I think I have some sort of structure now. It's insanely buggy. It fails ALMOST immediately. At least it sort of tries to boot WP7... sort of. I still have quite a bit of research and trial and error still to come, but I believe I'm on to something where before I really felt like I was stabbing in the dark. Trap the errors, trap the errors, trap the errors and debuuuuuuuug.
I think I might be going insane haha.......I look forward to the day that I have something worth posting......so shut down....naysayers. We're still a ways from that day still unfortunately.

I'd also like to level set with all the folks that are anxious to get WP7 on their EVO. I guarantee you that this is at least 60 days out until it is safe enough for anyone other than the dev(s) to test/flash.
We should add the word "Project" to the Subject of this thread. We should also add the rule "Do Not Ask for an ETA" in Bold, All Caps, bright red text. That is by far one of The Most irritating things to a dev, and I've known it to cause devs to not post progress updates. That is the number 1 rule of etiquette for projects like this. I hope everyone in this thread can understand and respect that.

Dear Devs,
We thank you for your service. We thank you for all the new roms that make our devices unique. We thank you for the apps that you built for us, that make our phones ours not the companies. Because of you we can express our individuality.
With that being said, we ask one more thing from you. We ask you to take our devices to the next level. We ask you to push the borders once again. Let us all come together and create a TRULY COMMUNITY BUILT PORT of WP7 for our devices. A difficult feat none the less, but we can do it, TOGETHER.
Personally I think we can build this project to rival Cyanogen mod, rival not in our perice of software is better then yours but in that the amount of community members and, contributions of sofware, are friendyer and more together. Rivals and friends at the same time.
This is an open bounty for any team of developers that can get a working port of WP7 that boots and can at least have Wi-Fi working.

I PM'd an HD2 developer about what we need to make this work. I don't know what half of this stuff is.
Original Message:
Hi
First of all you will need a "magldr" for your device.
without being able to flash it it's not possible at all.
i guess you need to talk to cotulla about this.
You also need proper drivers for the hardware (this will be a problem i guess)..
i wish you good luck.

Hopefully this thread actually gets off the ground. I would absolutely LOVE for this to eventually be a reality.

The HTC Evo does not have a Windows Mobile license...

License?
Oh, that... it's for purely educational purposes LOL
We don't want to really run wp7... just see if it will!
Tapatalked from my SUpersonic...

I am sure Microsoft would hate if more people used windows phone 7 and purchased from their market... N2m several people pointed out in the last thread that hd2 isnt liscensed for wp7 either. Anyways I am good for 25 with working netflix :-D

hopefully someone will pick this up i would try out wp7.

This is going to die real fast, lol, and i dont think it should be ported even if it could, if you wanted this you should have bought a WP7 instead of evo.

That's one of the most idiotic statements I've ever read. Most of us bought Evos over 7 months ago, before WP7 was even released. Now we want to be able to run WP7, just like the HD2 users can.
And I think it's ridiculous if this thread, or this whole movement is shut down by the mods. Neither the HD2 nor the Evo have Windows Phone 7 licenses. If they can do it, so can we.

[DISCUSSION] ANDROID/MAEMO/LINUX on HD2 (Discussion Thread)

