HD2 will fully support Windows 7. It is a supported phone and meets the requirments for buttons, resolution, memory, and speed.
T-Mobile will be releasing a free upgrade to Windows 7 later this year for the HD2. Not sure about others but I am sure the chefs will present 7.0 - I am personally not that excited about it.

All the information regarding Windows Phone 7 and HD2 is plastered all over the stickies in the 7 forums. You can't miss it if you know how to read.

And here
Doesn't even require a search it's a sticky right on the top..... come on now.

It is actually Windows Phone 7

Just the facts folks:
T-Mobile or HTC ARE NOT RELEASING WP7 FOR THE HD2 OR ANY OTHER CURRENT DEVICE
WP7 IS being developed for the HD2....but we don't know if/or it will fully function
Asking for a WP7 ROM or release is grounds for a moderator warning
Please stop posting threads about this.

For further discussion please post in this thread.

It's real, check this out...

It's awesome. I'm waiting new ROM's with WM7 soon for HD2

Yeah but you have to admit, this looks to be a marketing ploy to push people into buying the new phones rather than buying the HD2 or equivalent and installing 7 at the time of release. Eventually, basing this assumption on track records and past experience, they will probably release a downloadable installer for those who meet the minimum requirements. But saying that the phone won't see an upgraded OS because of two extra buttons sounds absurd to me.
The MS devs probably also need to focus on a certain hardware set initially and after bugs are corrected we will probably see OS upgrades available, like they were hinting at before all the hype and hoopla. I don't see why you would suggest banning someone for curiosity, sure this is probably annoying to read over and over. But people are excited and you can't blame them.

WP7 will never come to legacy devices...it's been said by HTC and Microsoft both that legacy devices will never get official WP7 upgrades. People that keep hopeing for official updates really need to embrace reality.

I hope some dev about WM7.

Sorry I see now where to post further about this topic.

you taking this way to serious its just questions. you are typing like u mad over there. WE ARE NOT ALL COMPUTER GEEKS like you. chill out and help out or just keep it to yourself really.

This question has been asked HUNDREDS of times though, thats the problem. People don't understand patience.

WHAT do you want??
You should have started this thread in the General discussion, not in the Rom development
Nobody as yet knows what 7 will be like, I may be in the minority here but i think 7 looks like LG software!
How do you know you even want it?
It may be the windows vista of mobile software, besides it's not out for months yet I don't understand all the hype about something we really know nothing about.
Time to bring it down a notch i think and concentrate on the awesome device we have now before we get side tracked on something thats just half a number higher than we already have.
for all those having orgasms over something they havent even used or seen give me 5 reasons you want it?

wp7 news,I saw in CHINA POST,BUT WP7 IF REARY CAN'T SUPPORT HD2,WHY BEFORE MANY PEOPLE SAY WP7 CAN WORK IN HD2
SORRY MY ENGLISH IS NOT GOOD,I HOPE YOUR CAN UNDERSTAND
I thought the only reason the HD2 won't run 7 is because it hasn't got a dedicated bing search button? That's not a technical reason, that's a marketing decision.
OMG, yet another WP7-Thread.
I really can't read anything about this anymore. Nobody knows anything about WP7, what it will be like and when it will be ready.
In addition, WP7 seems to become the biggest crap phones have ever seen.
Just wait and see what will happen and stop crying around before anything is settled.

Best HD2 owner's/users/modders.
By now it should be obvious that HTC should have noticed the large amount of users the XDA forum attracts every day.
As we all get excited for each new build out there,
should'nt we just send screenshots to HTC?
Posting and spamming HTC with all the benchmarks we can get!
So that they can't deny us and make a one time effort producing a NAND rom for us!
so we can Mod it further!
Please all of you : SPAM the freaking h*ll out of htc !!!

