Possibly bricked MyTouch Black non-1.2 - myTouch 3G, Magic General

After putting a new kernel on my device running cm 6 RC1 and supposedly clockworkmod recovery latest, I now do not have a working phone as it stops at the mytouch screen and does not go further, only thing available to use is fastboot which to my dismay, I am having the perfect spl error (remote: not allow), any insight in this problem would be much appreciated.

Just reboot into Clockworkmod Recovery and flash a new rom and the old kernel

Clockwork recovery sometimes doesn't flash correctly through rom manager. Try downloading among RA's recovery and doing "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img". You will need an engineering spl though.

Something went wrong. I don't know why all you new android nubs have to use "clockwork or "sp" recovery. A good ol Recovery image like Amon Ra's latest 1.7.0G works great. Anyway, you didn't brick the device. Just try re-flashing or flashing another rom. (one you know for a fact works) Oh, if you did a nandroid backup, I suggest you restore it. And if you can't get into "clockwork" recovery upon boot. Then I suggest you do what @caedus90 advised and flash Amon RA's recovery through ADB.
Hope this helps. And stop using those idiot friendly recovery alternatives. =P

OMG...I feel so dumb right now...I don't know why I didn't just stick with Amon's recovery...I got curious too and try to use Rom Manager to play around and now I am stuck as well...but my case is a little different in that I cannot get into recovery BUT my phone still boots right into Android like normal...
I flashed Amon's recovery via Rom Manager but still cannot get back into recovery...flashed ClockworkMod recovery but still no recovery...
So advice, please...I think I've learned my lesson and stay with the manual work from now on...lol...I was totally fine with Amon's recovery too...guess my curiosity will kill the cat eventually if I don't wise up...
What's the best way to get recovery back? I have Cyanogen's CM6 on my mt3g 32b...Much thanks for any advice...
UPDATE: Just thought I let you guys know that I was able to get Amon's recovery to work again by keep trying the reflash while in Rom Manager thanks to a tip from another member...Last time I'm touching Rom Manager...It's not a bad program, just us users who are causing problem...

Rooting 32B Magic 'Perfect' SPL, whilst ensuring it can be returned to stock

First, thanks for taking the time to read this. I appreciate that these forums get a lot of frustrating posts with people asking questions that have already been answered, and it is not my intention to do that. I have been lurking on these forums for a while, and have read around quite a bit of information. However, I cannot find the exact answers I am after.
To start, I am now on my 2nd HTC Magic 32B (Voda UK), after I sent my initial phone off for repair. I was running Cyanogen Mod on this phone, and flashed this rom by fastbooting in to Cyanogen's Recovery and going from there.
I was careful to take a nandroid backup before I flashed, and as such, when the time came to said the phone off for repair, I was able to restore the backup and send it off with the stock firmware running.
Unfortunately, the phone I have now received has a 'perfect' SPL, HBOOT-1.33.0007, so I cannot flash a rom using the same method.
My primary concern through all of this, is finding a way to flash roms such that I can revert everything back to normal if the need arises.
I have read around 1-click rooting, so, my proposed method at the moment would be:
1) use Flashrec to boot into Cyanogen Recovery
2) Backup using nandroid
3) using adb shell to flash Cyanogen Recovery
4) use Cyanogen Recovery to flash rom
I should now be in a position where I can a) flash back to the original recovery if needed, using the backup from nandroid, and b) flash back to the original rom if needed, using the backup from nandroid.
Would this work as I hope?
I have read about having to 'downgrade' the SPL when wishing to restore a nandroid backup, but I did not need to previously. What are the circumstances where you do need to? - I would not want to do this, since I have no way of flashing the original SPL back. I presume there is no way to backup my SPL? so I could return to it if need be?
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I appreciate any help you may be able to give me.
Cheers.
I have a Rogers 32A that had a Perfect SPL (1.33.0010) on it and I got a rooted recovery ROM by using One Click Root. The Perfect SPL wasn't allowing me to fastboot at all (giving me a "no access" error or something). So instead I booted running the stock software, and used the one click root program to backup my ROM and then flash a recovery ROM (used the default Cyanogen Recovery 1.4). Then when I rebooted while holding down Power + Home, I came right into my rooted recovery ROM where I could install whatever .zip ROM I wanted (AFTER I BACKED UP WITH NANDROID, of course).
I didn't need to use ADB for anything, and I still ended up with root. So I guess I'm confused when you say you're going to use flashrec to boot into cyanogen recovery and then use adb shell to flash cyanogen recovery. I was under the impresion that flashrec FLASHES cyanogen recovery for you, eliminating the need to use ADB/Fastboot. Assumed "flashrec" stood for "Flash Recovery ROM".
My steps were:
1) Install/run flashrec
2) In FlashRec: Backup your current ROM
3) In FlashRec: Select a new recovery ROM to Flash (has Cyanogen's by default, can change to something on your SD Card)
4) In FlashRec: Flash the Recovery ROM
5) Exit FlashRec and reboot into Recovery Mode (Hold Home and Power)
6) You're done, you have a rooted phone. Go ahead and Nandroid a backup, wipe your data, and install a new ROM.
Thanks for your reply.
It is my understanding that flashrec does not flash the recovery rom, but just allows you to boot to it. (Similar to the fastboot boot filename.img command). I would guess that if you reboot your phone using home + power now, that it would boot to the standard recovery.
If it is the case that flashrec does flash the recovery image, then that would be handy, and presumably the backup could be restored using either nandroid or adb.
Thanks, this clarifies that my rooting procedure is along the right lines, however I am still concerned whether flashing everything back to normal will go as I expect.
Just booted into recovery, and its still CyanogenMod v1.4 + JF.
I'm trying to think if I did anything special during my rooting efforts. I don't think I did. I know that I flashrec'd twice. the First was with Amon_Ra's recovery console, and then I did it again a bit later with Cyanogen's. But I'm positive I was never able to successfully use adb's fastboot command due to my perfected SPL.
And you're right, I didn't address your concerns about unrooting at a later date. I assume that is what you're doing when you use flashrec to create a backup of the stock Recovery ROM, but i'm not positive.

