You guys have seen this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798782
I've installed it right now. At the moment I've some problems loading new emails (sending emails is no problem), but it is really looking great. Especially if you are running a lower density.
Let's give that project on the Captivate forum some boost
Looks great, but have to wait for a while because I really need my exchange

I'm running the leaked version of the Cingular rom and while I know this isn't final I was kinda hoping that some things would get fixed. One of them being the missing email problem.
After a few hours receiving a email it just disappears into thin air!!!!! and yes I have it set to always show emails no matter how old they are..
Where are my emails going? I want to keep ALL my emails until I decide to delete them..
Anyone got any suggestions? I have tried everything and nothing works..
Out of curiosity am I the only one on a 8525 that has this problem?
Have you used the site search, and tried the retrieve 999kb header fix?
Yes and they still dissapear..
I have tried everything..
i too am having this problem. you are not alone. guess now i will be trying out 3rd party mail clients for the time being. everything else with the upgrade is fantastic so im not going back
This is still an issue with me also. Using a verizon pop3 account.

In order to help, we need to know what pop account you are using... for instance, I had this problem with Gmail messages disappearing after a couple of hours to a day... found out that there is a non published setting that appears when using the phone's auto config feature... Let me explain...
when setting up the pop3 account for gmail, the settings are as included on their website... problem is that I have my outlook connected at home and constantly checking messages, and is configured to leave messages on server.... But with the other machine pulling the messages, for some reason they disappear on my TyTN even though I have it set to grab messages for the last 7 days...
what the auto config feature has done was to add "recent:" without the quotes in front of my account name, so it reads "recent:[email protected]"... Once that was done, my messages stopped automatically disappearing... Try it, what do you have to lose that you haven't lost already...

The first setup I edited out the "recent" and had the disappearing mail problem - I deleted that email account and ran the setup again leaving the "recent:" text in and bingo my Gmail works as it should on my P3600i.
Thanks for the tip.
PS. The only bug now is that the mail that I sent also appears in the Inbox - is there a way to correct this?
Hi all,
Love the X1 but have a few niggles which bother me on a daily basis:
1. Email Signature
When ever I have reset the phone or lost power for some reason, my signature reverts to the "sent from my x1" signature. Have to change it back each time. Oddly, it only happens to the signature on my Exchange email, the Gmail one I use is not affected. It stays as what I set it as.
2. Reply All
I noticed this one on my crappy Omnia (had 3 in a row, all faulty). Must be a WM6.1 thing... When I am on the To part of the email, I select Reply All and it decides to send me my reply. How stupid!
Has anyone else seen these issues please?
Open the file explorer of your choice. Go to \Windows\Autostart\ or \Windows\Startup\ (depending on your ROM) and delete the file SignatureReplicator.exe, voila, you can now set your own exchange e-mail signature.
Thanks for that!! Brilliant answer.
I assume the Reply all issue just bothers all WM6.1 users and I have to live with it?

Regarding the reply all issues, check out the link below:
http://blogs.msdn.com/outlook_mobile/archive/2006/03/22/558605.aspx
Basically it is saying that Messaging does not really know who you are, so to work around that issue, you have to enter your email address for that account.
There are instructions shown in the link.
Hope it helps.
This is really nice to have this stupid little problem fixed, thanks!
Odd - if you set up a new account (I have a gmx account) you don't get these issues... I think it only applies to the default outlook inbox account. My GMX account is a seperate inbox........

Guys,
do you know where to find the html file for a new mail composer in WM6.1...?
All,
I'm sure, that this question is easy to answer for most of you:
Does the Tattoo supports an Exchange account? I have read that it is not supported (only over third party apps)
Please help me out on that!
Thanks a lot in advance,
Asterix
A friend told me that it does support MS Exchange.
He is using it.
But he sad that he just can't download attachments so he has to send those emails to his gmail account and then to download them.
The Mail app allows you to add an MS Exchance account. But it has NEVER worked for my email account. It might work for yours... who knows... But the Tattoo does support Exchange server.
It does work, but there is an issue.
I have access to my work email (via Exchange Server and the Mail app) and it was very easy to set-up. It works really well, the app is quite nice. It will do things like listing your emails by conversation.
However, I can only read emails. I can't send emails.
This is a bug in Android. Not sure whether it is being fixed in 2.1. I do think you can get it to work though if you have help from your IT team. I have read that they can change some of the security permissions on the Exchange server (ie exclude you from certain protocols). I haven't tried it though.

works great
Hi Guys, I was having the same problem with not being able to send mails and download attachments, even the mails which were longer, wouldn't load fully.
I requested the company's IT team to take a look at it and they changed some settings as Admins on the exchange server to get it working (I believe Android does not provide remote-wipe/ pin-password lock feature to be enforced, they had to bypass the check for me)
Hope it helps.
I had the problem of emails not sending when I set my son's Tattoo up.
I then accessed remote.xxx.com (where xxx is my domain name) and got an error, I tried again and it said the certificate was invalid, once I accepted it it let me in. I tried to access the Internal web site and got the cert error again. I accepted the cert again and just got a blank page.
I exited and have since been able to send emails without a problem.
I believe it's a certificate problem but mine has somehow resolved itself.