I wouldn't "spam" them. That would just irritate them and give us a bad look.
I think it's unlikely they would create and official Android for HD2, because afterall, that's not going to make them a huge amount of money. If they did do it, it would be more of a kind gesture to the community.
The best we can do is to write an open letter, explain why we believe an official Android release for the HD2 would be largely beneficial for both HTC and HD2 owners (present and future). Ensure they're aware of the current interest, and perhaps do a poll of who would buy the HD2 if Android was an official option.
It will make them more money, cos there are many people out there that are skeptical about buying an HD2 cos of its retarded OS(u know which one i mean)...tell me, doesnt an Hd2 running two official OS's sound super-tempting to you?
If someone would help us, will be Google department, giving us a free HD2 Android tree, but unofficial means, giving that to Cottula Team.....we are their embassadores....MS don't want we will be that for WM7.....and HTC don't care, just want sell hardware.....and this is not good for their business.

make sure google dont forget about us
I suppose one could petition for it, to show them the interest. But it's still quite unlikely. They would have to (I think) strike some deal with Microsoft to release the WinMo exclusivity with the HD2. I think they would also have a tough time selling Android-based units, purely because of the inconsistency of having a Windows button on the keypad.
I suppose a petition could convince them to get involved in the htc-linux project, ie. help the dev's out with any problems, questions, etc.
The new HTC Desire HD is almost identical (at least spec wise) to the HD2 (exept the Cam)! Why would HTC ever do an HD2 Android ROM when they are going to make an "all new" device with Android? HTC woun't care for us! We already bought the device! They need new customers to buy new devices and not having "old" ones ugraded all the time!

lets do it guys im in, lets make some noise. we buy the phone we should decide what so we want
dream on my friend.... cuz you don't have a clue how job is done in large corporations! they have licesnes, copyrights, huuuge amounts of paper for one phone, so they can't just say: "hey we can grab source, do android and make xda community happy! yay!"
they are about to release desireHD so if you want android buy that one!
only thing you will do by spamming to HTC is to attract a HUUUGE hord of lawyers that will shut down xda, htc-linux and whole thing our devs were working for.
They just look away now because "they can't be responsible for things you do with your phone" as lawsuits are often big amount of money and time spent.
if this kind of behavior continues it WILL get nasty! take conflipper as example, but you probably don't even know who that is! GROW UP CHILDREN, YOU AIN't PLAYIN' WITH LEGO ANYMORE
!! so shut down this thread and rather do a DONATION to devs, mix some air, or help older people on the street, just leave HTC and everyone else out !!!
i think that if HTC showed a little gratitute to their loyal customers it would just make them look better to the community (at least this community). without XDA htc would sell much less.. I bought HTC only because XDA exists.. and I was sure to get more value from my device this way than with any other brand.
HTC is well aware of this.. they know their business believe me...
maybe they're already helping developers undercover..hehehe.. who knows...
in this forum we all know that our next device will be android-powered anyway...
I love winmo.. i always had... but android is more advanced.. works good.. and has all the google goodies we all love...
HTC better take notice

Good news, here is another video from my country! HD2 runing the WP7!!!

Sorry guys, we still dont know who has the rom, but i guess, she may be a businessman. the reason why she dont want to release the rom is that she just want to raise the prices of HD2. i hate this practice. I have inquired the mobile char, its belong to the Shenzhen City.
You may have already seen the video, but somebody may need it:

no idea why anyone would want to watch another video of someone else's phone.
The hype over wp7 on hd2 has got totally out of hand. It's not even particularly good on a wp7 phone.
Bored of wobbly videos. They should release it so people here can try it or shut up!

Yeah I'll try it on hd2 when released.. but I already know I'll use 6.5.3 as my daily driver for a good while to come. WP7 is everything we here should hate given its so locked down - it really isn't worth this fuss!

I think one of the reasons people are hungry for news of running Windows Phone 7 on the HTC HD2 is that it is part of the inherent spirit of the original purpose of organizing XDA-Developers in the first place. XDA of course was a brand name used by 02 on the first phones they sold that were manufactured by a relatively young Taiwanese company that had changed its name of Hi Tech Computers to HTC. The original XDA-DEvelopers guys were mostly engineers and were determined to unlock more features of these PDAs, as well as making these PDAs do more than what they were first intended to do. The XDA-Developers guys knew that the more people involved, the more knowledge could be gained and shared.
I still have an old O2 XDA II that is happily running Windows Mobile 6.5.3. It originally came with Windows Mobile 2003, Chinese version. XDA-Developers has allowed this old PDA to have a really extended life.
XDA-Developers has really changed over the years as membership grew. Much civility of the older members is being drowned out by new members, to the point where a noob of a few months calls others noobs and cannot offer any other information than to search.
I enjoy seeing any news on the development of Windows Phone 7 on the HD2; it is similar to when our PDAs running on 2003 could migrate to 2005, and then 6.x
I also appreciate the fact that our friends in China are participating more now. Some of the younger guys there now are really highly trained specialists in areas that pertain to smart phones. And, I appreciate the fact that some of these guys in China are making an effort to keep us updated on any progress that is made there.
I think we should all also remember that for some Chinese it is a daunting challenge to navigate a complex site like XDA-Developers, and that it is not always easy for them to communicate what they really want to when they have to translate from Chinese to English. It is much more difficult to do this than, say, translate a European language into English.
So, hopefully, allowances should be made, and we should all welcome the participation of our Chinese friends. Now, I wish HTC would go back to making truly global phones, rather than regional phones, LOL
Thank you for your understanding.
Thank you for the info, but i can't find the link to the video ^^
Plenty of intelligent comments there. Hey I wouldn't be reading the thread if I wasn't interested in the news.
On the subject of spirit of XDA though - until there's openess and sharing then they're not complying to what this place stands for. Right now its just building publicity and we're all wondering for what gain for them.

