not CM7,NOT miui,i just need a great 2.3 kernel! Just use for JVS/JVT and so on!
the Talon kernel is good ,but not great ,its color is not good enough, even use by voodoo control, and the battery life is a lit short.
i dont care about the GPS,i just want a more smooth kernel.
---------------------------------------
I can give you two kernels, you can try them.
Explain:
1.GalaxianEE_JVS.tar is i9000's kernel, but you can try it ,just no sound, the other function is ok(not conside GPS).
2.lidroid kernel 1.6 is vibrant's kernel,you can try it,it's a good kernel,but just have 329 RAM.
3. you can use oldin to manage these two kernel. they can be used by 2.34 JVQ/JVS/JVT, just try!

1. Its a kernel from a firmware and base that was not meant for our phones.
2. No kernel is perfect, even if it was made by Samsung themselves.
3. Android kernels are Linux kernels, can only be compiled in Linux and sometimes Mac, never in Windows.
4. Kernel deving can sometimes be hard and frustrating, especially if it was ported from another device. Sometimes the drivers and modules don't work right when they are compiled, causing less than great battery life and some errors. It happens. Its just another side effect when dealing with ports from other phones.

Thanks for the info. I m very happy to own a Galaxy S as it keeps getting updates but sad to own a Vibrant as Samsung/T-Mobile just forgot this device.

Nopee You Just Choose The One You Like....Dead Horse Its One Of The best .. and overstock too
I personally like Overstock with Bionix. I get about what everyone else is getting with this set up, 1700's, for the quadrant. I read too many issues with Deadhorse vs Overstock so I went with it.
FTR, I was keeping up with the different builds right up to maybe the last two so I am NOT saying Deadhorse is bad. Many people have been satisfied with it.
Deadhorse from what I read is a little more customizable than Overstock but when it comes to the kernel I don't like to get that technical. I like mine in "here you go" form.

Hello
I recently switched form cm7 to miui and i gotta say im impressed it is so smooth and beautiful!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_bBYAGYFls
Thanks s15274n!!!
i need 2 questions answered before is switch..
1) How's battery life so far?
2) what DOESN'T work...
bcz cm7 is pissing me off with me getting 7 hours of battery.
P.S. can i use launcherpro or something like that instead of the launcher you have there?
and there's a OFFICIAL miui comming too
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013370
Battery life is like a bit better than cm7 about 3 more hours.
Everything that doesn't work in cm7
It has been supported officially already where have you been lol
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yeah i trust ya, i just flashed MIUI preview
and the MIUI preview is not "official"
If you go to the link i sent you to, then it leads to the miui forum...
they say their making a 100% official for t959.
the miui we're using right now is a port from the miui9000 forum, thats why not everything works
OOOPs just saw the "based on i9000 miui" and yes it is now since it's on their list of supported devices! Awesome! maybe we wont have to flash using these complicated steps?
yeah we won't currently the dev who ported it removed the kernel that comes with it when you flash it and thats why he told us to flash the cm7 kernel... so it'd work with 2.3.3
Thanks for the suggestion, i love it so far. restoring apps.
Any tips since this is my first time using it? any tips to make it faster? (is it even possible? lol its so fast) or any UI tweaks etc? im not used to the new settings app unfortunately lol.
Mmm I ocd it to 1.3 and used automem killer to strict. It is a little confusing lol xD

Hi, i came back for galaxy 3 dev-section and what i saw was strange i was so happy that there are SO MANY custom ROMS but when i read the threads, their all the same :-( nothing new, nothing special :-( those ROMS arent any more custom :-( there are like 5 ROMS with the SAME features but different name... why? now im asking you to reply to this thread with yes or no. is there too many "custom ROMS" i know that there is somebody that says yes (too many "custom" ROMS) and somebody that says no.

Well it's really hard to "Create" a new feature and dev's only put things together while people like marcellusbe makes the features and he can't just give it to 1 person and not someone else. But the good thing is that some Roms look better than others and they get updates faster.

I must agree with this observation, too many roms with equal functionalitys, maybe if we have just 2 ou 3 three it would be better for the 5800 community. I think there is a lack of focus, but anyway, i give credit to all rom developers, they now have the knowledge to devel a super rom all together. :-D
on the one side jae, but on the other side no, because everyone is right to present his work, but there are only 3 to 4 big developers, who brought out good Roms
based on JPM,JIT by ARMV and Fugumod OC, no OC, albeit some are DDJP2. The biggest difference is the theme, which can be changed easily.
I'm using Kyrillos's ROM. It's stable for me.

Any idea? Stability + good battery?

YMMV but this was my battery today with the newest samurai kernel tanto

This being covered time and time again in many different posts over many different threads almost warrants no answer but ill give you one and here it is
try them all flash one per day till you find one that works for you the way you like it everyone uses their phone differently so no matter what you will get different results than i do or the next person that post on this
It's really up to you, try them out and see what you like the best. I've tried all 3 kernels currently out right now and they all work pretty good. The two I usually stick with are shadow kernel and the samurai kernel. Shadow kernel is nice and makes everything feel real snappy. You can overclock to 1400 mHz and the battery life for me is good. The newest shadow, tanto, overclocks to 1500 mHz and works with voodoo control. Haven't gotten the chance to really test battery since it just came out but so far it runs pretty good. Just test both of them out, you can always flash over another kernel.

I'm using shadow now and have used apro's too and they both worked great. You need to experiment with them, and you're going to have to tweak to get better battery life. I had several trying to constantly run and none of them were things I use a lot so they had to go. If I wanted super battery life I would have bought a flip phone and not a micromini laptop, and I wouldn't have such a joyful device to tinker with.

Stock is always going to be the best for wanting nothing but the simplicity.
Put it like this when i buy a car, i put bigger tires on my car for grip, and better handling. But i know i will loose some gas mileage but not alot.
I'll put a turbo and some internals into my engine to gain in power but will loose gas.
But if we can put bigger tires and a bigger turbo but still have the same gas results as stock, Then why not do it?
We all benefit in one area and thats why custom kernels are there for those who want options that stock doesn't provide.
Stock= Base Model
Custom = Fully Loaded
Simple as that. So everyone should try different kernels and then reply not saying oh this is the best. But say IMO i prefer this over that simply because of these reasons. Everyone will want a specific kernel because one may like different things about the different kernels
