[Q] Question with Android Power Consumption - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

It seems that with every Android build that I have tried the power consumption is good (3-5 mA) on standby but then after a reboot it increases to (55-60 mA) on standby.
Are there any known reasons? Is there a fix for this problem?

I was able to fix the issue after every reboot/powerdown by running a "factory reset" in Android (settings/SD Phone storage) I suggest backing up your personal contents in case the factory reset actually does what it says. I have not lost any settings from the factory reset, and it brings the power consumption back down to less than 10 mAh standby.....

Thank you.
Is there an answer to why this happens?

Try having the keypad lights "on" when you're booting into haret. Seems dumb, but it works.

pssible soloution for battery darain on nand build

ii have been watching my new revived htc desire hd2(means hd2 which runs android) and i've tried a couple of nand builds and dozens of sd builds for the battery life
and here is the result
considering the fact that sd builds use sd cards to operate they use 2 times more battery than nand build
and now my battery lasts almost 2 days more in nand , while in sd builds i couldn't get a day through with it
but due to some rmnet connection problems most of people are experiencing high battery drain like 150ma
if u want to really compare the battery performance u have to put both builds on flight mod and the try them
I'm experiencing high battery drain running AD from NAND.
With: GSM + Data connection (no wifi, no BT), 55mA when idle
In the same configuration running from SD...5-6mA when idle.
Tried to disable data connection when running from NAND, result is 54mA...
I re-calibrate the battery, but still high battery drain...
Don't know where to look for as the NAND configuration regarding power management is exactly the same as when running from SD(screen auto-adjust on like from SD, screen timeout set to 30s like from SD)
could u give a little bit more information about your nand build and the radio
there is also a possibility that programs are struggling in the background
so you'd better try a clean build like nexus one
how to improve power consumption? in standby the phone has peaks 5ma to 50-60ma constantly! How can I do to improve the consumption?
i have MDJ FroYo Revolution v.2.2 [RMNET][kernel:MDJ S9.2 OC
Radio 2.14
I have read that some people do a certain procedure with battery and then obtain the optimization of consumption, you can say, or how to describe me?

Have a look on my sign
And regarding builds, both NAND and SD builds I used were Desire HD so it should be at least the same.

I followed the procedure:
-Charge the phone until full while the phone is totally off (shut down)
-Boot while the phone is plugged
-Delete the file batterystats.bin
-Unplugged the phone and wait until it is fully empty
-Reboot the phone to completely empty it
-Charge the phone until it's full
Done.
Im experienced high standby drain also. The only cure I found was to reboot the phone with the charger plugged in. If I just reboot it without plugging the charger, the battery drain stays about 50mA

ok look there are only two factors in the world that can cause battery drain
connection problem that is usually due to unsuitable radio and build
and background cpu involvement in applications that is caused by some applications
and it can be handled by task killer applications
except these two problems what really can cause battery drain?

I try and let you know, thanks!
In that final part:
-Charge the phone until it's full
Do I have to charge with phone off or on?
Am I missing something here? The title says "possible solution", but it's just a discussion about the fact that flight mode is the best way to compare SD and NAND consumption.
???
Have you tried the Radio drain fix?
- Enable gps+BT+WIFI
- Have a lock on GPS, wait for wifi and BT to go on
- Disable GPS+wifi+bt
This usually removes the 60ma drain, even if the GPS is off or has never been on.
>Most builds "forgot" to shut it off on start, but without showing the icon.

Battery drain: GOING CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!

I am really going crazy!!!!!!!!!!!
Tonight again after 8 hours of standby it went from 100% to 70% !!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is not normal...
I only have: weather every 6 hours, facebook every 2 hours, pushmail (but usually I turn it off at night)...
I do not have data autodisconnect, but untill a few days ago I never had drain issue...
I tried monitoring battery with a bat log program, and in standby it never goes lower than -75mA...
Signal at home is eprfect, so it cannot be a signal problem...
Could it be that my battery (after 1 year an 3 months) is nearly dead and in discharging quickly? How can I verify?
I am also attaching the datalog usage and as you can see there's not many data connections going on in standby: 22Kb from 22:00 till 23:00, 1Kb from 2:00 till midnight and 96Kb in 6 hours from midnight till 06:00am. I don't think that this data usage could justify a 30% drainage in 8 hours...
Thanks
75mA drain in standby is not normal, in WM you should be at 2mA.
If you can't identify which program is not sleeping then I would flash the newest stock ROM and see if this cures the issue.

