Can't get LTE working on CM12.1 - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, so today I have installed CM12.1 unofficial on my S5. I loved the rom, everything was perfect but I couldn't get LTE working. My Note 4 (N910c) gets 2 bars of indication in the same room, speed is 20mbs+. When I launch mobile data on S5, it takes long to estabilish connection, then only gets H+, and after several seconds it drops to 3G What can I do? CM is blazing fast compared to stock ROMs, but I can't imagine myself using 3G to YT/web etc... Help please! I have the newest modem/bl (BOC7).

I'm sure you've already checked your APN settings to be what your carrier advises. If not that is something to start with.
If you're on att,
Also look into your build.prop to add in/modify the following accordingly:
ro.product.model=SAMSUNG-SM-G900A
ro.product.name=klteuc
ro.product.device=klteatt

I am not ATT, i'm from Poland so Soo.. weird situation today. I've been in city centre where LTE signal is pretty good. For like 3-4h it was constantly switching between 3G/H/H+, and suddenly it caught LTE. Now I am at home and it still connects to LTE, 2 bars just like in Note 4. I am pretty confused now. It seems that modem/kernel/APN are all right, maybe a kind of system trigger that "stabilizes" the signal? 3G/H+ has 5 bars here, LTE only 2. I have already put a tick to "LTE (preffered) in network options. How about this?
EDIT
Rebooted the phone, again, no LTE

Wow that is cool! I remember my CM12 used to constantly wobble between H/H+ and once I finally gave up messing with it and screen turned off for 15-20 minutes, I'd turn the screen back on and find myself on a 4G LTE signal (feeling great). Once I made a call it drops to 3G, which is normal, but after I'd hang up it wouldn't necessarily switch back to 4G any time soon.
So I gave edgarf28's XtreStoLite a shot and haven't looked back since! It is touchwiz based, but it is light, debloated, lighting fast, and it just works. I'm on XtreStoLite 2.1, and I have no complains at all.

I have the same problem on a SM-G900T running on AT&T. After every reboot can only get H/H+ leave it alone and will grab LTE 10 to 40 mins after the screen is off. Leave the screen on and won't grab LTE. And of course make a phone call you lose LTE connection. And how long it takes to get back is very random. I can't find a solution to this and got a G900T so I can run AOSP. I was tired of touchwiz and trying to get themed apps and dialers. now I am screwed I wish I could find a solution to this.

No 3g but have lte
I know this is probably in the wrong spot so I'm sorry.
I just clean flashed my sm-g900r4 to cm12.1 cyan ROM 20150428
I have working lte data but no 3g, so when I move out of lte area the signal icon just shows an exclamation point, any help would be greatly appreciated.

The way I fixed mine was by removing all apn entries I didn't need. This caused the search for LTE to speed up no issues since

Why not upgrade to the latest CM12.1? I am on the October one and all the network issues are resolved.

I really don't know why the development stopped for klteusc, but if I were to guess, I'd guess it is probably covered under another variant.
For example, since klteusc is a cdma phone I won't be surprised to see US cellular CM getting absorbed into kltespr development. But this is just a hypothetical scenario because I couldn't find any proof. But it is worth looking into if anyone is talking about it online.

Good signal strength but Internet not working?

This is perhaps the biggest issue plaguing my phone.
I'm getting intermittent periods of the above mentioned, when my signal strength indictor is good and it's showing that I'm either on 3G or H+, but whatever I'm on doesn't seem to load. Browser, Reddit is Fun, XDA app or even Whatsapp. In the same areas my Galaxy S2 consistently loads data while my Nexus 4 seems to just sit there doing nothing. Anyone have any ideas on what's the cause of this?
PS: I tried looking for some sort of email to contact Google and possibly send it back, but strangely I can't find anything!
Not sure what your issue is but its easy to contact Google.
Go to the play store on a PC ( could do it on a browser from your phone as well ) and go down to the bottom of the page and find my orders and settings. From there all your apps and devices show up. Go the the nexus 4 and help. From there you should find all the ways to contact Google.

