Couldnt find a GS3 without stuck pixels - Galaxy S III General

Hey guys, about 3 weeks ago I bought a Galaxy S3 (after waiting for MONTHS to get one, by the way) at first I was delighted with the performance and looks, but after 3 days I noticed I had a stuck pixel (it was black, on a blue screen) using the *#0*# test
Okay, I got a bit sad and went to the store to get it replaced, and so I did, second one......noticed the same problem some time later
Tried AGAIN, went to the store, this time they let me open as many units as I wanted to , to find a perfect one, I went through SEVEN , ALL OF THEM with stuck pixels in some color (green, red, blue) after more than an hour looking I TOUGHT I found a flawless one.....went home with it to apply a screen protector, while I was doing that I found another stuck pixel, couldnt believe what I was seeing
Went to the store ONE MORE TIME to get ANOTHER replacement, the LAST one.....took it out of the box, and there it was, a black pixel on the green screen, just gave up and got my money back
What the hell is going on with samsung? I just wanted a flawless screen, afte all, its a state of the art device, should be flawless!!!
By the way Im from Brazil and the phones were all unbranded

Might be the imported batch .
Mine is flawless .
jje

Must be the batch, mine is flawless on the LCD test.

No stuck pixels here.

Perfect here too haha. Wait two weeks then go back and try again.

Tested a few and no stuck pixels on any colour background. Bad batch for sure.

Perfect screen here too. Honestly, I have yet to buy a device with dead pixels or similiar flaws, lol. Guess I'm lucky.

Mine is flawless as well - no dead pixels at all. So you waited months? It was released at 29th of May, so in the worst case you waited about 1,5 months.
To be perfectly honest, I don't believe your story...

When I said "waited for months" I meant: I was going to buy the S2, after finding out the S3 was gonna come out I decided to wait, and in my country it was only released at the day I bought it (about 3 weeks ago) so yes, I waited for about 6 months just dreaming about it
If you dont believe me I have one good solution for you:
The big X on the upper right of your screen, click it and witness the magic
For everyone else I hope it was just a bad batch really, for christ sake I loved the device but I cant stand anything but perfection on a US$1000 handheld (its how much it costs here on Brazil)

He probably waited since it's announcement and possibly even before. But that's pointless to calculate, since one might say I've waited for years to get it... Which btw is true since I knew that more or less the 3.generation would be around roughly at the time my S1's 2year contract was over.
but after 3 days I noticed I had a stuck pixel

I'm very sure you've not found a single Samsung Galaxy i9X00 phone with a stuck pixel and you probably never will. AMOLED screens have no moving parts so the pixels cannot get stuck as with LCD but either die (dead pixel) or react too slow (lazy pixel). Factory-defects such as pixels lighting at the wrong time or shorting with others are of course also possible.
I went through SEVEN , ALL OF THEM with stuck pixels in some color

Have you actually tried apps designed for stuck pixel / dead pixel repair? Often enough the pixel can be revived regardless of whether it's an (O)LED or LCD screen.

My dear friend im sorry for using the wrong expression.....im used to LCD screens and I would call it a stuck pixel because it cant reproduce one especific color (for example the pixel which presents itself black on a blue screen)
Yes, I tried the "unstucking" apps, left them running for hours and hours, like 12 hours at least, it didnt make any difference
Guess I'll just have to wait 2 months and try again, lets hope Im luckier this time, since its not looking to be a general problem...

That was (very faint) humor, so don't take it too personal :silly:
I think everyone understood what you meant, you just used the wrong term for the technology in question
Hmm, that definitively sounds like a bad batch. However I'm surprised, since Samsung's quality control might let one or 2 units slip but ALL of them having defects? I dunno, but that kinda sounds strange...
Maybe your seller got duped into buying units which Samsung's quality control filtered out. Only a hypothesis but well...
On an interested side note: How hard or easy are the dead pixels to spot? Maybe some of us got them but are unable to notice.
The brain is very good at interpolating missing parts of an image or color. Also how bright was it in the room?
I've recently seen a darker splotch on the screen on the red color but can't find it anymore. (Maybe it was just dirt after all...)

