like to try it, but alas.....no dice.

Sweet! I'll definitely watch this for feedback and then probably flash it later today. HSUPA is working for you? On the other roms in this forum with HSUPA I've had varied experiences. My upload speeds in particular were really inconsistent.
EDIT: Yeah, 404...I guess I won't be dl'ing it right now. Get that fixed, please? I'll put up a mirror if I have time.

It's um.... very grey

Dropbox link 404'd.

ya its still uploading..i literally just put it in there when i posted this..it should be done uploading soon

yep 404 'd... am looking foreward to trying this though

Must've finished uploading, because it's downloading just fine for me now!

ok its done and ready for upload..sorry about that wait. dropbox takes forever for me for some reason.

tried it already but without reoriented kernel. I thought that if this has the voodoo lagfix it won't work with reoriented as that one is not patched for ext3/4 (if someone knows something else please tell me).
it was pretty fast and the theme is pretty nice.one of the nicest i've used.

your right voodoo will not work with reorient. i didnt want to use the kernal that came with it because i didnt want it to cause any problems with buttons and recovery and all that. so with the reorient kernal everything works, can still get into recovery and download with regular button combo, but voodoo does not work yet until excaliberinhand puts it in his kernal

the usual....how is the bluetooth on this?

ok ill give it a try again

yes, please confirm, is Bluetooth 100% ?

And 850 band voice and data?
They never seen to quirk right in hsupa.

dont know since i dont use bluetooth at all. check the reorient kernal thread since that what you would be using. but i think this is the same kernal being used in dg's cog 8.1 and i think it said on his download page that this kernal does have some kind of problems with wired bluetooth controls.

yes its the jpm modem which i have found to be the best out of all of them
i just checked and it has every gsm 850 900 dcs 1800 pcs 1900 wcdma 2100 1900 900 and wcdma 850 you have to dial *#2263# then select COMBI the put a check next to wcdma 850 then menu and back..this will enable the 1 band that is not by default all the rest are already enabled.

Any screenshots. that would be nice.

Mixing KB1 Phone.apk and JS3 Phone.apk for Network Operators?

As some of you know, all Captivate ROMs are Flawed by AT&T, but have Audience chip.
If not my passion to use all the features of the device i have, i would go to JS3, or some other ROM.
But I need a feature to Select 2G, 2G/3G, 3G modes in Settings -> Wireless and Network -> Mobile Networks -> Network Operators.
Can anyone teach me how to mix APKs or can do this for me?
I am already looking to differences in de-compiled APKs, but i see i might, and will, make errors.
Also i feel like i have a bad knowledge about Signing process of APKs....
Anyone to help?
Good luck with that. Really not sure how that works or if it works at all. But you can use this program to sign your apks's with. Hope that helps.

Anyone ever tried to edit phone.apk smali's for normal network selection screen?
Mix them. See what you get. Don't forget to include PhoneUtil.apk as well. If it doesn't work then you ll most probably need framework change and audio libs replaced too. But if the audio libs are not compatible with the rest of the system then... theres not much you can do. Why don't you just wait till the audience driver is implemented in i9000 kernels/roms?
Why don't wanna wait? Cos it requires not only porting a kernel, but also modding Phone*.apk and libs too to i9000 rom

A lot of us are anxiously awaiting for this but I'm not sure how much effort is actually being made for it. If I were a DEV it would probably be number one for me now as IMO this will be a huge accomplishment. I know icezar definitely has the smarts to do it. But people not is the USA that has never experianced the chip's call quality do not know what they are missing.

No, the fact that it is only available on the AT&T version of the captivate.
Hm... Okay, but why people HERE using the captivate don't wanna port those features to i9000 roms?
First, in order to get the audience chip to work you must use the KB1 modem.
First and foremost, that kills HSUPA, which in my opinion helps data to the point of screw the audience chip.
But, to continue, if you use a KB1 Modem / kernel with an i9000 ROM, the audience chip is enabled by default, and will function you just cannot turn it off. Since the software for i9000 is unaware of this feature the kernel never turns it off, thus the modem uses it and you get the benefit, but with NO HSUPA.
So I suppose the bottom line is that if you want that audience chip, you may as well stick with stock or simply use cognition. Cog is the best of both worlds imo, as far as "fixed from ATT stock broken" and added features.
For me, I dismissed the audience chip long ago in favor of HSUPA..
but with NO HSUPA.

i would say if you flash the defy cm7 gingerbread it wont work but worse case scenario is you have to sbf and maybe wipe data. so do a nandroid backup first.
let us know what happens, the phones are similiar enough that it might load but stuff probably wont work.
or if ur nervous wait for me to try, i was going to try it for the hell of it.
i wouldnt try anything other than stuff for the defy though.
crazy question...but it possible to port it? Still just grasping some knowledge for myself...
If I get some time this weekend, I'll give it a shot and report back here. I've been crazy busy lately, a little testing might be the perfect distraction.
Any Updates? :]
IMPORTANT!
The cm7 port for the defy includes a boot.img which means it will brick your device for sure. dont flash it.
its gotta be a stock boot.img i think, but tis for the defy.
Thanks for that. Do we have a boot.img for Bravo?
Would I be incorrect if I said, you can use the one that is backed up inside you're clock work mod backup?