Do you have the same issues while on wifi? If you do then I would think it was an issue with the phone, if not then there's something wrong with your service plan apn settings. Are you sure you set your service plan up correctly in the phone's settings?

My device doesn't even show up on that list I think I'm gonna try to use a VPN to spoof my location and see if I can get the contact email. I suspect contact emails aren't showing up because my country is not one of the official countries where the device is launched in.

The phone works perfectly fine on Wi-Fi. As for the APN settings, that has occured to me but as I understand it they are loaded on my SIM card by my provider and I'm pretty sure they are correct.
Looks like I'm gonna have to send it back somehow. I'm hoping it's a software issue that can get fixed relatively easily.

Are you with TMobile? I had a similar issue and I called up TMobile tech support and they reprovisioned/reprogrammed my data and while I've still had some data dropouts, they're not nearly as frequent as before.
Are you sure it's not your APN? I had a similar issue and assumed the APNs would be right from my provider. I looked them up online and entered a new APN. That fixed it for me.

I will check it again, but then if my APN was wrongly configured I think my mobile data won't work 100% of the time right?
I'm having this exact same problem but only in one specific location.
My signal on Tmo is good everywhere. The bars show medium to full strength and that is backed up by the reported metrics in Phone Info and Settings. However data is next to unusable at my office near Times Square. I only get "bursts" of data and if I try to use the browser, refresh mail, open Twitter, check FB, etc, the connection times out. At home, around Manhattan, and around the country Tmo gives me great HSPA+ speeds. I have checked my APN settings and they are corect.
Any thoughts?

Sounds pretty much like what I was experiencing. I see that the latest few CM10.1 nightlies have several HSPA commits. I'm gonna give the latest nightly a go and see if it helps. Was on CodeFireX BR10.1 during all these.
Edit: Observing the behavior of my signal icon, it seems that it idles at 3G. If I touch a link or initiate any action that loads data, it stays on 3G for a while before switching to H or H+. I'm wondering if the problem lies during this "transition" period.
Edit2: 5 minutes into the 13122012 nightly, I'm noticing that the phone stays on H+ much longer and the transition from 3G to H+ is much faster now. Will monitor and report back!
Just an update: After one day of usage I can safely say the problem is gone. Flashing to the 13122012 nightly of CM10.1 fixed it. I'm not sure what particular commit fixed it though.
Anyway, the configuration of my phone when the problem occured was CodeFireX BR10.1 and franco r13. I'm currently on CM10.1 13122012 and franco r14.

Same thing here. I have a rma unit coming in a few minutes or so, and I'll test it out. This happens to me around Midtown as well. The data speeds in Manhattan are at a crawl though around peak but that doesn't explain why it stops downloading data when there is full service and a stable data connection.

OK so I have the RMA unit in hand and it looks like its been used before but I can't really tell. The reason is because the screen protectors are off and there's no little part to grab and remove it. And the screen had looked like it had been wiped before.
Other than that, its running 4.2 and the data seems stable for now. Still need to test with something else.

I'm having the same issue on Solavei (Tmobile) in NY im getting horrendous data speeds lik ping around 70ms-800ms Download speeds at .09mbps - .14mbps and even worse upload speeds... Im all stock and called them up they said long island and Manhattan are having network issues and it may not be fixed until the beginning of the new year... Im going to try cyanogen 10.1 and a new kernel. I know my friend who doesnt live so far from me isnt having this issue but then again he never messed with carrier settings apns and system info settings like i did X_X
OK it's not the phone at least, that's what I think. I'm on edge right now because of spotty service, where my HTC sensation used to pull full bars with hspa, I'm having edge and 2 bars here.
I think its something with the stock ROM on here, is everyone that's having the problem running stock?

LTE T-Mobile

I'm having a bit of a problem. Now I know there is LTE where I live, but for some reason not getting it. I flashed the radio to 0.33. I did the *#*#4636#*#* and enabled LTE/GSM (auto). Changed the apn settings to fast.tmobile.com and set the bearer to LTE, but still not getting an internet connection.

