Taken with X10
Taken with iPhone 4
Notice that the one taken by iPhone has a less color range than one taken by X10. But i agree with the camera laggy start up time
But compared to iPhone 4, X10 camera have a lot of advantages, you can set the exposure compensation, face detection, smile detection, average metering, spot metering, image stabilizer, multiple autofocus. While iPhone 4 camera is just a point and shoot only.
I say X10 beats iPhone 4 in term of functional camera and video camera except for the flash . You can try taking video with iPhone 4 and taking video with X10, see which one is shaky.
so my opinion, nothing to be embarrassed about.
Constant phone reboots and 40% chance of drop call from x10.
On my Storm 1? Zip.
And storm one was HORRIBLE.
But I think I went from Worst to THE WORST.
Sad.
Tried to show off when i hadn't had my phone very long. Wasn't used to the damn speed of the touch screen.

right. iphone 4 can capture pictures WAY better than that...
we'll be getting 720p HD videos in 2.1 too.. @24 fps (or even less). iPhone can do that at 30fps.
Sadly X10's camera isn't anything special, but that's fair enough for a phone. If the X10 had no camera and the same specs with Froyo I'd buy it anyway
Anyway, my embarassing moment was when me and my friend who's got an iPhone4 played the same game (fruit ninja) on our two phones, and we could definitely assure that gaming on the iPhone is... another world. X10 is SOOOO slow and the iphone way too fast

I agree with you, most of high end Nokia phone is using Carl Zeiss lens and the Sony Ericsson Cybershot series beats X10 as well. But the quality is decent compared to iPhone 4, i was replying for the OP comparison of X10 and iPhone 4.
Personally, i don't get annoyed too much lack of this and lack of that with X10. I have Cybershot TX1 for casual snapshot which way better than most of pocket camera, also have DSLR for serious and art photography. PSP and Nintendo DS for playing portable games.
So i never expect too much from X10 that make me get embarrassed or disappointed, but that just me personally other people have their of own preferences.
I have never been embarassed about something my phone did/can't do... that's really silly.
I wonder if the SO-01B is really different than the X10a/i... I mean, the firmware versions are totally different now. I've never dropped a call, in-call volume is great, the camera starts up within 3-4 seconds, and Fruit Ninja works perfectly fine. (I actually used Fruit Ninja last night in an argument with my girlfriend to show how she was slicing at my heart. She laughed and we made up. Thanks, Xperia!)

Why does it take so many clicks...?
Instead of using the phonebook, you can make a folder on the home screen.
1. Click folder
2. Click contact
3. Click number
Isn't that how many clicks it takes for most touchscreen phones?

I also always wondering why people have a lot of restart, drop call and in-call volume problem with X10.
Ok, drop call i had, that one i make call in 30th floor office and the 3G is just 1 bar (too high, maybe signal can't reach , i changed to GPRS, then no problem).
In call volume is very different with each person, but i found a lot of occasion i pass my phone to my friend, because the caller want to talk, my friend never make any complain or ask to speak louder.
But random restart i never had, already tried with SO-01B ROM, SingTel ROM, Generic ROM, never had one.
Yesterday Ive dumped X10 and bought GalaxyS, boy what a difference, screen, wider and with much better colors and contrast, louder speaker for ringtone and for telephony, NO LAG after VooDoo lag fix. Only thins that X10 has better is the look of the white unit and maybe camera.
Can you tell me what you mean by "wider" and how it's a "good" thing? I personally feel that the X10 is already bordering on "too big", but any wider, and I probably would've never bought the phone.