Probably a bad batch, I also bought in Brazil and it is perfect.

Bought pre-ordered on phone from verizon - 32gb w/2 gb ram. Unit made in china (blue) - unit flies and screen is flawless

i had to take my gs3 back to the shop because of a fault with the phone but that was my own fault. but ye the man behind the counter said the gs3 has never had a problem no one has brought one back apart from me to the store so the phones that you went throught must have been fake or something because these are the beat phones out and you dont get any problems with them.

Lets just get one thing straight, a black pixel is considered as a dead pixel, other colours are considered as stuck or bright pixels, it's also normal for a screen to have upto 3-5 pixels problem according to the international standard, so you are luck the shop will allow you get a refund after all the unboxed you did, not that anyone will blame you if you get a dead or stuck pixels in the middle of the screen is quite annoying.
anyway here is my story with problems
1 st unit was a in store inspection, out of the box the power button was stuck.
2nd unit, instore inspection the phone had a few specks of dust in screen.
3rd unit seems fine, and thats the unit I took home until I made and received call, although calls made instore were fine, 99.8% of them, the calls will just cut off between 3 minutes and 7 minutes.
Next day
4th unit had more dust in the screen.
5th unit had a black dead pixel in blue screen.
6th unit with instore inspection seem ok, took this home and then I noticed there was a problem with the wifi.
Phone detects wifi but won't connect, just saves into the memory and sometimes it will connect.
Also my router has 3 ssid set, guest, 5ghz and 2.4ghz, most of the time it will just detect one of the 3 ssid while the other 2 will be detected about 5-7 minutes later.
I also have one of the air drive where i can stream music or video from a portable box, most of the time it won't even connect, but the phone detect the signal, if it connects, it won't stream.
If a wifi signal connects, just moving a meter or two away from the router will disconnect.
In all cases the wifi signal detected is very strong.
Next day
7th unit in store inspection found a dark grey stuck pixel in a dark grey background using pixel testers.
8th unit, the greyish silver side of the phone was made very bad.
Next day did not exchange phones
9th unit one tiny speck of dust right at the top of the right corner of the screen.
10th unit, there were two white spot on the bezel, one next to the ear piece and sensor and the other on the side near the volume, both on top next to the screen.
before I check the 9th and 10th phone I did say I will check 2 more unit and if unlucky I will return it to samsung and have the phone's wifi fixed instead, as I did have a good screen.
Well I took the 9th phone as the 1 speck of dust didn't stand out that much.
upto now the phone is working very well.
there you go, my short story.

It's interesting to see that there seem to be quality control issues with devices sold by Hong-Kong retailer and a brazilian retailer.
Both locations are known to have a lot of fake or "fell of the truck" electronic devices, so I stand by my earlier hypothesis that they might not be devices from a batch Samsung ever intended for sale.
(This does not mean the seller knew about it, any part of the delivery chain can be the cause)

