I was wondering if there we will ever have Amon of recovery instead of CWM...I have always used Amon with the other two Android Devices and never had problems with flashing Rom/kernels, backup's etc, but there seems to be issues with CWM with certain things. I know CWM doesn't play nice with the Eris and I was just wondering if all the issues people are having could possibly be contributed to the recovery
You should ask him. I think he's on xda.

Just Curious. I think I am using "evorecovery". The one that is used to root my phone if that makes sense.
I'm using AA Recovery (Alcoholics Anonymous)
Just kidding
Using the same one as you.

I'm using Amon Ra.
amon-ra here too..
Clockwork because of Rom-Manager
Amron-ra here too, anyone who used the evo recovery img is running Amron unless they changed it to ClockWork after their initial nand unlock.

Forget about what ppl are using. Which one is the best? How easy is it to switch?
Amon RA seems to be suggested as the one to use when others fail. so, i just use it.
it is very easy to install and use.
(by the way... press vol + & - to 'go back one screen'...that seems to really muss folks up)
If you want to do a lot of swapping between different roms, I think Clockwork is the way to go. That being said however, there have benefited some compatability issues with Clockwork and some of the roms. You can find more information in the development forum.

The "Evorecovery" is actually the Amon_RA recovery. Toast took Amon_RA's source and modified it a little and made it the default recovery when you do the Part 2 of the root hack.
I use the same recovery, I prefer Amon_RA's recoveries over all others; but that's just me.
ClockworkMod just because it is default in ROM Manager.
I have Amon RA's Recovery because it was suggested for Fresh & DamageControl to get the 'Themes' to install correctly.
I have Amon Ra's recovery as well.
After putting a new kernel on my device running cm 6 RC1 and supposedly clockworkmod recovery latest, I now do not have a working phone as it stops at the mytouch screen and does not go further, only thing available to use is fastboot which to my dismay, I am having the perfect spl error (remote: not allow), any insight in this problem would be much appreciated.

Just reboot into Clockworkmod Recovery and flash a new rom and the old kernel
Clockwork recovery sometimes doesn't flash correctly through rom manager. Try downloading among RA's recovery and doing "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img". You will need an engineering spl though.

Something went wrong. I don't know why all you new android nubs have to use "clockwork or "sp" recovery. A good ol Recovery image like Amon Ra's latest 1.7.0G works great. Anyway, you didn't brick the device. Just try re-flashing or flashing another rom. (one you know for a fact works) Oh, if you did a nandroid backup, I suggest you restore it. And if you can't get into "clockwork" recovery upon boot. Then I suggest you do what @caedus90 advised and flash Amon RA's recovery through ADB.
Hope this helps. And stop using those idiot friendly recovery alternatives. =P

OMG...I feel so dumb right now...I don't know why I didn't just stick with Amon's recovery...I got curious too and try to use Rom Manager to play around and now I am stuck as well...but my case is a little different in that I cannot get into recovery BUT my phone still boots right into Android like normal...
I flashed Amon's recovery via Rom Manager but still cannot get back into recovery...flashed ClockworkMod recovery but still no recovery...
So advice, please...I think I've learned my lesson and stay with the manual work from now on...lol...I was totally fine with Amon's recovery too...guess my curiosity will kill the cat eventually if I don't wise up...
What's the best way to get recovery back? I have Cyanogen's CM6 on my mt3g 32b...Much thanks for any advice...
UPDATE: Just thought I let you guys know that I was able to get Amon's recovery to work again by keep trying the reflash while in Rom Manager thanks to a tip from another member...Last time I'm touching Rom Manager...It's not a bad program, just us users who are causing problem...
If I recall correctly, as of last night, the ROM Manager version was 2.5.1.4. It showed the latest CW for the Evo to be 2.5.0.1.
When I go to "All ClockworkMod Recoveries", I see 2.5.1.4, 2.5.1.3, 2.5.1.1, 2.5.1.0. These are labeled as older and experimental versions.
I looked around for an official changelog for CW, but haven't found one.
Question is: The 2.5.1.x versions are newer than the 2.5.0.1 that is currently flashed to my phone. Is it recommended to go to one of those? If so, which one?
With some people having issues flashing the latest ROM and/or radio combo, I wonder if the newer CW would help.
Please advise.
Thanks.
Usually it does not matter but some roms require you to have RA Recovery, I have been using it and seems a lot less buggy. If you get rom manager and click flash alternate recovery it will be on there.

