I need a kernel for wired tether. Was wondering is one was available?

Shouldn't they all support PDANet? That's what I'm using. Granted, I'm still stock.
Are you having an issue with one?

yup the newest Mixup kernel has that support.
What's the difference between the wireless tether in MixUp and PDANet?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
PDAnet requires extra software installed on the PC side of things, whereas everything needed for Wired Tether is already there by default in Windows and Linux distros like Ubuntu. PDAnet's way is also a bit slower and more hackish in my experience.
Thanks. I'll have to check it out.

On Windows you still need to install the Samsung USB drivers so that Windows will recognize the RNDIS device on the phone, but this is essentially true.
Yes, please do try the latest MixUp kernel. You'll also need the modified version of android-wired-tether that supports the Epic kernel. The step-by-step directions to use the wired tether client are in that thread, although it shouldn't be terribly difficult.
Please do report if you have success with it. I'm looking for confirmation that it works from a few other folks before forwarding the wired-tether patch upstream.

You can't be using stock dk28 if your using a custom rom..you mean to say epic exp rom + stock dk28 kernel..(err..sorry couldn't help myself >.>)
Anyways, you are using Android-Wifi-Tether version 2.05? (you can get it on the marketpalce now)

I have no idea, but I know that this has suddenly become a big topic in the last few days.
Saw that on jts aosp that it is not ok to tether on his build, does this go for dl30 as well?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
From what I understand yes... currently the kernel has a way to tell if tethering is taking place...
stupid question. I can still teather with what I'm running correct? or can they now detect me too?

You're fine, it's DL30-specific.
I'm curious what all it detects, as in does it just detect the hack to let you use the 3G Mobile Hotspot app for free? Or does it detect most of the market apps as well, like Barnacle, Wireless Tether, etc? And, of course, is anyone working on ripping that out yet?
Whoever gets to the bottom of this and fixes this will most definitely receive a donation from me.

Does this apply just to jt's aosp, or does it apply to the stock verizon build that adrynalyn posted as well?
I believe it applies to both, with Kaoscinate being the only Froyo-based rom not impacted- although I don't know for sure.

HDMI capability is going to be based on the kernel not the ROM.
Now, is there a kernel compatible with Sense 2.1 or 3.0 that has the drivers for HDMI?
Not sure, haven't looked.
EDIT: I'm going to guess no, but that may not be entirely accurate.
HDMI Kernel
Hey Guys I am running a GB Rom and have HDMI mirroring working on 720p .
Just search and download the file and flash this Kernel and your Good to go =)

I have successfully ported the current code of HDMwIn into the freedom kernel I have been developing. Rom depending it does work and works great. I am currently running Miks 2.55 and it works awesome.

As far as I can recall, there are currently 3 kernels for sense that support hdmi. As mentioned above, lithids freedom kernel, which works well and also has undervolting and oc/uc capabilities, chop suey kernel 9.26 and 9.27, and the latest poon sense kernel.

Same here, Lithid (thanks!). Something feels good about seeing my kernel's developer endorsing my rom of choice. MikG and Lithid Freedom were my first (and remain the only) OS/kernel flashes after rooting my OTA Gingerbreaded EVO. The combo has been equally stable to stock while affording more functionality including plug-and-play HDMwIn.

not CM7,NOT miui,i just need a great 2.3 kernel! Just use for JVS/JVT and so on!
the Talon kernel is good ,but not great ,its color is not good enough, even use by voodoo control, and the battery life is a lit short.
i dont care about the GPS,i just want a more smooth kernel.
---------------------------------------
I can give you two kernels, you can try them.
Explain:
1.GalaxianEE_JVS.tar is i9000's kernel, but you can try it ,just no sound, the other function is ok(not conside GPS).
2.lidroid kernel 1.6 is vibrant's kernel,you can try it,it's a good kernel,but just have 329 RAM.
3. you can use oldin to manage these two kernel. they can be used by 2.34 JVQ/JVS/JVT, just try!
my english is bad, i wish all of you can understand what i said.sorry
I'll ask Mr.Walter the leprechaun to make it next week.

1. Its a kernel from a firmware and base that was not meant for our phones.
2. No kernel is perfect, even if it was made by Samsung themselves.
3. Android kernels are Linux kernels, can only be compiled in Linux and sometimes Mac, never in Windows.
4. Kernel deving can sometimes be hard and frustrating, especially if it was ported from another device. Sometimes the drivers and modules don't work right when they are compiled, causing less than great battery life and some errors. It happens. Its just another side effect when dealing with ports from other phones.

Thanks for the info. I m very happy to own a Galaxy S as it keeps getting updates but sad to own a Vibrant as Samsung/T-Mobile just forgot this device.
This is to the devs, I'm sure you've all heard about the program Canonical is running to get Ubuntu on the Nexus 7. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Nexus7/Installation http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/27/ubuntu-nexus-7-installer/
Anywhere here's the link, I hope you guys can get this to work because the lapdock and native ubuntu would be the best. I know it's a leap, but it would be sweet.

Wasn't referring to Canonical supporting us... That's kind of why I was hoping devs would see this. Maybe it could be modified for our device after/if we get a proper kernel/drivers and regardless it's pretty interesting even if you don't own the device.
Moved to the appropriate forum.
Ain't there already nvidia tegra kernel for linux? We would only need some drivers for more gsm related stuff. (But only if anyone wants to make calls)

There are drivers for Linux but it would be a huge work from our devs to manage booting on a kernel that supports these drivers.

It's for the tegra 2, but I believe it's either the harmony/ventena board, so it's similar but different from ours.
EDIT: and I know this has been discussed before, but would this http://www.nvidia.com/content/devzone/linux-for-tegra.html assist at all in native port?
From what i learned lately. Android kernel works differently in some aspects than linux. I think we could we could replace safetly any kernel with that from nvidia with ventana support(of course without gsm, gps support). Someone said that android kernel doesn't probe hardware just directly connects to it. On the other hand linux kernel does probe hardware so if anything would be not supported it wouldn't use it, so instead generic drivers would be used (like on x86). Or am i totally wrong?