EVERY TIME YOU REBOOT YOUR PHONE INTO NORMAL ANDROID IT UNDOES WHAT YOU JUST DID. Every time android boots, it reflashes the recovery partition with the default one from a file stored in your phone. For safety reasons, we are not replacing this file – just flashing the partition directly. So if you boot to recovery mode, then boot back into your normal mode, and then boot back into recovery mode – you will see a triangle with an exclamation point and only 3 options.

So I'm not sure what's going on.
Thanks for your input. I think I'm nearing enough confidence to go ahead and give this a try. Probably tomorrow.
Hi ParanoiaPersonified - can you post an update when you flash? I also have a new Voda Magic with the same SPL as yourself.....I got the OTA upgrade to Donut yesterday which I may have been silly about accepting.
I wasn't too impressed with the speed improvements in Donut and now want to flash something built by one of the XDA chefs, but am having problems rooting with the traditional methods - even 1 click doesn't seem to work....
Cheers.
It is my understanding that one-click-root only works on 1.5, and the exploit that it uses is patched in 1.6. I think you may need to use the 'gold card' method, radita.
I've realised that my handset has a fault (the scrollwheel does not work when scrolling to the right), so I will be unfortunately waiting for a replacement handset before taking any of the steps mentioned above.
Hopefully the replacement does come with 1.6 pre-installed!
"Gold card" method looks a little more involved....guess I don't have a choice though.
Thanks.

Using flash_image to upgrade recovery partition failed... now what?

Hello folks,
First time poster here, first time I haven't been able to find a fix already posted...
Anyway, I wanted to try out the new Cyanogen mod after not having tried any new ROMs in a long time. Got 5.0.7 installed and running no problem. Then I noticed on the Cyanogen Mod site that there was also a Cyanogen recovery image. "Might as well have everything from the same source," I thought. I got the file, put it on the SD card, and used the terminal on the phone to execute "flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-recovery-1.4.img," then tried rebooting into recovery mode. No good. Just get hung up at the "myTouch 3g" screen. At this point, I thought I was well and screwed, but fortunately I'm still able to boot normally.
Tried reflashing the same image, then other recovery partition images. No dice. Where do I go from here? I'm used to fixing stuff I've screwed up through the recovery partition, not the other way around!
I appreciate any help or advice!
Sincerely,
Tom
hey tom,
this will fix you up:
install "rom manager" from the market
flash his recovery image (theres in option for that)
then look for the option that lets you flash Amon Ra 1.7.0
let it load, power off & then check.
trust me this is bound to fix your problem.

