,(ie Blackberry trackballs etc) and that issue is a direct result of a condition you have personally put your phone in..

It's a defect??
So an issue that 1/1,000,000 Hero's has is a defect? Just because something is "widespread on the internet" doesn't mean its a defect. Just because 25 people have an issue doesn't mean its a defect. That 25 people is only a small small fraction of the entire market..
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it important. If you took the same care of your cell phone, that you do with everything else you own, you wouldn't be in this predicament..
Get rid of your sense of entitlement, and think before you talk...

At the risk of feeding the troll I just want to say the following:
I just returned a phone I'd had for 2 weeks due to the dust under the LCD screen issue. I can assure you quite thoroughly that I took care of the phone. The people at Sprint knew about the issue and replaced it with no problems.
1. I don't now, nor have I ever carried my phone in my pocket.
2. The phone has a case, with belt clip. I carry it there.
3. I had a screen protector on the phone.
4. The dust appeared after the 3rd day.
5. I lint-free cloth cleaned my screen each evening.
Just because you were one of the lucky ones who got the phone without issues doesn't automatically mean that you're the only one who knows how to take care of your phone. People who spend 500-600.00 on a phone generally take REALLY good care of them.

your a troll, so yeah the hundreds of people with dust treat their phones like ****?..... please!
not to sound like a troll, but here's my story
i take EXCELLENT care of my phone, like its almost sad how much i love this phone and don't want anything to happen to it. everytime after i use it i wipe it off, wash my hands before handling, i put it in a ziploc bag anytime there may be moisture around.... the list goes on
my girlfriend on the other hand... she has a with google hero and her phone rolls around in her purse all day, one night she lost it and i found it under a couch cushion, she's dropped it (she has one of those bodyglove cases on it) and it came apart into about 6 pieces, three times that i know of, dropped it in spaghetti, the list goes on and on and on....
she doesn't take care of it at all,
but yet i have dust under my screen and she doesn't.
it's not about who takes better care of the device, it's about who gets what device to begin with. imo.
i had dust under my screen and my buttons (end call/ power and call) had the metal flaking off really bad
i brought it to the sprint store that had the service center and they gave me basically brand new housing for free. they replaced the whole front so my trackball is clear and it looks brand new
all for free!

i wouldn't try it, id go to a repair center.
so after running around 7 stores and making 18 different calls to t-mobile, htc and radio shack, they all came with the same conclusion: htc told them that the loosey goosey hinge is not a defect, it is the way its supposed to be so that the phone can be opened with ease. all i could do was laugh because i knew t-mobile was full of ****. as pissed off as i was, i remembered "you get what u pay for". since i only have two days left on my buyers remorse from radio shack (149.99 price tag), i'm going to return the phone tomorrow, cancel the plan and go over to costco and buy it for $50 dollars. no need dealing with this for $150 when i can b dealing with it for $100 less i gotta say i still love this damn phone though
It's not an issue for me since I don't hold my phone upside down in a weird way.
I did the same, I visit 2 tmo stores, and they test 3 new boxes, and is not a problem, the phone came like this...
Be careful doing that. There was a post earlier about canceling and not being able to go to costco for the cheaper phone.

Stupid corporates. I hope they dont.
I had my first G2 on pre order and received it from the very first batch, sent it back due to shutting itself off for no reason. They sent me a 2nd phone with a hinge so loose it was ridiculous In my opinion. I called and sent that one back as well. I talked with someone about this issue and said that if I could not receive a G2 with a tite hinge then cancel my order. He told me he was sending me a phone from the latest batch from htc that they had addressed this loose hinge problem and my new G2 should be perfect. Time will tell. I refuse to buy a phone with a loose hinge that will only get worse not better. Owning the Nexus One with no slide out keyboard I do not miss the G2. IMO there is no device that feels like the Nexus One in your hand. I should receive my new G2 in a few days and will let the forum know how this hinge problem worked out. I probably would have not returned my 2nd phone but my 1st phone the hinge was very tite and I know how it should feel. Not being fussy but just want a good phone.

