------------------------------------------------------------------
HOWTO UPGRADE TO JPM USING ODIN:
Download these files:
I9000XXJPM: http://www.multiupload.com/6T0NAZKKR0
I9000XXJM8: http://www.multiupload.com/FCYKST8QBO
Odin 1.3 & 803.pit: http://www.multiupload.com/4JLU4QHUV7
Galaxy S 512 pit: http://www.multiupload.com/I5WICSBFJ1
The password for these files is samfirmware.com if asked.
Before you flash JPM, samfirmware strongly recommend first flashing to JM8 with 512.pit, i.e. android 2.1.
If you're already on JM8, you can skip step 2. If you're on JPK and you flashed with 512.pit, you can skip step 2. If you flashed previously with 803.pit, you should install JM8 first, i.e. follow step 2. If in doubt, don't skip step 2!
------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1:
- Backup your data and apps. Really. Your internal and external SD card should be fine, but back them up too, just in case.
- Extract all rar files, using the password samfirmware.com
- I use 7zip for extracting, but if you prefer another app, go for it.
- you should at least have the following files:
JPM_JPM_U_JPM.tar
CODE_I9000XWJM8.tar
MODEM_I9000XXJM4.tar
Odin3 v1.3.exe
s1_odin_20100803.pit
s1_odin_20100512.pit
- If not, you missed one!
------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 2 - flash JM8:
- Open Odin
- Enable Re-Partition Checkbox
- Choose "s1_odin_20100512.pit" as PIT
- Choose "CODE_I9000XWJM8.tar" as PDA
- Choose "MODEM_I9000XXJM4.tar" as PHONE
- Leave CSC blank
- Start Phone in Download-Mode (see image at bottom)
- Connect Phone via USB
- "Start" Flash using odin
- Goto Recovery mode (see image at bottom) and do Factory Reset / Data Wipe
- Reboot, and wait for full start up to desktop. Unplug phone from USB.
- Close Odin.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 3 - Flash JPM:
- Open Odin
- make sure you UNTICK Re-Partition Checkbox (which is the default choice)
- Choose "s1_odin_20100803.pit" as PIT
- Choose "JPM_JPM_U_JPM.tar" as PDA
- Leave PHONE blank
- Leave CSC blank
- Start Phone in Download-Mode (see image at bottom)
- Connect Phone via USB
- "Start" Flash using odin
- Goto Recovery mode (see image at bottom) and do Factory Reset / Data Wipe
- Reboot, and wait for full start up. Unplug phone from USB.
- Close Odin.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Congrats! You now have Froyo XXJPM!

Hi mobilx,
So, just to confirm. I have JPK and used 512.pit, so I can go strait to to JPM just using 813.pit?, do you recommend to wipe before flashing or just after (I'm in doubt because of the re-partition unchecked method).
Anyway, thank you for your comment
The reason for flashing JM8 is to do repartition with 512.pit. So if you have flashed JPK with 512.pit and repartition enabled you can flash directly JPM/JP6 with 803.pit and re-partition disabled. That worked with me I did wipe after flashing.
THX,
worked for me from JPK (512 pit) -> direkt to JPM with 803 pit (with Factory Rest/ data wipe).
Cheers
I found out why the first step flash to JM8 is needed, if you installed froyo (JPK) previously with the 803.pit, or if you install straight to JPM/803.pit AND select the repartition option, thanks to hardcore:
"These XXJPM and XWJP6 update files do not contain the dbdata.rfs file, so when flashing using Odin, we should NOT select repartition, otherwise the /dbdata will be corrupted.
If you re-partitioned and get the /dbdata error, this can be fixed by flashing using Odin with a CSC file that contains a dbdata.rfs file, for example the one from DXJP1."
Flash from JPK to JPM
I have tried something to see if it work.
I did have jpk (pit 512) and wanted to upgrade to jpm, but with a much simpler way.
What i did was download jpm and used odin ti flash. I did NOT use any pit file. I figure that was not needed for i did not need to re-partition.
It worked without any problem.
I did rooted with the same way that i did root jpk. First flash i9000 kernel. Restarted and apply the update file.
Then flash back the jpm kernel with odin.
Restarted and all works.
All program was there and the settings for them.
Checked so my crc code was right and not kor. It was xec. The right one for me.
So all seems good
Next i Apply oclf.
That was not a problem either.
Quadrant score before oclf : 983
Quadrant score after oclf: 2084.
Edit1: all program on homscreen is gone and the default program is there. But all program is still installed and you can go to application drawer and put them again on homscreen.

voodoo fix is applicable?
People no need to use any PIT file or repartition at all to flash. Why are you guys over complicating things? I haven't repartitioned or use a PIT file since my first flash which was JM3 to JM5 a while back.
Thought I'd share my experience on flashing to JPM. I flashed from JM5 > JM7 > JM8 (over a period of a few weeks) and my product code changed to KOR when flashing to JM7/8. I then flashed to JPK via repartition and 512.pit. (still had the KOR product code.) I fixed the product code a few days ago via: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787163 (I'd recommend staying away from /efs folder, cos you can @*%£ stuff up)
I flashed to JPM today with 803.pit, and didn't select repartition. Worked like a charm. No changed product code or IMEI.
tl;dr: flashed to JPK a while ago with 512.pit and re-partition. Flashed to JPM early today morning with 803.pit and repartition not selected.