I was wondering about that as well. Why do some ROMs *require* RA? What does RA do that CW doesn't? In some cases, I see chefs recommending, but haven't read a specific reason.
I know I can flash RA 1.8x as an alternative, but with more reading, it seems like CW has perhaps an undeserved reputation for being problematic, especially with recent releases. I have also read that CW DOES properly wipe the phone. It was only the earlier versions that had problems.
The question is, 2.5.1.x seem much newer than my 2.5.0.1. I'm thinking about flashing, but wonder what the differences are between those versions.
Thanks.

No ROMs *REQUIRE* Amon_RA recovery, some chef's simple prefer and recommend it. Personally, I use clockwork because of the integration with ROM Manager. It *IS* however a good idea to grab one backup with Amon_RA to backup your wimax partition just in case you happen to lose your RSA keys...

Good recommendation. So one would flash over to RA, run a backup, and then re-flash CW (for ROM Mgr)?
Any info on the different CW versions? What are you running?
Thanks.

ya, just flash the recoveries in ROM Manager. I am running ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1
the latest available Recovery for the Evo is 2.5.0.1, the newer versions listed are for other phones...
personally, I use Clockwork and I've never had any problems with it, I did use AmonRA when I first got the phone, to backup the WiMax keys, and then switched back to Clockwork

Thank you.
I'm having some issues with Fresh ROM 3.5.0.1 and doing Nandroid backups. Simply put, they NEVER WORK.
I have RA recovery and no matter what I do, no matter how many times I backup (Nandroid), no matter what version of RA Recovery I use, nothing works.
Basically what happens is that I do the Nandroid restore and then my phone just boot loops until I pull the battery. The only fix I've found is to wipe the phone and re-install completely fresh, all new. I've tried downloading Fresh ROM a few times too.
I've done this at least a dozen times, Nandroid backups NEVER work.
What exactly am I missing here?
On a side note, if I go to an older version of Fresh Rom, Nandroid backups work.
what version RA?
do clockwork backups work?
I don't like Clockworks, I've always used RA's Recovery.
That said, any version of RA. 1.80, 2.1, 2.2, the new 2.3, all of them. I thought the issue was something to do with 2.2 or 2.3 so I downgraded back to 1.80 and I still have this issue.
Finally I figured out that Fresh Rom 3.5.0.1 was the common factor so I re-downloaded that and checked the hash, it's right so its not corrupted, reflashed, made a Nandroid, restored and poof I'm still boot looping.
The reason this is an issue is that Fresh is my daily Rom and I like to try other roms out then Nandroid back to Fresh but since 3.5.0.1, I can't.
On a side note, completely unrelated, CM7 Nightly with the google apps installed boot loops for me too right out of the box so to speak. Soon as I install the Google Apps zip, it boot loops too! Man, I'm having no luck over here!
have you tried a different sd card?
I'm not personally good enough at this to help you, but perhaps state your hardware version and your root method and see if this might lead to some answers? For the record, I have hardware 0003, I used unrevoked, and I was running the same version of Fresh that you were.
Also, I *think* I did my first Nandroid, but I've only ever backed up/restored from Clockwork. I use Clockwork now because it ties in with Rom Manager. I can confirm that clockwork + fresh 3.5.0.1 had a successful nandroid backup and restore on my phone. Maybe try installing Clockwork recovery, make a nandroid, see if it works, and narrow down your problem to maybe just RA not working with your setup somehow? Granted it'd be nice if you could use the recovery that you want to, but at least you'd have some semblance of a backup procedure.
[also]..... I *think* that RA makes a recovery folder called "nandroid" on the SD card, whereas Clockwork makes one called "clockwork/backups".... I remember this confusing me for a second, and I'm not sure if that information can help you in any way. Good luck man!
Not the only victim, happens to me too that's why I don't use nandroid on amon ra recovery, I like using clockworks back up

Hey Guys,
I'm a newb to rooting and have come across a problem. I rooted using the onetouch method and everything was peachy. Downloaded Mod manager and cyanogen 6.1, but when trying to load it I got stuck on a bootloop. I flashed back to the backup I saved and decided to try amon ra, however I didn't realize that the backups were different. I tried 6.1 again with the same results, however now I don't have a NANDROID backup (but I have the clockwork backup). I've tried loading different kernels to get cyanogen to work and resave the backup by going back through clockwork instead of amon ra. Is this possible and what can I do to get a mod running so I can access the program?
Cheers