Okay I'm a lurker on the developer thread and I thought it best to create a separate topic where everyone can talk about it (or complain that people can't shoehorn an OS on a device fast enough for their liking despite the fact that people are doing it for free basically) without all this "DEVELOPER DISCUSSION ONLY AUGUGHGH" "but we don't know where else to post about it"-ism
so this thread is for the non-developer discussion of said project:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=578575
(won't let me past "outside links"(?) cos I'm a n00b for some reason)
so there's no excuse now for anyone who posts "when is it done?" in the other thread
Also, a few pointers since some people don't get it and I'd rather save a developers/non-developers civil war thing.
How long will it take? - You're looking at about a year at least. Remember, it's installing an OS on a system that isn't meant to even have it. It's going to take a hell of a lot of time to guesswork and muck around with this stuff.
(all the people moaning on engadget re: the US HD2 launch being all "HTC release an android update right now " and then being all "OH XDA WILL SORT IT OUT" (because apparently xda is their overnight miracle machine) annoy me something chronic for this reason.)
remember too that these people are more or less doing this for free.
Can't you just install the Nexus/Supersonic/etc. rom on there? - No.
from what I understand of the whole thing (I'm not a developer so take this with a pinch of salt) there's an awful lot of different code and such on these things which means it isn't as easy to just "install" it on another OS. It's like asking why you just can't fit a jaguar engine into a VW beetle. It could work, but there'd be a lot of work and rerouting etc. to be made and even then it would need a lot of tuning and sorting out.
Is it ready yet? - No. You will know when it's ready.
What's happening at the moment? - From what I've read of the whole thing they're trying to iron out kinks with the linux Haret thing thats going to run Android. After they've got it to boot, they're going to have to try and get android working with the HD2. This is why it's taking so long.
so yeah.
hey??
yeah but..
this is the xda DEVELOPERS forum
and this is the HD2 DEVELOPEMENT section
so i guess the linux android development thread does what its supposed to !!
i know its frustrating and you like me want android on the hd2 but to be honest i i find half the fun is the bloody long wait and the small progressions that are made, thats how we learn.
=====PEACE=====
edit >> ok looks like this thread was useful after all - my wrong !! ..
**shrug**
A mod can move it elsewhere if needs be, I was just getting sick of all the feuding going on between people who wanted to talk about it and the developers yelling at the people who aren't posting about developing and thought it best to make a separate thread so non-developer people can talk about the project and developer people can drop in and give advice
yeah
actually you got a point.
theres a fair ammount of flame grill on the other thread that does get annoying
i subscribe to the other thread so i get an instant email for every post and i get my email on my hd2 just as you would a text message so it can be a pain.
=====PEACE=====
Ha finally found again this topic.
I am wishing you all my best to port Android to the HD2 because with all the **** around WinMo 7 comptability, you look the only one able to save the HD2 in the future!
I really hope everyday that Android will be working on our HD2...

Why don't *YOU* take the lead then if you're so capable of passing judgement on other people; as to do that you must have some amazing development skills in getting an operating system running on unknown poorly documented hardware.

Ooooh dear...i´m still wondering why people are that damn lazy these days, not reading just one line in threads that are having 709 posts at this moment...don´t you people think that there should be a 100 percent-likelihood (in a developers-forum!) that another big brain spits out such ideas? exactly 1.000 other so called "newbies" have mentioned this point in the past few weeks...sometimes in every third post, again and again, without having read what other people have posted one line above. This is not about beeing a newbie or not, this is just about a little respect to the developers, serving nice presents to all of us without getting paid for it. what you guys can do for them? well, the first step should be not to spam around questions that already have been answered 1000 times before...instead go and read through the replies and at the end, when you are sure that there is no answer yet (after using the search function too, of course)...THAN ask your question or type in your comments and I think everbody will thank you for your participation in this community.
Sorry zabique, of course this is not against you ...but after reading exactly the same line for the 20st time/last two weeks there was no inhibition of my fingers typing these lines possible
i have a lot of respect for those developers, i die a bit inside every time a noob asks how it is going and **** like that.. anyway its nice they are working on it and i hope they succeed! dual boot windows / android would be really cool to have! i will surely donate if its working.. but to who should i donate? maybe its an idea to make a sort of bounty (lets say i will give $20 for getting android on hd2) and someone else also $20. thats 40 in total. if that 40 is shared and given to the developers that have worked on that project it would be a stimulation for them i guess.. only i dont know what developers are working intensively..
anyway my reward will be $20
more of you are going to join?
maybe its an idea to add the totall's of the $$ and the name who gives what in the first post?

actually he is quite right. if you have any idea what developers are talking about then you can see that all they do is guess in trial and error style. but aparently you dont have any idea
From the viewpoint of a software architect, it's indeed hard to watch the other thread without crinching every once in a while. On the other hand, the plan of attack there seems to be part of a culture that has done stuff like this quite succesfully with other challenges.
So i won't be surprised if we eventually get a nice port of android running on the HD2.
Mind you, i do believe that an undertaking like this would need the infrastructure, tools and mindset like the main android project has in place at the moment. But that would require a "DEVs and Testers only" door policy.
Simply put, the other thread here lets the lesser gods put their 2 cents in too. I'm cool with that.
BTW, i do not approve of any condescending remarks about the the other thread, nor do i wish to make my own through this mail.

[Q] What happened to Epic Experience?

Looking for 1.2.0... I see activity in the thread at 2:40am but the sticky post goes to a shut down notice... anybody?