When did you format your SD card for the last time? A heavily defragmented/malfunctioning SD card can cause huge battery drainage. So, if I were you, and it's a fairly long time ago, I would format SD Card (shut down device- take out Card and put in Reader - insert in PC -right click SD card and choose formatting (slow metho/ds) - after finishing reinsert Card in device and format again with SD card formatting tool). My battery is as old as yours and my overnight drainage in standby (with data connections on) is 3-4% max.

Sorry, hoped that this would be the "simple" solution of this problem. Does your battery take longer to fully charge than usual? If yes, than, certainly in combination with the drainage, I would replace the battery. Can't you borrow one to see if it's really the battery, cause that is still the best test to do? Maybe a superfluous question: did you try a hard reset?
regards, Kuzibri
Edit: forgot these two ones:
1. do you have sometimes the issue that during charging your LED goes from orange to green and back?
2. Clean the pins of the device, look if they function well and are equally high and also clean the contacts of battery with a soft clot

I don't know any1 else with an HD1 :-(
battery charges quite quickly on the wall socket, slower via usb butbthat's normal...
hard reset?!?!?! noooooooooooooo hahahaha I'm trying to figure out what's the problem to avoid hard resetting and spending 2 days reinstalling and reconfiguring everything

I have observed this problem also. My tool ResInfo showed me that the device does not change to standby. Only the backlight is switched off. The histogram of the cpu load shows that every few minutes a process becomes quite briefly active. Nevertheless, I could not investigate which module was responsible for it.
Since the ROM update from 1.72 to 3.14 I have not experienced this phenomenon any more.

Hi,
how can you tell exactly that the phone is not really going to standby?
Would it be possible, in your tool, to add a log function (in csv format) for both battery drain and cpu usage?
I am currently using a task manager tool which in real time shows the running tasks and their cpu usage, but this is almost useless in standby.
What we really need is a tool that, also in standby, keeps on logging active tasks and their cpu usage into a file, let's say every 1-2-4-5-10-15-30 seconds.

If we take the example of the original poster, after charging the battery to 100%, both counters shows 0 hours in the evening.
The next morning one would expect possibly following values:
Battery charge: 97%
Operation: 0h, 2 min, 42 sec
Standby: 8h, 42 min, 42 sec
But if you see this:
Battery charge: 70%
Operation: 8h, 45 min, 42 sec
Standby: 0h, 0 min, 0 sec
Then the device never was in the standby state.

This is not possible. Because in standby state, all components of the device are switched without current. Merely the memory (RAM) is supplied still with voltage to data preservation. In addition, the CPU is switched off. Merely a separate, programmable timer and a component for monitoring of the external interfaces are still in company. Therefore, no application can be executed.Hence, such a tool can recognize only after the turning on of the device whether the battery was charged/discharged while in suspend state.

I didn't mean to imply that it was the ROM causing the issue, just that a hard reset of the phone's state to a known 'good' condition would remove the doubt of a software change/corruption causing your problems.
If a hard reset and stock ROM still produce the same battery drain then your hardware maybe faulty. To eliminate a software issue try the fresh ROM for a few days without any 3rd party apps installed.

Anyone have solution? With this kind of battery life, I would have to revert back to wm6.5

Mine is the same way. Just a few minutes (10 to 15) doing things on mine from a fully charged battery and it goes down 20%.
I think it has more to do with magldr than the ROM, though. My other HD2 is using a cLK version of Tytung Android and it is the actual first Android build I've ever used that has acted like a stock ROM. The battery life is great and in standby it stays charged really well. Not so with the magldr version. In standby with the same ROM booted with magldr, the battery drops quickly.
There are people here experimenting with different radios to try and get the battery drain down. Both the hardware and software radios and different combinations of both.
As changing the hardware radio is easier at the moment than the software one (you have to re-flash and update to mango), you may want to try that.
Good luck
I have the same configuration but mine works fine (after doing the camera trick the battery last more than 24 hrs.). Maybe it is due to the battery lifetime, capability, quality or any other hardware issues.