Already onto my 2nd Hero. Dead pixels et al

Folks,
After complaining to T-mobile UK about the gap at the top of my G2's screen and a couple of dead pixels (see thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=542534) they kindly sent me another within 3 days. Unfortunately though this one has no gap (thanks) there are now 3 noticable dead pixels on the screen (most noticable on startup at t-mobile splash screen).
I just want to know if anyone else has had this problem and get a bead on what others are doing about it. Problem is now I have already had a swap out these guys are now saying the policy is to bring the phone into a t-mobile store and have it sent off to be checked which to me is TOTALLY unreasonable as the handset is supposed to be brand new.. ARRRGGGHH!!! Am I just being REALLY over the top? Should I just have to put up with the dead pixels??
i suppose it really does just depend on how bad they are.
I know you would just be on the edge of HTC's policy on pixels...they usually won't touch anything under four unless they're really obvious
Hmm.. Well there is one which is REALLY noticable during the startup and less so during operation. The other two are not quite as obvious during startup and practically invisible during normal ops. Thing I really want to know is whether or not this is common among users of this phone and they are just living with it as it doesn't really affect the use of the phone or is it just me that this is happening with?
People. If any of you are out there especially if you are on a UK t-mobile contract could you please try switching off your phone then switching it on and check you screen while the splash screen loads and see if you notice any dead pixels or see if you can get a black background and check.
I would be reluctant but prepared to put up with this if it were something which was the norm for the majority of new G2 handsets and really dont want to keep swapping my phone only for the dead pixels to be more noticable on the replacement. I guess it's just a peace of mind in numbers thing.
with current LCD technology, the odd dead pixel here and there is fairly normal, but thankfully not as wide spread as it used to be.
I've not seen any on the ones i have seen, and never had a dead pixel on the HTC built devices i have personally owned (going back to 2003/4), although my one and only PSP, which i bought the day it was released, had a crap load of them and was sold very soon afterwards!
I don't think it is particularly widespread to be honest, but there will always be one or two devices in a run that get a dodgy pixel or two.
have you checked the market to see if there is a pixel conditioning app? I'm sure i saw one somewhere. They don't always work, but it cant hurt to try...sometimes they come unstuck after a while.
oh, and i also have a t-mobile one. None on mine.
Dude.. Fortunately the only guy responding to this post is a guy who is being as helpful as you I can;t say I am even aware that pixel conditioning apps exist.. I'll have a look.
be lucky, i'm actually in a good mood at the moment! i guess it's the prescription painkillers i'm on (legitimately i might add...i'm not some sort of addict) overriding my natural hatred and grumpiness of being at work on a weekend....god bless opiates!
i've already pissed someone here off this morning before they kicked in!!
I bought a sim free Hero from Mobilefun. I'm now on my THIRD Hero due to replacing the last 2. The current one and first didn't have any screen issues but the second one did. As soon as i swithced it on, big bright spots. Sent it back straight away of course, as this is unacceptable.
The current one has a minor cosmetic flaw but I'm keeping it this time
Don't worry about being OTT about this. You pay a lot of money, you want something top notch.
Edit: Incidentally, Mobilefun customer service is the best I've experienced. Both handsets were replaced and in the palm of my hand again within 48 hours!

I have a t-mobile contract hero, I can't see any dead pixels on the splash screen.
There is a tiny gap at the top (ie you can see some copper if you hold it at the right angle to a bright light, but It seems to be the same as all around the rest of the screen and so it doesn't really worry me.
Dude.. As far as the gap in the screen goes there SHOULDN'T be one. I had one on the last handset and changed mine. As I explained this one has some dead pixels but the gap is gone. I repeat it should NOT be there. All manner of dust and debri will eventually get stuck in there and on the underside of the display I am sure. If you can change it I certainly would. I think I will be attempting to change mine again (sigh)
definitely should not be a gap.
my first one does not have one, i'm waiting to see what the state of the second one is when i get home this afternoon. i hope it's ok.
I have a dead pixel as well in the top left corner but it's only noticeable on the startup screen so I don't mind. It's actually quite common with LCDs, my girlfriends iPhone has a couple and I've had phones in the past with some. You can google nearly any phone and find people dead pixels..palm pre, iphone 3gs, blackberry etc. You can return it but then you run the risk of getting a phone with other issues or more dead pixels.
my HTC Hero has 3 dead pixels but they dont bother me at all .

You know i thought i had dead pixels at startup under the hero word, but when i loaded a pixel fixer app to check the dead pixes by cycleing different colours on the screen nothing showed im convinced the start up animation is glitched and makes it look like dead pixels!! get the app and check!!
I have a dead pixel too and mailed to the company from where i bought it. I mean, did pay a lot of money for it, 440€, so i expect a device wich has no dead pixels or gaps at all!! .
Let you know how things go.
cheers
I have 3 dead pixels on the startup screen one in the very top right. I don't notice them when the phone is in normal operation. if I get anymore I will be tempted to send. it back.

Sorry, now back to the topic....
second g2 arrived and no gap or dead pixels on that one either.
Right, I've decided to ring T mobile about replacing my Hero due to the gap. Will it be an issue that it's more than 7 days since I recieved my phone?
T-Mobile will usually try and be funny with anyone requesting the return of a handset after 7 days but just stick to your guns.. The item is faulty but not instantly noticable. If you catch the rigt person you will be ok.. Just try calling back a few times if necessary. I think half the time I get stuff from them I because i hassle them so much.
By the way.. Can anyone recommend a good pixel testing/fixing app??