on a side note, I started making this topic 2 or 3 times earlier today. Was even going to use Aery's topic as a base for it.
awesome guide will try soon.
I followed the exact steps and for some reason, I don't have my data working... I'm on Bell's HSPA network and am wondering if I just screwed myself somehow by downloading this. Someone please help me
Edit: I notice in this version that in Mobile Network Settings, that under network mode, only GSM and WCDMA are available... were these the same settings as before in 2.1?
I tried using "Select Automatically" in Available Networks (even though it brings up Bell three times in the list after searching), but I still don't get data.
I AM however able to make and receive calls which is weird...
Help?
I can confirm its a good way to flash it.
Did the same, and its working.
Discuss JPK to JPM migration here
No internet or phone
I have downloaded 3 versions of 2.2 and followed all the steps (including this one), but I cannot get connected to the T-Mobile network. Everything seems to have installed normally, but I have no data connection and cannot use the phone. I put in the correct APN settings, but nothing changed.
I tried to revert to 2.1, but I get a similar error I had in one of the 2.2 versions. On bootup, it goes to "Android system recovery" and says that E: cannot mount and that multicsc cannot access to /system/csc/KOR/system/.
Also, I cannot figure out how to choose an option in the recovery menu either. I can switch between "reboot system now" and "wipe date/factory reset", but no button will select an option.
Any ideas?
I have a Samsung Vibrant on T-Mobile.
Anyone with sucess aplying The Fightspit's Circle Battery ?
Tried it and it doesn't change at all.
Thx
edit: tried version d and it works

Thanks for that super simple way Damian.
You just need to flash the new ROM from JPK to JPM non destructively and apply CF Root as directed. All data will be preserved and you will be good in 10 mins flat! Just dont use any PIT (can only be used when repartitioning) and repartition

READ BEFORE YOU FLASH: THIS FIRMWARE HAS A PROTECTED BOOTLOADER THAT WILL PREVENT YOU FROM FLASHING SAMSUNG OFFICIAL FIRMWARE.
MORE INFO HERE
I don't know if this process actually flash boot and spl because JM6 doesn't seem to have them, but you're on your own and I don't recommend you to do it.
Ok I'm going to make a detailed guide of how this worked for me because succeed depends a lot on which firmware you have in your tab. It's a good idea to start with JM6 since you can flash it completely if you have an older firmware or JMA (I guess you won't be able to flash it in the future if a new firmware is released). You won't lose your internal SD Card data but your phone will be factory reset.
1) Download JM6 from HERE
You'll get Odin 1.7 + PIT + PHONE + PDA + CSC.
2) Download JMA from here: HERE
3) Download JMC from here: HERE
4) Start Odin 1.7 and select:
*PIT P1_SMD_MAP.pit
*REPARTITION YES
*AUTO REBOOT YES
*F. RESET TIME YES
*PDA: CODE_P1000XXJM6.tar.md5
*PHONE: MODEM_P1000XXJM6.tar.md5
*CSC: CSC_P1000OXAJM6.tar.md5
5) Put your TAB in download mode: Turn it off, press POWER + VOL DOWN
6) Press start in ODIN and wait until process is completed. Your tab will REBOOT in download mode.
7) Now press POWER + VOL UP and when you see SAMSUNG logo RELEASE POWER BUT KEEP PRESSING VOL UP in order to enter recovery and let the TAB flash dbdata, it'll reboot and boot into android. (unplug your USB cable because Odin won't recognize it on some systems)
8) Open Odin 1.7 again or press RESET and select:
*PIT: NONE
*REPARTITION NO
*AUTO REBOOT YES
*F. RESET TIME YES
*PDA: JMA.tar (from JMA file obviously)
*PHONE: NONE
*CSC: NONE
9) Repeat 5), 6) and 7)
10) Open Odin 1.7 again or press RESET and select:
*PIT: NONE
*REPARTITION NO
*AUTO REBOOT YES
*F. RESET TIME YES
*PDA: P1000XXJMC_P1000OXAJMC_P1000XXJMA_HOME.tar (from JMC file obviously)
*PHONE: NONE
*CSC: NONE
11) Repeat 5), 6) and 7)
I have an AT&T TAB and this process worked for me.
If you need 850 + 1900 you only have to flash MODEM (PHONE button in ODIN) from HERE (modem_bell_i9000.zip) with No PIT, no repartition, no PDA and no CSC.
I hope this helps anybody and sorry about my english
EDIT: If for some strage reason you get the !!! --- !!! screen in your tab, don't panic. You can start the whole process again, Odin will detect your phone, it's a download mode anyway.
EDIT2: I always choose to wipe all my data. I use Titanium backup and I can get most of my data back from there. It's better to have a functional tab than a brick full of useless data. Wiping will always be safer.
EDIT3: Made some modifications to step 7. What you need to do is to enter recovery and that's it. It wasn't clear. Now I think you'll get it right. I didn't test it without step 7 but some people seems to be doing well without doing step 7. Maybe device is entering recovery automatically and flashing dbdata on its own (this is to be expected but sometimes it just doesn't happen).
What about rooting the device before you flash...?
Working great!!! However, I just didn't do step 7 in any of the 3 updates. What exactly do you mean in step 7? Which of the 4 options should I choose in Step 7?
Thanks

When flashing ends your device should install dbdata in recovery mode. Maybe with this procedure dbdata is flashed automatically when flashing JM6 at the beginning it's not necessary to do it manually.
If dbdata is not flashed you will not be able to boot android. Your device should display something like this when that happens (in recovery mode):
E:copy_dbdata_media:cant mount DBDATA: copy default media conent failed.