Amongst the many reasons I love my X10 are the display and the 8MP camera, the latter of which, to my surprise, needs improvement (to say the least). I'm of course referring to the Xperia X10 versus iPhone 4 comparison photos, as can be found via Google.
It's not the software I'm concerned with, as I can always get around it one way or another; it's the hardware, and what it's capable of. Just this past weekend, I was at a family dinner, and was quite dissapointed with not just the time it took to take a shot, but more importantly the lack of detail & overall quality. Meanwhile, my sister boasted her iPhone 4 and received all the compliments, whereas people lost patience with me standing there going, "wait for it... wait for it! Where are you going? Damnit!"
Let's face it, the i4 clearly takes better pictures, and the bluish purplish discoloration is rarely ever an issue with indoor shots. Even I was quite impressed with the shots my sister had taken with her i4, while mine were just not noteworthy.
I'm well aware that megapixels mean little to nothing with respect to the quality, but I expected much better from Sony. So, my question is, is there anything I can do to "improve" or "enhance" the X10's camera capability? Or is this really the X10's full potential?
get vignette from the market.....
Will vastly improve your shots
the time it takes to take a photo is still an issue though.
and motion blurring while trying to take a phpto is a right pain in the rear! took my several goes to try and get a self shot of me and my GF the other day cause it moves as i try and press the camera button..

use touch to capture, disable image stabilization, use vignette, install the v10 camera mod. the only problems i have are in low lighting, which no cell camera will work well in.

also the big diff is iphone 4 has 65 million colors so pictures seems to be better, but if u transfer a pic from iphone4 to your experia and do the reverse the pic from your phone will look better in iphone4 than than the iphone4 pic in X10....
regarding slowness of camera, yeah that is an issue, but it is improved in arc,arc can take like 1 picture in less than a second. hope after GB upgrade we might transfer that to X10
Let's have a look on the camera apk which is in the latest ROM of Trip..
I can take 2 photos in something like 3 seconds or less..
Ive compared my x10 to the iphone 4 in terms of picture quality...and i clearly see the x10 is better. Iphone 4 was really oversaturated. If you know what your doing with a camera, you can take good pictures.
First thing with the stock x10 camera is turn off image stabalization as that makes the quality bad. To much compression and blur.
Second, i just recently discovered how much better the x10 stock cam is when you use the EV balance effectively. Im a big fan of vignette, but lately my stock x10 cam is taking much nicer shots when i properly use EV balance. I was amazed at the difference.
Metering modes also plays a roll in better pictures....i use center weighted for the majority, but sometimes spot metering is very useful depending on what im taking a picture of and how the light is shinning on my subject.
Also, a steady hand is important.
You dont need the camera mod app as you might end up frustrated with sound/video delay in your video recording. Trust me, EV balance is your best friend with the stock cam.

Wow, I'm overwhelmed by those shots 28spawn; especially the ones taken by "mode", it's hard to believe he's using an X10!
I'm currently running Wolf's latest 6.1.3 v06, and I don't see any EV balance controls in the camera app, nor did I find any in Vignette. Am I doing something wrong or missing something, because I'd hate to have to revert back to stock just for this.

I had to revert to 2.1 from 2.2 ROMs just because a lack of EV correction in 2.2 camera apks and NO dev gave me answer if we will have it in the future... Its cruel as I loved 2.2 (CM 6.1.3) so much. Everybody is posting good quality photos but nobody says how much photos wasnt so good and in many situations you dont have time for playing with settings and trying to take good photo...

I've been doing a lot of testing lately with the cameras of the Neo & Arc, and so far everything is perfect! The more I test them the more I get convinced that this is for real, and not a market gimmick.

So, what do you think
Good enough or could be better ?
Id say i can take much better low light pictures than that with my X10. Especially the last pic with the mini where its completely out of focus and blurry.
The Arc would still win, no doubt, but those arent as good as the X10 can perform in low light.

Actually I really tried to be as objective as possible. And to be honest, it's really hard to maintain focus in night time on the X10, whereas you would notice a huge difference when it comes to the Arc.

Even though the X10's camera is really good compared to many other phones out there, I'd have say that it's really slow from initiating the app to focusing on the subject and to saving the image after the picture is taken!