how tight was the hinge on your first g2? were you able to turn the phone face down and have the top part of the screen not fall?
@vinnyjr: Could you please let us know how it works out when you get your new phone? I'm thinking of calling and asking for a G2 from the "new batch" if it really fixes the hinge issue.
honestly guys t-mobile just says sh*t to shut us up. like i said after numerous calls to different reps, they said its the way it should be. ell they even tell t-mobile stores and radio shack employers the same silly sh*t. they are honestly trying to push this issue aside to avoid numerous recalls.
btw i returned my g2 back to radio shack and just got a g2 for 50 bucks at costco so now my 14 day period just started over and im gonna go in the store every other day till i get a g2 with stiff hinge gotta love freedom of choice
I got my G2 September 30th. I'd say that it is "first batch" if there is such a thing. My hinge is tight. I have to really shake my phone hard while holding it upside down to get the phone to swing open.
My buddy just got his G2 2 days ago from a T-Mobile corporate store, and his hinge is very loose.
So from my very limited experience, I doesn't seem like there are "new batch" phones with better hinges.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I just received my fourth G2 from T Mobile yesterday. The first three all had very loose hinges and wildly fluctuating signals or no signals. The trio also had screen freezes, random reboots and turned them selves off from time to time, as well as dropped calls.. The one I received yesterday has very tight hinges and seems to stay connected to H or E much better. So far the only issue has been a dropped call. This last phone just seems smoother and faster and the keyboard does not come out in my pocket as the first three did, I dont know if this is a new batch or not but it definitely operates and has a much better feel and signal retention.
Could someone post a video of their strong hinge? Just to put things in perspective?
Thanks,
Trust me on this one. If you cancel your account then go to Costco; not a problem. T-Mobile may blow smoke because of system issues but in the end they're hemorraging customers so they can credit your account for up to 1/2 the price difference to keep the number of compelled accounts down. Don't believe ' Dateline', you don't wanna talk to a supervisor [you'll first go to a supervisor assistant called a "Senior Rep"...they're hourly also]. Ask for a manager!!! They're the real supervisor's SUPERVISOR! Those lazy a$$holes are not allowed to turn down your call and they hate taking calls so they are overly accommodating. Just be sure not to call on a weekend. There's only one on duty.

are you referring to their infamous "pro-rated charges"?
Find the Best shop
There are many shops selling duplicate products same as original you cant find the difference because duplicate seems like a xerox copy of original those products are mingled with original and sold over the shops. I think you may experienced such a product. I too had a T-Mobile few weeks back from onlinemobileworld.blogspot.com they are good and they got good collection as it is sold through online the price seem to be better. My suggestion is find the best online shops and compare the best price. I suggest for online shopping because online shopping is cheaper compare to retailer
I bought G2 2 hours ago. Hinge is really loose. I asked the rep that I wanna have the latest batch. I dunno he really did it.
Is there any way to know production date from serial #?
it's totally unfair some got not loose one for the same price.

so after running around 7 stores and making 18 different calls to t-mobile, htc and radio shack, they all came with the same conclusion: htc told them that the loosey goosey hinge is not a defect, it is the way its supposed to be so that the phone can be opened with ease. all i could do was laugh because i knew t-mobile was full of ****. as pissed off as i was, i remembered "you get what u pay for". since i only have two days left on my buyers remorse from radio shack (149.99 price tag), i'm going to return the phone tomorrow, cancel the plan and go over to costco and buy it for $50 dollars. no need dealing with this for $150 when i can b dealing with it for $100 less i gotta say i still love this damn phone though

How many scissor hinge phones did you say you have owned before the G2? Seems you can't get the point.

