First: thanks to all the members of XDA who contributed to bringing Android to the HD2. You saved a few HD2 from ending up in the trash. lol
I have been trying different android build on my HD2 for a few months now and I have notied than on builds like mdeejay Froyo Z, Android FRG33 mccm V1.5 and a few others I get the H data icon 90% of the time. When I use builds like mdeejay evo sense v1.6, HtcClays SuperDesire V1.0 and some others I only get 3G but never H. I know the difference between H and 3G, my question is why do some builds get it and others not. I would think that it would have more to do with the area coverage than the build but the results are in the same locations like my home and job. So is it something in the builds?
Thanks

I can't connect to HSPA+ in winmo only 3G/HSDPA, BUT with MattC's newest sence ROM with PPP I have been blessed with the access to HSPA+ in Jacksonville, Fl. Check out my signature. What I want to do with this thread is list the compatible ROM's, their stability, and the area you are in.
By the way, my test was 7mb and it completed in less then one second. No B.S!
My specs:
Windows mobile: ©[ANDROID O.K][4 Aug 10][23569][21911]~[CHT]~[Premium]~[Kumar's TMOUS HD2 ROM Series]
Android: [BUILD][25.08.2010][mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense 1.6b][Kernel: michyprima 2.6.32.9 #70]
Radio 2.10.50.26

~ very unstable with all the tweeks. winmo and Android, but the speed of the data connection is worth rebooting ALL the time.
Four months later...
Hello Ppl,
I havent manage to find a thread regarding this. M sorry if there exists one.
I ve been using mdeejay's, darkstones and mattc's builds and all of them where based on Desire.
Last week i ve decided to go with Revolution EVO (since he fixed 011 prob and numbers appear in the right format and it doesnt have any ads etc) from mdeejay and i ve got to say that it is by far faster, and more responsive than anything else i have tried.
I ve changed the kernel from hastarins 7.6 to latest (26/10/2010) git kernel with ported battery.
The screen rotate is almost done within a second
Lock unlock is much faster than desire's
Speed "feels" twice as fast as desire's
I ve used N1 builds in the past once or twice, but i miss the sense experience and i dont remember it being faster than desires.
Anyhow. I need your feedback.
What is your experience with it?
I've done pretty much the same as you, and I've got to say that the Evo version by mdeejay is simply amazing. It's the best version that I've used, stable and without issues.
one vote + for mdeejay's Evo - rEVOlution
for now, best rom, and best batt life near 2 days with 2g allways on and not very very intensive use..
-on op, i'm not a sense user but i liked the sharp wallpaper on mdeejays evo revo build + the smoothness of animations minus the drain in battery.
-desire, i didn't liked it.
-n1, i like cyanogenmod build for its customization.

Your choose is right . EVO Sense is the best as far as I know .
So what are the differences from a more technical reason?
What are the pro's and con's. Support, Hardware compat etc?
Sense versions. Is the desire sense newer?
If only it supported rmnet.
Not being able to use the data connection I'm paying $30/mo for... worthless.

I'm not off contract.
excellent seems that everyone shares the same feelings about mdeejay's evo build.
hope that we will be able to flash it on nand.
I really dont use winmo the last two months. I flashed a blank winmo image, and didnt set anything, not even giving my pin to it anymore.
I m really looking forward for a flashed edition.
But i notice that all the evo build didn't support chinese handwriting in serach contact list
Maybe just in my case
+1 on Evo revo really nice.

+1 on Evo builds being the best (tmous here.)
I have seen it asked, I have NOT seen it answered and maybe it should be, we are not all Android literate .... whats the difference between the builds. what makes Froyo differant then Evo, what makes Desire so special ? should be a sticky if people do answer... how do you have an Android QA and not have that front and center
ok im not going to get into too much detail on this because the information is readily available all over these forums....
froyo = the version of android (2.2) the one before was eclair (I think) the next one will be gingerbread..... google decided it would be a good idea to name them after food for some reason....
my guess is that the company is secretly run by a 4 year old.....
desire / evo = different models of android phones that the android builds are taken from......
Froyo means Android v2.2. This can be EVO or Desire. Desire and EVO builds are made of the HTC RUUs of the devices "EVO" or "Desire".
Please correct me if I'm wrong xD...
was too slow
nah my fault..... was too quick
Sorry I'm also new to all this. So apart from the apparent sources of the builds, how are they different in terms of functionality and compatibility to our HD2?
I have tried both the desire build and the evo build, and didn't notice much different.
However, I have heard people (including Darkstone) saying that the desire builds work better overall due to hardware similarities. As far as I know, MDJ has also stopped updating his only evo build, and is currently actively working on 3 desire builds. I'm running his evo build right now and loving it.
I'm just wondering what are the specific underlying differences between an evo and a desire build? Why would some users and clefs prefer the desire build over an evo build?
Thanks!

