Did you guys know... - Vibrant General

Got the official OTA for J16 and my replacement isn't hardware locked anymore! Got into recovery the first time! I've just seen all the adb workarounds but never heard mention of it being naturally fixed.

It was fixed in ji4 I think. Good to see it stayed in the ji6 firmware.

So now if you get the OTA j16 update it makes your vibrant able to go into downloader mode if it couldnt before?

Yep. In my case at least, can't imagine it being specific to my phone .

As reported by untermesch, JI6 replaces the SBL of the device with one that allows manually entering recovery and download mode via the buttons (aka it unlocks the hardware)

I can vouch for this as well. Mine was hw locked when I bought it. After the update, I thought id give it a whirl and voila, hw lock issue was gone!! Hooray for me!!

Maybe they finally realized hardware locked Vibrants are like abstinence-only education: ineffective and a waste of money, since boys and girls are going to hack their phones anyways. It's part of being human.

Mine had a locked sbl, after ota it is accessable.

My phone is still hardware locked after JI6 update with mini Kies. Did you guys update via OTA from tmobile?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

Yes I Updated OTA.

I did the fix manually - thank god too cause the OTA bricked my wife's phone.
Thank the Norse god!

I just checked mine and I'm no longer locked. Time to root. So the update fixed mine

Mine was hw but not after ota update

[Q] No 3G???

So, I'm just strolling along, minding my own business, lovin' my Vibrant with ji6 and all, when BAM! No more 3G. My 3G was sketchy in my house as it was, but always worked brilliantly once I stepped foot outside my house.
It all started when a few days ago I decided to see what would happen if I put it on 3G only. Viola! For the first time ever, it worked in my house! Yay me! Worked flawlessly for a couple of days, then I got the crappy "searching..." message. I switched back to auto 2G/3G. Now, everywhere where I could get 3G previously, I just get the "searching..." message. I am now stuck with leaving it on 2G only no matter where I am, indoors or out.
Any suggestions? I know I can restore to factory (not necessarily that that would be a fix), but if I can avoid it that would be awesome.
I feel you. Im going through the same thing.only pulling in 0.025kb with the Spreedtest.net App. Sucks. T-mobile say they cant help me. Tried to get me to upgrade to the Mytouch 4G. Just got this Vibrant 2 months ago. WTF!!

Just received replacement with 2.2

Can i still root the evo with 2.2
Your definitely going to get flamed for opening a new topic on this...
but yes, http://unrevoked.com
yeah i know, i just saw every one having so much trouble. lol thanx
You're lucky your replacement had 2.2! I'm worried now that if i have any trouble with my evo and need to get it replaced or worked on, that it'll end up being updated in the process, and not rootable. I hope that doesn't happen before a new root exploit is found.

You should be good. Just don't accept the OTA.
My buddy just bought a new one Saturday. It was the last one that hadn't been updated yet, in the store!

If your Rooted DON'T DO IT! Not till you know if it will break Root. Good rule of thumb, if your Rooted do not accept any official Updates. At least until you know what's up.
i am not rooted but because sprint is sending me a new phone in a couple of days i figured why not
i will root after i get the phone(its a replacement)
If your not rooted, and your getting a replacement anyway. Then I'd go for it.

Road back to .91 from .141

Just creating a post in general to showcase my steps in an effort to get back to an unlockable boot loader from the .141 crap moto placed on my phone upon sending it in for repair.
Lucky for me, I was still under warranty so I sent it and and I am tracking it now... For the comment section I told them that I did not appreciate them upgraded me to a really bad version (.141) that made my phone really slow and unstable, and of course caused my once unlocked bootloader to no longer be unlocked.
Actually posting this because I'm frustrated and I hope that it will work so that way if anyone else is under contract or warranty can try and *hopefully* get the same results.
I will update as soon as anything happens.

4.3 USA

I am using a stock, non-rooted N7 and I haven't gotten the 4.3 update! I am getting a bit irritated. No matter how many times I click check update, 4.2.2 is the 'Up To Date' OS! Is there a way to force the update without having to just flash the new ROM? I don't want to take the time to root it just to get new software I SHOULD be getting soon anyways. Also, if it makes a difference, as I know some updates roll out based on region, I am in the mid USA

Have patience. Also, if you want to update, no need to root, that's a myth on Nexus devices.
Okay thanks. I'm thinking about getting the new one anyways and giving that one away yet. Not sure yet...... I want the update now though :-/