Hardware fault

Hi all,
Wished that, for a first post in this forum, I would post something useful. But no, what I'm posting is probably the first user having a screen gone bad.
In the beginning, it happened when the battery went below around 50% and the brightness started going higher and higher to the point where the screen was completely white washed. Recently, the screen went to some kind of green colour taking over the whole screen (see pic attached).
The other phone functions work fine: sound, buttons, happtic feedback. Only the screen decided to die on me.
After multiple FW restores using different versions and only getting worse, I finally decided to call it a day and I will send it to Samsung Belgium for repair.
Hope that I just caught a bad one and that the Super AMOLED technology can survive time.
that is a weird problem, from the first description it sounded like if it got wet and it got damaged by the moisture trapped inside.
but it could simply be a defective screen.
when the screen is off, does it goes back to full BLACK?
or does it stays in that LCD like green/greyish colour?
Phone never went near water or humidity.
Yes, it goes to full black when off and the more it's off, the longer the screen hangs to its original "colours". Well, it used to but now it's worse.
Hi There,
I have problem with the i9000 screen too. Yesterday the screen brigtness suddenly gone up and the main problem is a lot of obvious color banding where things should gradient out smoothly. It looks like it is not having enough color depth, just like lowering your graphic card setting in Windows to 8 bit color or something.
Searching for stock ROM to flash back before I take it for replacement. Don't have much luck with the ROM so far.
Good luck with yours by the way.
Cheers,
It seems that you have the same symptoms that I have.
The only problem I'm having now is that the phone went back to normal after not using it for the last few days. Let's see how Samsung deals with this...
I've had a similar problem and sent it back for repair, as it became permanent after 2 weeks from the time I first noticed it.
Please look at my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7652167&postcount=8
and see if it is similar to your issue.
It's now in samsung's lab or something, so in the coming days they should tell me what's the matter with it and how it should be fixed.
Sent mine to Samsung a couple of days ago for repair.
Any news on yours?
So I finally received my phone back from the repair shop and after glancing over the repair report, I came to the conclusion that I had lost the first fight with warranty claims: they did a firmware upgrade !! They upgraded my "old" firmware to a mind-blowing future one: JM2 !!!
After two days, the phone decided to act up again showing the same symptoms as before. In order not to loose the second fight, I decided to go there myself instead of sending it through mail. Being a 45 minutes car hike, I decided first to make sure that the phone was indeed showing the problems initially reported. After some minutes playing with it in front of the desk clerk, he finally admitted that it had to be a hardware problem.
So now the waiting game begins...In the meanwhile, I'm using a Nokia E71 which, while competent enough for my basic needs, it is NOT a Galaxy S. Crap !
To finally close this chapter I received my phone 2 days ago and after a Lcd screen replacement it seems now that the problem is finally solved.

glad to hear everything checked out correctly, I presume everything fell under your warranty?, i got the same outlines around the circle but they are very very faint as I can only see them when i hold the device in direct sunlight at a certain angle so I suppose you're not the only one.
When you say LCD screen are you merely making a mistake or did they actually replace your AMOLED screen with an LCD?
If they actually did that, it doesn't seem like a very good deal...

samsung build quality , same old same old

Well i have to say i really liked this phone its ui is butter smooth and the screen is super nice, however after recieving my second replacement this morning i cant help but feel this phone is plauged with build quality issues. Both phones had yellow tint same degree purple spot is real bad on replacement phone and it seems to have some crazy banding I also found a small transparant circle in the middle of the screen like burn or something.
Going to try a third and prey I get a working one , but im already thinking i should swap to sensation as i dont want to be swapping phones looking for that perfect one, shame becouse for me this phone dumps on sensation however the build quality at samsung really lets things down.
first build was korea finished china 08.11
second build was korea finished china 06.11