Click to collapse
But I guess you're ok
Just ignore step 7 if your device entered recovery mode automatically after flashing ended.
OP , did U enable the voice capabilities ? And what was your initial firmware ?
Do U feel confident to say that you can str8 go from whatever FW you have to JM6 as a full flash , and not anymore move your way up from JJ4 (russian FW ) ?

If by voice capabilities you mean putting a sim card, yes, I tried and it works fine. I didn't test it that much, just a few calls and a lot of gprs. My initial firmware was jk5.
If I had a firmware older than JJ4 I'd just try to flash JM6 directly. I'm guessing here but I think that flashing JM6 the way I flashed it (following another guide in another forum) is like a full flash, it shouldn't matter what you had before.
Maybe someone with more knowledge could throw a light in here. What I can tell you is that I'd do it. I'm one of those guys that learn the hard way, and I've never bricked a device for good.
You're like me then. I do not even have my Tab yet but my fingers are already so much itching. In the meanwhile I am reading and learning. I am totally new to Samsung but I've had my hands busy for the past year with my Nexus One, so quite confortable playing with rom/kernel/radio world .

Flashing for morons
Monrad, thanks, this is a super post.
Just for me and all the other morons in the world. Can you also please give a basic run through of what you've done. I have the following questions.
1) You have 3 waves of activities in your post: JM6, JMA, JMC. Generally, what is each wave doing?
2) Please would you also explain what the fields in Odin1.7 are for?
*PIT -does this set the partitions on Samsung tab?
*REPARTITION -if PIT file this is automatically selected
*AUTO REBOOT YES -why do I select yes
*F. RESET TIME YES -what's this one for?
*PDA: CODE_P1000XXJM6.tar.md5 -PDA is core PDA firmware?
*PHONE: MODEM_P1000XXJM6.tar.md5 -what does this do? load modem drivers?
*CSC: CSC_P1000OXAJM6.tar.md5 -I'm not sure what CSC stands for and does?
3) With regards to getting my dirty hands on the right firmware, when I go to http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-p1000.htm, I look at the latest firmware for Europe. At the bottom of the list are 3 downloads:
a) JM6, b) JMA, c) JMC. What are the differences between these firmwares. I understand that J = 2010, but don't know how to decrypt last two digits.
4) Which PIT should be used in Step 1 of your sequence? What are the PIT files at the bottom of the page (in Flash Tools Section) of http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-p1000.htm
5) I bricked my tab. I got it alive again, only by loading the JMA via Odin 1.7. Basically I put my Tab in Download Mode. Started Odin1.7. Used the Eur Pit file (referred to in my Step 4), and then loaded JMA.tar (extracted from JMA file mentioned in my Step 3). With all the check marks checked in Odin. That was it, and my Galaxy Tab rebooted and seems to work totally fine. Why would I do the other steps mentioned in your sequence? What benefit is there?
5a) Note when I do *#1234# I get:
PDA: blank
PHONE: P1000XXJMA
CSC: blank
the PDA and CSC show blank....is that why I should first load JM6 and follow your sequence? What functionality do I currently not have because of these blanks?
6) A question on rooting my Tab... what are the benefits to doing this?
Thanks for dealing with my long winded post! I really appreciate what you've done so far.
You are a good man, Monrad!
I followed steps and got my AT&T tab updated.
A word about wiping data: I had my Tab fully set up with original AT&T firmware and then I started installation I got into lots of trouble. Instead of recovery mode it went into blank screen with vertical white line (I suspect it did dbdata update behind it though), then it rebooted and my apps started crashing.
The only way to fix it was to get to setting and do factory reset. After that everything went by the book.
So you may want to clarify that data must be wiped from Android, unless you have some other way.
Thanks again
How and where do I find the Dbdata file ?
When I go for step 7 i get the "can´t mount" and "media content failed" messages.
Edit:

I now seems to work. But my *#1234# says jm6 even on the jmc firmware?
Anybody knows what is the differences between JMA and JMC ?
You don't need to flash JMA. You can go straight from JM6 to JMC
You can skip oen unnecessary step