My thoughts exactly! The interesting thing though is that the X10 already has a top notch camera. So, seeing some of the differences with the Arc now, truly shows that S/E still owns this game, at least in the camera department.

If i came across as rude that wasnt my intention. I have taken good low light shots with my X10...infinity focus works 10 times better with the camera on the X10 for anything that isnt macro. Night mode works great with steady hands as well. EV control is what makes the camera shine best.
BUT! I seen alot of images from the Arc and the X10 doesnt stand a chance....which only shows how good the Arc is because the X10 is still one of the best camera phones out there.
The colors the Arc produces are absolutely phenominal! Im so jealous.

We are here to discuss our opinions, so feel free to say what ever you believe in.
The thing is that The new S/E cameras are stunning! Like you asserted earlier the X10 already has a top notch camera, so seeing the improvements on the Arc & Neo just makes me send my warmest Kudos to Sony really.
Have a good one
High ISO - what you call low-light - is there but it introduces even more noise.
Arc's biggest problem is its horrible JPEG compression: it really looks like someone forgot to take a look at its pics in 1:1...
...once again, great engineers, incompetent management, as always with SE.
What does management have to do with jpeg compression?
1.Since you have mentioned neo. I am eager to know the camera performance of arc vs neo. Coz gsmarena has mentioned that arc takes better picture than neo.
Im thinking of shifting to SE neo or arc. Depend upon camera performance.
2. one more thing, no site mentioned about the capture rate. Ex. Engadget said x10 has more detail than arc despite having less mp. But we all know x10 takes lot many msec than arc so pic comes blurr.

Couldn't agree more - great pics in daylight, piss poor in low light. Tried tweaking the camera settings but to no avail. Am wondering if anything i froze with titanium could have degraded the camera quality at all..?
If you want to take pictures, for instance, of a drunk friend of yours dancing like crazy in a club with poor lightning, just to show them to some other friends later, the Arc/Arc S surely wins, since it easily captures decent detail even in the darkest spots. But don't expect comments like "Wow, your smartphone takes really good pictures at night"... They're way too noisy and 'cheap' for that.
On the other hand, if you want to take pro-like pictures of low-light landscapes such as a city at night or a beautiful sunset, then the X10 is far, far ahead of the Arc.
Let's put it like this:
Arc in Normal scene = Great brightness with heavy noise, no need to keep your hands still.
Arc in Night scene = Lower brightness that in Normal scene with less noise, but you need to keeps your hands as still as possible, so the pic doesn't turn out to be a blur.
X10 in Normal scene = Poor brightness with low levels of noise, no need to keep your hand too still.
X10 in Night scene = Great brightness, even better than the Arc in Night scene, with almost unnoticeable noise, but urgent need to keep your hands completely still.
Not as much brightness as the Arc on Normal scene though.
So, regarding the Brightness/Noise ratio, the X10 has a better camera than Arc.
Still, you might want to notice that the purpose of a camera in a phone is to be able to quickly capture moments of your life, and not take pro-like pics... For that, consider buying a professional camera or so.
my arc s in a very low light condition
it's not that bad IMO.

Megapixels are not important at all, iPhone 4S has Sony camera and yet SE can not come close to iPhone camera in mobile phones, I really dont get it, they at Samsung should buy 10 iPhones and then try everything to make somethin better in camera department and also in housing quality, sometimes I think that people in Samsung have never seen iPhone in person or felt how it feels in hands with that perfect quality.
Not so fast.. They used one daylight and one night shot. The difference between the 4S and the GS2 was pretty small, with the GS2 winning some of the measures. It depends on priorities. For me the GS2 just takes it actually.
Video on the GS2 can be modified to have higher bit rates than the 4S, and it does improve the video.
I would too like to see better camera improvement on future generation phones. Yes, phones aren't dedicated cameras and won't give the same quality as one, but using your phone as a camera is just so convenient, especially carrying around a thin phone compared to a bulky camera. Would like to see a camera that snaps quick like the Galaxy Nexus with a better lens/sensor.
Absolute BULL****!
Hands down iphone4s offers best video recording?
If you prefer un-natural colours, poor low light footage and an 'extremely choppy video- when moving sideways....