My story
Hi there,
I bought the SGSII about 4 months ago. It didn't have the yellow tint, but i noticed (after reading a thread here) that the left side of the screen was darker than the right side. So, since i was on the DOA warranty, i decided to get my replacement.
After opening the 2nd device in front of the store's service team, we noticed the same issue. I thought "well ok, i 'll replace that one too." That's when my trouble started. Service team calls the store's manager, he arrives 30 mins later, and we head to his office. He calls samsung's service here in Greece asking if they heard any similar issues from other costumers, then he passes the phone to me. I was told that this issue isn't supposed to exist, and that he (as samsung) had to replace the phone for me a 2nd time.
I walk towards the phone department of the store, and to my surprise the employee there, told me that he didn't want to open his whole stock just for one client, if this issue keeps appearing. So in good faith, i decided to send it to samsung via the store, so they can replace it for me. I was told that this would take 7-8 days.
So, 1 month and 12 days later, after constant calling at samsung to check what happened, the device returned. Their reply till one hour before i receive it was "the phone is still under inspection". Probably an automated response, since there is no possibility that the phone traveled 504 km in 1 hour, and no it didn't arrive by plane. It took 12 days out of 42 just to reach samsung.
The phone arrived in a plastic bag, like the ones you keep food in the fridge. The case was still at the store. As a result, screen had a scratch on it. The best part was their inspection result. "We didn't notice any issues with the screen, but we did a full wipe on your device, just in case".
At this point i started entering rage mode. Not only i had in my hands written diagnosis from the store technicians that can see the issue, also i had a brand new scratch on my screen. The store's manager went defensive, and stated that if samsung's official response was that there is no issue, then there isn't one. No comment on that. (Note: i refused to sign the document that mentioned i received the device back from service)
At this point the store technicians kicked in. If it wasn't for those guys, i 'd still have a faulty device on my hands. After a whole day of making calls to samsung, the techs tried to explain to them that you don't have to be a technician to see a faulty screen. Yet all the replies they got where in the lines of "There is no issue, all SGS II are like that, its the screen's technology, and they shouldn't replace any of the phones" Exactly the opposite of what i was told.
So i decided to take one last action, to see if i could get my money back. I wrote a long email to the store's costumer support, explaining the above. As a result, i didn't get my money back, but i managed to replace the phone with anything else i wanted in that price. So with my 599 euro store credit, i got myself a Nvidia gtx580 and 8gigs of ram for my PC. Happy days.

So with my 599 euro store credit, i got myself a Nvidia gtx580 and 8gigs of ram for my PC. Happy days.

Feel your pain there fella and wouldent wish that bad experiance for anyone, the fact you got a gtx580 and 8 gigs of ram kinda puts the price of the phone in perspective and why we shouldent be content with these faults.
well third phone arrived today still got yellow tint , also has transparent lines that run down screen and if you use screen side on there is also some weird banding taking place , this has purple spot as well.
Totally gutted with samsung 3 phones now all with same kind of faults marks on screen yellow tint and purple spot. I said i wouldent but will trying one more exchange tomorrow then giving up on this phone.
Shame samsungs build quality is so bad :/
i had a very similar spot (to your 2nd sgs2). it was even bigger (1-2cm) and it had a very low mic volume.
so i returned it.
my 2nd sgs2 has still a bit low mic volume but its acceptable and the screen is just fine.
at first i thought i can see a battery through the screen but then it seemed more to be a dried up drop or something to me.
Since we are talking about build quality can i ask your opinion on the home button. Mine feels as if its craking when being depressed.
Is this normal?

Well, I think I'm very lucky, because I've bought my phone on eBay (no warranty) in the first month that it was launched (probably one of the first batches), and I have no issues at all. I'm extremely pleased with my device in all its aspects. Nevertheless, if I had experienced such issues (specially the customer service in Greece) I would be very disappointed also.
Likewise first batch no problems .
jje
No problem with mine. Although maybe on a very white image or screen the very left of my screen might be very very very slightly tiny bit darker. Could be me seeing things. Only started looking after reading threads like this though.
Doesn't bother me if it is because I can't really notice it.
My s2 was warped (crooked) right out of the box, low headset volume (even maxed via secret code) low mic volume and poor wifi.
I sent it in through bell for warranty and am still waiting to get it back. If my issues are not fixed I am selling it and never buying Samsung again. My sample should have never left the factory in that condition. At this price point, it's unacceptable.
Only problem with mine is a dead pixel and some overheating when playing heavy games. Its so amazing otherwise though