Im on JM6

JUWE v5.0 XXJVP 2.3.4 GingerBread ROM ==WIPE VERSION== [PLEASE RATE THREAD]
THIS TUTORIAL WORKS FOR FLASHING THE NEW XXJVQ V5.1 ROM TOO
JUST GET THE V5.1 ROM PROVIDED BY JUWE BUT BEFORE FLASHING THE NEW ROM MAKE SURE YOU FLASH FIRST STOCK XXJVQ ROM AND MODEM , THEN FLASH A XXJVQ COMPATIBLE KERNEL WITH CWM SUPPORT VIA ODIN, THEN FLASH V5.1 ROM VIA CWM. SAME STEPS BUT NEWER FILES TO FLASH. HERE ARE THE OFFICIAL XXJVQ FILES [WITH GB BOOTLOADERS] (INSTALL NORMALLY WITH THE AUTOMATED SETUP, BUT MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN DOWNLOAD MODE) : http://www.multiupload.com/RTT74XVG7E.
-------------------------------------------
Install Samsung KIES Drivers (ONLY IF NOT INSTALLED)
Make sure you have at least 50% battery (just for safety)
Restore to Factory Settings via Recovery Mode
Wipe cache/Battery Stats via Recovery mode
Format internal/external SD Card (do it from windows with Quick Format FAT32, but enable mass storage from phone first and connect to PC via USB Cable or format directly from your phone)
EFS FOLDER (IMEI) WILL BE BACKED UP AUTOMATICALLY WHEN FLASHING THE ROM (if you encounter problems with IMEI after flashing use Nitrality and restore IMEI from there, Nitrality will do it automatically by the click of a button)
Copy Juwe ROM to internal SD Card
***SHUT DOWN PHONE AND REMOVE SIM CARD AND EXTERNAL SD CARD***
Enter Download Mode and connect smartphone to PC via USB cable
Enter Odin and click on PDA button and browse for stock XXJVP ROM (the 276 Mb one), ignore the CSC-MULTI FILE.
Click on PIT button and browse for PIT file. (MAKE SURE RE-PARTITION IS UNCHECKED AS THERE IS NO NEED FOR IT [re-partition option is a little buggy] | RE-PARTITION is needed only if you flashed a different PIT file prior to this one)
CHECK ONLY Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time if needed and click on START and wait for the GREEN PASS notification.
PIT and Stock ROM are to be flashed together.
EXIT ODIN and ENTER ODIN again and make sure you are in Download Mode again and connected to PC via USB cable.
Click on PDA button and browse for MODEM file and CHECK ONLY Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time if needed and click START.
Wait for the GREEN PASS notification, EXIT ODIN and ENTER ODIN AGAIN and make sure you are in Download Mode again while connected to PC via USB cable.
Click PDA button and browse for Semaphore Kernel JVP 1.20 and CHECK ONLY Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time if needed and click START.
Wait for the GREEN PASS notification and EXIT ODIN, DISCONNECT USB Cable.
RESTORE TO FACTORY SETTINGS AND WIPE CACHE/DALVIK CACHE/BATTERY STATS via ClockWorkMod Recovery as you have it by default now after you flashed Semaphore Kernel.
While in ClockWorkMod select "install zip from SD Card" and NOT "Apply update.zip" and browse for Juwe`s ROM you copied earlier to your internal SD Card.
Wait for the "Done..." message at the finish and WIPE CACHE/DALVIK CACHE/BATTERY STATS via ClockWorkMod Recovery and REBOOT SYSTEM.
Wait for the first BOOT (it takes a little longer) and follow the tutorial steps.
***SHUT DOWN PHONE AND INSERT SIM CARD AND EXTERNAL SD CARD THEN TURN ON PHONE (CHECK NETWORK OPERATOR SIGNAL)***
Now it`s time for battery calibration, in order to do that empty the battery until the phone shuts down and MAKE A FULL 100% CHARGE while the phone is shut down (let it for 5 hours to charge).
Empty battery again until the phone shuts down and make a FULL 100% CHARGE with the PHONE ON until you get the message
"FULLY CHARGED, UNPLUG CHARGER....".
AND THAT`S IT.YOU'RE GOOD TO GO.
IF YOU FOLLOW EVERY STEP WITH PATIENCE EVERYTHING WILL BE JUST PERFECT AT THE END.
THANK YOU JUWE AND THE OTHER DEVELOPERS WHICH CONTRIBUTED WITH EVERY PIECE OF THE PUZZLE TO MAKE THIS AMAZING ROM.
Here are all the files needed except Juwe`s ROM (Stock 2.3.4 GingerBread XXJVP ROM, MODEM,PIT,MULTI-CSC and Semaphore 1.20 Kernel) : The Download Link is in the attachment (see attached files below), or download directly from your phone [SCAN THIS BARCODE WITH QR DROID] :