My own personal opinion is that there has been no sharing of the ROM demoed in the videos is that what we saw was actually an earlier test of Windows Phone 7 on the HD2. I am sure you know that the HD2 was used as a testbed for the earlier development of Windows Phone 7. Others have commented on certain elements in the video that appear to be similar to earlier testing ROMs.
So, I guess, in the end, those in China who are in possession of the HD2 running WP7 are not much closer to developing a flashable ROM than others. In short, I think there is no ROM yet to be shared.
I think we also need to distinguish those who filmed the video (who may well be doing it for financial gain) from our Chinese friends who have signed up as members of XDA-Developers. Clearly, there is a major difference between these two groups of people.
Of course, all the above is just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.
You got a good point.
True, patient is a virtue. Please get yourself a seat and wait! Hope that gooooood news pop out soon!

I think we should refrain from making posts in languages other than English as the rules of the forum are that it is an English forum. XDA-Developers moderators tend to get upset when they see other languages!
Other than that, no way will I get involved in flag disputes, but I do love those old Japanese style bath houses in Beitou, just north of Taipei. Really a relaxing experience after debating on XDA-Developers hours on end.

Preface: The continuity of posts leading to the following mini-essay were rightly deleted by the mods, as those posts contained languages other than English. However, I feel the main points of this mini-essay remain valid. I am not trying to create conflict, but remind others what XDA-Developer is all about: inclusiveness instead of exclusiveness, and technology, not nationality.
Although, due to historical and geographical reasons, I am much more familiar with Traditional Chinese characters, rather than Simplified Chinese characters, I was able to follow the gist of the conversation. Even though the conversation was mostly in jest, it still was somewhat unsettling to me.
Just as I will stand up for you guys in China, so I will do for the Japanese. If you check all the different forums on XDA-Developers you will find many Japanese who have made exceptional contributions to the site and its members. XDA-Developers is really a global tech site, which should remain inclusive rather than exclusive. So, when we log in, I think we should drop our nationalistic preconceptions at the door and get down to the work of concentrating on our devices supported by XDA-Developers. What do you think about that?
In the past I have chastised those who use cheap nationalist jokes against others from another country, and I will do that again. You know that to be a truth, as you have read some of those posts.
I know some of you guys from China have had a bit of a tough time breaking into the social community of XDA-Developers, so I hope you guys don't dish out to others what you suffered when you first joined this site.
Well, that is said and done, and soon to be forgotten.
And, I can climb down from my soapbox again. I think I need a vacation from climbing up and down from that soapbox. It is really tiring me out!
PS. A couple things to always remember, always post in English, don't assume "others" aren't comprehending what you type in your native language, and park nationalist prejudices at the door so that you can truly enjoy what XDA-Developers has to offer without causing conflicts.

