ii have been watching my new revived htc desire hd2(means hd2 which runs android) and i've tried a couple of nand builds and dozens of sd builds for the battery life
and here is the result
considering the fact that sd builds use sd cards to operate they use 2 times more battery than nand build
and now my battery lasts almost 2 days more in nand , while in sd builds i couldn't get a day through with it
but due to some rmnet connection problems most of people are experiencing high battery drain like 150ma
if u want to really compare the battery performance u have to put both builds on flight mod and the try them
I'm experiencing high battery drain running AD from NAND.
With: GSM + Data connection (no wifi, no BT), 55mA when idle
In the same configuration running from SD...5-6mA when idle.
Tried to disable data connection when running from NAND, result is 54mA...
I re-calibrate the battery, but still high battery drain...
Don't know where to look for as the NAND configuration regarding power management is exactly the same as when running from SD(screen auto-adjust on like from SD, screen timeout set to 30s like from SD)
could u give a little bit more information about your nand build and the radio
there is also a possibility that programs are struggling in the background
so you'd better try a clean build like nexus one
how to improve power consumption? in standby the phone has peaks 5ma to 50-60ma constantly! How can I do to improve the consumption?
i have MDJ FroYo Revolution v.2.2 [RMNET][kernel:MDJ S9.2 OC
Radio 2.14
I have read that some people do a certain procedure with battery and then obtain the optimization of consumption, you can say, or how to describe me?

And regarding builds, both NAND and SD builds I used were Desire HD so it should be at least the same.

I followed the procedure:
-Charge the phone until full while the phone is totally off (shut down)
-Boot while the phone is plugged
-Delete the file batterystats.bin
-Unplugged the phone and wait until it is fully empty
-Reboot the phone to completely empty it
-Charge the phone until it's full
Done.
Im experienced high standby drain also. The only cure I found was to reboot the phone with the charger plugged in. If I just reboot it without plugging the charger, the battery drain stays about 50mA

ok look there are only two factors in the world that can cause battery drain
connection problem that is usually due to unsuitable radio and build
and background cpu involvement in applications that is caused by some applications
and it can be handled by task killer applications
except these two problems what really can cause battery drain?

In that final part:

Do I have to charge with phone off or on?
Am I missing something here? The title says "possible solution", but it's just a discussion about the fact that flight mode is the best way to compare SD and NAND consumption.
???
Have you tried the Radio drain fix?
- Enable gps+BT+WIFI
- Have a lock on GPS, wait for wifi and BT to go on
- Disable GPS+wifi+bt
This usually removes the 60ma drain, even if the GPS is off or has never been on.
>Most builds "forgot" to shut it off on start, but without showing the icon.

I always had the issue of battery life being short as hell, 60ma on standby
i even updated my radio to 2.14* the newest one forgot the name but no luck!
But recently i got good battery life 5ma on standby!!! After i flashed the newest ChuckyRom Lite Rom.
But yesterday it went back to sucking again after i restarted android. i restarted android before, but the thing i did different this time was have the charger plugged in when i booted into android.
So my question is to the people that have excellent android battery life, How do u boot into android? Do you Flash a new rom? Format your memory card? Do you use set cpu? ATK autokill?

I can easily go a day on one charge. And normally I boot into Android while charging. I don't think it matters tho cuz you have to unplug and replug your charger cable before android recognizes it. I'm running Kumars GTX and have a class 6 micro SD (helps with battery life). I also use set CPU and have a taskiller icon I normally press before I turn my screen off. Also I have 2.12_5 radio and had worse battery with 2.14. Hope this helps,

Android 1/2 day battery
with Custom Windows Builds my HD2 battery is good for 2-3 days
BUT
with Android builds after 1/2 a day or maximum 1 day the battery is game over
When booting into Android - is Windows running in Background and using resources
Then I would understand the drain,...