FOR THOSE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT-CAMERA AND THOSE OF YOU WHICH DON`T HAVE EXT4 AFTER FLASHING OR THOSE OF YOU WHICH HAVE OTHER KERNEL RELATED PROBLEMS FLASH A DIFFERENT JVP KERNEL LIKE TALONDEV OR SPEEDMOD FOR EXAMPLE (IT SEEMS GALAXIAN IS A LITTLE BUGGY AT THE MOMENT).
KERNEL FLASHING GUIDE :
1.DISABLE LAGFIX
2.Wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache via ClockWorkMod>enter Download Mode>connect phone to PC via USB Cable>enter Odin>Click PDA button and browse for KERNEL and CHECK ONLY Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time if needed and click START.
3.Wait for the GREEN PASS notification and EXIT ODIN, DISCONNECT USB Cable, Wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache via ClockWorkMod, Reboot Phone.
[OPTIONAL] INSTALL CF-ROOT EXT4 1.3 ADDON AND ENABLE EXT4.
DOWNLOAD EXT4 ADDON FROM HERE : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1137595
*THIS TUTORIAL WORKS FOR ANY KERNEL THAT HAS TO BE FLASHED VIA ODIN*
I can confirm everything works with my install method.GPS,Bluethooth,WiFi,network operator, brightness, battery, email, sms, video calls,camera,etc...fast,stable,no hangs,no sd card read or write speed problems,no crashes or sudden reboots, very good launch response, battery usage for everything except display is between 2% and 15% but most of them are 2% or 4% (which is amazing),display between 35% and 45%.it cant get any better than this.
Quadrant Score 2047 with no overclock just the tweaks which come from this rom and ext4 installed.i think it's a very good score.no battery drain and my battery is not even calibrated yet.i'm very impressed. If I see anything else i'll keep posting.
to net sergiu,
File which is attached has rar ext, cannot opened in my odin.
What are the files needed to install and follow your guidance?
Sorry I'm Newbie. Full guide please
Model Number : GT i9000
Firmware : 2.3.3
Baseband : XXJVO
Kernel DC 2.7.3 JVP
ROM : Gingerreal v5.2
Asgard ver : unknown
1. Extract i9000XXJVP.rar anywhere you want.
2. You will now have i9000XXJVP Folder with all the files needed for flashing.
Odin3-v1.85 Folder where you will find Odin, Semaphore_kernel_JVP_1.2.0.tar which is the kernel file (you DO NOT have to extract this, leave it .tar as it is, Odin will open it), CODE_I9000XXJVP_CL264642_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5 which is the Stock XXJVP ROM File, GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVP.tar.md5 which you don`t need, just leave it there, MODEM_I9000XXJVP_REV_00_CL1019177.tar.md5 which is the MODEM File, s1_odin_20100512.pit which is the PIT File.
So these are the files you need to flash step by step as i explained in my tutorial.
Just take your time and don`t hurry, most of the people are too excited when it comes to new custom roms and they hurry with the flashing and mess everything up.Those are the people who say : "Hey this doesn`t work". Trust me it is absolutely impossible to fail this. If it works for me, it works for everybody.
Keep me posted if you need further assistance and good luck with the flashing.
Some people complained about some crashes regarding lockscreens like MIUI for example.I have no problems whatsoever.
And YES the Market App has a black skin, it doesn`t mean that it`s a real problem or something that is weird. It is simply a black skin instead of the usual green one.It is difficult for me to understand why some people consider this to be a problem.
But my advise would be to flash the WIPE Version because CLEAN INSTALLS are always better and you can report feedbacks more accurately this way.
Just use MyBackup Pro from Market and backup all your apps so you can restore them after installing the Wipe Version.
Thanks, net for your guidance.
It works for me. No problem so far. Btw about your first step, Chose Pit then start, for me it didn't work, so i chose pit and the chose the pda, then push start, it worked. Is there any effect later on my SGS?
Oh ya, about tweaks, CWM, EXt4, what should i chose? What do your suggest about those files? As i know my juwe's roms don't have lagfix..
Thanks for your attention & answered
...calibrating the battery right now. it takes a little longer to fully drain the battery. and yes, i got a reboot when i chose the MIUI lockscreen--simple solution is not to choose it again.
overall it's simply amazing!
nice tutorial gonna try it thx a million!!
Thanks, will give it a whirl.
Are there any specific instructions for those currently on a CM7 or MIUI based ROM?
Neoandresk you are right, forgot to say you have to flash pit and stock rom together then flash modem and kernel. But you will not experience any problems.I got no reboot problem with miui lockscreen.glad it helped some people so far.
Cwm comes with semaphore kernel and I do have ext4, I think it comes with juwe's rom or semaphore's kernel, dunno exactly but it's there for sure.
For 'AllDayOnXda' there are no specific instructions for users which come from CM7/MIUI based ROMs,this tutorial works for everyone no matter on what ROM you are because it is wipe version and odin doesn't really care on what you are, it just flashes what you feed it, aswell as cwm.
I did this, and never did i had any problems with Juwe's ROM. Nothing that the others had experienced. Thanks
This is exactly the same method that i allways use when i install any new or custom rom, specialy Juwe. And offcourse everything works
Very good Guide netsergiu !
Thanks for a brilliant guide mate,
however i seem to be getting force closes on phone process and briefly i lose connection to the mobile network..
Any ideas?
"Tepes4" regarding force closes, enter ClockWorkMod and Wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache, Restore to Factory Defaults (you will not lose ROM or kernel or any files that were flashed previously), if you still get force closes, flash semaphore kernel again via Odin while in Download Mode, use History Eraser from Market and wipe cache and everything and make sure you have ext4 activated.
Regarding the mobile network connection, flash just the modem again via Odin while in Download Mode and go to Network Mode and choose GSM only if you don`t use videocalls or 3G internet, it also improves battery life. Good luck!
*tutorial updated* (i think everything is pretty much covered now)
@ netsergiu
hi bro, I have just updated my sgs thru odin to xxjvp 2.3.4 (stock for everything, pit, pda, modem, csc) for the first time and it was a success.
i am interested to try this rom and on the process of downloading it now..
i have a few questions:
1.) will the battery be better with this one than stock xxjvp 2.3.4? or will it just be the same.
2.) is it alright if i do not touch the SD cards on my phone when i flash to juwe as i have so much files in it?
thanks in advance
Enter Odin and click on PDA button and browse for stock XXJVP ROM (the 276 Mb one), ignore the CSC-MULTI FILE.
Click to collapse
.
I can't find it, i think it's much better if you provide the filename in the guide.
I have downloaded and extracted the file you want us to download. It contains:
Odin3-v1.85
CODE_I9000XXJVP_CL264642_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVP.tar.md5
MODEM_I9000XXJVP_REV_00_CL1019177.tar.md5
s1_odin_20100512.pit
Semaphore_kernel_JVP_1.2.0.tar
I can't find the stock XXJVP because in the extracted files there's no 276MB one, the file CODE_I9000XXJVP_CL264642_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5 is 283MB
Please help.
Hi Everyone
my Galaxy S will not boot past the "Galaxy S" screen on startup. I have read several posts with the same problem and I have tried all suggestions that I have come across. Here is what I have tried so far:
Removed battery and sim card for several hours - no change
Went into recovery mode (volume up + power + home button). Received a "E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblkOp1 (No such file or directory)" and "E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD: copy default media content failed." error messages.
In recovery mode, performed a "wipe data/factory reset" to restore the phone back to default - still no change
Do i need to send my phone back to Samsung or take it to a phone shop? or can it be sorted at home?
Brian
Did this just randomly start to occur? did you drop the phone? or did you try to flash another rom & thus got stuck on boot?
If not, have you tried going in to download mode? (volume down + power + home button)
Go into download mode and flash a new ROM including bootloader. You should also tick 'Re-Partition' in Odin and use a PIT-file.

