Like the title says... woke up to the HTC boot screen and it wont boot past it. I bought it on Nov. 18th so it has been 34 days and ATT will not replace it in store because it is 4 days past the return date. Warranty will cover it, but this is frustrating right before the holidays. BAck to the old Tilt2 I guess.
Watch out and always sync your pics and such to your zune software!
Woke up this morning, once again with a dead Surround. This was my replacement device that warranty covered from December. Another one is on the way from ATT, but I was wondering if there is some lemon law where I can get my money back or something? If my phone is going to keep dying every few months I don't want it.

in texas theres a lemon law but i dont know if you have one
The rep on the warranty line said after 2 or more FRU's they will negotiate a replacement device. Which is fine, as I may be negotiating for a different phone if this one dies.
Was it plugged in when it died?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
The first one died unplugged, moments after I woke up and shut my alarm off and unplugged it. The second one was plugged in and the bright white screen woke me up in the middle of the night. Both of them acted funny before they self-bricked, like forgetting my IE favorites and deleting some apps randomly.
I had this same problem. Replaced under warranty and so far I haven't had that same issue. I did have a different issue though, where it didn't read the whole memory properly as referenced in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916865
I'm worried this device is prone to failures, as I've now had two devices acting up. I'm trying to get AT&T to give me a different device, but they said I can only do same device exchanges under warranty.

They do in fact have a policy for device replacement for multiple FRU's. Meaning, if you are like me, and have already replaced two under warranty (meaning you are using your third device) if you have problems with the third they can negotiate an alternative device if it is still under warranty. Call the warranty exchange number over and over until you get someone who is knowledgeable and is willing to work with you. And keep calling with every complaint so they have it on file!
Good to know. I guess I'll just go and exchange it now and hope the next one either lasts forever or calls it quits ASAP. Warranty is running short these days :\
The warranty is one year from original purchase date or 90 days from activating the replacement device, whichever is longer.
My Surround also wouldnt boot up. happened last week. It was on my desk and not in use. I watched as it said goodbye and shut off. Battery drained and turned off, no big deal as I tend to let that happen before plugging it in for the night.. Only this time it wouldnt get past the white HTC screen. I did the whole volume button reset thing and still nothing. Ended up talking with HTC and getting it shipped to Texas to get it looked at. next day it was in the mail back home. Should be here in the next day or so.
Im curious to see if the paperwork will let me in on what happened. Although I sort of doubt it.
Awesome! I was under the impression it was just 90 days.
Talking about HTC Surround acting funny?
Well, mine likes too.
1. I used my phone as a alarm clock. Every night I connect it to the wall charger and leave it turned on resting on the night table. The next day guess what, I woke up late. The phone never sounded the alarm, in fact it won't make any sound at all. Have to reset it to return it to normal.
2. There have been a couple of times where I have not received calls in hours. When I press the power button to check the status, the phones goes throughout the complete power up sequence. But the phone was already powered on the last time I checked a couple hours ago and the battery is full. Its like it powered off by itself at anytime without warning!
3. Try to use the phone while charging and you'll notice touch screen response gets a a little jittery. But I found a "cure" for that. Hold your phone in away that your fingers make physical contact with the metal frame around the display. This will minimize the jittering effect on the touch screen.
4. Camera autofocus needs prescription lens. My HTC Surround digital camera have a hard time trying to focus on objects more than 15 feet away. It gives focus confirmation but the pictures always look blurry.
Those are some of the bugs I found in my HTC Surround purchased from AT&T last November. I'm sure they are not the only ones!
Those are known bugs, but seemingly have no correlation between devices randomly dying or not. My first surround had all those bugs and died, my second one showed little signs of any of those bugs and died anyways. Hoping my third one dies within warranty so I can get a new phone :/
I got my Galaxy S II this morning, and it's awesome, but I'm starting to get this problem which completely destroys the experience...
After using it for a while, the screen starts getting horizontal streaks (but no vertical streaks) that match the brightest colour in that row. For example, I have a facebook con on my homescreen and the entire vertical row gets more and more blue. This is the same for everything, and it's particularly bad with black text on a white background, where the whole line has a grey background...
Any one else with this problem or anyone with some advice? I'm starting to think I'll have to take it back.