Maybe you havent seen an Xperia arc camera. Ive had one and it beats the iphone hands down. Not only have I seen this online but me and friends with iphones have compared them and even they concede that the arc is superior.
Granted the 4S is better than the 4 but then its a newer phone, expect newer sony phones to beat it again all over.
I have S2 and 4s, but I have to say 4s is better (for me) when taking a pic..
such as capture speed, exposure, and color..
similar but better, how should I say that
but when it comes to video recording S2 rocks
I'll post both photos from S2 and 4s later..

Comparing your arc to your friend's iPhone 4S does not constitute a proper test. Post picture comparisons here and let us judge for ourselves, because unless you do so, your argument is void and you come off as a simple fanboy. I mean you are arguing that the tests done by review sites are completely full of ****, yet fail to provide any evidence to prove your point other than your word. So in your opinion, in whom do you think we have more faith: you, or the tech sites that have years of experience and none of the obvious bias?
Looking at comparison shots across multiple review sites that have the know-how on how to take a proper photograph, I have yet to see a single shot taken with the Xperia Arc that would immediately crown its camera the king of those found in mobile phones. Its camera is good, but far from the best. The N8 is the clear winner there.
Judge for yourself(arc s left and iPhone 4s right):

Have to give that one to the 4S. The Arc looks unfocused (way less texture detail in the walls).
iPhone 4 has perfect 720p video but it is shaky as hell ! GS 2 has also great video but I think that it could be sharper and also I dont see stabilization option in video department ? I also use only 720p because I dont need 1080p.
Higher bitrate on Galaxy does not have better video, sound is great now with that tweak but I think that there is no test on the internet that says that Galaxy SII has better camera than iPhone 4S, I dont like that but I must accept it, and Galaxy is out for a long time now.

iPhone 4 has perfect 720p video but it is shaky as hell ! GS 2 has also great video but I think that it could be sharper and also I dont see stabilization option in video department ? I also use only 720p because I dont need 1080p.

The PC World test I linked to did put the SGS2 ahead of the iPhone 4S, but the pictures clearly speak for themselves; the camera in the iPhone 4S is much better.
I can't figure why anyone even bothers doing pointless amateur comparisons, I only can guess that flaming and clicks...
When it comes to photo, there's usually more than meets the eye that should be taken in consideration when considering a shoot-out:
1. Details about the camera: the sensor itself ( circuitry and pixel pattern/array),pixel density on the sensor, optics ( CZ vs plastic)
2. Details about the camera usage specs- firmware dependent: init time, focusing interval, focus points, capture response time, ISO values-what values are useable, dynamic range, shutter speeds.
MAYBE most important
3. OS-dependent details: jpeg/compression algorithm, color rendering algorithm, noise reduction algorithm, ...
Give me a RAW file from any sensor and I can make the photo better looking than anything.
Given that fact they are making a review about cameras, though cell phones cameras, they should have the decency to ask someone that has written a review about cameras.
It's like writing about wines and declaring one to be the best solely by the time and volume it took to get the girl into the bed.
This is interesting. I would like to have a phone with the perfect camera. Such a thing doesn't exist. So I have chosen the phone that is best all around.
If all I wanted was a great camera and didn't care about any other features I would take what my wife has, a Nokia N8.