Everytime you start the phone or after a reset, you have to do the camera trick.
Also, when you take a picture... before you shut down the camera, do the trick again.
After the MANGO installation, also download and install 2.12 Radio. That seems to be keeping the drain down a little. After I installed the 2.12 radio AND keeping an eye on the camera trick is done, the phone lasts for 1 day and 9 hours. (It's been 1 day and 10 hours now, 11% left...)
update 2.12 rom works!
update. I flashed with 2.12 rom, then did a factory reset, then camera trick.
Now 16 hours after the charge, made a few phone calls and some light internet surfing, I still have 48% battery. This is a remarkable contrast from yesterday. Don't know if this is due to 2.12 or the camera trick, but the combination of the two definitely worked. Now I ca keep my Mango

I also flashed 2.12 earlier today and have just now done a reset (in the "About" menu) and am going to see if it helps with the BL. Mine was down to about 45% after just probably 3 or 4 hours...in standby. Not being used at all.

Regarding flashing the 2.12 radio and then resetting it, something helped. I won't say flashing the 2.12 radio helped because I flashed it first and later I did the reset. My HD2 still drained faster than an old Chrysler sucking gas through a straw. But after the reset, it is still at about 85% since last evening about 8:30PM. It is currently 1:11PM the next day. So that gives me about 17 hours on this one charge. And no, I am not exaggerating. My previous post lists the time I flashed it to 2.12...actually before I made the post. And I just now took another look at it....about 5 minutes ago. It hasn't been used at all during that time period and, in fact, I haven't even set it up yet....no wifi, no syncing of any kind, not even signed into my account. After resetting it, I simply set it aside and did nothing with it. So lets see how it does after I begin using it again...syncing, turning on wireless and all.
My current is -318!!! And I only have 3G on. I tried the camera trich and it does nothing. Any other suggestions.

I'll help.
Put your HD2 in bootloader screen by powering off first, then press and hold the down-volume button and tap the power button. Hold the down-volume button till the red/green/white screen appears.
Then connect your HD2 to your PC and at the bottom is should say USB once Windows sees it.
Once you have the appropriate radio file downloaded and unzipped, open its folder and click the "LeoCustomRUU.exe" file. You may need to right-click and open it with "Run as Administrator".
Go through the checks and it will flash the radio. Once finished, disconnect your HD2 for your PC. It will reboot and your new radio is flashed.
Regarding the battery usage of my HD2 after a reset, I can report that I'm now seeing above normal battery life. Earlier today, around 1PM, I set up my HD2 and established all my accounts...3 email accounts, FB, Twitter with default syncing...and enabled wifi. All of the usual stuff I normally use except the installation of all my previous apps.
Currently the battery is exactly 70%, according to the built-in battery saver menu in the settings. It has not been charged since yesterday about 8:30PM. That's approaching 24 hours since a charge.
EDIT - I took a picture of the current battery condition. It shows time since last charge and time left on charge plus the current charge level.

I have been using the camera trick, but I don't really have faith in it that it is doing anything useful. Once I see how far this first charge will go, I will do more experimenting like not using the camera trick. Right now I want to leave my HD2 exactly like it is...not using it, just leaving it in standby...till the battery dies out.
It's actually not all that good for standby battery life. Being in standby, it should last much longer than the projected 54 hours on this one charge. My iPhone will last longer than a week in standby. My Inspire and other HD2 with Android lasts about the same as this, though.
And the reset I speak of is in the "Settings" > "About" screen. At the bottom of the screen is the "reset your phone" rectangular box.