If you really have the APN as "fast.tmobile.com", then you forgot the dash. This is what you have to put:
fast.t-mobile.com
the dash is essential.
Did that still nothing,

It sometimes has to be set to IPv4 only.
Try setting it to LTE only, then when you get the data switch to LTE/GSM. Sometimes when I don't get LTE I just do that and it works fine.

You need to leave the 'bearer' as unspecified or unknown I forget what it says but don't use LTE or the other setting.
Also, I use "LTE/GSM/CDMA" setting.. it works better for me.

I don't know but when I just use that it works better when I am not in a 4G area. Who knows could have been coincidence but I cannot go into the menu to change it now because it will break my LTE (mine sticks after reboot)
If you really just want to check out LTE in your area may I suggest you nandroid current rom and download the LTE version of CM 10.1. Install and boot it up and check to see if indeed LTE is running fine in your area. Then come back to your rom and start fresh.
I just added the 3 lines to my build.prop flashed .27 radio and make the proper script changes for in call volume to work and its been good to go. But if you did all this and still have problems like I suggested above just flash an LTE rom to make sure all is ok

Detailed info is all over the forums:
1. You can simply flash this rom here
2. Flash .27 or .33 radio from here
Thats all you need to achieve LTE and is the most simple way of doing it that I have seen. Flashed radio and rom in same session then changed my network to LTE and was up and running in 5 minutes.
Current rom:
Add this line to build.prop
Code:
#included in <build.prop>
/*
*telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1
*ro.telephony.default_network=9
*ro.ril.def.preferred.network=9
*/
Then go here for audio fix
or go here <--- I am on T-Mobile and used this method..
After I was done I had LTE working so I could try out the speed differences.

Honestly I use the signal text so I do not know for sure but I did see H+ once. I also use network signal info from the market to see if its on LTE/HSPA+/GPRS/Edge.
Basically if you run a speed test you can tell the difference especially when my upload speed is over 9

Maybe the place where you made your speed test isn't so good. I had the same problem. I had slow lte speed and then I realize it wasn't because of the rom but because of the reception so I go somewhere where I have a better reception and I get LTE speed. By the way, lte is not always covered everywhere in your state.

cm13 not switching to anything other than wdcma only.

Hey folks , title says it all. I switched to cm13 from chroma , performed a full system wipe including sd card. So far so good but the only problem is , gsm doesn't work. I can't switch to it. Not from the settings and not from the dialer hidden menu. When i select gsm , it immediately switches back. It's always "Wdcma Only". Is this a known bug ? I scoured xda but haven't been able to find anything.
Thanks in advance.
Edit : Flashed the stock radio from 5.1.1 to no avail , also tried the 33-1.07 hybrid modem again doesn't switch. Using the latest December 27th build.
There was a bug report in the mako CM13 thread about being unable to switch between 2G and 3G, perhaps this is the same issue?
I think someones written a patch and just waiting for it to be merged.
Can you explain to me why you want to switch between them? My phone automatically switches, if 3G is available, it uses that, if its not, it drops back to the best available 2G signal automatically. Why would you choose not to use 3G if its available and just let the phone automatically switch?

What you're talking about is wcdma preferred mode. Mine is stuck on wcdma only. Which means i don't have gsm so it won't switch automatically. That and the fact that i rarely use 3g because i'm always on wi-fi somewhere , using gsm saves battery. also on lollipop 3g modem took horribly long wake locks that lasted for %70 of the idle time so i hate msm.hsic.wakelock. But if it is a known bug , i'm relieved because that should be patched soon. Without me having to restore my backup. Thanks.

It's a known bug. We have to wait for this patch to be merged. Keep an eye on it!