Well, this is sad for a couple reasons.
1) This is an established developer, who never required anything for use of his roms, and had over 10 revisions located here. He *rewarded* his donators for supporting him. This is not to be confused with a *few* other rom chefs with no proven track record, not released anything to the board and asking for money for a rom. This dev is in a diffrent league and should be treated diffrently IMO.
2) He had alot of users using his roms, he had alot of support and Q&A that is all gone now, the thread is gone but people still use his roms and may want support or something to continue. I dont think making the thread *dissapear* is the correct action. It also insinuates Guilty before proven innocent as the dev is punished before things are worked out.
My 2 cents
I think the mods should explain themselves and see if the community sees any problems with schiz... I for one do not begrudge the guy for early release to donators... fact is this is the american way which I am proud to be a part of.
This is especially lame, because now I have no idea where the hell to get the thing. What if I WANT to donate? He's not charging for the ROM. He's just releasing early to donations.

I agree. I have been using Schizo's rom (1.1.6 w/Mixup kernel) for a couple weeks now and was greatly looking forward to version 1.2. He has done the best on incorporating compatibility with different kernels as well as prompt support.
I think the community is owed an explanation and a way to contact Schizo to see his side of the story.
i agree... he has supported the rom, stayed up late to get out the newest version early and always said he was releasing it regually as well.....
His ROMs actually work and you all freaking delete his thread? What the heck is wrong with you all. Stomping on a DEV, this is like the crap Apple does. Totally Lame. You all need to to reinstate this guy. Folks in this community "donate" money to DEVs and to keeping this site up and running. If word gets out that MODs are deleting threads for pointless reasons then people are going to pull their money out of this site and will start to hurt then help XDA.
Put him back-online and get the MOD to explain his actions!
I agree.
The Epic needs Devs and he seemed like a good one.
I understand the mods hesitance for his methods, but they should lay down GROUND RULES if they think he did something wrong.
I'm fine with it being released early. Call it "beta testing" for those who donated. In fact, with many new ROMs I usually wait a few days in case there are bugs.
The mods should allow the donate early-beta test model, stating it must be released publicly within X days.
Those of us who had donated have received an email from schiz. He says hes trying to work it out with the mods. Hopefully theyll get it worked out, if not, he'll pop up on his own site.
I ran fresh for months on my hero, but i think his donators-get-it-first was based off his website, not xda. I guess because schiz stated that donators would get it early, he got in trouble. If the mods really want to stop this kind of thing, then ban any developer who links to a donation account. But they wont do that, and shouldnt, because devs do deserve donations. But i guess you better not point to the donate link, otherwised youre banned.

I have the latest update and am unsure on installing it. I don't want to install something that I won't have any support for, this is ridiculous. He puts his time, energy and money into making a rom and releases it to some people who have given him donations because they liked his rom so much, nothing wrong with it in my opinion.
Schizo and I are going to be working on a site tonight, since he has the domain and the web space now, we are going to work something up.

Like I said, he should offer exclusive "beta test" to people via their paypal e-mail addresses.
Then he can keep it off the forums, but still give reason to donate.
I've been on all sides of the equation (developer, donator, and leecher). I think it's fair. Just as long as he releases it, in full, to the leechers within X time. He seems like a quality developer.
Wtf schizo was an awesome dev. He was really dedicated. So what if he released them early to donators. Like someone else saidd, that's the american way. I expect to wait a little longer for something that's free. I understand completely.
I don't get why he was given the banhammer. Unless he said "you can't get 1.2 unless you donate." Then I don't see how it violates tos

guess I don't like the phrase leecher... but I guess if I don't pay I get called names... while this thing is in hot dev I wait to find what I want to keep and what I will call quits on... when I find the "end" I donate... until then I would rather be called a tester... when things go wrong I explain what's going on that might be fixed... in that case I'm a tester... not a leecher... just sayin'

FUNDRAISING to REPLACE DARKSTONE HTC HD2

Darkstone has a lot of bad news for us. The genius is leaving us for university and now he lost his files and his HD2. Let us get up in arms and donate to replace the genius' HD2.
OOPs! Is it against the rules of the forum?
Whoa! I really appreciate the thoughtfulness but this really isn't necessary!
I sold the HD2, it's no longer in my possession, I didn't lose it xD
I'm always keeping my eye on this forum though
And my files were lost because I got a new laptop and didn't backup the files on my old laptop before selling it
If anyone wants to donate, I highly recommend donating to the developers of the HD2 kernel!
Thanks anyway though
don know y peeps wants to make money out of this site....every devs r retiring becuz they wants to make money,,,bottom line
building a build not of a big deal but the main ingredient for hd2 on android is the haret or kernel or magdlr that made possible by cottula
Which build do you recommend to use except yours darkstone? Mdeejay ?
Is HTC Desire still the best source and will it continue to be so for the unforseen future?
(I heard you have plans of a converter, but I'd like an optimized build with user community)
Thanks btw, been enjoying your builds since day 1!

