If your Rooted DON'T DO IT! Not till you know if it will break Root. Good rule of thumb, if your Rooted do not accept any official Updates. At least until you know what's up.

i am not rooted but because sprint is sending me a new phone in a couple of days i figured why not
i will root after i get the phone(its a replacement)

If your not rooted, and your getting a replacement anyway. Then I'd go for it.

I just got a new replacement phone today from UPS. Got it this morning and still waiting for the update.
My first one update within hours of me turning it on.
I'll let ya know if I don't have it by tomorrow.
Amazing how quick my wife and I all if a sudden get the update when I tell them I am gonna return the phones and cancel the agreement! But I know why the update didn't come when it was suppose to. The imei was not correct in the system. The last rep got tech on the phone and said check the imei and sure enough it was not changed.

OTA Updates available for root users.

Does anyone know if rooting will stop OTA updates from being sent to the Atrix?

OTA updates are good when you have root
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Only thing that stops it is webtop mod

You shouldnt have any problem with the OTA update when rooted. You will lose root though when you install this update that is coming.

If I'm arooted and odexed the update will not take correct? Or do you get the option to install or reject anyway?

You'll get the option it just fails during install. And aroot and deodex doesn't interfere with the update

If your deodexed it will interfere with the update. You need the .odex files for it to complete the check for the update to be approved.

Wrong, I have webtop mod. I still got the update notification two days ago (I volunteered for beta test). I didn't actually update so I don't know if the update will go through or fail after the webtop mod.
supposedly there is issues with the update and rooted users? can anyone confirm or deny this?

Sorry I wasn't clear when I said it stop the update I didn't mean it would stop it from downloading it stops it from installing. Webtop mod causes update to fail during install. A couple of posts up umm (sorry I don't know your name you've commented on my posts before) the poster with the new York name said that being deodexed would also cause the update to fail. I can't confirm or deny this but that might be true as its a major change just like the webtop mod is.

Wrong. This doesn't cause any major problems, you simply lose root. There is currently no method of rooting if you update, save flashing back to 1.2.6 or 1.5.2.
I assume this is consistant with all Atrix owners. I've just GladRoot my Bell Atrix, but only so I can use setcpu. I have not modded anything else.
So, hopefully (one day) Bell might update their version of the Atrix, although its not looking good right now

Just a curiosity considering you're from Aussie Land...why did you get the Bell Atrix vs. the AT&T one? Since modding or romming wise, the Bell doesn't have much going on for it due to no SBF

There were 2 reasons
1) I was in Canada at the time skiing around the day of release (17th March), needed a phone that worked on the right bands (my T-Mobile Nexus S didn't work at all) and happened to go past a Bell store while I was grocery shopping that had them in stock for $599. So I got it and had it unlocked in store.
2) Wanted one without the AT&T branding
All in all, I probably should have gone the AT&T version. I didnt know that Bell was so crap releasing updates. Modding wise, I wasn't fussed there was no SBF. I actually don't mind the phone because it has less bloatware on it from what I have seen.
I'm happy to just have root, and it plays the games that I use with absolute smooth operation. Overall, apart from the lack of updates, I'm stoked with it.
All I get is the android guy with the "!" When I attempt the update. Anyone else get this?

Well you did end up getting a nice phone. But just an FYI for the next time you're in Canada that the Nexus S(Tmo) will work on 2 carriers, Wind and Mobilicity, as both use the HSPA 1700 frequency. Only negative is that they are currently only have towers in major metro cities.

Just received replacement with 2.2

Can i still root the evo with 2.2
Your definitely going to get flamed for opening a new topic on this...
but yes, http://unrevoked.com
yeah i know, i just saw every one having so much trouble. lol thanx
You're lucky your replacement had 2.2! I'm worried now that if i have any trouble with my evo and need to get it replaced or worked on, that it'll end up being updated in the process, and not rootable. I hope that doesn't happen before a new root exploit is found.

You should be good. Just don't accept the OTA.
My buddy just bought a new one Saturday. It was the last one that hadn't been updated yet, in the store!

I did... I was really thinking I wouldn't get the update... I ordered it the day of the update push... but then again I am very unlucky with phones...
Sent from my XT907 using xda app-developers app
So wait, even if we have the update, it's okay, we can just downgrade?
Also, OP, I'm sure you got your RAZR for free on contract, but I bought mine new on eBay to keep my unlimited data. I dunno if $280 was too much for you, I usually wait until a phone has been out for a year or so and then I can snag it for $250-350 off contract, new.
On the bright side, now you can get the latest device when it comes out for a reasonable price.
If I were you, I'd take advantage of the return policy ($35 restocking fee) and get like the nicest phone possible- maybe hit up a Verizon store and try them all out. I know the Dinc 4G LTE and Droid DNA had 2-3 more bars than the Motorola and Samsung (and Apple) phones, but they all may use different "bar calibrations".
The only reason I got the RAZR M was because a good deal came up on eBay and the seller took a pic of the barcode/info, so I saw the firmware version before buying.
Best of luck!

Yeah, that sucks. Gotta love the timing.
I found the 98.16.1 update file tried to apply it via recovery no go...I'm not going to risk trying to RSD the whole XML.. so I just called Verizon... asked if I could request a replacement without the update... he said... we can make a note to the warehouse but I cannot promise you one without the update as all CLND will be updated within two weeks of the push... so one can only hope...
Even if I can't get a an older version I'm probably gonna keep the M kinda a Motorola fanboy... I mean it was the first hand held cell phone I believe...

Mine updated itself last night. Okay, fine, I probably accidentally hit the update button. Anyway, now I have a locked, unrooted M. Good thing that X is coming soon.
I got my M for $50, but was able to keep my unlimited data. It helps to know people in the business.

Just to detail here a little. The root method is still Motochopper. With the help of realbbb on the HD, SamuriHL was able to produce a script to perform the function. I merely adapted it for the M.
This method essentially rolls back the device thru a modified fxz without flashing the tz partition, roots with Motochopper, protects root, updates then restore root.

4.3 USA

I am using a stock, non-rooted N7 and I haven't gotten the 4.3 update! I am getting a bit irritated. No matter how many times I click check update, 4.2.2 is the 'Up To Date' OS! Is there a way to force the update without having to just flash the new ROM? I don't want to take the time to root it just to get new software I SHOULD be getting soon anyways. Also, if it makes a difference, as I know some updates roll out based on region, I am in the mid USA

Have patience. Also, if you want to update, no need to root, that's a myth on Nexus devices.
