Evo ROM or DesireHD ROM? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I am pretty new to here, still trying to learn Andriod on HD2, just wondering what is the major difference between DesireHD and Evo ROM on HD2? what are the pros and cons?
Thanks!

i would recommend EVO builds. I don't know why but all Desire HD build i have tried, they were so laggy.

I also prefer evo. Also next time, open a thread like this in Q&A section.

Thanks, I will post the question to Q&A next time....

the desire hd builds are better because they have the new htc sense which i find to be a lot cooler than the evo sense. android 2.3 will probably have the new sense anyways though, so it wont matter soon anyways

I personally find myself reverting back to my Evo builds on a regular basis... I have several different sd cards including 2 class 6 cards and i always seem to experience lag and screen locks on hd desire builds... I experience no problems with evo roms. I just enjoy trying new roms no matter how they run. I will probably go back to an hd desire build again once i can load it from NAND .

try EVO build first... it is much stable than HD builds... then when you get boring flash and try HD builds... it has cool new features... that is what i did...
now im happy with hd build (coreHD) less laggy than other builds..

evo but next time post in HD2 Android General Discussion forums this side for devs

can give example which is EVO rom?
*too many weird name there
thanks....

My hd2 not accept any other rom version than the one that are available to me. I've done HSPL, Radio is 2.10 ..... 50_2, and everything else should be fine, yet my phone is still growing HTC logo, for example, if you start Desire HD's firmware in the card.

Neither (personal preference)

Did you allow it to create a data image or add one to the Android folder? Sometimes you have to give it anywhere from 2 minutes to 20. Anything over 20 reformat the sd card and try again.

Let me pile on, the DesireHD ROMs just aren't there yet. The new HTC Sense items in DesireHD are really nice, but not worth the long lag times.
I've tested a lot of ROMs. The one in my sig has been by far the best combination for me. It's almost as zippy as the EVO (my daughter and wife have EVOs). What impresses me most about the ROM I'm using is it doesn't get bogged down with multitasking as much as other ROMs.
Most ROMs are fairly quick on first load. Then they quickly bog down when you load up accounts and apps. FRG83.MCCM IR V1.7.1(Incredible) with hastarin r8.5.1 kernel stays responsive.

Offcourse HD builds, much more smooth browser and goodies in magnificent text selector.
For me the browser experience is the most think to decide my choice......I wasn't using HD builds at moment because the camera faults, but now I am.

[Q] Android Build Question

Greets All,
I currently have an HD2 unlocked and being used on AT&T. Love the phone, and since adding Android, Loving Android very much so. Kudos to everyone that made this happen.
Now before anyone jumps the gun and starts with the typical answers.
I am currently using the Moto234_Evo_Carbon_Remix Rom. One of the reason why I chose this was because I was setting up a Sprint EVO for a client, and it look very similar to the HD2 and the specs for the most part, and I liked the feel. By picking the rom I said I like it, but I was wondering if there is a better Android to work with the HD2 to try (Not ROM), Other then the EVO based one which I assume based on the name the one I am using is based on.
I know there are different types, like nexus, and droid, but I am just wondering if the evo base is a good selection, or if there is one that might fit better the HD2.
*Bump*
Anyone? Again, I am not asking whos rom is better, I am merely asking which Android OS would be the best fit for the HD2? If this is an opinion question, please base it off the OS and not the ROM someone made.

Everyone get's different results with different builds, unfortunately. Anything I suggest to you could run like absolute **** on your phone but be smooth as silk on mine. It's a case of try them and see. The worst you'll do is lose a few hours swapping and configuring builds. Just back up all your data (data.img) first and you'll be fine.
best evo build is mdeejays 2.3 revolution
then upgrade to mdeejays 4.4 desire hd build , update with kernel mdjs8
but first, why not update your winmo rom to 3.14?

Your right about that, thats why I was asking what would be the best fit, true that anything you suggest may run like crap, but since there are different droid builds from different type of phones, I was just trying to narrow down which would be the best fit for the HD2.
I just got the HTC Aria, and going to at least root it for now, and then see if I want to keep whats in there or upgraded/change it to another version.

I guess since I just got the phone and coming from the comfort of the Tilt 2 I dont want to brick it lol, but I took the plunge and updated it to 3.14. And thanks, will look into your suggestion.

[Q] Thinking about taking the Android Plunge!