Well if you can get into the dl menu your phone is just fine.
Did you read jcspecs posted link?
When you go into download mode it means your phone is ready to flash new software, roms etc, it requires the use of a simple program called Odin (3.1 being the usual preferred choice), from there you install selected roms into it's interface, you then plug in your phone (in download mode) & you let it do it's thing, all being well you'll reboot & your Galaxy S will be born again, only bigger, better, stronger & faster
Let me encourage you into a simple set up to get your phone up & running before you do anything else, once done you can then spend more time reading a lot of stuff just like most of the rest of us has had to do, once you read you'll will be in a better position to decide whether to stick with what works or whether to change, the key is finding what you can & can't do, what works for you etc, trust me you'll get the hang of it & it's well worth it!
I'm assuming your phone is Galaxy S I9000? READ CLICK--> THIS <--CLICK GUIDE THOROUGHLY!
Also take a look at THIS for I9000 models
The idea is to flash your phone back to stock firmware using the correct tools & to then flash over it with seriously better software to show you just what it can & should look & behave like, it'll also hopefully stop you from ever connecting to Kies again.... READ, READ, READ
Also watch the youtube videos by Totallydubbed provided in the links, they will seriously help you out.
simply, Brian, I want to introduce this method for you.
Make yourself understood what is ODIN flash. Please try to search this forum or do a google search. I suggest you use the offical 2.3.4 JVP rom.
ODIN to flash the room.
1st of all, make sure your phone model definitely I9000, no T959 or others.
2nd, don't connect the KIES, and in the settings-->application-->(click this) USB debugging.
3. Download the relevant files for flashing rom. Sorry, I have no link 4 U yet, but I hope it can help.

You should also close all Kies-processes (the one in the taskbar right at the bottom (Win7) too.

As I said, You should watch the great videos by Totallydubbed in those links to get familiar with a few things.
The button sequence for download mode is long press (volume down + power + home button) until that image appears, be careful not to press too hard on those keys m8, you're gonna need them, let us know how you get on.
Thanks mate, i have managed to get into the download mode, just need to sit and go through what i actually have to do now

Is Odin3_v1.3.exe any good have found one but not sure
All the others have far too many links for me to understand lol

to be honest, if kies crashed your phone, and you aren't very tech, take it back and while you are at it remind samsung what a piece is sh*t kies is! It happens all too often and its about time they sorted it, failing that you can try as a above posts, and use odin to flash brew firmware

I have downloaded Darky Resurrection 10.1 file i have used Bitzipper to extract it but when i open Odin 1.7 i can find the PIT file but not the PDA file?
Please help this is driving me mad lol
Brian
At first you have to flash a Gingerbread-firmware from Samsung (NO custom-ROM) containing Gingerbread-bootloader with Odin (flash with PIT-file and Re-Partition ticked) and then anither kernel that brings CWM to you and finally flash the custom-ROM with CWM.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Brian,
It's easy to get confused with too much reading but the answer to your problem is already provided for you in the links however we'll try this.....
Flash Ficeto's Odin JVH base rom here it will root your phone & ready to go to Darky's
As provided
1. use Odin 3.1.3 to be 100% safe, make sure phone is not connected! then press pit file & track to the pit 512 & make sure repartition is ticked!
2. press PDA & track to the TAR file in the Ficeto folder, (do not unzip it!), assuming you've done this correctly you can put the phone into download mode
3. Once in download mode connect phone & wait 10-15 seconds before pressing start.
4. Assuming all of the above steps have went well the phone will be up & running & you can begin to set it up, accounts, wifi, settings etc, once you've done that check back here & let us know & we can then get you to the next step.
Please also say how strong/good your wifi, 3G, call & internet signals are too as you may need to flash through a few different modems to get back to the same quality you had before, then again you may not, however this is a minor step after so just get flashing the roms first.
If for any reason you cannot find Ficeto's PDA/TAR file in the folder it means you've downloaded the CWM version = (clockworkmod) instead, CWM is how you flash roms from an already up & running phone via the power button, so if this is the case just make sure you download the THIS ODIN VERSION from the link provided.
I didnt find any step-by-step tutorials about this on xda, which is kind of weird and because i have spare time and its 3:19am I decided to make this tutorial
EDIT: If you are coming from eclair, install a froyo ROM and make sure it has a bootloader. Remember, if you cancel an installation that changes your bootloader, or stop it in anyway, you may hardbrick your phone. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T CANCEL OR TRY TO PAUSE THE INSTALLATION, JUST LET IT FLASH SMOOTHLY. use a laptop if you can, just in case an unlucky power surge would stop the flashing process
EDIT2: Here is a good Tutorial video from xda user Tejas Ahobala (if you don't know what he is doing at the start, dont worry. He is doing a factory reset before flashing):
EDIT3: A word from one of the commenters:

Thanks a ton for this guide. I had rooted my phone a couple of months back but wasn't really able to figure out how to use ODIN to install a custom ROM all this while. A few pointers for others noobs...
1. The tip about some custom ROMs requiring a wipe data is important.
2. If you're already using CWM, use the 'shutdown' option and not the 'reboot' option when the phone reboots during the flashing process.