I think we have a reasonably decent chance at this..
it looks as if we will definitely have to work some magic on the camera, as the defy has the 5MP and ours has the 3MP.
Also, probably other minor stuff, APN, etc.
I have the rom downloaded,
bandroidx,
how can we repackage the *.zip with our boot.img file, and then i guess sign it or whatever so we can test it on the bravo?
I would really love to get some of the 'advanced system info' from Quadrant, on the Defy. this way, we can kind of take a better look at some of the hardware and setting differences.
Lmk what you think.

I thought that that was the other way around: AT&T wasn't going to release an update, but Motorola pushed them to do so because it was more popular than expected.
Eh... that's what my source said. Either way, 2.3 most likely wont make an official appearance on the Bravo.

Yeah, I highly doubt it, too. With how much effort it took just for FroYo to be released, it's probably not going to happen for any other updates, unfortunately.

Best modem for Europe @CM7 ?

I have CM7 Nightly #42 and I'm looking for the best modem for Europe, Germany mainly. I can't get 3G to work with JVP/JVQ. Would be nice if it's easy on battery, too.
Any suggestions?

I don't use the widget. I keep 3G on in the settings, but all I get is H/3G flashing on status bar from time to time with H staying there for good.
Since "H" is better form of "3G", it looks ok.

{Trick} Get Around "RAT SELECTION RESTRICTED" on i897 modems!

First off i need to thank Xda user KevL for putting me on the first step in the right direction to getting here! Thanks!!!
For any one using and running i897 modem for the love of audience chip support on their device and also need band selection to lock 850 band, this thread is for you!!!
I first started using i9000 modem kernal combos just for the band selection ability.
After AdamHolden85 Allowed me to continue development on his KB1 Fusion rom i started a mission to unlock the "Rat". I gathered much information from users that suffered from "Rat". (weird that some users with i897 modems installed don't have this restriction, but most do)
Some may ask "What is "Rat"?"
dial *#2263# on your captivate while running a i897 modem and you get:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
but what you are after is:
So lets get to it shall we!
This is really more of a security loop hole!!
1=Remove the simcard from your phone with out removing battery!
(use your nail to lift the edge of the card over the battery lip)
2=dial *#2263# and you will first get "RAT", wait for this pop up!
3=hit "OK" and dial *#2263#, and now you are in!!
4=select the bands you wish to use
5=Menu hard key to get popup here and select end!
6=place device into airplane mode!!
7=reinsert your sim with out removing battery!!
8=Turn off airplane mode and watch cell bars grow and data to connect in your status bar.
9=Dail in *#0011# and check for your self!!
May work on other band selection RAT modems, I only can confirm JH7,JH6,JI6,KB1,and KF1!

This does not effect data speeds because this has nothing to do with HSDPA/HSUPA/HSPA+. That is dependent on something written within the modem that XDA is yet to learn about. (no one seems to wanna touch the modems, in part because they are heavy with proprietary code for things like the bluetooth chip and the GPS chip. proprietary = closed source and a PITA to mod) Tho using GSM = 2G and WCDMA = 3G, so be careful about which 850 or 1900 band you are choosing.

And the same bugs with using a I9000 kernal aply, no buetooth, is that corect?
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
This does not allow for mismatch with kernels, as that is HW communication dependent. Your kernel talking in a 1234 pattern and your modem talking in a 4321 has NOTHING to do with RAT or the band/frequency that your phone it trying to speak to the antenna with.
3.
I have tried this a couple times and it doesn't seem to work for me. RAT is still restricted at the main menu.

This does not remove RAT, it gives us a means to work around it. At this point we still don't even know what triggers RAT as some I897 users have shown to not have such restrictions. Until we have figured that out we can't kill RAT, tho we do know it is something within the I897 aka AT&T modems.

Settings may get dropped on reboot, sry but for now this is only a change held in the RAM.
Other things to note:
Phone stays on and running the whole time. The most time consuming part of this is waiting for the phone to realize the removal/insertion of the sim card.
-SGS Tools / nitrality- apps have the "secret/service codes" to speeds up and or ease the process.
No love for WCDMA 900... even on fully auto that lone band is unused.
Folks, follow the instructions exact, and take your time. I tried toying around and skipping = not successful.
Lastly you can't seem to force it to run an unsupported band (like I did with the WCDMA 900), it will eventually seek its way into service again. Keep in mind that having RAT means we have limited control over this aspect of the phone.
Also, LOL that I can force it to use GSM and only have edge data
Awesome !! And big thanks for this Johnsondr80 !! And a thanks to KevL also !!

Also the 850 Band travels better so you'll see stronger signal more often. Should also give better call quality, tho I'm not 100% on that part.

Yep, I897 modem is still hsdpa only. Yep, does not add any new kernel compatibility. Yep, does allow for band selection (tho still not a easily as those without RAT)
So, it is mainly useful for devs / testers, and ppl who have dumb phones that love using 1900 band during heavy traffic and/or low signal.

This does not remove RAT. As Johnsondr sneaks in there "This is really more of a security loop hole!!" In that you can enter the menu with the sim card out and lock in the phone to use your band of choice. When you put the sim back in it stays locked in.
Annoying yes, but at least we now have a means of changing the band when service is generally crappy.

did this a couple more times to make sure I went through the steps correctly and both times when going back to the menu to see what band it was on I watched it go from 850 back to 1900. This was without a reboot or any button pushes. I hope we can find something that will work consistantly.

With this modem I get very bad band switching while travelling, I think the DCS 1800 is not being used when necessary.
I am in Italy so we use:
GSM 900
DCS 1800
WCDMA 2100
Forced to go back to UGKG3.
GPS was very good.
Any help appreciated.