OK, after much patience and living with all the Windoze BS, I am considering re-flashing my HD2 to Android.
I currently run the Artemis ROM (Windows) and like it because all the bloatware crap that is usually in the ROMs has been removed and replaced with a miimal array of useful system features. That's what I look for in a ROM.
I know this question is frowned upon but I still need to ask... Considering my desire for a clean and fast minimalistic ROM, what are the best choices available in the Android world?
Thanks

look at hyperdroid or darkstone's new ram build, heard it was fast.
i used to be a fan of those fast builds but i tried mdj froyo hd build and im not looking back. sure its a little slower at times but i am a fan after the camera fix.
I think you will like hyperdroid butits kind of old ... anyhow I do recommend that you check any froyo builds since those seem to run much smoother and fluid then any sense I trie so far... waiting the 4gb card to start testing other builds but hyper paired with energy 2.5 gtx winmo rom ad 2.15.50.14 radio gives me great battery life (3-6mA) in standby of course.
Btw u cannot flash android on hd2 but put it on and run it from sd card... cheers and good luck

I am running the Nexus One HD2 build on my phone and it works amazing...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793924
At the bottom of the first post, the developer posted a spreadsheet of the combos that are working...
I have two HD2's and using different combos... Two recommendations
1) get an SD card that is Class 4 or 6... Stay away from Class 2 as they have been linked with issues
2) if you get it to work.. Dont mess it with it anymore. leave it alone, I have messed up so many times doing this.. if it's not broken, dont fix it.
Welcome to the hd2 android world! I bet you won't regret it.
Considering your choices (i was a long artemis user before), you have indeed the nexus one option, not sense builds. I prefer to use a third option, the miui roms. good new is that changing build is easy like changing a folder. Have fun!
It doesn't get anymore minimalist than darkstone's new SuperRam. He shrunk that system file down to 55mb to load it in a ramdisk. It's extremely fast and completely plain froyo. I'd give that one a go first if I were you. Nice thing about not having nand, you don't have to flash anything, you don't have to mess with your winmo one bit if you don't want to.
The other one you might try if you want a bit more bells and whistles is the HD2One Cyanogen 6.1 rom, it's more current than Hyperdroid. I think hyperdroid hasn't been updated for quite a while.

Best Android NAND for hd2

hello everyone...i just wanted to get ur opinion on this...which android nand for the hd2 is the best ...basically fast, and everything is pretty much working....ive heard that MDJ Revolution HD and JDMS are good..but which one is the best of them both or of all?

Dude... seriously... which beer is the best? what's the best colour? What's the best food?
etc. etc. etc.
It is ALL a matter of taste. You need to read people's feedback in each thread, decide which seems best to you, then try a few. The happiest people on this forum, are the ones that put the work in at the beginning, and find a ROM they like.
If you know what you're after, then maybe with a little tweaking of the question, you'll get some help.
Sense or not?
Which base do you prefer? EVO, Nexus, Desire HD.....
Do you want a stock ROM (hardly changed from original base), or one that's themed.
There's so many variables, this question is obsolete..... Do yourself a favour and do some research, you won't regret it.
I had been using Cotulla's LEO stock desire ROM since 30 Dec...quite fast and found no bugs at all...
Since there are so many more NAND builds recently, I would like to seek for some recommendations for new ROM...
My only requirement is sense build with stock theme
Thanks!

Projection's build is close to Stock desire that you are using, it has bug fixes and changes, is stable, and works well.
Again, backup your stuff with titanium, then go flash around.... you'll find something you like.
Nearly ALL builds have screenshots, so you can see what it'll look like before you try it.
well thanks guys...well i thought i was specific enough...my only requirements are speedy, fast rom...all features working.....nothing else matters ...just those 2 features i mention...and um ur also right about doing ur reasearch...thats y i even gave 2 examples MDJ Revolution HD and JDMS. do u guys know of any rom thats like the fastest on the hd2 with all the features working?.....i want to run psx4droid...hope fully it will run good on the rom u guys recommend.
In terms of speed, a bare android (non sense) will likely be the fastest (IMO more stable as well). The desire HD builds are the most feature-laden but also tend to be slower, and the desire and desire z fall in between the two. In terms of speed, the ranking is vanilla is fastest, then desire, desire z, then desire HD (again, IMO), and vice versa in terms of features.
At this point, I believe it is a pretty moot point to talk about "everything working," because each of these different types all have several threads with everything except wireless tether( most don't have it) and 720p recording (none have this feature).
I recommend browsing each thread and finding something that is visually appealing and trying it. If it gives you problems move on to the next one.
Just make sure to read and search before posting questions or bugs.

Good Bye, HD2

Sorry to create a new thread, this is my last one in HD2 Section.
I am happy with my hd2 from the last 11months and in last 6 months I am habituated to test builds and even tried to make builds on my own but ofcourse failed. Usually, I won't stick with a mobile for more than 3 months.
But this Mobile has different OS and it was a powerful one. Now I am fed up with testing Android builds and their stability, battery etc. So I want to use a native Android phone and so I am going to purchase DesireHD with a stock Android rom and I need to concentrate on my studies other than concentrating on XDA and my mobile.
Thanks for all the Developers in HD2 section, especially Cotulla for Android and WP7 on our HD2, Mdeejay but we're missing him a lot , hope he will be back soon and finally Imilka who is currently replacing the work of Mdeejay.
Bye!