I had to go through 4 phones to get a perfect one.
Exchange/ send it back right away.
If you bought it instore then check the new one there. If you bought it online.. =/ it might take some time to get a perfect one.
Damn, gonna take it back tommorow I think.
Are you in the US? What retailers in the US will take these back for exchanges?
No, I live in the UK and bought it in Phones4U
great so how the heck are we supposed to order from UK over here in the USA if we may potentially have to return multiple times just to get a good screen? sadness

Looks like I wont be returning it today... left it charging overnight with the phone off and started using it again this morning, been using it for about an hour now and no screen issues at all, before it would start appearing after about 10 minutes. :/ I've got 30 days to return it so i'll wait... just hope I dont get any long term screen problems, although this will hopefully come under the two year warranty...

Wow that is good news !!!
Remember those yellowish spots on iP4 screen? Maybe SGS2 also needs time to "cure" something in its screen?

Get a white screen up and wait till it dims down and check again. You should be able to still see those lines.

That's what I've been thinking! It did it one more time today, but only after the screen being on playing a 720p video for a couple of hours, and it hasn't done it since.

Done that, but there isn't any. It definetely isn't burn-in, the colour of the lines change depending on the brightest colour that is in that line, pretty hard to explain so I wish I could take pictures, but the only camera I have is the one on the phone, lol.

for every 100 owners of SGS2 there is only one who is an active poster here. And out of every 100 active posters , only like 1 would have issues. So do not worry and hope for luck!
Hey guys, about 3 weeks ago I bought a Galaxy S3 (after waiting for MONTHS to get one, by the way) at first I was delighted with the performance and looks, but after 3 days I noticed I had a stuck pixel (it was black, on a blue screen) using the *#0*# test
Okay, I got a bit sad and went to the store to get it replaced, and so I did, second one......noticed the same problem some time later
Tried AGAIN, went to the store, this time they let me open as many units as I wanted to , to find a perfect one, I went through SEVEN , ALL OF THEM with stuck pixels in some color (green, red, blue) after more than an hour looking I TOUGHT I found a flawless one.....went home with it to apply a screen protector, while I was doing that I found another stuck pixel, couldnt believe what I was seeing
Went to the store ONE MORE TIME to get ANOTHER replacement, the LAST one.....took it out of the box, and there it was, a black pixel on the green screen, just gave up and got my money back
What the hell is going on with samsung? I just wanted a flawless screen, afte all, its a state of the art device, should be flawless!!!
By the way Im from Brazil and the phones were all unbranded
Might be the imported batch .
Mine is flawless .
jje
Must be the batch, mine is flawless on the LCD test.
No stuck pixels here.
Perfect here too haha. Wait two weeks then go back and try again.

Perfect screen here too. Honestly, I have yet to buy a device with dead pixels or similiar flaws, lol. Guess I'm lucky.
Mine is flawless as well - no dead pixels at all. So you waited months? It was released at 29th of May, so in the worst case you waited about 1,5 months.
To be perfectly honest, I don't believe your story...
When I said "waited for months" I meant: I was going to buy the S2, after finding out the S3 was gonna come out I decided to wait, and in my country it was only released at the day I bought it (about 3 weeks ago) so yes, I waited for about 6 months just dreaming about it
If you dont believe me I have one good solution for you:
The big X on the upper right of your screen, click it and witness the magic
For everyone else I hope it was just a bad batch really, for christ sake I loved the device but I cant stand anything but perfection on a US$1000 handheld (its how much it costs here on Brazil)

He probably waited since it's announcement and possibly even before. But that's pointless to calculate, since one might say I've waited for years to get it... Which btw is true since I knew that more or less the 3.generation would be around roughly at the time my S1's 2year contract was over.
but after 3 days I noticed I had a stuck pixel

I'm very sure you've not found a single Samsung Galaxy i9X00 phone with a stuck pixel and you probably never will. AMOLED screens have no moving parts so the pixels cannot get stuck as with LCD but either die (dead pixel) or react too slow (lazy pixel). Factory-defects such as pixels lighting at the wrong time or shorting with others are of course also possible.
I went through SEVEN , ALL OF THEM with stuck pixels in some color