Thanks for the heads-up. I checked it , i think it hasn't been merged yet. So we gotta wait for tomorrow's release i guess.
Can anyone get their Nexus 4 running a recently nightly (like Jan 8th 2016) successfully switch to LTE? The fix in question was merged a few days ago.
Even though I can go into the *#*#4636#*#* service menu and successfully switch to LTE/GSM auto, or LTE/CDMA auto, and the radio *does* appear to power-cycle, it still says on 3G/H+ (so the status bar icon says). Never had this issue with CM12.
My build.prop also says my preferred network mode is 9, even after rebooting, which should keep it on LTE. Any ideas?
The only way to have LTE is to change that patch to include LTE instead of only GSM and WCDMA but since LTE isn't fully supported on nexus 4, a patch like that will never be merged.
Probably someone will make one "lte enabler" for cm13, just wait (or help)
Build with that patch

i saw this and since i wanted to figure out how to build cyanogenmod anyways, i went and built cm13 with the LTE included in where the patch discussed here should have added it. I have yet to test it on my device but thought people here might be interested in it.
let me know if it works out.
i would post a link, but since this is my first post it won't let me. i guess message me directly for it? or maybe someone can and then post the link here?

Shoot me a PM and I'll post it for you, assuming that's allowed (mods?).

lannister80 should be posting a link to it shortly, but i thought i would give an update that i did test it on my device last night and LTE does work with it. the normal issues of making sure you have the right modem and then changing it in the *#*#* thing. i had to change mine to LTE only first and then it would work when i changed it to LTE /gsm auto... but it does work.

There's the link. Can I ask which commit this CM13 build is based on? Is this a nightly, something older, etc?

Confirmed that this build does enable LTE. I did have to, as zachron mentioned, set the radio to "LTE only" first (which enabled LTE), and then "LTE/GSM auto", (which kept LTE enabled, and will hopefully jump down to HSPA+ or 3G when necessary). Switching to "LTE/GSM auto" first did not work (radio turned off, but came back on in HSPA+/3G mode).
I'll roam around today and see if I lose data at any time (when LTE isn't available).
Thanks @zachron!!

@zachron: Can you show me what source changes you made? Maybe I can set up a github account and do a merge request with these changes. I can't fathom why this isn't included in CM13 for the N4xus 4 when it was in CM11, CM10 etc.

i changed "<string translatable="false" name="config_radio_access_family">GSM|WCDMA</string>" to
"<string translatable="false" name="config_radio_access_family">GSM|WCDMA|LTE</string>"
as someone else mentioned, earlier in this thread though, they may not change it because the nexus 4 does not "officially" support lte

Which is insane, because they absolutely allowed this in the last several major CM versions (12, 11, probably 10 and 9). Enabling LTE was one of the first things I did after getting my Nexus 4 in March 2013, and I was on an official CM build for years.
The "enabler" just messes with build.prop and makes some database changes to make the setting "stick" after reboot, so it must have been an allowed option when it was built (the enabler can't change that).
I don't know what the deal with the sudden change of heart is...

Slow Internet speed on 3G, works great on 4G

Hello.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I have very slow Internet speed when using 3G, but works great on 4G. The pages load very very slow. I'm having this problem since I bought the phone, but never bothered me till recently, when I moved in an area where I do not have 4G signal. I made a speed test with my phone next to a S7 edge, I got around 3.5 Mbps download/0.02 Mbps upload, the other phone got 10 Mbps/download with 5 Mbps upload. I tried switching the sim cards and also got the same speeds with my friend's sim card.

What ROM are you using ? Some of the non OOS ROMs have different settings for data.
Also different phones are going to yield different results, my HTC 10 was a lot better than the one plus 5 by some way.
Let us know your set up, see if something stands out.

OOS 4.5.10 with default kernel.
I also changed my Sim card today, but same result. Facebook photos load very slow, YouTube videos keep buffering.
I tried to eliminate all the variables, testing multiple friends' sim cards of the same provider, but I always have the same slow speed. Before OP5 I had a Meizu Pro 5, never had this kind of problem. I can't think of any other motive except the phone is faulty.

Ah ok, that's odd.
Might be worth checking your access point, make sure it's spot on, there are usually alternative APN's for networks, sometimes the phone will choose one which is not great.
I'm currently not on OOS i'm using an AOSP Rom so haven't got the exact settings you have, but i'd say make sure that network is set to automatic, check the APN (you can google their preferred one) make sure LTE is on and that it's not the only thing that's selected.
Set it to that and give it a reboot.
OOS 4.5.10 with default kernel, is that rooted? Custom rom or stock?