I have both the phone. The quality and video recording is indeed better on the iPhone 4S from what I can see in my eyes.
But c'mon guys? When did the S2 come out? You really gonna think 'Apple' won't be spying or checking up on competitors to release something 'atleast' better during iPhone 4S production?
These reviews are easilly manipulated.
PC world gave a much better non biased review and it puts the SGS2 above the Iphone 4s in the camera department.
One thing is sure is that the SGS2 gives better night shots then the Iphone 4S.....The Iphone 4S gives a brighter picture but loose a lot of details.
I've hated phones that use noise reduction/edge sharping to scrub out the detail and replace it with digital artifacts. Whats wrong with grain.
So from that stand point I love what Apple is doing with their unit. Detail isn't something you can get back once its lost.
Hey Guys!
What do you think about this HTC One vs Lumia 920 Imaging Comparison? I have used both HTC One & Lumia 920 but i must say i was a little disappointed to see the HTC One low-light performance. It doesn't perform how it was promised too. What was most disappointing was that it didn't even have "Light Assisted Focus" which made it difficult to take focused photographs in low light. What do you guys think about it? Did i miss anything? Did i overlook the "Light Assisted Focus" or am i right? Looking forward to your informative replies.
the Lumia 920 use settings similar to night mode on the One, so try night mode and more importantly try HDR which is the SGS4 night mode method but at much faster shutter
Regrading focus the "touch to capture" mode will solve it, when you touch your target, the camera will reach focus and take a shot
using HDR plus auto flash light, will "flash assist" the HDR capture and the results are incredible (similar to the method used in Lumia 925)
HDR (no flash, good shutter speed)

I bought HTC One as a replacement to my Lumia 920 (and I still have it).
I have not made any proper comparison yet, however my immediate feeling is, that HTC One is a big downgrade in terms o camera performance, when it comes to IOS, picture quality and recorded sound quality. The only thing that HTC is superior in is (in my opinion) image sharpness/details, which are still lacking on the WIndows Phones.
Having said that, I treat Lumia as my idiotic experiment and I will probably never abandon Android again.
If I find a bit time I will do a picture comparison with both phones, side by side.

Can you make zoes with a Lumia too?
to be honest I don't think the comparison is fair. The image quality of the htc one is simply awful. Nearly every other phone i had made better pictures (ok the nexus 4 was a bad one ^^). that said, i have to admit it IS very decent in low light and color reproduction. but while other phones produce clean and detail rich photos in normal daylight, my one struggles to keep up with.
the camera is really the only thing I absolutly dislike about this phone (and as a sony fan that is a huge compliment toward htc).
what bugs me the most is that 4MP in reality isn't that awful at all, still htc decides to treat the picture with way to much smoothing, eliminating effectively that few details it captured. Despite I honor my camera in my phones a lot, I have to admit I would still miss the One if I'd sell it. After all, it's still 1 little detail.

I give HTC props for trying to buck the trend and do something "new" but it does have it's weaknesses.
Instead of trying to be different by using a 4MP and try to debunk the megapixel craze, they should have made a 8MP Ultrapixel camera and just market it as the new generation of cameras, and then appease all crowds.

I'm sure I don't.
I have absolutely zero understanding of camera sensors, etc.
I'm generally a proponent of people feeling way too entitled to having some kind of super digital camera in their phone.
But if an OEM is going to try, go big or try again.

Funnily enough, HTC did go big with "Ultrapixel".
It's not bad in daytime, it's just not great. Only good/meh. It blows away even the L920 in night time though.
Overall I'd like to see HTC take on the L1020 with a huge sensor. 1/1.5 with 14.5MP would destroy the L1020 for low light, although it would have less sharpness (need at least 20MP to eliminate bayer artifacting through oversampling).

No its not when i fix tear the Htc one it was ST Microelectronics
Se some posters suggesting an 8mp ultra pixel camera in future htc units. But is that even possible without destroying the slim design? If you want to build a sensor with the larger ultra pixels and pack twice number of pixels, the sensor must become much larger. And then you probably must move the lense further away from the sensor to cover it with light (the image). Hence you need to build a thicker device.
Maybe this is why Nokias are on the hefty side.
But hey, this is just a humble theory based on my limited knowledge of sensors and optics.