ahh haaa see this guy gets my question =P I know that the builds are based on Official android releases ... duh, but whats the REAL difference in what they are capable of. I to have installed many different builds here and have favorite chefs and builds I use daily, but I am still not sure what the real difference is other then minor cosmetics in most cases ....
What is the difference between the eVo and Desire builds? I am trying to decide between MDJ FroYo Sense Clean v. 2.3 vs Mdeejay eVo Sense v2.3 rEVOlution. I isntalled both of them, they look about the same.
Is there a specific benefit of using one of the the other?
One of the key features I am not seeing in both builds is being able to Copy & Paste in Message app. And also, the feature of having numbers formated to (xxx) xxx-xxxx instead of xxxxxxxxxxx
One thing I've got to add to your topic is that i find that the eVo Sense build is faster and smother than the FroYo build (especially using MDJ's S2 kernal).
The one thing you should note though is that the eVo build is actually no longer supported (no more updates will provided for this build). Hope that helps you.

So the eVo build is no longer supported only for the build released by m-deejay right? Other developers are still updating it?
Other than performance (faster and smoother) are there any other difference?
I am pretty new to here, still trying to learn Andriod on HD2, just wondering what is the major difference between DesireHD and Evo ROM on HD2? what are the pros and cons?
Thanks!
i would recommend EVO builds. I don't know why but all Desire HD build i have tried, they were so laggy.
I also prefer evo. Also next time, open a thread like this in Q&A section.
Thanks, I will post the question to Q&A next time....
the desire hd builds are better because they have the new htc sense which i find to be a lot cooler than the evo sense. android 2.3 will probably have the new sense anyways though, so it wont matter soon anyways
I personally find myself reverting back to my Evo builds on a regular basis... I have several different sd cards including 2 class 6 cards and i always seem to experience lag and screen locks on hd desire builds... I experience no problems with evo roms. I just enjoy trying new roms no matter how they run. I will probably go back to an hd desire build again once i can load it from NAND .
try EVO build first... it is much stable than HD builds... then when you get boring flash and try HD builds... it has cool new features... that is what i did...
now im happy with hd build (coreHD) less laggy than other builds..

evo but next time post in HD2 Android General Discussion forums this side for devs
can give example which is EVO rom?
*too many weird name there
thanks....
My hd2 not accept any other rom version than the one that are available to me. I've done HSPL, Radio is 2.10 ..... 50_2, and everything else should be fine, yet my phone is still growing HTC logo, for example, if you start Desire HD's firmware in the card.
Neither (personal preference)

Did you allow it to create a data image or add one to the Android folder? Sometimes you have to give it anywhere from 2 minutes to 20. Anything over 20 reformat the sd card and try again.
Let me pile on, the DesireHD ROMs just aren't there yet. The new HTC Sense items in DesireHD are really nice, but not worth the long lag times.
I've tested a lot of ROMs. The one in my sig has been by far the best combination for me. It's almost as zippy as the EVO (my daughter and wife have EVOs). What impresses me most about the ROM I'm using is it doesn't get bogged down with multitasking as much as other ROMs.
Most ROMs are fairly quick on first load. Then they quickly bog down when you load up accounts and apps. FRG83.MCCM IR V1.7.1(Incredible) with hastarin r8.5.1 kernel stays responsive.
Offcourse HD builds, much more smooth browser and goodies in magnificent text selector.
For me the browser experience is the most think to decide my choice......I wasn't using HD builds at moment because the camera faults, but now I am.