Lose the Taskiller icon, it does nothing but harm. First of all it uses extra battery, because most apps you kill will simply re-open quite shortly after, and secondly it may slow down your phone, or generate problems. Android works in a completely different way than Win(Mo/dows), here it's not a good thing to clear up ram.
The only occasion in which you should use a taskiller, is when an app goes mental and you need to shut it down somehow. For all other cases, don't use it. That's not my personal preference, but a fact that all Android-savvy people will confirm.
For me it sucks the battery out when I just use android
Standby I get 8-14mA, once I use some apps for few minutes it jumps up to 150-400mA :S
What can be the cause?

winmo IS NOT running in the background! android is not emulated or s.th. like that.
well maybe it has to do with usa hd2 or euro hd2? i have the usa version
its just realllllly odd that the battery varies sooo much from person to other
i have tried countless things to improve battery, search far and wide in these forums, but no luck.
and when i dont do a thing it does well at 6ma but then all of a sudden it raises to 60ma on standby, when i restart. (60ma is what i always get)
i even got the new sd card from htc free but no luck and its a samsung! (im pretty sure samsung is more reliable, no?)
MAYBE A FILE GETS CORRUPTED that has to do with power management?
just throwing ideas around, anyone have any other theories?
I recently was able to get better battery life, this is my setup
8 gig class 6 microsd
Radio: 2.10_50
WinMO Rom: ChuckyRoom-Tabtastic lite (Put in AIRPLANE MODE before booting Android)
Android: mDeejay froyo Z 1.3 rev.
I am not using setCpu, but I DO USE Taskiller
With this set up I am getting 4-7 mA drain in standby
My tips for battery life are in the FAQ in my sig.
This method is suitable for hd2 SD Android, not test on NAND mode. If you encounter problems as the standby battery consumption(50+ma), you can try this method to solve:
If you reboot android and monitor the standby battery drain is 3~5ma,do not happy too early and think that you get a good android rom, because after reboot,it will likely become 50+ma;
If you reboot android and monitor the standby battery drain is more than 50ma, do not despair, don't think that this version is so bad and you need to replace another immediately, because you can use this method below to fix:
Steps:
1, reboot WM, don't hurry, wait 1 minute, let's WM fully reboot, especially some softwares installed on SD but need to run when reboot. press the power button to turn off screen(not shutdown mobile), open the back cover, remove the TF card, the screen will light up, tap the power button again to turn off the screen (not shutdown), wait 10 seconds, insert the tf card, the screen lights up again, now boot android and monitor standby battery consumption, 90% under 10ma ----- In short, that is, before boot android, pull out and plug in TF card;
2, if fail, you need pull out and plug in battery before reboot WM, then repeat the above steps;
If works, please say thanks
Don't charger when monitor standby battery drain, please use currentwidget monitor and use its log function to record. What is "the standby power consumption" pls consult Mr. Google.
Other users reported that changing the sd to another one solved the high drain in standby for them, so you basically are saying the same.
I use the original 2GB card the few times I decide to test android, because first time I tested superram build, my 16GB card got wiped for some unknown reason; I may as well see if your method changes anything.
Worked for me! Tnx!
Had 50+mA wen using android sd, very annoying because in the beginning I had no problems.
Now it's back on 8mA! Tnx!
Thanks
Thanks for the solution, seems to work every now and then when i get high drain on standby ^^ thanks
At first try, this seems to work well. I was getting 60+ ma usage in standby with Darkstone's SuperRAM build, even with a fresh install. Going through this little bit of voodoo got my standby usage down to the 5-8ma range. Thanks for finding this, though I don't like thinking about how much trial and error it took to discover.
I just hope I don't have to do this every time I reboot.
Thanks...
Was getting low power usage through this morning, when I unplugged the phone from the charger. I had left Android running on the phone overnight. I discovered that the HD2 was back to using 60ma when I got back to work. Repeated the magic spell, and I was back down to 8ma in standby. Really strange. Does anyone have any kind of explanation for this behavior?
Wow thx work like a charm.
imrazor - My theory is by pulling the SD card out in WM you stop all applications that use the SD and when you boot android the SD card is only used by android. Well thats what I think ^^
The point is it works and we now have better MA in standby.
Sort of works
The SD fix does take the standby drain to around 7mA, however I can only wake the phone once. The next time I try to power up, my phone never cuts on, and I have to pull the battery.
This is exactly what I am looking for. I will try it. Is it possible to write a program in WM to do this instead of pulling out SD Card?