Got mine under the authorized dealer last month.
I have an issue with the speaker (Near my ear). When I max up the volume I hear a little cracking noise like what you hear when there is a small hole in the speaker.
It is not easy to notice but it bothered me.
And to no surprise, I take it to the service center , the did I firmware upgrade and told me there its nothing wrong with the speaker.
I took the phone and waiting till it worsens so it can be notable by the semi deaf technician.
love the phone and there is no alternative :-(

alarming amount of a complains for this phone.
i havent heard of any other phone having even 1\10th of the problems seen on this single hand set.
its is easily one of the most defective phones of 2011
not a recommended buy
Wow so many issues. I never imagined. Well my device was perfect from the start. Without a doubt the best phone I have ever had. It drives circles around my retired iPhone 4. Which to be honest I'm on my 4th iPhone 4. The first had a defective battery. The second the screen died on me. The third had a faulty home button after about 3 months. So now I am on number 4. Every time I got a new device, not refurbed.

Giving up now on owning this phone, shame samsungs build quality is so bad becouse i really do like this device and how it performs in other aspects such as browsing games and system ui.

Is it safe to buy a nexus 7 yet ?

I had one with screen raise ... otherwise great. I don't want the hassle of endless refund cycles.
So, for new (or recent) orders from the Play store which I am assuming is the fastest clearing channel... do they still have the screen lift problem.
i.e. has the hardware been rev'd yet ? Anyone with a recent delivery know....
I just got my replacement today. I don't want to speak too soon but it's been out of the box for about 2 hrs and hey it looks fine right now. I'm gonna charge it and use it a little and see if anything pops up so to say and I'll update later tonight.
Edit: I wish there was a way to tell the hardware revision if there is one at all. I might crack these both open before I send my other one back and see if I can spot any differences.
I don't consider the screen lift an issue so I would have to say you have been good since day one. Other than that I haven't heard anything on "New batches" being released.

Not sure how its NOT and issue. Considering if the screen lifts to much the tablet wont work correctly. That being said I have got my replacement and I have a feeling its going to do the same thing. If you look down the sides of the tablet you will notice where the glass doesnt connect to the case. Thats where the screen is going to lift and the way this one looks its going to be just a matter of time before the screen lifts.

I have had the screen lift since day one and have no issues since. Don't understand how a slim screen lift is going to bork the device.
Got my second unit Wednesday. It has screen lift as well.
I would definitely advise against buying retail, but I think Google can be trusted. I'm just going to hold onto this defective one for a month or two. Then I'll ask for a replacement.
No regrets, although I was pretty miffed about opening a new one with the same flaw when it happened.

Did I say it would bork the device....no. If you want to use it with the screen lift good for you.

Guys... we are getting off topic. The question is not whether the screen lift is an issue to some (and not others).. but when will the hardware be rev'd so that the screen is flat.
a) Never (not considered an issue).
b) Soon - but still not yet shipping.
c) New ones are now coming in with flush screens.
Not gonna make this a poll.
Just want to know if those who have taken recent delivery have got flush screens....

i got a cherry 87 buick I would like to sell you
Maybe your right, my touchscreen stopped working after use and the screen lift. I guess I should have kept it
I bought mine retail from Office Depot on 7/17 and haven't had a single problem with it.
In the UK I'm waiting until they physically have them in the stores. Right now it tends to be buy online and pick up in store a couple of days later. I got one last Friday from Tesco Direct and it had the screen-lift (this IS a fault) so took it straight back. I'd rather be taking back and getting a replacement straight away rather than waiting 2-3 days...or 10 days and counting with the crappy service offered by Google

Careful with buying in store. It may not be considered a fault (for the reasons expressed elsewhere in this thread) and if you do not have UK DSR law then you may not be able (allowed) to make a return. I wouldn't fancy my chances in CPW or Currys of doing a return if the device is functioning (but just not quite flush).
Most UK retailers allow you to return for simply not liking the product. In Tesco the guy told me it didn't matter if it was faulty as it was within their X days return. They'll be selling them in store in a couple of weeks apparently.
tribestos, fail to see how OCD relates to finding a fault on a piece of hardware. It's not like people are obsessively looking for faults. The screen isn't supposed to lift but it does. That's a design flaw.
So somebody must be taking the hit for all the returns... is it the retailer or do they just return the units back to the manufacturer and not pay for the duff ones ?