Here we go...
______________________________________________________________
Terms and words -->
Flashing ==> means installing a new ROM
ROM ==> is the operating system, any version of modded or un-modded android
Android ==> Google made operating system!!!
ODIN ==> Here, it means the program that you can use to flash ROMs on your phone (the phone im going to use here is samsung galaxy 3)
Soft brick ==> No, not the construction brick, this means you've got no working operating system or you have one but its damaged and you can't use it, so you cant see your homescreen, you only see a boot-loop when it wants to come up. You can view your recovery and boot loader (The download screen) when soft bricked, so you can easily fix this problem by re-flashing.
Hard brick ==> Similar to the construction brick, your phone with little hope of recovery without sending to the samsung base for repairs To avoid hard bricks, open the .TAR file which contains your ROM using winRAR, and check if it contains sbl.bin and boot.bin files or not. If it does contain, and you are nervous or this is your first time flashing etc, simply go and flash Kyrillos' ROM or Kyora ROM instead. (I'm not advertising, just stating a couple of ROMs that I know are safe) these ROMs can only soft brick your phone should the worse happen and there is no chance of hard brick
______________________________________________________________
Should this guide be followed carefully, nothing harmful can happen to your phone. Yet I wont take responsibility if something happens to your phone.

Stuff to download:
1) ODIN and a .OPS file, found Here, Or alternatively here.
2) The ROM, depending on what ROM you want there are different versions available. check This thread, the kitchens/ stock ROM packs part for stock ROMs, or if you want to try a custom ROM, try any other. I personally use Kyrillos' ROM, or Hillbeast's KyoraROM. Marcellusbe is praised highly by all for giving us the Cyanogenmod.
______________________________________________________________
1) Extract 'Flash tools.rar'
2) open Odin multi-downloader. This is how it's meant to look like.

}
NOTE: Sometimes some random error message with a korean writing pops up. dont worry, it's nothing, just press OK every time you see it
3) Press the OPS button located in the 'Select OPS' section, as shown in the image below. NOTE THAT YOU SHOULD ONLY USE THIS OPS FILE IF YOU HAVE SAMSUNG GALAXY 3. YOU MAY ENCOUNTER SERIOUS PROBLEMS IF YOU USE THIS OPS FILE WITH A DIFFERENT PHONE. (works with i5800 and i5801 as far as I know.)
4) Browse for the 'apollo_0531.ops' that came in the rar file with odin and select it.
5) Tick the One Package option located on the left side of the application.
6) The ROM that you have downloaded should have a .tar extension. If its a .rar file, open it. If it has a .tar file inside it, extract it and use it, but if it has some weird ass stuff in it that only Jesus and Chuck Norris understand the meaning of, you need to use the 'free rar extraction frog' application to turn it into a .tar file. Download it for free from here.
7) The above step was just to confirm if you have the right file, so you dont get any errors. Now just select One Package button that is highlighted in the picture and browse and select the .tar file.
8) Make sure you have ticked everything that I have ticked. Use picture from part 5.
9) Go to your phone. go to Settings->Applications->Development and tick USB debugging if its not already ticked.
10) make sure you have the device drivers, just install Samsung KIES from HERE to make sure you do have the drivers. If the page doesn't show, just Google 'download samsung KIES'
11) turn the phone off, take the USB out, and press volume up, home button (the big fat button in between the menu and back buttons) and the power button together. hold them until you see the 'FORCE UPLOAD BY KEY PRESSING' screen. Now plug the USB back in.
12) Odin will immediately recognize your phone, and there will be a yellow label, like so:
13) Double check that you haven't missed anything.
14) Press start! HERE
15) You will see a blue download screen, saying please don't interrupt. PLEASE DON'T INTERUPT IT!!!!
16) The process will finish and system will reboot one or two times. go have some tea and come back 15 minutes later. You should have the Rom of your desire working on your phone.
NOTE: Some custom ROMs require you to wipe system data and then wipe cache. don't forget to do that! restart phone after wiping the data etc. If you've flashed a custom Rom and the device is showing a stupid triangle with an exclamation mark inside it, dont panic, press the menu button and you will see the menu (This menu is called the recovery menu).
EDIT4: How to flash kernels (on galaxy3/apollo/5800/5801)
METHOD 1==>
1--> you go to the kernel thread and download their kernel. it is to be a .tar file. (eg g3mod.tar)
2--> follow steps 3 to 5 from above tutorial
3--> put phone in download mode (step 11) and connect with usb
4--> in odin, select the 'select as one package file' option and browse for the kernel .TAR file. select it.
5--> check youve done everything. YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE EVERYTHING IN THE TUTORIAL EXCEPT THIS TIME INSTEAD OF USING A ROM YOU'RE USING A KERNEL!!
6--> There is no need for wipe unless otherwise stated by the developer.
7--> congratz man, you got yourself a new kernel!!
OPTIONAL 8--> download setcpu from xda (you can also download off market and pay for it for the donation)
its really usefull, it lets you control how much your phone uses the cpu and you can undervolt the cpu etc, you will find more info on the setcpu thread.
METHOD2==> (Only works for some kernels)
1--> go to the g3mod website and download the .zip version of the kernel. (there is a .tar and .zip)
2--> put the .zip in the root of your sd card
3--> go to recovery mode by either using kyrillos' rom (press & hold power
then choose reboot into recovery) or by turning the phone off and pressing volume up and down and the power button all together. select install .zip from sdcard and then select your .zip you downloaded before.
4--> it will install. no wipe needed unless the dev says so. reboot. HAVE FUN!!
HOW TO FLASH ROMS USING SYSTEM.IMG
1) Download system.img from safe source, preferably provided by dev, or any other trusted member who knows what they are doing.
2) Flash g3mod ROM.
3) Copy the system.img and paste into this path in your sdcard:
sdcard/android/data/g3mod/roms/**there are several folders here, just paste the system.img to the folder that suits the rom's name**
4) Boot into recovery.
5) Go to Multiboot.
6) Select desired ROM.
7) Done

