I have CM7 Nightly #42 and I'm looking for the best modem for Europe, Germany mainly. I can't get 3G to work with JVP/JVQ. Would be nice if it's easy on battery, too.
Any suggestions?

I am using JVO. For the 2g/3g toggle to work wait for the next nightlie. This issue has been resolved
http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#change,6773
http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=galaxysmtd
Great news that it finally has been resolved! I miss Cyanogen (used it on my G1 sold 10 months ago, but now I'm on stock Samsung ROM), maybe it's time to do the switch.
Italy For what is the best modem? I thank you in advance CM7 "Italy 3"
I'm on #61 and still no 3G... Nothing in release notes of #62 indicating any improvement. Perhaps I should flash JVK modem back?

You can have 3G only by using the settings menu and not the widget
I don't use the widget. I keep 3G on in the settings, but all I get is H/3G flashing on status bar from time to time with H staying there for good.
Since "H" is better form of "3G", it looks ok.
ugh... I'm turning red now, good you can't see it... THANKS!

H stands for: HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps
Basically means that you have access to high speed internet on your phone.
ok, ok, I got it the first time... please do not kick me anymore, I'm laying on the floor already...

Hey guys,
I was hoping I could tap your brains for some EVO knowledge. I've been rocking CM7 for awhile now and love it. The only "problem" seems to be how it handles the 4g connection. It seems like it will either use 4g OR 3g and if I turn on 4g but there is no coverage (or it drops out) it does not immediately default to 3g. I know on Sense roms that when 4g stopped, 3g kicked in. Has anybody else seen this?
I find 4G on CM7 more unstable than on sense when I use it. It's hard to keep a connection and seems to take longer to connect. One of the reasons I recently switched back to a sense rom.

I've actually experienced the opposite.
I could barely use 4G on any Sense ROM. It would spike my CPU at 100% (even after full wipes), it would disconnect and take forever to reconnect.
Since moving to CM7, 4G connections really quick and usually stays established with no problems.

Where are you reading that they updated 4G codes? Their changelog only says they changed a notifications bug and also a security hole.

They updated the code but I just realized it's only on the nightly. There is a problem with the nightly where mms wont download, so if mms is important, don't flash it yet

That's going to be in 7.1.
I've found WiMax on CM7 to be about the same as on Sense, which is to say it's flaky on both. I don't think it's really the phone or the ROM's fault. Sprint/Clear just hasn't built a strong enough 4G network to provide a good experience. Any time it constantly has to switch back and forth (which is going to be the case with the high frequencies they're running at and insufficient power or tower density to compensate), the experience won't be very satisfying.

I too am interested in this topic
I was using cm7 for a little bit...4g in chicago was slowwww to connect if it did at all...i just switched to virus's gingersense b3 and it is awesome...waiting on his kingdome port with sense 3.0 sometime tonight
i think it's pretty expected that two unpaid coders won't make as good of a code than a multi-billion/million/lotta$$$ corp can. amazing work either way though. that said, try one of the cm7.1 nightlys (any #60+ nightly, not counting stable 7.0.3, that's still 2.3.3) as the new android 2.3.4 has google's own 4g wimax coding in it.
Waiting to download the Kingdom ROM from XxXViRuSXxX. Apparently 4g works great and it has the new Sense 3.0, which is beautiful! It won't be bug free but I plan on jumping in and helping out and soon it will be a daily driver
What is cm7?
Hi,
I have started this thread as I haven't seen any discussion forum which gives us a review on the modems being used in India.
I have tested quite a lots of modems and here are my reviews on each of them.
1. JW4 - battery life was good, lots of drops in network
2. KB3 - battery was draining like a hell in 3-4 hours almost 60-70%
3. KF1, ZSJPG, JVT- all are balancing the battery life and good network speed
4. BUJP5 - currently testing since yesterday night, amazing network speed and good battery life.
I have tested all the modems being on ICS and using them on 3g almost whole day and remaining being on WiFi.
If anyone of you came across any new modem, please post the link of the same and I will try to use it provide you the review for it (no ETA please)
Location - Mumbai
Network - Vodafone/Reliance
Thanks to RITZYtheDEVIL for the suggestion
Lets do it in a professional way and this information will be helpful for new members coming over xda from India.
Install the app 'Network Signal Info'.
Open the app and press Menu key -> Log Mobile -> Log every 10 seconds -> Enable log file.
Press Menu key -> Screen Timeout -> 5 Minutes.
Now you have to keep your phone like this for 5 Minutes. make sure the screen stays awake and DO NOT TRY TO CLOSE/MINIMIZE THE APP. Keep it in foreground.
During these 5 Minutes it is advisable that you walk around a little bit with your phone, go into different rooms and if possible even go out of your house. Basically, don't keep standing at one place.
Press Back key -> 'YES' to exit.
Now connect your phone to PC -> in internal SD card go to folder "NetworkSignal" -> open the file in 'MS Excel'.
Enter your information in the form by 'Open Form'
If you want to view/copy all the responses in a spreadsheet then 'Open Responses'
The Google doc linked above is public and it will stay there forever, so don't worry about it. Please help make the list grow.
Kindly have a try on JVU
Provide me the link for it...

Can you please mention your location and network (in OP) as performance is network and location dependent.
Also if possible can you test with more than one networks ?

You seem to have covered quite a few modems. Thank you for that. I've tried a few myself and am tempted to recommend that you try XXJVU. I've experienced excellent battery backup and network connectivity with it.

