Okay the g2 is now overclocked to 1.4mhz. What da hell. How they do that? So jealous. Still happy with n1 but you just can beat that. Currently on att with n1 buy can't wait for bell version of the desire z. Hope that cm6 is available by then. I am jealous.

Cyanogen posted a post on Twitter himself about this ! It's actually quit sick! HAHA but sorry to be a buzzkill but it is a little off topic for the forum.
Just tryin to keep up this amazing flowing forum we have now
Its easy, the newer snapdragon chips, (the 205s i think?) are a smaller fabrication size so they are easier to cool and do not draw as much electricity thus you can overclock them higher if you want... lets face it, our n1's arnt getting anymore younger
How high you can OC the cpu is only HALF the equation. The other part is stability.
"stability ", to me, means being able to use that speed all day long, running my usual stuff (including games) and not having issues (that are due to OC'ing.
Don't be jealous, our N1 is almost a year old and can still keep up with the latest and greatest... and don't forget, the N1 is Google's darling. We get the goodies first and in its purest form
(Before carriers mangle them)
1.4 Megahertz? Holy **** that's lightning fast!
edit: I know what you meant though, and it's very impressive.

Shouldn't that be 1.4 GHz or is it actually 1.4 MHz

i just figured stability was implied when you overclock lol... thats why we dont have anything above 1113mhz on our phones right now...
I believe this is more about bragging rights than anything. I've been underclocking my N1 for awhile now, and it runs perfectly without stutter.

been talking to alot of people and i get mixed responses. some like that **** faced windows phone 7 that i think was drawn up by a 2nd grader.
some want to wait for the next gen palm pre, which i may look into as well depending on specs.
epic or evo... these two are on the top of my list!
or wait and see what other droid phones sprint comes out with by 2011. aka hero2 or desire.
so anyways what do you think might be your next move from the hero?
I don't want an Evo..too damn big..and I don't want another clunky phone with a physical keyboard after getting used to my touch keyboard on my hero, coming from 5 TP2's....So..I guess a Desire would be nice if Sprint ever gets it,or a Hero 2 if that ever comes out..A little bit bigger screen would be nice with HD capabilities along with a 2g processor and 1g of memory

Yeap. I'd probably ditch Android in favor of a new WebOS phone too, as long as the hardware wasn't absolute crap like the Pre. That's the only reason I went Android actually, because of the damn hardware on the Pre.

Well.. I'll get whatever next-gen HTC phone comes out. My upgrade date isn't til April because I splurged before my upgrade date to get the Hero on launch day. I'm gonna get whatever replaces the Evo eventually.
Check these out this is why I held off on the the EVO or the other phones from this years second quarter. I cant wait for this.... as for the power think of the dual/quad core laptops and netbooks they have, they have power on demand and then the processor scale the freq back when not in use.

There's an old saying you should remember..
" It's better to have it and not need it,than to need it and not have it.."
Once you go to a larger screen, you will need more horse power under the hood.I have a co-worker who has to have the absolute latest thing out when it comes to cell phones..The guy has about 10 of them and a couple on different carriers..He has a Evo..and is getting a Epick as soon as he can..that's just hoiw he is..but he thinks my rooted Hero is da ****s and is ever bit as fast as his Evo the way it is stock. While I do like the large screen on it for viewing things,to me it comes down to the form factor of it. I just don't like how it feels in my hand and feels ungainly to me when I try to make a call on them..But hey..to each his own as they say.. I don't know what you can oc a Evo or Epick to,but I guess that's a option too if you need to bump it up some

The Evo doesnt overclock much. The highest kernel Iv personally seen was 1.2 something and most ppls phone would freeze when clocked to it. Mine can run right under 1.2ghz stable.

I'm sick of the lack of options for the X10 so I want to go with a new phone. I had a g1 previously and really liked it, so I imagine ill be happy with its successor as well.
Now, I don't really wanna buy an unlocked one from ebay, so the only option is to grab one outright here in town. The issue is that it's a bell phone and I'm with Rogers. Once rooted/flashed with a different rom, will it still be carrier locked? If not, is that something i can do myself?
Secondly, do you like it? How is the performance? The phone I have now is running a 1ghz processor and I don't really like the idea of going to one 200mhz slower.

Uhhh yeah, what he said ^^^
Well, both of you seem to love it. This is a good sign... I'm going to be interested in running CM7 on it come the time of release. As far as kernels + ROM's go, I remember for flashing my G1 I had to do the ROM AND the kernel. I rooted/flashed my dad's Desire Z last week (which is why I'm considering the phone) and noticed I didn't need a kernel.
By the looks of things there's quite a variety out there, and a lot of them have some sort of OC mod... will any of those work with CyanogenMod, or are they ROM specific?
I've pretty much decided on this phone now, looking at benchmarks and what it's capable of; I'm really excited.
The G1 was a great phone, had one too, and the G2/Desire Z is an awesome upgrade from it.
After rooting/flashing a new rom it will NOT be unlocked, although there are ways to unlock it yourself, in the wiki.
Link here: Wiki
For your second question, I love this phone as its fairly customisable and quick. Although it is 200mhz slower, don't fret as it is a second-gen processor, scorpion, and is underclocked for better battery life.
Even if it is underclocked to 800mhz, it runs as well, if not better as the first-gen processor, snapdragon.