Help me fix my recovery pretty please

Howdy folks,
Here's the background:
I have a MT3G have been using cyanogen 5.08 with Amon Ra 1.7. I was messing around all day yesterday trying to get the CM 6.0 RC1 to install. Which I finally did after much blood sweat and tears. After I booted into the ROM I realized that some of my GAPPS were missing so I figured I just reflash the package from the recovery. Only problem is when I tried to restart into recovery it would hanging on the MT3G load screen. Won't boot to recovery. Won't boot into the ROM. I can boot into fastboot. But I have almost no experience using fastboot to reflash a recovery.
I have read a little bit about how to use adb, the sdk, and fastboot some. But I'm still pretty confused.
I read on these forums somewhere that to flash a recovery with fastboot you have to install the engineering spl. (I don't really even know what this is.) And I don't even know which spl my phone has now.
I will personally make sweet sweet love to you or anyone you please if you can help me sort this out. Thanks so much.

[Q] myTouch 4G Recovery Issues! Please Help!

I checked through 100s of post tonight and could not find the answer to this and am in need of some help. I attempted to install a Cyanogen Nightly tonight through Rom Manager with no prior knowlege of the issues with CW 2.5 vs. CW 3.0. Stupid I know.
So natuaraly, when the download finished and Rom Manager tried to install, my MT4G just hung at the white boot screen. Through previous posts, the directions were simple to reflash the previous CW Recovery through Fastboot and reflash the Rom.
Well thats where the problem is.... When I attempt to flash ANY Rom earlier than 3.0.0.5, it will say OKAY in CMD, however the phone will never boot into the Recovery. I even tried fastboot erase recovery then reinstalled and still nothing.
So i decided to go a different root and reinstalled 3.0.0.5 to see if there was any work around through there. After i install 3.0 through Fastboot, I am able to go into Recovery, however when I select ANY option no matter what, the hat and the gear icon stay in the background and nothing happens.
I am very confused and lost and am hoping someone here will have had the same issue and can help me get my phone back in order.
Thanks in advance guys!

I havent had that issue exactly, but I might be able to help wlk you through getting this fixed. Ive had problems more than once myself on recovery, and helped a couple others solve other issues on here. If you want, add me on google talk (same username as on xda), and Ill walk you through it. Might have to wait till the morning, though, as Im probably gonna head to bed soon.
Fastboot 2.5 recovery and reflash froyo rom. If you decide to install CM7 again - read, search and make sure that you understand what you're doing. It has been stated at least few dozen times that Rom Manager is useless with gingerbread until Koush updates it.
Same Issue??
I believe my issue sounds similar.
I tried to go from Iced Glacier up to CM7. When I did I attempted to use the Clockwork Recovery 2.5 and of course it didn't work. Then I tried to upgrade it to 3.0.0.5. Now when I try to reboot into Clockwork recovery the phone just stays on the MyTouch 4G splash screen. The only way to get around it is use the Power/Volume down button and click on FASTBOOT and then select REBOOT.
The phone then boots in Iced Glacier. I have redownloaded ROM Manager and attempted to FLASH CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY. But it still won't load into recovery.
Essentially I need some step by step help to get back to clockworkmod recovery. I'm not too worried if I need to wipe everything. Just looking for the ability to restore again.
Alternatively I'm interested in upgrading to CM7 but not sure how I could do that without recovery working. I would also ask if you can give step by step instructions it would be much appreciated as I'm still pretty new to this.
Thanks!
I also have the similar problem. I have installed the Clockworkmod 3.0.0.5 and have rooted my phone before i was trying to install the gingerbread version. I made a recovery backup. i tried to restore the phone with that backup image but it still hung up with that "t-mobile mytouch " white splash screen.
What should i do now ? i have no idea how to bring my phone back to life :/

Sounds like both of you should of never of done this. This has been discussed a few times, and the end result is always the same.....
Download the correct Recovery image (which can be found in the Development section) and install it to your phone by using the ADB commands, in the fastboot mode. you can find a quick and painless way to set those up in my signature. Once you have installed the recovery image you can boot into hBoot and select recovery. from there you can flash CM7 and the gapps. Once you have done all that download the official clockwork ROM manager from the market and flash his current recovery image.

Can't access CWR after MeDroid ICS Install?

Hey all, after intall MeDroid ICS ROM, I can no longer access CWR, only white Recovery screen. When I choose recovery, it says reboots into itself. I don't have a lot of experience with Blackrose or ICS, but I just want to get back to CM7 or MIUI, how can I get back into Clockwork Recovery?
Thanks,
Matt
you probably lost your recovery, happened to me twice
I had to flash new one thru fastboot--one time had to erase system thru fastboot first then flash recovery
try amon ra 2.2.1 instaed of cwr
dl it to pc and fastboot flash it
Thanks! What is the command for fastboot install?
Reflashed from inside clockwork, thanks!
Glad you got it--missed first post after mine
I would keep Nandroids, as I said I lost recovery twice. But, using AR had to fastboot new one. No big deal.