I purchased a moto-x yesterday out of contract to give it a "road test" and If I liked it I would return it and order 32gb as my Iphone 5 replacement. I had to make a trip to NYC today. My train ride into Penn station is typically 1 hr 10 minutes and today I waited another 10 at the platform. I started out at 100% and started streaming Spotify over LTE and sat on reddit and google chrome for most of the way along with a few games of solitaire and burnt it down to 65%. I fared about the same with my Iphone 5 while making the same run pre-IOS7 however expect worse performance after the update. I was in battery park for the most of the day and lost another ~10% in the subway roaming/intermittent streaming. By the time I got on the train 7 hours later I was at 35%, I used the navigation for about 10 minutes to get some food (awesome btw).
Things I like about the phone.
The screen size is nicer than the Iphone 5 however may not be "as bright" I assume this has to do with the OLED screen.
The Active notifications has to be my favorite feature. It really is quite nice and I dread going back to my Iphone 5 without it.
The active feature while driving is nice however I haven't given it the full test yet.
Google Hangouts is amazing, it really is and I am going to force my girlfriend to use it on her iphone.
Android feels like a smart phone that wants to "help you". I'm sure that doesn't make sense. It just has some mystical google type power IMO.
Things I don't like.
I was hoping battery life would be a little better based on reviews, however I find it good enough.
The camera however this is an AT&T phone without the latest update. The camera will make or break this phone for me as I have a room full of fishing pictures, most are really good and taken with smartphone camera's (Iphone's.)
Also I tried to scan a barcode and it was just NOT happening while on the train, something the iphone did no problem (using myfitnesspal)
It also doesn't charge as fast as my iphone, however that may be because of the larger battery?
Also, when I return this phone this weekend, is there A way I can have everything backed up, so when I get my new phone I won't have to set everything up again and download all these apps over?
Here is the pic comparison, done side by side. http://imgur.com/a/tywmw
I'm actually having trouble making my picture look as bad off as you did and I am not able to reproduce it.
The color in my photos is spectacular, way better than my HTC One. I just took this of my salt water fish tank and it's way more than close... It's impeccably accurate.

Doing photo comparisons at this point is a waste of time. Att is going to have the update out very soon so why bother. The camera is great after the fix.
Compare then.
To answer your question you have the option to back up ur apps through your Google account. They redownload as soon as you log in on the next phone

... mmm i have say the tmobile firmware is excellent ... no brand no bloat ( retail en us on the about ) ...
Would you say the battery life is pretty similar for both phones? also how much thicker is the moto x?

Don't think i'm dissing the phone, I like it more than the iphone5
I'm just waiting for the update.
People tend to like the over saturated photos that the iPhone and Samsung produces... The Moto X creates pictures closer to real life colors.
Its the same with DSLR's, Canon processes photos with colors close to real life but the Nikon gives it more saturation - newcomers tend to go Nikon for this reason.
I prefer the real life colors, and I'll add saturation if needed later on.
Edited.

Agree 100 percent, iPhone photos always bleed colors and it's especially seen in very detailed things.
In terms of Nikon and canon, I shoot with a Canon and only would buy an older Nokia if I was to but one myself.

Again I think you mean NIKON. I never experienced excessive saturation on any of Nikon DSLRs. I never used retard mode or full retard mode on them though. If you are using those modes on your Canon, well, congratulations.

NIKON, as you say.. Makes great cameras I don't see what your point here is besides starting a war that's been waged since the dawn of personal photography.
On another note, my main camera is a pentax k-5, that doesn't mean it shoots way better photos. But it's weather resistant and takes the best night pictures of any camera I've ever owned.

Just pointing out that any camera that has manual control can be adjusted to take life like colors. IMO comparing auto modes on manual cameras is stupid.
My boss shoots a k-5, its an attractive camera. I like that the image stabilization is in the camera not the lens.

Yeah, it's a fantastic camera... The biggest turn on for me was the Iso noise is tremendously low even at very high Iso ranges.