The replacement 7s poll has gotten sunnier, although people are voting prematurely. Also, it's not public, but I don't think many would tamper with it.
Although I have not seen a unit without this defect, there are at least a few posters there who should know exactly what to look for and haven't found any separation in their replacement whatsoever. That's a good sign, and that poll was pretty ugly last Wednesday, so the vast majority of respondents since then have been ticking perfect.
As for when this flaw will be officially dealt with, probably never. But don't hold that against Google. They can make right by rooting out the manufacturing flaw and dealing with unsatisfied customers on an individual basis. No need for any headlines.
Got my first Nexus 7 on the 17th. I was somewhat unhappy with how washed out the colors were. Also when I play a video the screen gets even more washed out for a short period of time. Generally just looks unsatisfactory. Also I have a row of pixels that sometimes flickers.
On the 24th I got my replacement Nexus 7. It was also washed out looking, had the same video playback issue. And the glass was raise on the left side if I held it there the screen would distort slightly.
I called Google today to get a feel on if I should try a second replacement or get a refund. The lady at Google said that Google has the new batch in now and says it has fixed the issues the first batch had with raised glass, pixel issues, and color quality.
So I'm doing a second RMA now. She's even letting me RMA the second device while I still have my first device (was worried I'd need to send that back before starting the second RMA).

You have that choice. But when I spend my money on something I expect it to be built w/o flaws. Hope the glass dont fall out on you when the screws get to lose! Oh you wont care tho it will still be irrelevant right?

Yeah, I hope she wasn't blowing smoke up my butt. That happens too. But I figure with the 16GB Nexus 7 suddenly returning to the Play store and the CS telling me this, it's hopefully correct.

Pink Lines on Screen

Wondering if anyone else has run into this issue. The other day I noticed that in apps with a white background color, I would have horizontal pink lines on the screen, sometimes vertical, too. It drove me crazy enough that I went to the Samsung service center close to where I live, and the guy flat out just told me that the screen needed to be replaced. I didn't leave the phone with them because I kind of need it, but I will have to eventually.
Weird thing is that there are no dead pixels - all the pixels are fine and went through the pixel test with no issues.
Anyone else experiencing this? Pretty frustrating since I got the phone less than 2 months ago.

Hey I think I might be having a similar problem, it started to happen yesterday and about a third of my phone is now constantly turning pink. If your problem is like the one below then let me know and I'll keep you informed in what Samsung say when I contact them later today
Just realised I can't post links yet but the images are here imgur(dot)com/a/YBA5o
Same thing started happening to me a few hours ago.
Definitely a hardware fault.
Mine was purple smudges and washed out, sent out they replaced the phone, its a hardware/factory defect.
Yeah definitely a hardware problem. I took a screenshot of the pink and sent it to my computer so I could view it there, and the screenshot was absolutely fine and pink free on my computer, so yeah, hardware problem like the people at Samsung said.
Just sucks that I can't get a replacement unit because I am over the 30 day period. That is just bull**** if you ask me. The phone is still brand new and doesn't even have a hairline scratch on it.
Sorry to necro this thread but the same thing happened to me again, after the screen was replaced the first time. Now it's gone in for a second time. I think this is a pretty well known issue with certain S7 Edge productions. Really even scared of the Note 7 now because I believe it's happening because of the edge panel.
2nd phone with the same issue, 1st time they replaced the phone for brand new, now the same problem... it happens only on s7 edge duo?
Past 31st I bought the S7edge black pearl version. When the Samsung sales executive unboxed and switch on those pink lines were displaying. I was shocked to see those. Immediately they asked me to wait and replaced a new one. I waited for an hour there and browsed my phone completely so that there will no major disappointment.
Just shared this incident on seeing this thread.