Did you tried it on ics as the link you provided is on custom rom 2.3.6

UCKF1 — Signal ranges between -70 dBm to -85 dBm. Battery life good.
DDJV5 — -60 dBm to -80 dBm. Battery life good.
XXJVU — -50 dBm to -80 dBm. Excellent Battery Life. Best modem in my opinion.
XXJVT — Same as XXJVU.
I have noticed the XX series so far has given the best signal reception and battery life.
Please note, if you are using a 3G network in India, signal reception would be average everywhere. And the signal would keep fluctuating between 3G and 2G. Hence, hardly all 5 bars.
The above readings have been done on 2G network mode.
A very important thing:
Most people think the modem is the primary drainer of the battery. It's NOT. You have to use a good kernel too. I have used a variety of kernels on CM9 and have figured out that Semaphore is the best kernel. Devil3 is the next. Stock kernel sucks for battery life.

Just take the note of one which you are using right now by going to settings-> About Phone -> Baseband version.
Whenever you want to go back just flash the appropriate modem version by downloading.

Thanks mate for the above link however I think we are aware of those modems and few of them are not going to work in India and few are from old firmwares.
I am only trying those which are newer as there is no point in testing old firmwares which are already outdated.
Hope this makes sense...

No, I haven't tried XXJVU modem with an ICS rom. When I was using an ICS rom, I went with the default modem that came with it. Never did experiment much with custom rom's.
Edit: Apurv24's post carries the link to it - XXJVU - the 2nd one; appears to be listed under ICS. I'm not sure about the risks and compatibility either.
No prob i will give it a try.

So far I have noticed XXJVU gives the best signal reception almost all over India. I'm from Pune.
I have traveled and used my SGS with ICS and XXJVU all over India(North, East and South) apart from my home town Pune and have got excellent signal reception (-50 dBm to -75 dBm).
Please note that this is over a 2G network of Vodafone. I also have a 3G plan but when I shift to the 3G networks the signal reception starts fluctuating and gives a horrible 1 or 2 bars.
If you are going to use 3G networks in India, you will face issues with signal reception. Most cities in India have horrible 3G connectivity—metros included.
All in all, XXJVU gives me excellent 2G coverage all over India on my SGS i9000 with ICS and Semaphore kernel.
Battery usage is decided by a lot of factors apart from the modem—Kernel plays a major role in battery usage too.

I've been using 84-33 hybrid modem and it seems to be pretty stable.
Hi,
I'm running the userdebug build from this thread. Now I wonder how to check whether LTE works? Should there be an "L" somewhere? I can only see the "H+" for HDSPA+. With the Samsung Firmware there's a big "L" when LTE is available.
Ok, I have selected preferred network = LTE in the system settings. According to this FAQ (hXXp://cyanogenmodlog.wordpress.com/faq/) it should show "4G" which it doesn't.
So I figure it doesn't work
ok, so it does show "LTE" when I move around the area a bit. Apparently the area is not fully covered here.
so everything's good

Does LTE work for you?
Hi, so today I have installed CM12.1 unofficial on my S5. I loved the rom, everything was perfect but I couldn't get LTE working. My Note 4 (N910c) gets 2 bars of indication in the same room, speed is 20mbs+. When I launch mobile data on S5, it takes long to estabilish connection, then only gets H+, and after several seconds it drops to 3G What can I do? CM is blazing fast compared to stock ROMs, but I can't imagine myself using 3G to YT/web etc... Help please! I have the newest modem/bl (BOC7).
I'm sure you've already checked your APN settings to be what your carrier advises. If not that is something to start with.
If you're on att,
Also look into your build.prop to add in/modify the following accordingly:
ro.product.model=SAMSUNG-SM-G900A
ro.product.name=klteuc
ro.product.device=klteatt

I am not ATT, i'm from Poland so Soo.. weird situation today. I've been in city centre where LTE signal is pretty good. For like 3-4h it was constantly switching between 3G/H/H+, and suddenly it caught LTE. Now I am at home and it still connects to LTE, 2 bars just like in Note 4. I am pretty confused now. It seems that modem/kernel/APN are all right, maybe a kind of system trigger that "stabilizes" the signal? 3G/H+ has 5 bars here, LTE only 2. I have already put a tick to "LTE (preffered) in network options. How about this?
EDIT
Rebooted the phone, again, no LTE
Wow that is cool! I remember my CM12 used to constantly wobble between H/H+ and once I finally gave up messing with it and screen turned off for 15-20 minutes, I'd turn the screen back on and find myself on a 4G LTE signal (feeling great). Once I made a call it drops to 3G, which is normal, but after I'd hang up it wouldn't necessarily switch back to 4G any time soon.
So I gave edgarf28's XtreStoLite a shot and haven't looked back since! It is touchwiz based, but it is light, debloated, lighting fast, and it just works. I'm on XtreStoLite 2.1, and I have no complains at all.
I have the same problem on a SM-G900T running on AT&T. After every reboot can only get H/H+ leave it alone and will grab LTE 10 to 40 mins after the screen is off. Leave the screen on and won't grab LTE. And of course make a phone call you lose LTE connection. And how long it takes to get back is very random. I can't find a solution to this and got a G900T so I can run AOSP. I was tired of touchwiz and trying to get themed apps and dialers. now I am screwed I wish I could find a solution to this.
No 3g but have lte
I know this is probably in the wrong spot so I'm sorry.
I just clean flashed my sm-g900r4 to cm12.1 cyan ROM 20150428
I have working lte data but no 3g, so when I move out of lte area the signal icon just shows an exclamation point, any help would be greatly appreciated.
The way I fixed mine was by removing all apn entries I didn't need. This caused the search for LTE to speed up no issues since

I really don't know why the development stopped for klteusc, but if I were to guess, I'd guess it is probably covered under another variant.
For example, since klteusc is a cdma phone I won't be surprised to see US cellular CM getting absorbed into kltespr development. But this is just a hypothetical scenario because I couldn't find any proof. But it is worth looking into if anyone is talking about it online.
