LTE T-Mobile - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having a bit of a problem. Now I know there is LTE where I live, but for some reason not getting it. I flashed the radio to 0.33. I did the *#*#4636#*#* and enabled LTE/GSM (auto). Changed the apn settings to fast.tmobile.com and set the bearer to LTE, but still not getting an internet connection.

If you really have the APN as "fast.tmobile.com", then you forgot the dash. This is what you have to put:
fast.t-mobile.com
the dash is essential.

Did that still nothing,

It sometimes has to be set to IPv4 only.

Try setting it to LTE only, then when you get the data switch to LTE/GSM. Sometimes when I don't get LTE I just do that and it works fine.

Try running latest carbon nightly? LTE wasn't working for me with other Roms but with carbon the APN is already set.. LTE is working perfect for me on carbon.

Also you can use this app instead of dialing the dialer code. Just makes it a lil faster.

You need to leave the 'bearer' as unspecified or unknown I forget what it says but don't use LTE or the other setting.
Also, I use "LTE/GSM/CDMA" setting.. it works better for me.

I don't know but when I just use that it works better when I am not in a 4G area. Who knows could have been coincidence but I cannot go into the menu to change it now because it will break my LTE (mine sticks after reboot)

If you really just want to check out LTE in your area may I suggest you nandroid current rom and download the LTE version of CM 10.1. Install and boot it up and check to see if indeed LTE is running fine in your area. Then come back to your rom and start fresh.
I just added the 3 lines to my build.prop flashed .27 radio and make the proper script changes for in call volume to work and its been good to go. But if you did all this and still have problems like I suggested above just flash an LTE rom to make sure all is ok

Hey man, I've been trying to get LTE working, but I didn't get it right. Can you explain what you did in a little more detail? Thanks.

Follow everything in Part 5. I did that and I'm getting 4g at speeds around 30mbps. Spaced because I want to help, but I can't post links yet.

Detailed info is all over the forums:
1. You can simply flash this rom here
2. Flash .27 or .33 radio from here
Thats all you need to achieve LTE and is the most simple way of doing it that I have seen. Flashed radio and rom in same session then changed my network to LTE and was up and running in 5 minutes.
Current rom:
Add this line to build.prop
Code:
#included in <build.prop>
/*
*telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1
*ro.telephony.default_network=9
*ro.ril.def.preferred.network=9
*/
Then go here for audio fix
or go here <--- I am on T-Mobile and used this method..
After I was done I had LTE working so I could try out the speed differences.

Honestly I use the signal text so I do not know for sure but I did see H+ once. I also use network signal info from the market to see if its on LTE/HSPA+/GPRS/Edge.
Basically if you run a speed test you can tell the difference especially when my upload speed is over 9

Want Better 4G Signal? Do This (Nexus S 4G Edition!)

It would appear that with the 4.0.4 update Sprint has finally blessed us with WiMax settings ala Epic. I stumbled upon the menu while trying to find what my WiMax signal was (which I still haven't found). As you other Epic refugees know, you will need your MSL which you can get from Terminal per kanged instructions below. I got much faster speeds at my location with this mod. I have only tested this on the LOTA R1 Rom, others may work as well, please report them.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for anything good or bad that happens to your phone. You do this mod at your own risk.
Without further ado here are the Kanged (and edited) instructions
gokuman56 said:
Want Faster Speeds?? This hack can double your 4g speeds and increase your connectivity by a great factor!!
You will need your MSL, Call Sprint or follow this:
1. Dial *#*#3282#*#*
2. It will open a menu, click WiMAX and enter MSL. Note: 4G radio must be on.
3. Go to extensions and Hold EntryRX and Write Extension
4. Change the Value from -89 to -110 (The Lower the weaker the signal can be for the phone to connect.)
5. Change EntryCINR to 0004 (edit: I had better luck not editing this and leaving it at 0006)
—————————————————————————
If you are tired of the Radio taking forever to reconnect once you loose your 4G signal, then:
1. Change Scan Retries to 00015
2. Change Scan attempt timeout to 0002
You will now have a somewhat faster and much stronger 4G signal!!!
EDIT: Easier Way to get MSL. Okay so you have to download connectbot from the Market
1. Open ConnectBot
2. Agree Next Next Yada Yada
3. Press SSH and select Local
4. type in whatever you want by local and press enter
5. ok once you see a black screen and to the left a cash sign, type in “getprop” without the quotes
6. You should see a lot of words, scroll up all the way at the top.
7. Near the middle of the screen until you see [ril.MSL]
8. It will be 6 digits and that’s your MSL