Well, if it's not a big deal where is the link to your own build? Time is money. If the dev wastes his time to give us a cause to brag about our HD2 why is it wrong for him/her to expect support from the users who can appreciate his/her genius? You expect a dev to spend a whole day torturing his brain cells to write codes while he is feeding his belly with air?
I am not a developer. I just love technology and i am just amazed by it and those talents behind it. Take the time to appreciate the magic of what seems trivial like sending a picture wireless to a computer. That is priceless!
When I win the lottery I'll have a special fund set up just for those enthusiastic devs working for free.
Be satisfied in everchanging world
Guys,
All developers have done a great job. I am one of non-developers enjoying builds from various developers starting magician. HD2 was alone last year with hardware capabilities it has. Following recent releases of newer phone with similar or even better hardware with native android support from HTC, requirements of HD2 based android will go down and interest from developers will shift to develop based on new hardware..
Whatever developers have given so far was also beyond thoughts last year. So, I am happy and satisafied with what we have today on this forum. May be some developers are still developeing further. How far we can go? may be sucess in using fully developed Desire HD on HD2 ? Anything beyond that would be not worth waiting without returns. Develpers are entitled to earn something why not!!
Sorry for anything I may have mentioned hurting anybody. Sorry for that.
AS
without dev's hard work and effort, there is no way that your hd2 can perform so well! Originally its just so normal and not much to play with... See now, our hd2 can perform so well and even using android, i'm grateful for all their great efforts.
Fundraising? Count me in!

As DarkStone1337 said, he did not lose the phone - he willingly sold it.
I'll close this thread for now, as it would appear it was started solely to solicit donations, despite them not being aware of this.

Project 7 Nexus One, Double the 7rouble we have a EVOlu7ion

Today is the new rebirth of the Nexus One. The Future is near.
Windows Phone 7 for the Nexus One is up for grabs for any developer who thinks they can handle this feat.
I have built a sister thread to this in the Evo 4g Development site.
Further down is some information of our progress.
We have a small team working on the Evo 4g but we need more people to help work on this for the Nexus One. Think of this as CM7 but instead of AOSP - WP7

You guys are doing great job. Keep it up. We are waiting for the final release. Thanks
Great job man. Keep it up
Great job man!

Keep up the good work , a dual booting nexus one is a good idea !
it's really nice,good job
Cool
Wow, this project is awesome I hope this will be the remark of nexus one's revival
we need more devs please step up
Thread moved, as there is no active development going on in the thread. Once there is actual development happening in the thread, PM me, and I'll move it.
Seems like you've got a really neat project on your hands but your rules post comes off as really entitled and arrogant. Good luck with your work.
I'm pretty excited by this! Just the kind of thing to breathe some new life into my N1. The dual-boot option, if feasible, sounds like a really neat idea.
Hi. Just wondering, has there been any movement since? Thanks.

A plea to all Developers and Contributors

Guys,
First of all this is not aimed at anyone in particular... it's for all to read.
It's obvious that something is going on in the Dev section concerning the Sense 6 roms ported from the M8..... I have no idea what it is and I have no wish to know.
However when these things kick off as they do from time to time it is not Developers or Contributors that are affected.... it's us, the users of the roms etc. XDA is supposed to be a community and is supposed to be about sharing so isn't it time that everybody shares their stuff... there are enough users out there for all of your work to be enjoyed and appreciated.
Please guys, let's all behave as a community and give all a chance to enjoy the many varied and good things that you Devs and Contributors give to us.
Thank you.

This is what happens when people are more worried about their Ego then anything else. Nothing we can do about it. As developers are allowed to keep their own work to themselves and not share it with others. This is the reason many refuse to use OEM based roms or prefer to take the base rom and make their own for personal use.
Ill be honest. This is the main reason I dropped Sense and am on my last OEM-non-nexus device.
Nothing can really be done about it.