Interesting.
Sadly, tried it and didn't seem to work for me. It just kept defaulting to our corporate webmail server. I had heard it was a certificate problem too, but also the remote wipe etc needed in the security settings on the server.
Great that you've got it working though.

no problem
Hi!
Thanks for all the answers. I got my Tattoo now, setting up the exchange account was no problem at all, everything working fine. Some parts are a little bit not as fine as I'm used from my WM phones in the past. (times to set up when it should get the mails, which folder should get synchronized,..)
Thanks,
Stefan
I spoke to soon.
My son's phone keeps on saying it can't send - so I received 10 copies of the same email until I deleted it from the outbox.
There is a definite problem - has anyone found a solution?
This is getting frustrating. I rooted my hero and installed the Damagecontrol 2.0.8.1 ROM specifically because I figured that 2.1 fixes the issue with sending mail via Exchange. The phone still does not send mail. It at least gives an error message, but the message is completely devoid of any real info.
Does anyone have any way to get the phone to send email? I can't believe that this has not been fixed in a whole year.
-Randy
Did a search on this forums only and came up with 7 threads.
Mail Exchange
I didn't read any as I don't use exchange.
But you might want to start there.
If that isn't enough, try search the whole of CDMA.
Thanks,
Bubba.
P.S. might try posting in Damagecontrol dev thread also.
None of those threads mention anything about the sending issue.
I can't believe no one else is using exchange sync.

I am using exchange on Fresh 2.0d with no issues. My exchange server is running exchange 2003.
I have mail and contacts sync'd through exchange.
I'm having the same issue on my Exchange server. It has to do with plain text, if you reply to an email I bet it works. You're probably running something like Mail Marshal which is blocking the email. After you've sent a new email check the sent on your Outlook, and you'll see it's there. It's this leak because it worked fine for me on 1.5
It has to be your specific exchange server setup. I'm using Exchange Server 2007 via ExchangeMyMail and no issues.
I use both a 2003 server and a 2007 server and I have no issues sending or anything. Biggest issue I have is that GAL doesn't come to the phone, I have to search to find names instead of browsing a list.
I agree it has to be your particular setting. Have you tried checking/unchecking the ssl connection option? I think I recall reading that you could receive but not send depending on that option and how your server ia setup.

I have had no problems with the 1.5 or 2.1 software in connecting to my exchange server. What does your mail administrator say? They could easily pull the server log files to see what is going on.
I am the mail administrator
Additional research shows that it is a problem specifically with HTC devices. They are not properly implementing the protocol.
The app is setting the "Content-Transfer-Encoding" to "utf-8" which is invalid.
My mail server is Zimbra 6.x, which uses the Exchange 2003 protocols. My guess is that the true Microsoft servers either have specific support for the non-compliant HTC devices, or just happen to work because Microsoft isn't closely following their own standards (which happens more than one would think).
Looks like there is an unofficial patch to work around this specific issue.
Maybe some enterprising person can fix HTC's buggy app for them and include it in a custom ROM. I really like the HTC mail app otherwise.

do you have access to this unofficial patch. I'd like to try it out.
From what I've learned, this isn't specific to HTC, it's an Android thing. There was only partial support for security policies in 1.5 and now more complete support in 2.1. I've been successfully sending/receiving Exchange emails, contacts, and calendar items (sending and accepting) in both 1.5 and 2.1.
In 1.5 I had to have the Exchange admin change the mobile device support setting to allow all devices. In 2.1 he was able to change it back and my Hero then enforced a security policy that made me enter a PIN every time I unlocked my phone.
There were some general Android-specific issues before, but this is specific to HTC's broken mail application.

All of the info and the patched file is there.
I am the Exchange 2007 admin here and I've never had an issue with my phone, on 1.5 or on 2.1 now. Both Damage's and the Fresh roms work fine to sync mail, contacts, and calendar items. I can send and receive just fine.
The global address list will not show up as a list, you will always have to search. That's the way it is implemented in OWA.
I would think that if you are not using Exchange Server, but someone else's implementation, it's not HTC that's at fault... It's more than likely the faulty implementation of the exchange clone.

I am using an Exchange Server that patch above isn't something I can use. I can receive emails, reply and forward but here's the zinger. when I compose it sends and the program known as mail marshal see's the email and stops it from sending. But when I go to my computer look in the sent folder the email shows up immediately. We've set Mail marshal to low and apparently the issue is with the Mail Format, and since I'm on 2003 the mail app doesn't let me change this option. I used Touchdown to see if this was the case, and BINGO I was able to compose without issue. Now I don't like the functionality of touchdown very much so I refuse to use it. Do you guys know of a workaround to change the mail format that's grayed out in the settings?
HTC's implementation is obviously wrong, as indicated by the details that have already been listed.
It looks like Exchange Server is either not checking for valid message headers (which doesn't surprise me), or is specifically allowing the invalid Content-Transfer-Encoding header.

I see a different error, but my error is with MailMarshal. Does anyone deal with MailMarshal?
I ran into this issue at work with MailMarshal. You need to add an exception into MailMarshal to allow incorrect types through.
I did this a few months ago so I don't remember off the top of my head exactly where the change was made. (Not at work right now)
I'll let you know if I remember.

This is what I had to do to get it working.
sorry...can't post links yet.
Go to mailmarshal site: m86security dot com
click on support and search for Q10166.
Read that article, it should help if you want to implement it.

Thanks I'll do this when I get to work tomorrow.
It seems that in the mail client I cannot search or sort the inbox.
Is this correct or am I missing something ?
If not then that is a major shortcoming.
Also, I cannot secify a number of days of mail to download.
I can do all these things in Gingerbread, why not in Honeycomb ?
Any ideas ?

Sadly these are shortcomings. That's why I decided within minutes of setting up my e-mail settings to subsequently remove them from the built-in default client, and to stick with a mix of web-based and local [Windows] access for now. At least I didn't lose any e-mails this way since it only downloads a copy of your messages, and will only delete e-mails if you tell it to (only for the Inbox).