aokp 28 was already set for -89. great tut though.... btw, 'get my msl' is far easier to use and it's free too.
BB rom also has these values set. +1 for Get my MSL

not really seeing any difference in speed or signal strength.
*shrug*
Well its already set at -87 then lower it to -110 it being further from zero than its the lower number
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I think you guys have misread though. You need to see -110, not -89, as lower is better in this case. That's how signal strength is written.
Hmm seems euroskank kang does not have the wimax section(and wimax is on) wonder if I need to be on the wimax network to try

Giving this a shot...Thanks for the info!
This does help somewhat. It doesn't loose the signal as often, like when driving through a tunnel the phone doesn't have to rescan. I used to use these settings on my EVO. But they aren't on my ROM right now (CNA 1.5.5).
You can also get the msl by getting termonal emulator on the market and typing in "getprop ril.MSL" without the quotation marks. It is cap sensitive.

This should work on any roms. It sticks even after updating to a different version os. I did this while on GB and it's still there on JB. However, this does not give you speed increase. Changing from -89 to -110 means that it will still connect even though there's a weak signal.
You guys may want to try 3g/4g optimizer app. This improves speed (varies though) on 3g, not 4g.

Are you on the stock ROM? If not, that might be the issue (because of the modifications made to it something could've gone wrong in that specific ROM.) You could also attempt to use Phone Info from the play store if it simply just doesn't work in the dialer. There's not many people that have issues doing this, so it could be that you might just have to reset your phone if all else fails.

Just Tried it again on CFX SR1 W/ brixked 0.6 and got an FC. I got it stock as well.
But from what ive heard you will not kick into HSPA+ mode until you put a strain on your conection. IE: Idling/web browsing/facebook will not bring you up to HSPA:15 (you can check you HSPA Channel in the settings--->about phone--->Status and then look at mobile Network Type). Knowing that i live in a well covered area i was upset that i couldnt get full 42mbps. But as my research and expereince has shown i can get it, just only when its necessary.
NOW, im not a wireless tech, im not even a rocket scientist, but i have done alot of reasearch and the data matches my hypothesis so ill lay it out for everyone to tear apart.
HSPA+ 42M works by using a Dual Carrier signal, which of course uses a bit more power than a single carrier. So even if you have a perfect -0dbm signal strength, you will only see HSPA:10 [ aka 21mbps ] in your network type. BUT, if you put a load on your connection ( in my case i took a multi hundred meg file into dropbox and then downloaded it) you will see the speeds increase signifigantly past the first little bit of data transfer, and if your are quick about it or cook up some sort of widget or overlay you can see the phone kick up to "high gear" and use the HSPA:15 channel.
i have also seen this in effect with larger apps. For instance the Ingress update that i got earlier today downloaded in these steps: 756k - 1.3Mb - 3.5mb installing. in ~ 10 seconds.
tl;dr Phone idles in low speed mode, goes to high speed when needed.
So if you want to test for yourself and have a bit of data left on your account (in 3 test i burned ~ 250MB) start a big download and then quickly switch to a view of the network type.

Well no one has a solution or an actual idea about what the problem is so I guess we will just be waiting x amount of time for a fix. Maybe a ROM dev can look into this and fix the issue because it'd be really nice to use the new 1900mhz bands. Can someone do a log cat and see what the issue is? No laptop ATM.

[Q] How to check if LTE is working with I9506 CM11 from solk2?

Hi,
I'm running the userdebug build from this thread. Now I wonder how to check whether LTE works? Should there be an "L" somewhere? I can only see the "H+" for HDSPA+. With the Samsung Firmware there's a big "L" when LTE is available.
Ok, I have selected preferred network = LTE in the system settings. According to this FAQ (hXXp://cyanogenmodlog.wordpress.com/faq/) it should show "4G" which it doesn't.
So I figure it doesn't work
ok, so it does show "LTE" when I move around the area a bit. Apparently the area is not fully covered here.
so everything's good

Does LTE work for you?