If someone can tell me what to kill, I can try do create this nice prog...
Any idea why it works?
Didn work for me... Dont know did I do it right? I normaly shutdown my phone, do those things with the sd card (plug in plug out) and when I start android continuesly 50-70mA on stanby.. I did the battery thing and still the same...
Have MIUI SD ROM.
Current changed from time to time from 5-8mA to 50-70mA and back.
Killing all applications sometime give effect to decrease current.
Switching off autolight sensor sometime give effect to decrease current.
Sometime call in/call out give increase current.
Switching off in-pocket and near-ear sensors (call settings) give good effect to decrease current.
...
continue testiing
my head is overheat
switching on near-ear sensor after call return power consumption to 60-70mA.
switching off near-ear sensor not give decrease current.
call in/out not give effect.
sw on/off auto backlight not give effect.
sometime callout decrease current to 6-8mA,
but best result give system restart

HD2 SD android standby battery drain 50+ma comes from 3 places:
1) What was running in Windows Mobile when you boot Android
2) The Android ROM you use
3) What is running in Android
1) The answer is turn off HTC Sense
When I turn off HTC Sense in Windows Mobile I get much better battery drain in Android. If I do not turn off HTC Sense then I usually get standby battery drain 50+ma. So flap can you create a nice prog to turn off HTC Sense etc. and then boot Android?
HTC Sense is not the only program. In addition to turning off Sense first, running a RAM cleaner (e.g. cleanRAM) in Windows Mobile will also help or - even better - reboot Windows Mobile without HTC Sense before launching Android.
2) use Portadroid to easily try different SD Android ROMs
3) see BetterBatteryStats
Cheers
Tom
I started having this problem one day randomly (after i installed some new apps). However, even after i installed all the new updates and apps the problem persisted. I tried this method you mentioned and now my battery standby drainage is back to 7mA (instead of 30-60mA). Don't know how it works, but it solved my problem. I have since reinstalled the apps that I wanted and it has been working fine for 24hours...
thanks man
hi i just ask you what mean Tf Crad? SD card or SIM card
Hello, it doesn't work for my HTC Leo. I have battery drain 230-800 ma on the latest MIUI SD ROM. Any idea what should I do next? Maybe I must change the program, that measure the battery current? Now I'm using CurrentWidget.
Thank you, I will test it.
hi i am currently running the latest version of android on my sd card-(americanandroid 4-2-11)...i noticed i only get about 3-4 hours of battery life on my phone with wifi, bluetooth off and screen timeout after 30 seconds..i have no active widgets on homescreen and the battery is brand new...what do you think is the problem???
ps.-- i am running a stock tmobile rom with radio 2.08...
SD Builds have bad battery usage, that's a fact. You can always try to flash a newer radio onto your device to improve battery usage, but I don't know if this is possible without problems because of your sim-locked phone. Solution to your simlock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612580
" -B) If you can NOT download stock 3.14 ROM from HTC site for your phone S/N
--This post(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8945325&postcount=28077) by the user oliverweidel for "branded" phone flashing steps and this post(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9614007&postcount=30954) "Gold Card Experience" by venomhtchd2 "
I also think the battery of your phone is getting "lazy". So you might want to switch to NAND roms (go for gingerbread as it has the best battery life) and maybe get a new battery for your phone.

