I'm thinking of getting an android phone but noticed that there's no free app to edit office files. Is this true? Because I'm poor and can't afford $10 or so to buy an app. This is a dealbreaker to me. Thanks.
*bump
I would like to know this too. Most of the office suites on android are >$10, which is pretty steep.
No there is not a free one.
Try find documents to go app. Its a paid app but if u try hard to find it in the worldwideweb then u'll lucky to get it for free...

yes, of course i'm aware of that. but i'll try as hard as possible to keep my stuff legal.
It depends on the chosen model. Some Phone come with an office suite. i.e. Samsung i9000 Galaxy S.
How about thinkfree? It's free (have it in my SGS for free...)

Hi!
I have just seen this amazing program.
http://www.smithmicro.com/default.tpl?group=product_full&sku=QLMCWXX
To see photo, video and play music.
Bad news, we have to pay if we want to see it.
I am searching but...no free?
Do you like??
I want it!! free, of course.
$30? LOL
I'll wait until someone on this site codes a clone for free.
Nice stuff though.... but not nice enough to shell out $30.
well, you should brake into a car or someone's house and steal their phones. maybe someone has it on their device....
...so stupid.

It is pretty stupid that they don't offer a free trial download to try it out. I'm definitely not going to pay $30 for something that I don't even know what it's like. No thank you.

Maybe its because they don't want people to rip off their product without paying for it.

i don't know about this "revue software" and the description of what it does is not very clear to me, but i have tested another tool that does the same thing (i suppose. i'm french so my english is not perfect) named trakax on a htc vox and it seemed fairly good for a slow device (200 cpu) and non-tactile.
it should be very cool on a decent pdaphone with good cpu.
go here : http://www.trakax.com/software/mobile/
it costs 30 again, but you have a free demo to test it.

I agree, it may be difficult, but when you see someone asking for a copy of a retail piece of software on here, insisting they have it for free, (as if that's a right), then find a near identical request on a warez site asking for the crack for the same software, its not difficult to see where that activity would lead to if we all took that stance.
WB
I don't have a problem paying for the apps that we use on our devices and i'm willing to pay a whole helluva' lot more but we should @ least have the trial option to see if it's worth it or even if its compatible with our devices. Most developers give you that trial because they stand by their product and they know it'll sell itself once the word gets out, so maybe them not giving a trial offer says something about their product. Just my opinion.
I've done trials of and loved:
Resco Exlorer
Memmaid
AEButton
Ultimate Launcher
Vito Screen Capture
Phone Weaver
...And paid for:
Resco
Memaid
AEButton
UL
Vito
Phone Weaver
It wouldn't even occur to me to use a cracked copy. Weird since I've used warez for some windows PC software, but being on a forum like this you see how the programmers are good people, just like me (only smarter) and it puts a face to the theft and I wouldn't consider doing it. Now I don't do cracked stuff for PC software either. I guess its part of growing up.
Anyway, I think there are a lot of ppl like me that if they like a trial they will be HAPPY to buy it.
I have just found this video!
Hi
I found a video of Revue.
It seems to be fantastic even with an application to manage the files with the PC!
http://my.smithmicro.com/wireless/revue/Revue324_121807_OffLn.wmv
I want to test this program for my HTC Touch, but I canĀ“t download it from anywhere.
Anyone has this program?
Can you tell me if it is fast and useful?
Anyone knows where can I download Revue?
Thank YOU ALL
I just took a quick glance at the site you listed and looks like something I used to use on my Palm, I think you can use this for free, don't completely remember, but know I never paid for it. I remember now, you have to keep your pc online and you can access it for free, think that was the deal, and you had to pay to store your files online to access them while your pc was offline.
Anyway to the point its Avvenu, check it out.
Log Me In may be the same.
Caragato!!
Please NOT SPAM HERE!!!
So is this basically streaming media from your computer but with lots of organization options?
How is it not like Orb?
It is a finger friendly software just like iphone to see media on our pocketpc.
I was just wondering what you guys, if any of you, installed in case of a lost/stolen phone.
I mean that I would like to find a proper app that wipes the phone for outside on a simple text message or any other things that cannot be disable by the theft if it happens. I've tried some of them, forgot the names, but it doesn't seem to work, well that was before NAND though.
Of course, I would like to find an app that is free, but if there's really nothing that work, well then I'll pay if it's a decent price.
Any clues?
I use Lookout... It is free in the market and if you decide too, you can pay for premium. It give you a full trial for 30 days I think it is but you get most features in the free version.

Thanks, though the problem that I saw with this app is that in the free version there is no "wipe" available as it is only in the premium version. And paying 30$ every year is not what I'm looking for... Though if another app has a 1 time payment, then it might be acceptable.
If it's free, it's even better...
Thanks anyways, I've already installed the app you told me
Yup... that is a drawback for sure, but I haven't found a free one as of yet. I'm still considering the premium lookout myself just cause it does so much.

I'm after suggestions for a decent STANDALONE mobile phone locator (I don't want it incorporated into an antivirus app). It must make use of maps to locate the position of the phone.

Well there's HTCsense.com. I don't know if it works with the gingerbread update or if you have to root your phone, to get access to it.
Or you could give Prey a try:
preyproject.com (I can't post links -_- )

I bought SeekDroid 2 days ago, just for the same reason. It is THE most lightweight app of its kind, and it cost me only .60 euros.

Just had a look at Prey but the reviews are very poor, but thanks for the heads up on this.

This looks quite good. Good reviews, features I'm wanting and cheap too. Thanks.
There's also something called Plan B:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb
Seems to work for people.
Ive been using wheresmydroid for past year. Only runs when you text the phone a special keyword. Can be used to find on silent too. Would recommend.
I second Plan B. You can install it remotely from your PC even after you've lost your phone. Provided data is turned on.
An ars article about it.

Yeah I just scooped it up myself. Lets see how this software is.....
Also Mods may want to move this to the App section.
Thanks for the heads up. Looks like a good app. Just skimmed it but notice you can edit any document straight away without having to hit another button to edit -nice. Opened a PDF but was really slow loading each page. loved the animated icons and menu strip looks professional and sleek.
Didnt know about amazon app store before. Stupid thing doesn't work in Canada though? Lame

Unfortunately, even though it was free on Amazon for a day, it's paid software... so you won't be able to get a copy here. I feel bad that people can't use the Amazon market internationally though... the free app is sometimes a good one.
I got my the other day Thanks
It's a great app. One really nice feature is that it recognizes password protected files. The Asus Polaris software doesn't.

Can someone recommend a free "reliable" program to transfer my data on my 4s to my new N3, or do I need a "paid" program?
(there is too much info on Google to sift through, I respect/trust the recommendations of you guys).

I used the samsung smart switch. http://www.samsung.com/us/smart-switch/
Just back up your iphone (I had a 4s as well) and then plug in your note 3, run the program and select the things you want to transfer. Worked perfectly for me except for emails, which I just entered my user accounts and passwords, synced, and done. Everything was there from photos to contacts to text messages. Actually-music didn't transfer but that was a plus for me cause I wanted to get rid of itunes anyway, so i just dragged and dropped everything into my sd card that I ended up using.