i may make vids about rooting and stuff as well, but im lazy and i think rudolf already done that, so im too late
the reason i made this was that when i first got my phone, it was february last year and the phone was running the eclair (so it sucked ) an i was being pushed by my friends that why i didnt have foryo and it took me literally something like 7 hours to find a 'followable' guide on flashing the xxjpa or something... anyway i thought having a really noob proof guide will be useful too ppl like me a year ago
nicely written

Does sd card and sim card also needs to be taken out before one start flashing?
Also how long does this procedure take (the flashing process)?
Thanks

after flashing it will work like newly released from factory you can restore and all but depending on if you wiped device after the flasing process you will lose data, thats why i said make a backup of your important stuff before flashing

Ok
so should I backup my sdcard contents also on my PC (wipe data will clear both memories sdcard as well as phone's)?
or shall I leave it as it is?
I use titanium backup. Backed up all the user apps using it.
Thanks
This Model is even Older than the Galaxy S SHW M110S but still in the market in third world countries .
The Flashing Procedure for this Korean Galaxy A is similar to the Korean Galaxy S But this model has limited ROM's and Rooting Kernels as it was not that popular once the Galaxy S was revealed three months later.

General advice prior to Flashing any phone
Its always best to do a "clean" install. meaning you should remove any old scripts, data, cache, junk before flashing a new ROM, this is like taking a bath before using new clothes. For some models it is a must do, for others it may not be a major problem or can be resolved by flashing the dbdata.rfs to clear out the remaining junk that you failed to remove before flashing . But if you had "lagfix" and did not undo it, it can cause internal SD card unavailable situation, which can be difficult to resolve.
Hence before flashing its advisable to
a) undo lagfix, IF you had any.
b) Do a factory reset by settings>Privacy> factory reset ( erase SD Card - optional , as formatting SD card could be too)
c) And even going into recovery to wipe everything is also good.
d) Removing SIM Card and External SD card ( makes it easier for phone to boot up initially after flashing a new ROM)
Doing this will give you a "Clean" install or fresh start for your phone.
Make sure your Battery Charge is more than 50%, Samsung requires you to have 100% charge when using KIES to upgrade.
Reminder, What you do with your Phone is your own responsibility, so do it at your own risk
Flashing Procedure
1). You need to Factory Reset Phone first go to settings >Privacy> factory reset also can be done in recovery
2) Power Down and Enter Recovery Mode and wipe data and wipe cache
3) Power down and remove battery, Then reinsert the battery and Enter Download Mode
4) Fireup Odin3 ver 1.32 on PC and Connect phone with USB cable to PC
5) Now select the ROM you had downloaded in Odin under PDA ( do not tick or press anything else ) and DON'T Interrupt flashing unless stuck for some time
6) Press Start Button on Odin3 and wait till is completed
7) Once phone has booted up and everything is working, power down and enter Recovery Mode, here you "factory Reset" phone one more time
That's it Now you will be using the new ROM you just flashed.

Really man ... This is a million $ thread ... I can just say WOW ...
Thanks
I am very thankful that i found this thread! At last! i am able to find roms for my phone. The sad part is, this phone was given to me, and i didn't know what they did because i found out that my Storage settings states Unavailable, and Available storage 0.00b. I tried flashing it with the stock rom you provided but an error that says like "the file is to large than tha target partition" something like that. Could please kindly direct me what to do? please! I would be very very thankful!

You need to strictly follow the flashing guide , remove eveything including SIM card and Ext SD card, and format Internal SD card ( If possible) in the phone. After that following the guide flash the DB 19 Stock ROM, to see, if you can recover from the corrupt partitions problem.

Sir, i did follow the flashing guide, but flashing the stock rom still say the same error: The file is too large than the target partition. BTW, there is no sd card in the phone while flashing. But still the same, stock rom say the same error, the other rom (custom?) succeed but still the same problem. Thank you!
Edit:
I think formatting the internal storage is impossible as there is 0.00b available in the phone storage status also the Format Storage cannot be clicked. Thanks!

The thing is , you need a PIT FILE to repartition, unfortunately, I cannot locate one, so you need to search for it. also I do not have this phone, for me to try extracting a PIT File or help you with other methods.
Alternatively, you can try to switch SD Cards, and that needs a modified CWM kernel as ell as an Ext SD card partitioned into two partitions.

Follow the guide above step by step and after that flash the EG04 or EI08 ROM, it comes in custom, rooted etc or the other after EG04 , will get you back to 2.3.4, remember to do all the wipes and steps.

Sorry mate, This Phone was only sold in Korea and only a few countries. Few month later, Galaxy S came out and died. I remember many many developers back in Korea cooking ROMs but in about 2011, all the development completely stopped and the Galaxy A community closed. Gingerbread and Froyo ROMs are all we've got.
Thank you very much for the ROM