[Q] WinMO on DHD is it possible? 2

Hi all
Is it possible to have any version of windows mobile on DHD? With or No dual boot?
Please kick,kickban,dns-ban, h*** even isp ban basically NO.
Why you ask , here is the story.
you want win , wel oke call mircosoft .
umm mircosoft can i put this on my phone.
h*** no !!
can i get the tons of G's of source code then?
ROFLMPO uuu NO!!!
Ow well tnx any way.
Dude Realy
Windows Mobile isn't open source, it's very unlikely that'll happen.
why would you want to i came from win mo and andriod drizzles all over it
I guess if you pay M$ $500000000 they will make it happen.
geez hell no!..
thats like saying...
uhhh..can u plz replace the engine of my ferrari with the engine of a toyota yaris
:cool :
And what's a HD2 compared to a DHD? Answer: a step backwards.
If you want winmo on a DHD, well... keep on dreaming because winmo is dead! Only windows (I)Phone 7 will be put on new devices.
f.
Cut the guy some slack.
I can understand the question. WM6.x is still, at the moment, THE best company mobile OS; tons of apps, legacy code, intra-infrastructure .... WP7 and Android just are not at that level of company wide mobile integration.
Plus, I have to say that programming for WM6.x is the best programming expreience I've had: visual studio, c# and pinvoke when needed make for an easy, fun programming environment. Android is tricky, WP7 is incomplete and locked down ... as a former WM6.x dev who is trying to transition to android on my new DHD, I can understand wanting to just run wm6.x and the programs I've dev'd on my DHD.
maybe he mentioned it wrong.. maybe he was intended to ask either is it possible for WP7 for Desire HD
my answer is, once WP7 is ported to any highly supported by dev phone such as the nexus one.. it might come to desire HD
though im not disagreeing with statement above the HTC desire hd and HD7 have similar spec and size it might be (not really a dev just a thought) easier to port. If im honest i would love to have windows phone on my DHD i like the idea of having 2 nandroids and swapping between them as windows phone brings some nice features and apps to the table.
name 1 app that google cant handel

Wow, I can't believe I wasted my time trying to decypher your post.
At the moment I don't believe its possible, no. If you want to play with Android and Windows Mobile 7 at the same time, get yourself a HTC HD2 for testing purposes (though I'm not even sure that WM7 roms on the HD2 are actually real)
Different thread same answer......NO
If you want MP7 buy a WP7 device, Android is Open source so you can install it on any hardware, MP7 isn't so you can't.
You're onto drugs huh?
Nice post.
Didn't I closed a thread with the same title a while ago?
I guess I'm losing my sanity Oh well....just to be polite the answer is NO...

We should add the word "Project" to the Subject of this thread. We should also add the rule "Do Not Ask for an ETA" in Bold, All Caps, bright red text. That is by far one of The Most irritating things to a dev, and I've known it to cause devs to not post progress updates. That is the number 1 rule of etiquette for projects like this. Dear Devs,
We thank you for your service. We thank you for all the new roms that make our devices unique. We thank you for the apps that you built for us, that make our phones ours not the companies. Because of you we can express our individuality.
With that being said, we ask one more thing from you. We ask you to take our devices to the next level. We ask you to push the borders once again. Let us all come together and create a TRULY COMMUNITY BUILT PORT of WP7 for our devices. A difficult feat none the less, but we can do it, TOGETHER.
Personally I think we can build this project to rival Cyanogen mod, rival not in our perice of software is better then yours but in that the amount of community members and, contributions of sofware, are friendyer and more together. Rivals and friends at the same time.
This is an open bounty for any team of developers that can get a working port of WP7 that boots and can at least have Wi-Fi working.

Hi
First of all you will need a "magldr" for your device.
without being able to flash it it's not possible at all.
i guess you need to talk to cotulla about this.
You also need proper drivers for the hardware (this will be a problem i guess)..
i wish you good luck.

Hopefully this thread actually gets off the ground. I would absolutely LOVE for this to eventually be a reality.
The HTC Evo does not have a Windows Mobile license...
License?
Oh, that... it's for purely educational purposes LOL
We don't want to really run wp7... just see if it will!
Tapatalked from my SUpersonic...
I am sure Microsoft would hate if more people used windows phone 7 and purchased from their market... N2m several people pointed out in the last thread that hd2 isnt liscensed for wp7 either. Anyways I am good for 25 with working netflix :-D

hd2 doesnt have a wp7 license either.
hopefully someone will pick this up i would try out wp7.
This is going to die real fast, lol, and i dont think it should be ported even if it could, if you wanted this you should have bought a WP7 instead of evo.

That's one of the most idiotic statements I've ever read. Most of us bought Evos over 7 months ago, before WP7 was even released. Now we want to be able to run WP7, just like the HD2 users can.
And I think it's ridiculous if this thread, or this whole movement is shut down by the mods. Neither the HD2 nor the Evo have Windows Phone 7 licenses. If they can do it, so can we.