Damn, that's nice I manage 1 day and 18 hours on a full charge, according to the battery saver app. As soon as I go to work I use the internet a little (Twitter/Facebook/IE). By the time I get to the office (40 minutes), it dropped a good 30%.
When i'm not using the phone, it's good, 1% per hour or so. As soon as I start using it a little, it goes down like an elevator on meth.
What I also noticed, is that when the signal is not very good, the battery will drain up to 6/7% per 30 minutes... i have no idea what that's about.
update: the camera trick is spradic.not working no more im back to 10 a day standby. i will give up and flash back to andr9d this wkend

[Q] battery issues after testing mango. help please

Hi to everyone
after death of my previous hd2, i bought a brand new one with fully working battery
i installed wp7 with no problem, but changed back to wm because it wasn't my taste. but after that, something strange is happening. my battery works fine, with regular rate between 100 and 60 percent. but after that, it suddenly start falling down (60 to 10 percent in half and hour) no hidden active program or network activity
i tested everything. tried different roms, radios, even getting back to original spl and stock rom. but nothing helped
is installing wp7 capable of damaging the battery?
is there any way to recalibrate or wipe HD2 battery?
does anyone have similar problem?
thanks
Hi!
Have you tried running you battery completely down and recharge it fully again several times? That "trick" helped me get some more juice out of mine Seems like the OS can't read the voltage correctly before it has had several complete cycles...

There has already been enough discussion on this topic..pls read this

The only solution that worked for me amongst all the options (based on my experience)
1. Tried the camera trick - NOT WORKED
2. Followed the steps below - NOT WORKED
* Boot the phone to MAGLDR
* Select "Reset" option from the menu
* Phone reboots normally
3. Hard reset the phone - NOT WORKED
4. Charge the phone in magldr USB storage option - NOT WORKED
5. Finally, flashed the 2.12 radio, did the camera trick (not sure if its relevant). The battery life has improved dramatically. It lasts more than 24 hours and still running (26% left) - WORKED.
Follow the thread below to download the 2.12 radio

Severe battery problem!

Hello,
I am facing a severe battery problem with my mini (not the well known battery consumption we all know about, this is something else).
First I thought there is something wrong with Windows Mobile and I hoped when going to the NAND version this would be solved but it is not.
Let me first explain what is going on. When I charged the battery on Windows Mobile it would not go higher than 40%. Even after one night it is still at 40%. When I unplug the phone it will drop to 5% in the next couple of hours. And then it will remain at 5% for more than 24 hours, sometimes even 2 days without shutting down!!!
So it is not the battery which has no capacity but the battery level which is completely wrong... This all started when I first began to play with the SD version (may be a coincidence?...)
With the Android SD version and now also with the NAND the battery will charge to 100%. But then it drops very fast and after two hours it is at 5% and then switches off. It seems as Android does switch off the device earlier than Windows Mobile. So I cannot use this at all, my mini will only run for two hours on Android while on Windows Mobile it was running for several hours at 5%...
To make sure it is not the battery I bought brand new batteries. Until today I bought four (yes 4!) new batteries but all have the exact same behaviour. With the last battery I bought I did go into recovery before booting the phone for the first time and cleared the battery stats. But still, the exact same behavior.
Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be? Is it a hardware fault of my mini? Or is there a little piece of code for the battery which is not overwritten when flashing NAND?
What could I do against it? Is there a way to prevent Android shutting down on low battery? As it seems the battery is not empty at all but Android thinks it is empty... Or can I somehow tweak the battery level? Let's say always add 5% to the battery level so Android will not shut down?
Any help would be highly appreciated!! Thanks!
Try task 2a than task 29
Munjeni, please forgive my ignorance. But how can I perform these tasks? From recovery?
Google is your friend . But only found those "task" fixes only related to HD2 and other phones, does this also work on Mini?
Yes, it working! Swisly, you need mtty.exe to perform task 2a and task 29, and you can not do it with recovery.
Ok, thanks. One more question: what is the equal to "POWER + Record + Pen Reset" for the mini? Do I need to flash back to Windows Mobile first?
No, go to 3 color screen and perform mtty tasks, after this you need to install wince becouse your device will be totaly erased

More info here
I managed to do a task 2a and a task 29, flashed everything from the beginning but unfortunately no luck. The problem remains...
I found an interesting thread here. http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/20337-battery-level-fix-for-512-firmware/
They somehow managed to adjust the fullvoltage and emptyvoltage. With this I could prevent the mini from shutting down too early
But I have no clue how to do this. Can anyone help me with this? Or is there an easier way of doing this in CM?
Thanks!