I asked the tmobile rep to tell me specifically about the loose hinge issue on tmobile g2 and this is what he said.
"There were some reported issues when the phone was first released. The hinges were simply loose, allowing for too much movement of the keyboard. This lead to those that push harder on the buttons, to warp the hinges further (which would be those that reported a 'dangling keyboard') Once the issue was noted, all phones that were sent out after that were corrected. Those that did have the loose hinges received an exchange with the corrected hinges."
Looks like Tmobile/HTC corrected the problem!
i don't think so, I just received one last week and the hinge is fairly loose.
Yeah, that's BS
I hope this is true... I want another one. It's not "annoying" it's more scary that I'll break the screen off the keyboard thing thing. Yeah, thing-thing.
I don't know about that... Got my second G2 on 12/20 and the hinge is still loose.
Are you guys expecting the snappy feel of the G1? That's not gonna happen.
vision
I received one on the 22nd... and the hinge doesn't hold it solid once it is in place. I plan on returning it and trying to get one that isn't bad.
I'm content with my "loose" hinge on my Desire Z. It opens due to gravity, as one should expect with this design. When facing a normal direction and not held by just the bottom half the hinge is very nice and easy to open and close.
Yeah... I call BS. I bought 2 G2s together...and we literally went thru 7 phones b4 I said well I guess that's just the way they are...all loose.

My G2 was very snappy when I first got it. When I pushed slightly it would fly open or closed and it felt very strong. Upon peering into the loose hinge issue, I opened my phone slightly and seems that weakened the hinge instantly.
Uhh... when I talked to a T-Mo Rep online about that the first week I got my G2 and they passed it off as a feature.... to have a loose hinge as a feature..... kinda want to go see if they would be willing to give me a replacement now that they've accepted it as a problem.
from Europe
Folks, I have got a DZ for xmas. It is a Czech, (east europe model, whatever that means) and it is loose but OK. I wouldn't tear it down. If new springs come out, or a way to make it tighter, I might take it back, but I think this will do.

I've had my G2 for just over a week now, and at first the hinge was pretty tight but after regular use it has weakened a bit. Does this bother me? It does a little bit, but I don't think it's enough to make me regret this purchase or have ill-thoughts toward the G2. I love this phone. I came from a total of 5 exchanged MT4Gs to the G2, and that made me realize I should have purchased the G2 instead of the MT4G (first 4 MT4Gs had creaking buttons, last one had washed out display).
If TMO really said the following...
"Once the issue was noted, all phones that were sent out after that were corrected. Those that did have the loose hinges received an exchange with the corrected hinges."

What does that mean for us? How will this be addressed, processed and/or resolved for customers experiencing this? I'm guessing it would require us to contact TMO support in hopes of them either replacing the phone or having it repaired, but since this seems to be a design flaw and not necessarily a defect I'm curious to know what TMO/HTC are doing to be proactive in this. Any ideas?
I have phantom headphones in CM7.
This just came out of nowhere. Everything worked fine an hour ago.
All of a sudden the headphones icon is blinking. The phone thinks it has headphones connected, so it's blocking sound to the phone speaker. But there are no actual headphones involved.
Restarting didn't stop it.
I didn't make any system changes today. There's nothing physically in the headphone plug.
But my phone is suddenly useless as a phone because it thinks headphones are being plugged in and out every second.
Anyone got any idea what the hell is going on?
I reflashed CM and the problem is still there.
I reflashed stock 2.2.1 and the problem is still there. So it's definitely an out of nowhere hardware issue.
And this phone is a warranty replacement that I just got 3 days ago. Awesome.
Does HTC have ANYONE actually doing quality control?
And now T Mobile is sending me yet another refurbished phone. So I get to spend another night reloading all my stuff and tweaking settings. [sarcasm] Awesome. [/sarcasm]

that happened to me too and i just cleaned out the jack and rebootet and bingo. dust and gunk get in there and give you hell. and ive heard bad things about refurbished phones but ive never been able to tell the difference between that and a new one with ones ive had. it probly depends on the place it was its refurbed at.