Have you actually tried apps designed for stuck pixel / dead pixel repair? Often enough the pixel can be revived regardless of whether it's an (O)LED or LCD screen.
My dear friend im sorry for using the wrong expression.....im used to LCD screens and I would call it a stuck pixel because it cant reproduce one especific color (for example the pixel which presents itself black on a blue screen)
Yes, I tried the "unstucking" apps, left them running for hours and hours, like 12 hours at least, it didnt make any difference
Guess I'll just have to wait 2 months and try again, lets hope Im luckier this time, since its not looking to be a general problem...
That was (very faint) humor, so don't take it too personal :silly:
I think everyone understood what you meant, you just used the wrong term for the technology in question
Hmm, that definitively sounds like a bad batch. However I'm surprised, since Samsung's quality control might let one or 2 units slip but ALL of them having defects? I dunno, but that kinda sounds strange...
Maybe your seller got duped into buying units which Samsung's quality control filtered out. Only a hypothesis but well...
On an interested side note: How hard or easy are the dead pixels to spot? Maybe some of us got them but are unable to notice.
The brain is very good at interpolating missing parts of an image or color. Also how bright was it in the room?
I've recently seen a darker splotch on the screen on the red color but can't find it anymore. (Maybe it was just dirt after all...)
Probably a bad batch, I also bought in Brazil and it is perfect.

Lets just get one thing straight, a black pixel is considered as a dead pixel, other colours are considered as stuck or bright pixels, it's also normal for a screen to have upto 3-5 pixels problem according to the international standard, so you are luck the shop will allow you get a refund after all the unboxed you did, not that anyone will blame you if you get a dead or stuck pixels in the middle of the screen is quite annoying.
anyway here is my story with problems
1 st unit was a in store inspection, out of the box the power button was stuck.
2nd unit, instore inspection the phone had a few specks of dust in screen.
3rd unit seems fine, and thats the unit I took home until I made and received call, although calls made instore were fine, 99.8% of them, the calls will just cut off between 3 minutes and 7 minutes.
Next day
4th unit had more dust in the screen.
5th unit had a black dead pixel in blue screen.
6th unit with instore inspection seem ok, took this home and then I noticed there was a problem with the wifi.
Phone detects wifi but won't connect, just saves into the memory and sometimes it will connect.
Also my router has 3 ssid set, guest, 5ghz and 2.4ghz, most of the time it will just detect one of the 3 ssid while the other 2 will be detected about 5-7 minutes later.
I also have one of the air drive where i can stream music or video from a portable box, most of the time it won't even connect, but the phone detect the signal, if it connects, it won't stream.
If a wifi signal connects, just moving a meter or two away from the router will disconnect.
In all cases the wifi signal detected is very strong.
Next day
7th unit in store inspection found a dark grey stuck pixel in a dark grey background using pixel testers.
8th unit, the greyish silver side of the phone was made very bad.
Next day did not exchange phones
9th unit one tiny speck of dust right at the top of the right corner of the screen.
10th unit, there were two white spot on the bezel, one next to the ear piece and sensor and the other on the side near the volume, both on top next to the screen.
before I check the 9th and 10th phone I did say I will check 2 more unit and if unlucky I will return it to samsung and have the phone's wifi fixed instead, as I did have a good screen.
Well I took the 9th phone as the 1 speck of dust didn't stand out that much.
upto now the phone is working very well.
there you go, my short story.
It's interesting to see that there seem to be quality control issues with devices sold by Hong-Kong retailer and a brazilian retailer.
Both locations are known to have a lot of fake or "fell of the truck" electronic devices, so I stand by my earlier hypothesis that they might not be devices from a batch Samsung ever intended for sale.
(This does not mean the seller knew about it, any part of the delivery chain can be the cause)
Any one can tell me what may be the cause and how can i fix it , the screen is working properly but this yellow colour is just annoying and i think it increases with usage