Unfortunately Sense "Development" has left the "From us to you" level in many areas since quite some time and has reached a stage where all that counts is "I am out earlier with my rom", " I have more users", "My thread has more posts", "My p.... is longer". Ok, not the last, but you get the point.
So, as long as this does not change again, there is no such thing as a "Dev-community" in Sense development.
Sad as it may be, from time to time this kind of development has unavoidable consequences and the users are sometimes suffering from "collateral damage". That's the bitter truth and could only be changed by a change of attitude by some devs.
Just my 2cts.

And it will as long as people keep needing an ego boost. That is all it is. They want to say they have the best, most mods, fastest, ect rom.
And to be honest. There is nothing done to OEM roms that are really that impressive. If they wanted to HTC could come in and stop all of them in one shot.

Yes, that is the root of all evil (in this context) imho. I could not agree more.
Unfortunately this has become the state of affairs. In the end its down to the individual devs if they share their work. I do see some great things happening in the way of development, its just a shame resources cant be pulled together, then something truly fantastic may emerge, But until people stop putting their ego in front of development progress and community spirit, nothing will change.
Its all about, hey look what we did, aint it cool. Rather than, lets work together as a community and make a difference.

I honestly wish this would happen... XDA should not be about money, we all agree here that that attitude towards development is pretty much unwanted here.

Ow well, i hope you realize there ARE still devs out there that share the love buddy.
Its just few bad apples, (whats in the name huh) that spoils the whole barrel.....
I gotta chime in here with my .98 cents worth.
It's not just some stuff at xda. We're talking about innovation in all of tech being affected by a particular spirit.
Think about it. Apple has 147 billion dollars in unused capital but they won't make it happen as far as getting swipe gestures on their ios keyboard.
Android has so many attitude problems as well. You can get one device and it has certain strengths and certain flaws. Then a different device will have the things that are currently missing in your device, but it will be lacking the good things your current device already has.
Things like planned obsolescence, data caps, expensive smartphones with faulty displays, over heated batteries, on and on and on.
Whether it be Apple, msoft, or Google...none realize that they're about to kill the golden goose.
Some of us will just throw up our hands and say " to hell with you all" , and just hang on to whatever device we currently have for much longer than we'd like to. Because, just as soon as you upgrade, there's a slightly newer and better spec-bump version.
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.

And it's not new, nor confined to Sense. I remember when I made skins for MobileShell on Windows Mobile there were guys who refused to share basic knowledge just to have a headstart. It was simple xml, no high-end coding, so nothing that would earn you fame and fortune. And that was in 2008 or so...
It's just an ego thing and it will always be here. So the limits have to be set from time to time obviously to keep things stright and under control.
In my opinion there is an issue with "credit" and "permission"...example, if a developer ports a ROM over from another device, well done. But does that mean the developer owns that port, to me, no, because it's still HTC files used to get that port working. Should it be required to ask for permission to use that port? NO. However, it should be required to CREDIT the person who got the port working. But asking permission makes it seem as if you own something, which you don't. This is the problem I see. Permission should not be required on XDA at all, only a requirement to credit someone. If they are expecting permission, they should take their stuff off XDA, and go elsewhere, because I know for a fact that none of the developers asked HTC if they could use M8 files to create an M7 port, and I'm sure HTC doesn't care, but for some reason these developers care way too much.

I cant really agree with this. First off, asking permission is polite, its the reaction to that request that is the issue. If the request is reasonable and for the benefit of the community, i would like to think any devoted member/dev would be willing to share the knowledge. Chances are, that dev picked up a lot of knowledge from this very forum beforehand, so not to share prevents this circle of knowledge. Credit, is just a given.
I also have to say your simplified way of "porting" is a bit disagreeable. Some of these guys put many hours of work into their ROMs, so to say all that should be dismissed due to the original code being that of HTC, is a little unfair. It sounds contradictory, so...
We have 2 issues:
1 - Free sharing of work
2 - The protection of devs who have put hours of work into a project and wish to keep it "exclusive"
Both have to be considered, imho
Its a matter of balance, one with the rules (that i think we have) and the other with attitude.
As Zel said, HTC could pull the plug at any time. Making this a non issue.