Can you give me more details on how you cleaned it out?
I've picked at it with a tiny screw driver, put a headphone plug in it and spun it around, and hit it with compressed air.
Nothing seems to make the problem go away. Did you have some kind of awesome technique?
And T-Mobile is losing major credibility with me over this issue. I just bought the phone at the end of August. This is already my 2nd bad one. The T-Mobile guy on the phone told me there would be processing charges for BOTH phones on my next bill after the guy in the store who processed the exchanges specifically told me there would be no cost. And now I'm apparently waiting until November 16th to get the 2nd replacement after the guy in the store told me I'd get it today (next business day) and that's after it took this broken one a week to get to me after the guy in the store told me I'd have it the next day the first time.
When I got to the supervisor at T-Mobile she made it 10 times worse by trying to up sell me the warranty and exchange program saying that's the only way she could have this fixed by tomorrow.
I'm like "It was supposed to get fixed by today for no fees or charges according to the guy who processed the exchange. Now you're telling me you've added fees after the point of sale? And now you want me to agree to another $15 a month so you can get this fixed tomorrow? It was supposed to get fixed TODAY for no fees! I just bought the phone 2 months ago and I'm already waiting on a 3rd model due to the extreme lack of quality control on these POS's. Now you want me to spend more money? Are you high?"
i know!! they tried that crap with me and i said im not waiting a week for your f*** up and walked out. then called htc and they took care of everything because im still under warranty. dont deal with money hungry salesman holding phones hostage for $15 a month.
but i used the same technique as you except i put rubbing alchohol on the swab to clean the contact better. *dont use a jack ass amount of alcohol though*

Well that didn't work. I'm sure there's a short in the electrical system. The battery drains like water through a colander ever since this problem showed up.
But I think the short is internal and not right at the plug. (Which is odd because if I plug in a headset it works fine. I just don't want to carry a headset with me wherever I go.)
The best solution I've found so far is just to turn off the "Display headset icon" in the cyanogen settings so I don't have to look at the damned think blinking, then just use my phone as a text only device until the new one comes on Thursday.
yeah but it sucks that your battery is draining still..but im sure you can tough it out till tomorow

It's torture!
Absolute torture! The CIA should realize they don't have to water board terrorists because of this. They can just take away half the functionality of their smart phones!
I mean it! I'll talk! I'll say whatever they want me to say! Just make my phone work!
Or...send me another borked one. I'm good with that too because I'll trade it as an even exchange for a 4G Slide, give it to my wife, and upgrade her account with a Sensation that I will take.
I think the thing that annoys me is that the one that just broke has the good emmc chip and the good screen. But this random stupid problem. Now I have to play the "Do you get what you paid for or do you get garbage parts" lottery again. And even if I get the good parts I can never rely on the device again because it's reputation is killed with me.
Update: And i came in 50/50 in the new phone lottery. Bad screen but good chip.

Well when you put it in perspective like that I just sound whiny.
Have purchased 8 HTC devices over the last 10 years and most recently the One M9. I was prepared to give HTC a chance when the press ridiculed them for lack of progress versus competitors.
My biggest problem was HTC's awful customer service/warranty department who when made aware of the sapphire glass on my rear camera failing would NOT repair it under warranty and told me that I would have to pay for it myself. The device has a Tempered Glass Protector on Screen and Camera along with a Spigen Case on top. My loyalty means nothing to HTC and I will NEVER spend my hard earned money on a HTC product again. I would NEVER recommend HTC to ANYONE and I can see now why the Company has gone into decline. Failure to look after Loyal customers will result in their demise when Samsung LG and Apple are vastly superior in this department.
My Galaxy S5 developed a problem with the rocker buttons and was fixed free of charge a full year into ownership. My iPhone 4s developed an issue with Battery and they simply replaced the device. HTC didn't want to know.
I feel that if this is how they treat their loyal customers then they simply deserve to fail. My hard earned money will be spent elsewhere from now on.
Have you guys had issues with HTC??? If you haven't yet considered a HTC device but might consider one then please do be careful.

I've had six M9's trying to get a phone without a bent frame around the screen! On the last one I thought that rather than return it to Amazon again, I would speak to HTC and see if they would fix the frame for me so I could keep it, as I really love the phone.
The customer service rep basically told me that I would have to pay for them to look at it and for any repairs made and that it was my fault for purchasing a cheap phone from Amazon and not from them directly.
So my reply was, do HTC make two versions of this phone, one cheap that has build quality problems and the other expensive which is perfect? She was confused and said all are the same?! Basically I told her that HTC have serious issues with this handset and she denied it. I highlighted the company is in trouble and that good service is needed to keep loyal customers from leaving, she didn't think HTC had any worries about it's business?! On complete denial about everything and no help at all.
So, long and short of it, I returned the handset to Amazon and will never go near HTC again. I used my local guy in China to source me a Nubia Z9 Mini so i can give the new IMX234 a go, as the camera looks bloody amazing, unlike the M9!