I'm definitely going to overclock the CPU. I mean... the past 3 computers I've owned have had really high overclocks. This only makes sense.
Thanks for the link to the unlock method, it's really straight forward. I just don't have a SIM card for the carrier that it's coming on... I should still be able to do everything for the unlock without a SIM in the phone eh? lol

Man, who really cares about a 3000+ quadrant? I do not know what mine is but everything loads up and runs as at a very fast and respectable time on my Vibrant. No doubt that 2.3 optimizes the hummingbird cpu which would make things even faster but I believe rather than focusing on increasing quadrant and all those score benchmarks, Samsung should work on other aspects of the phone such as setting the benchmark on excellent battery life and other parts of the phone.

lol, thats an old video. Samsung even stated it was pre release unfinished software that wasnt properly optimized for the chipset. That was back when the SGS2 was only hitting like 1600 Quads. Every review out now for even the unfinished 1ghz (its launching at 1.2ghz) says its lag free and fast as all heckity-do-da. The 3000+ quad score is a reflection of that. No worries!!
As far as battery, its a 1650mhz battery in there instead of the 1500 in the SGS and the dual cores are supposed to be better on battery life, so *hopefully* it should improve it a bit over current stuff.
Im totally stoked for it. The phone comes with so many options and things it can do it should keep us busy tinkering with it for a while to come.
I agree it will be the best phone of 2011 unless they actually get production tegra3's out the door before the end of the year.... then it will still be the best.. just not the most powerful..

A quadrant score says it all? Quadrant has proven to be inaccurate reflection of use responsiveness. And HTC makes very good hardware. You're very opinionated, and that article is far from fact. Though it looks nice it did lag in the video.

I just read about this and thought it was interesting. Certainly provides another awesome alternative in Sprint's ever growing Android line up.
http://mobile.engadget.com/2011/05/05/htcs-kingdom-destined-for-sprint-now-with-less-blurrycam-and-m/
Kingdom is the $50 phone option for bad credit, poor people.
Or the doesn't like super big badass phone but wanted one with some pep
Interesting . . . when I first heard about the Kingdom possibly being the EVO3d I figured it would include things too powerful for a flawless port to my current EVO.
Looking at the specs they have laid out for that, I imagine that a flawless port should be quite possible if Virus and crew keep up their awesome work.
So a new phone that's just a squeak better than the evo? I mean it does have the qHD screen so that alone might make it worth it if the price is right.
I would totally rock that device. Although my real intent is to get the 3d.

I OC my phone to 1152, so its pretty much the same as this phone stock lol. So yea besides the slight bump and ram and a sharper screen it's an EVO 1.5.
I don't think I could go back to a 4" screen.
Its not the same as ocing an evo though. Its a second Gen processer like how the shift beats the evo even though its clocked lower.

I'm guessing that this is Sprint's alternative to Verizon's Droid Incredible 2. The thing I am confused about is that I keep seeing that it runs on the MSM7630. I thought that it was an 800MHz chip?

That chip runs at three speeds... 800 1ghz and 1.3 ghz. Probably the 1.3 ghz version under clocked.

Im not sure what's worse, pantech or kyocera. I think pantech phones would be alright if the UI was better.

I said this a couple of weeks ago. By the time the 3D comes out there will be 3 or 4 more phones with better specs set to drop a couple weeks/months later. Look at the Samsung phone that just leaked on Tmobile.. the Hercules.

It's not just hardware you have to look at, it's also software. I'm not a huge fan of Sense, but Sense is pretty smooth.

Your point was by the time the 3d is out, there will be faster devices out. You then referenced the Hercules, which will most likely have near same performance of the 3d, but probably borked support from Samsung.
Interesting...but pantech? No thanks.
This epic reply brought to you by none other than my roxx'd out Evo.
Correct me if I'm wrong, might be same family but isn't the 3d at 1.2 dual core?
And I totally get your point, I feel outdated just three months later. Same reason I'm holding off on a tablet...ipad is a perfect example, couple months after spending 600 or so my friend feels like an idiot just a few months later he's considering another 600 just cuz of the stupid camera...

Get over it. Buy a phone you like, enjoy it, and get past the need for having the latest and greatest. Phone envy is a *****. Either that, or man up every 6 months and fork out the dough for the newest on the market. Technology will always be 2 steps ahead of you, that's just the way it is.

Truth.
Not sure this is exactly a new thing, across the board as a whole. Always something better around the corner. And what's there to be bothered about something being better than something you don't even own yet ... ? Whether or not it is 'entirely' better or 'marginally' better.
And talk about not wanting to buy a Samsung device ... but a Pantech?

Yup the evo 3d is undervolted to 1.2 ghz for minimum battery drain but will be overclocked soon enough, just look at the g2 overclock threads to see the potential qualcomm chips have.
After a year with my evo, I believe I can easily wait until next year to upgrade since every phone coming out has specs bumps and nothing else . Just because a better spec laptop comes out doesn't mean to run out and get it.
It will be hard but I'm sure ill hold off on the evo 3d and get the next gen evo next july.
What's the point of this thread? The EVO3D has a better screen, higher resolution, and although the clock speed is 1.2 gigahertz, it will easily be able to overclock significantly higher.
The G2, as someone else mentioned, has been overclocked up to 2 gigahertz. A G2, which has an older chipset and has a stock speed of merely 800 MHz.