I ran the AmericanAndroid[3/20/11] and had over 26 hours of battery life among which 18 was of heavy use. I had brightness on minimum(NO AUTO), Screen Time-out was 1 minute, WIFI always on since I don't use my HD2 with a data plan, Auto-Sync, 2G active on mobile network instead of 3G/H.
The reason how I achieved this was because of proper battery calibration. There are a few factors that affect it. The most important ones being the percentage your battery level was at when you first booted into Android how you charge your phone.
Here is what I did to "calibrate" :
1.Charged my phone to 100% for 6 hours straights while it was turned ON.
2. Power off the phone while it is still plugged in and left it to charge for another 15 minutes.
3. Unplugged, removed battery, pressed and held the power button on phone for 5 seconds.
4. Turned the phone back on and once I saw the Boot screen(Android), I plugged it in.
5. Deleted the battery stats file using the following in Terminal Emulator :
Code:
su
(Hit enter)
rm data/system/batterystats.bin
(Hit enter)
Once that's done, use your phone as much as you can. to drain the battery. Let your phone die by itself. Once it dies, keep turning it on until it doesn't turn on anymore. then plug it in and boot into Android as fast as you can. If you repeat this one more time, you should see significant improvement in your battery life.
This "tutorial" isn't mine. I read some of around here itself and found some of it on other forums dealing with battery care. All credit goes to those OPs of those TUTs
same problem here

Booted into windows for a while?
Hi all!
I tried yesterday [AUG12] AmeriCanAndroid AOSP HD2 GB2.3.5 CM7 build from SD card.
This was my first Android experience with HD2 and must say that i am impressed.
Didnt expected that everything will work so flawless. Deep respect to creators of this build.
I noticed only one problem so far. When i turn screen off (red button) and when i try to turn it on again there is a lag presence (3-10 secs) and again sometimes it turns on instantly. Is there maybe some fix for this behavior?! I mean i can live with this but ...
I have played with device intensive for 2 hours and than i leave it with wifi turned on overnight and battery duration was almost 14 h. Is this good because i dont know what to except from SD build ??
And should i use some autoloader before HTC Sense in WM loads as some advise to maximize batt life or that is no longer necesarry with new builds like this?!

This is a known problem with SD builds, don't worry it is normal.
To check the battery, use Current Widget from the android market, it should show 5-8 mA in my personal experience with the ACA SD build, although some people get even less than that apparently. I think that 14 hours seems a bit low, try using JuiceDefender (Android market) and SetCPU (here on XDA) to maximize battery life.
You may as well disable HTC Sense in Windows if you don't need to use it, and use an autoloader to load Android automatically, makes the whole thing more convenient and I also saw a minuscule improvement in battery life.
Thank you.
Current widget showing cca 160 mA drain in standby with JuiceDefender turned on (wifi and gsm are turned off).
Without JuiceDefender drain was about 230 mA
How to get such low values like 5-8 mA.
Android is started via haret.exe from WM (latest official 3.14 rom)?!
I tried to search but the results were not conclusive, so decided to start separate thread.
I installed NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.9a on an SD card to try it first, and I am running it from Windows Mobile through haret. Performance is good, everything seems to work fine, besides the battery life. It drains the battery in about 10% an hour. On Windows, it can last several days with the same type of usage, so it is not the battery.
Better battery stats does not show anything useful - it reports that the main consumption comes from the OS itself.
Nothing seems to alter that behavior significantly - I wiped and installed the ROM again, so that there are no applications of my own running. I turned off wifi, mobile data, and changed connection to 2G. That causes only minor variations in the battery drain. Played with the cpu governors - same thing, just minor improvements.
My device is T-Mobile HD2 with class 4 SD card. I used PPP when installing the build as the other setting did not work for me.
Has anybody experienced the same behavior? Do you think I will be better off if I put the ROM on NAND?

Try using NAND it does reduce battery usage by some percentage. But don't expect a big change in battery drain , it is common issue that we all are facing.
Battery should last about a day on normal usage. 10% per hour is a lot. Is your screen turned on? Screen takes most energy of all. Turn intensity down and let it turn to sleep in 30 secs or 1 minute.
Also, frequent battery checking drains battery too, so leave the phone alone
Don't use tools as juice defender, my opinion is they take more juice than they spare.
Sent from my NexusHD2 using xda app-developers app
and let the rom settle down for a day or so
becuase you cant really tell what the battery drain is after
a fresh rom install
Ok, if the range is around one day, then I do not think there is anything specific with my installation. It can be weaker battery or too much screen time. It was just too different than on win.
Thanks all

Battery drain will always be an issue as the battery really is too small for the phone. Have you tried setcpu or similar these cpu management programs seem to work to a degree in increasing battery life.