Its no surprise they are a failing company when that is how they treat loyal customers who have a genuine quality control issue. The support from HTC is disgusting. I'm glad to hear they have lost another customer due to their awful support.
I have had zero problems with their customer service or warranty. In fact they corrected a problem sprint created. Everyone has a different experience. Samsung and apple both treated me like ****. Hell apple charged me for a phone I didn't even have lol had to go to court.

Well there are also customers that drop their phone and it breaks glass, scratches, dents, dings, starts malfunctioning, etc....and then they call HTC and say it is defective and not their fault. Unfortunately HTC has no way of knowing who is lying and who is not. If they exchanged phones for every customer that claimed defect, they would be exchanging phones that people broke left and right. Certain things shouldn't come loose or start to rattle and if that starts happening they will know it is a defect once they get enough cases. Unfortunately with glass, it is the easiest and most common thing broken on a phone, so doing warranty replacements for broken glass is rare. A screen protector and case do nothing for protecting the camera glass. Most people this has happened to are blaming excessive heat. So I'm assuming you had your phone on the charger over night and it may have overheated from the charger. It would be nice if HTC would at least make an effort to investigate and see if this is possibly happening.
I've only had one experience with HTC customer service, but they replaced the pink tint camera on my M7 for just the labor costs even though it was out of warranty and two years old. YMMV, I guess.
I had this problem as well. It's like talking to a wall with these guys. If you say we will replace your phone no matter what the problem,no questions asked, than you best live up it. When I called, I was bombarded with questions and told I had to pay for them to fix it.
I'll just chime in with my own experience...
I had an HTC One Mini that developed hairline cracks in the plastic (this was a VERY common issue with this phone) and talking with HTC support was, like BR7fan said, talking to a freaking wall. They were totally unaware of the issue even though it was widely reported on XDA. They said they MIGHT be able to fix it for free, but they couldn't tell until they saw it (understandable). But there was a chance I'd have to pay for repair even though there was obviously damage related to neglect. Also, I work remotely, so I have to have my phone for work and the only option was for me to send it in and wait for repair. Anyway, I was frustrated and ended up taking the phone to an AT&T service center and sweet talking them to swap it out for me.
My second experience with HTC was more recent and much better. I had my M8 in my shirt pocket and bent over to pick something up and it slipped out onto the concrete. The glass cracked and there was damage to the metal body. This time I used chat support and the rep couldn't have been better to deal with. I told him what happened, and he checked and said I was eligible for a replacement under the screen replacement policy. I told him that the metal had also been damaged, and he asked me to describe the damage, and while he wouldn't say with 100% certainty that there wouldn't be a problem swapping it out (understandable since I could have been under-reporting the level of damage) he said kind of off the record that if the damage was as I described, there wouldn't be a problem. Anyway, they put a $599 hold on my card + $29 for overnight shipping and the next day I had my new M8 and sent my damaged one back. About a week later the hold was removed from my card.
Anyway, I've had awful CS experiences at a lot of places and then later had great ones. I think it's really hit or miss with these large corporations.
Finally, I think HTC is attempting to shift their warranty policy to be more liberal in replacing/repairing physically damaged phones and honoring warranty for unlocked ones. It seems like this shift isn't going as smoothly as some of us consumers would like.

My gd had an iPhone 4 though att and paid for apple care and the whatnot. Well she lost the sim card for it (don't ask) and we had to go to att to replace it. The clerk dropped and broke her phone. Att said they would give her a new one without issue as it was 100% fault of the store clerk. Apple sent an email claiming she was commuting fraud and the video evidence that was sent was altered. Att fought with them and eventually won. Well they gave her the phone and everything was fine. Then apple sent an email and a bill through the mail for damages for an iPhone 5s that she didn't have and claimed they could prosecute her for fraud... Yea... In the end apple got her a 5s and she got to keep the 4 as way of a settlement. She could have really ****ed apple up.