Can't get LTE working on CM12.1

Hi, so today I have installed CM12.1 unofficial on my S5. I loved the rom, everything was perfect but I couldn't get LTE working. My Note 4 (N910c) gets 2 bars of indication in the same room, speed is 20mbs+. When I launch mobile data on S5, it takes long to estabilish connection, then only gets H+, and after several seconds it drops to 3G What can I do? CM is blazing fast compared to stock ROMs, but I can't imagine myself using 3G to YT/web etc... Help please! I have the newest modem/bl (BOC7).
I'm sure you've already checked your APN settings to be what your carrier advises. If not that is something to start with.
If you're on att,
Also look into your build.prop to add in/modify the following accordingly:
ro.product.model=SAMSUNG-SM-G900A
ro.product.name=klteuc
ro.product.device=klteatt

I am not ATT, i'm from Poland so Soo.. weird situation today. I've been in city centre where LTE signal is pretty good. For like 3-4h it was constantly switching between 3G/H/H+, and suddenly it caught LTE. Now I am at home and it still connects to LTE, 2 bars just like in Note 4. I am pretty confused now. It seems that modem/kernel/APN are all right, maybe a kind of system trigger that "stabilizes" the signal? 3G/H+ has 5 bars here, LTE only 2. I have already put a tick to "LTE (preffered) in network options. How about this?
EDIT
Rebooted the phone, again, no LTE
Wow that is cool! I remember my CM12 used to constantly wobble between H/H+ and once I finally gave up messing with it and screen turned off for 15-20 minutes, I'd turn the screen back on and find myself on a 4G LTE signal (feeling great). Once I made a call it drops to 3G, which is normal, but after I'd hang up it wouldn't necessarily switch back to 4G any time soon.
So I gave edgarf28's XtreStoLite a shot and haven't looked back since! It is touchwiz based, but it is light, debloated, lighting fast, and it just works. I'm on XtreStoLite 2.1, and I have no complains at all.
I have the same problem on a SM-G900T running on AT&T. After every reboot can only get H/H+ leave it alone and will grab LTE 10 to 40 mins after the screen is off. Leave the screen on and won't grab LTE. And of course make a phone call you lose LTE connection. And how long it takes to get back is very random. I can't find a solution to this and got a G900T so I can run AOSP. I was tired of touchwiz and trying to get themed apps and dialers. now I am screwed I wish I could find a solution to this.
No 3g but have lte
I know this is probably in the wrong spot so I'm sorry.
I just clean flashed my sm-g900r4 to cm12.1 cyan ROM 20150428
I have working lte data but no 3g, so when I move out of lte area the signal icon just shows an exclamation point, any help would be greatly appreciated.
The way I fixed mine was by removing all apn entries I didn't need. This caused the search for LTE to speed up no issues since

I really don't know why the development stopped for klteusc, but if I were to guess, I'd guess it is probably covered under another variant.
For example, since klteusc is a cdma phone I won't be surprised to see US cellular CM getting absorbed into kltespr development. But this is just a hypothetical scenario because I couldn't find any proof. But it is worth looking into if anyone is talking about it online.

cm13 not switching to anything other than wdcma only.

Hey folks , title says it all. I switched to cm13 from chroma , performed a full system wipe including sd card. So far so good but the only problem is , gsm doesn't work. I can't switch to it. Not from the settings and not from the dialer hidden menu. When i select gsm , it immediately switches back. It's always "Wdcma Only". Is this a known bug ? I scoured xda but haven't been able to find anything.
Thanks in advance.
Edit : Flashed the stock radio from 5.1.1 to no avail , also tried the 33-1.07 hybrid modem again doesn't switch. Using the latest December 27th build.
There was a bug report in the mako CM13 thread about being unable to switch between 2G and 3G, perhaps this is the same issue?
I think someones written a patch and just waiting for it to be merged.
Can you explain to me why you want to switch between them? My phone automatically switches, if 3G is available, it uses that, if its not, it drops back to the best available 2G signal automatically. Why would you choose not to use 3G if its available and just let the phone automatically switch?