Nexus 10 yellow blotches on screen
I'm having the exact same problem on a year old nexus 10, that is a central pale yellow brown stain most visible on a white background.
It looks like a nicotine stain as if some heavy smoker had been handling the screen. Initially I thought the screen protector had yellowed so I removed it but no improvement at all.
Have others seen this problem? Any solution?
Not a solution but the problem is down to the individual colour LEDs
Additive colour: red + green = yellow. Yellow + blue = white
Going to bump this thread, I just recently purchased a used Nexus 10 from someone and have this same issue, short of sending this to get repaired (out of warranty) is there any known fixes?
I have looked all over and have not found anything, the only viable thing I found which was Display Control by franciscofranco does not work on the Nexus 10.
Any information would be appreciated.
Screen Yellowing
I've got the same issue of the screen turning a kind of dirty yellow on about 75% of the screen. I bought it on first day of sale release. I think the it's been yellowing for about 2 months or so. Also have gotten a significantly shorter battery life in the last couple of months or so. Thinking of putting in a new battery. Great unit. Getting kind of kludgy though. I have to keep killing apps that start up and run on their own.
Screen burn or whatever
Same happened to my original Nexus 10 after about 6 months. Now the replacement is doing the same, again after about 6 months!
I am wondering, how this could happend. My Nexus is over an year old and I couldn't find a yellow touch on the screan. What is the normal using scenario od your Tablet ?
I have the same problem with my Nexus 10 21 months old. Any solution?
Ive had mine for close to two years now, same issue. I even sent mine to samsung during the warranty period, but they are full on retard. They “updated“ the software then sent it back. They wasted just about 2 months of my time to do that.
I try my hardest to just ignore it nowadays.
Same boat for me.. Yellow tinge right where I see it..
Fine with videos and black background... Not been left on as always had it screen off after a minute of no use...
Just been usual usage over the last two years..I must admit..lots of usage each and everyday but what pisses me off is my TF101 screen which is two years older almost and still OK...
Seems there is no screens around as well as been hunting high and low on the net..
If you have this problem head to the google groups page and post so that others know..

I have posted in a few spots detailing my screen issue and I'm normally a very decisive person but this time I'm really on the fence and would like some input
About a week and half ago I began to notice a small red airbrush looking circle in the middle of my screen. It was centered left to right and favoring the bottom half of the screen. It appeared on dark backgrounds only. Over the next 12 hours it came and went, varying in intensity. Of course I researched it and found numerous accounts of a similar phenomenon where a blue dot was appearing on Moto X 2014 phone's and it was caused by blunt force to the screen or back of the phone. That couldn't possibly be my cause, it just didn't happen. I searched here for the Pure and found a single thread talking again about the "blue blemish" but that's it.
I immediately make up my mind it is not something I'm going to live with as I couldn't keep my eyes off of it. My wife, of course, said I was being to picky but she's lived with a dead pixel on her iPhone since it was brand new. So I don't respect her input here. Well I wake up the next day and it's gone. Totally gone. I tell myself maybe it was a fluke. Maybe I was too drunk and exaggerating things. I said F-it, I'll just let it ride. 8 days later, it reappeared first thing in the morning. I had a very busy day so the next time I picked up my phone around lunchtime it was gone and has not resurfaced. I called Motorola and they immediately offered a replacement which I agreed to and it's en route as we speak.
So here's the thing. I like this phone more than any other phone I've ever owned. I rooted it, I have it set up just like I want it and for the first time I am confident I'll use this phone for years instead of just months like I normally do. I just don't know how I feel taking a refurbished phone in its place. I normally don't balk at the idea but I had two bad LG G4's in a row with reception issues and now this Pure I'm considering trading in has a screen issue that is only around 1% of the time. If I return this one, it could easily pass the tests and get sent back out to someone else. Everything else about this phone is acceptable to me.
Would you take the refurbished one or keep this one? I still have the warranty in tact if the screen acts up worse down the road. I have to mail back the phone within 5 days so I'll have limited time to test it out.

Go with the refurbished unit. You said the screen was really bugging you. You can always get another replacement if you don't like the one they send you.