Forgot to mention that 3G is only up to 20mb so it'll never be amazing and of recent times it's got a lot worse, if 4G drops then it's usually quite crap, definitely what it used to be like, my old phones on orange uk were 3G and they always had great speeds, 3G / H from then seemed to be a lot quicker.
Already tried the apn thing. Different apns, network to automatic and things like that. Same speeds.
I know that 3g speeds are not as high as 4g ones, but I repeat, I never had this problem with the old phone.
I have a similar problem: On some places in my small village, the mobile data gets disconnected. I did not have that problem with my old Galaxy S5.
It is quite annoying, I think about switching to a Galaxy S8+, if I cannot solve that problem.
I had LineageOs on S5, now I have OxygenOs. Is it maybe possible, that the problems get solved, when I switch to LineageOs on my Oneplus 5?
I can confirm that there definitely is some sort of problem when it comes to using 3G on this device.
I also experience slow 3G and the internet even cuts out for a few seconds sometimes.
4G works fine on this device and 3G also works fine on my old S4 with the same SIM card. So it's definitely the OnePlus that has an issue.
Let's see if the new 4.5.11 OTA is gonna fix it.
4.5.11 did not fix the problem for me.
Today I installed LineageOS and fortunately, this fixed my problem.
So it seems to be a problem of OxygenOS, not a hardware problem.
I think I will stay in LineageOs for a while until this problem will be fixed. Those many internet disconnects were extremely annoying.

Actually having the same problem, both custom ROMs and stock with locked bootloader. The only custom rom I've had luck with (and it's probably just placebo) is purefusion rom. Rock solid rom in general but 3g seems to be working for me. FYI I'm on 3 in the UK, getting about 12 down on H+ (forced, I get 4G here) and 3/4 signal bars.
Edit: and like 70-90 on LTE ?

I don't think you read the part where I said I was using a custom rom lol. The rom I'm using is an AOSP based rom, not LineageOS based but same effect, it works, where stock would not
Edit: new lineageos builds seem to work, just flashed one on multirom , older ones previously did not.
Yesterday I tried to use 2 sim card in my op5, guess what H+ runs smoothly without any problem. It's been running for 24 hours without any problems, maybe you can try on your op5?
Seems stupid to be forced to use a custom rom just because I get around 3 Mbps download with 0.02 Mbps upload. I should get around 14 with 7 Mbps

There is also another weird bug with the stock OOS. I use Tidal (for lossless music quality) and OOS can't stream it for ****. All the custom roms i have play streaming lossless tracks straight away, but on OOS (maybe because of signal issues?) it can take anything from 10 seconds, to 3-4 minutes to start playing a track.. and i have unlimited data so i don't see why i should download my tracks when i have unlimited data that never gets capped (up to 2TB)
So, yes, its silly to install a custom rom just for that, but until OOS fixes their issues, its what i've done. The PureFusion rom i'm using is a super fast and stable rom, with OOS camera (not sure about quality, but i dont care) - entire OOS camera works, RAW photos, portrait mode etc and my signal issues are gone on this!
There's already a topic about this. Looks like more people have this issue. (Including me).
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/oneplus-5-issue-h-network-t3658071
I live in Portugal, and i and my girlfriend have this annoying problem on OP5 Midnight Black and Soft Gold. This is very stupid and make me very very unhappy :crying:
I already change operator and still have same issue. Before, i think that is operator problem, so i change from (NOS) to (MEO) and still the same. Very slow internet on H or H+ and keep freezing with signal max. I will cross fingers and wait for the Oreo Update... If the OnePlus can't fix this problem, i will sell the phone, and will be the last phone i buy to OnePlus. I'm very very mad with this situation!!
Anyone sent the phone to repair for this problem? I tried installing xxx ROM today, but the issue persists.

Send to RMA is not the solution. Because this issue affects all of OP5 arround of the world.

Then what is the solution in your opinion? Just the classic "deal with it"?