What you're talking about is wcdma preferred mode. Mine is stuck on wcdma only. Which means i don't have gsm so it won't switch automatically. That and the fact that i rarely use 3g because i'm always on wi-fi somewhere , using gsm saves battery. also on lollipop 3g modem took horribly long wake locks that lasted for %70 of the idle time so i hate msm.hsic.wakelock. But if it is a known bug , i'm relieved because that should be patched soon. Without me having to restore my backup. Thanks.

I just flashed CM13 on my wife's nexus 4 and I realized LTE wasn't enabled. Googled it and it seems there was an app for lollipop to enable it but it didn't work out for me.
Is it a CM13 bug thing or am I missing something?

It's a known bug. We have to wait for this patch to be merged. Keep an eye on it!

Thanks to Streetwalker for finding the bug.

Thanks for the heads-up. I checked it , i think it hasn't been merged yet. So we gotta wait for tomorrow's release i guess.
Can anyone get their Nexus 4 running a recently nightly (like Jan 8th 2016) successfully switch to LTE? The fix in question was merged a few days ago.
Even though I can go into the *#*#4636#*#* service menu and successfully switch to LTE/GSM auto, or LTE/CDMA auto, and the radio *does* appear to power-cycle, it still says on 3G/H+ (so the status bar icon says). Never had this issue with CM12.
My build.prop also says my preferred network mode is 9, even after rebooting, which should keep it on LTE. Any ideas?
The only way to have LTE is to change that patch to include LTE instead of only GSM and WCDMA but since LTE isn't fully supported on nexus 4, a patch like that will never be merged.
Probably someone will make one "lte enabler" for cm13, just wait (or help)
Build with that patch

i saw this and since i wanted to figure out how to build cyanogenmod anyways, i went and built cm13 with the LTE included in where the patch discussed here should have added it. I have yet to test it on my device but thought people here might be interested in it.
let me know if it works out.
i would post a link, but since this is my first post it won't let me. i guess message me directly for it? or maybe someone can and then post the link here?

Shoot me a PM and I'll post it for you, assuming that's allowed (mods?).

lannister80 should be posting a link to it shortly, but i thought i would give an update that i did test it on my device last night and LTE does work with it. the normal issues of making sure you have the right modem and then changing it in the *#*#* thing. i had to change mine to LTE only first and then it would work when i changed it to LTE /gsm auto... but it does work.

There's the link. Can I ask which commit this CM13 build is based on? Is this a nightly, something older, etc?

Confirmed that this build does enable LTE. I did have to, as zachron mentioned, set the radio to "LTE only" first (which enabled LTE), and then "LTE/GSM auto", (which kept LTE enabled, and will hopefully jump down to HSPA+ or 3G when necessary). Switching to "LTE/GSM auto" first did not work (radio turned off, but came back on in HSPA+/3G mode).
I'll roam around today and see if I lose data at any time (when LTE isn't available).
Thanks @zachron!!

@zachron: Can you show me what source changes you made? Maybe I can set up a github account and do a merge request with these changes. I can't fathom why this isn't included in CM13 for the N4xus 4 when it was in CM11, CM10 etc.

sure.

i changed "<string translatable="false" name="config_radio_access_family">GSM|WCDMA</string>" to
"<string translatable="false" name="config_radio_access_family">GSM|WCDMA|LTE</string>"
as someone else mentioned, earlier in this thread though, they may not change it because the nexus 4 does not "officially" support lte

Which is insane, because they absolutely allowed this in the last several major CM versions (12, 11, probably 10 and 9). Enabling LTE was one of the first things I did after getting my Nexus 4 in March 2013, and I was on an official CM build for years.
The "enabler" just messes with build.prop and makes some database changes to make the setting "stick" after reboot, so it must have been an allowed option when it was built (the enabler can't change that).
I don't know what the deal with the sudden change of heart is...

Oh damn it, I have to do it via this site (they won't merge anything submitted directly on the repository):