I think it goes to show how customer service can be inconsistent, which in itself is a problem.
My first 6plus had a sunken home button, so wouldn't 'click' as such and the edge of the hole in the glass where the button fits was sharp and uncomfortable to use. Walked in to my local Apple store and walked out with a brand new handset within 5mins, no questions asked.
Got my other half a iPhone 6 and had to return it as she won't move on from her G2, got a refund instantly, again no questions.
Anyone got any ideas how to get my wife away from the G2? Everything else I get for her to try she doesn't like because the bloody icons and app settings are different, between platforms and handsets!

Yeah, too often it seem to depend on what CSR you get, and how their supervisor has been behaving that week.
I've twice had to get the trackpad on my MBP replaced, both times were my fault (too much eating and drinking at my desk :silly, and both times Apple fixed it no questions asked under the protection plan.

I can tell you that Apple is undoubtedly the BEST in the service and support department! I just don't understand how these other companies can't see how simple it is and just do it the way Apple does! I mean, it makes me not want to buy another Samsung, LG or HTC product, because ALL of them I have had issues with at one point or another. The one time I had an issue with Apple I was so pissed off that I called in to customer care and spoke to a manager about the problem that I had at a store nearby. She saw that I had purchased about 10 Apple devices in the last 8 years or so, and gave me $150 credit for Apple accessories and also next day aired me a brand new 6 Plus because the Apple store would not replace it after I was having problems and I just got done spending almost a grand for the damn thing! These phones are expensive, and if these companies can't take care of us then go somewhere else because someone is willing to take care of you the right way! Just like this G4 I have that has marks on the display due to a screen coating issue at the plant. Because it;s an International model they won't touch it! WOW I understand that companies don't honor some warranties when you buy an imported phone, but when it's 3 days old and the phone just came out and it has defects that are 100% LG's fault, they should have just told me to send the damn thing in and they would fix it, now they lost my business! That just cost them quite a bit considering I buy EVERY damn flagship that comes out! (almost) They don't care though.... -END OF RANT-

Ah yeah, my request was like a year after release.
But come on, if it was only a month or 2 after release it could be expected that they (the support) wasn't aware of that. Because at first hearing about it, HTC will most likely just sit by and keep eye on it, see if many experience it (as in a certain % compared to sold devices) and then decide to undertake action or just play ffin stupid.
Support can't be blamed with that, they just followed order

I wasn't blaming the person. There was already a thread on XDA aboout the issue, but I imagine CS reps are discouraged from acknowledging internet speculation. I was frustrated with the system that was going to make me send my phone in for repair rather than them sending me a new one (with a CC hold, obviously) and then me sending the defective one back. I guess it wasn't clear in my post, but I use this phone for work and didn't have a backup.

Haha, you should. It's exactly as you say it is to the company "just speculation", companies always use bull**** like "only vocal minority" to deceive others. So they rather keep it quiet and ignore forums like this on purpose
I owned a beautiful metallic red HTC One m7 untill recently. It was rooted + BL unlocked (not S-off) since day1 and never ran stock rom. I started noticing all the pictures were out of focus and that camera was stuck in macro mode. I took it back to shop for warranty (it was 1y 8 months old) and they sent it back to HTC for repair. Bootloader showed Relock and it was on an old stock rom nandroid that I found from internet
Almost 3 weeks later it was back, with new camera that was excellent again. They updated to latest Lollipop rom even, with BL still in relock. However they messed up upper speaker grill as the metal was no longer flush with body (stuck out enough to be clearly felt by finger when swiping on screen). I took it back to shop, complained and it got sent away again.
Another 2,5 weeks go by and I get the phone back. This time HTC completely changed the body and screen. It was like having a brand new One M7 in beautiful red. It had still same motherboard and still relock BL. However.... they forgot to install/connect the headset speaker.. so I had no sound when calling someone >_>. Back to shop, complain, explain and return the phone..
So a week later I got the phone back. Except I didnt get the phone back. What I got back was a 32GB M9 in gunmetal grey. I am both happy to have a proper upgrade and for free, a little sad to see my lovely M7 taken from me and quite disappointed in the QC of HTC repair centres.