And do you know why they are slower compared to the HD2? Cuz the stock rom hasn't been tweaked to their fullest... While for the HD2, we have our custom roms roms tweaked to the fullest for maximum user satisfaction.
Now when a true android device is flashed with a custom rom, it is also, or atleast should be, tweaked to the fullest. And when that device is on its custom rom, it flies well beyond where our HD2's stopped and fell.
Now i'm not saying our HD2's aren't great for android, heck it is. But people, don't get ahead of yourself and start thinking it's as good or even better than a true 1ghz android device, heck the desire z, at it's 800mhz is better.
My mytouch 4g has more ram, therefore less lag. But I still bought an hd2. Simply for a 4.3" android device on tmous

+1... completely agree there. A lot of people here didn't seem to understand that when they were always posting how the HD2 is faster than native devices... they were comparing a rooted, tweaked device to an unrooted, stock device, and thought it was a fair comparison. And many acted like other phones didn't have their own forums with custom roms and tweaks, and ports of other android phones.
If I just used Android, I would definitely love to get a native phone... but since I've been dualbooting WP7 and Android, I am going to have a very hard time deciding what new phone to get. Right now, Android is definitely capable of more, but seeing what's in store for WP7, and seeing how quickly the homebrew community is taking apart WP7 and learning to tweak and hack it, I know WP7 will catch up quick. I wouldn't be able to decide between to 2... I actually kinda prefer using WP7 as my day to day OS, but there are still too many limitations to completely stick with wp7. I can't play my psx or snes games on wp7, there's no good navigation, and many other things that are missing still. I also love being able to customize my android homescreens. So at this point I like them both about equally, and use them both about the same amount... so I'm gonna be sticking with my HD2 for a while longer... probably at least until the end of the year and I can see where each OS is at and see what hardware is available then. I'm really hoping that they start porting android to WP7 devices, so hopefully I can get a next generation device at some point that can run both OS's again... but it will probablt be a long time, if ever, that we see a device that gets modded and hacked like the HD2 did. The HD2 was a very unique device... there was never a phone that got modded as much and probably never will be again, unfortunately.
Kind of feel the same way I love testing out different Roms for the HD2 and love the screen size but I want to play around with a Native Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S 4G) to see whats its all about plus it would be nice to finally be able to charge a phone while its turned off. Im stilling going to keep my HD2 though I still feel like its one of the top phones out.

dont be in any hurry. you really are not missing much. those samsung android phones do have an amazing screen though. just saying that if you are going to upgrade, make sure whatever you are getting is a worthy upgrade. flashing these custom roms and trying to find the "perfect" and "flawless" android build for our hd2's can be annoying at times but its doable..
but i guarantee, like most of us you want the most out of your device and you will end up rooting and flash custom roms on your new android smartphone just like you do now. and like many, you will also run into problems and those custom roms will always not be the most stable... just like some of these android roms for the hd2...
if you are on tmobile i would try to wait it out. see what the pyramid is all about and what other android smartphone will come out for tmo. the build quality alone makes the hd2 on a different level than most smartphones out there.

Yeah man i wanna do that also someday, not now No Budget!
However, we can charge our phone when they are OFF with Magldr 1.11!
Last week my battery died so i freaked out hearing/reading that it wont charge etc... I plugged it for about 4 or 5 hrs and then i switched it on and SURPRISE!! It booted and had 60% battery!
Only minor issue is that you will have to unplug-replug the battery!
i think it is about 6-7 monthes before the hd2 forum is empty like all old phones , but it was the best phone i've ever had , and won't upgrade untill a similar htc phone is released , The only thing i'll be sad about is you xda developrs and hd2 community , we will be distributed among different phons and forums

How stable is android on the hd2?

Hello, my wife has a sidekick 4g that she absolutely hates and has gotten an offer to trade for an hd2. My question is, the person says it is running 2.3.5. How stable is android on the hd2? If I tell her to trade and it sucks, I will be in the doghouse! Also, if I can convince her to give windows phone 7 a shot, how does that run? I can do the searching later to find out how to boot between the two, but is it pretty risky/hard? I've rooted and rom'd every android phone I've owned but something about winmo. Makes me nervous. Thanks!

I agree. Just make sure the touch screen works they are infamouse for them breaking. The phone is easy to root and nearly every rom on xda runs perfect on this phone
I've had my HD2 for 2 years now, and I knew nothing about rooting etc. It took me a whole day to learn, but now I can easily switch ROMs within half an hour max.
I've tried multiple Android ROMs (SD and NAND) and a WM7 ROM before the mango update, and everything works incredibly smooth and fully-functional. It's actually even better than the original Windows Mobile OS, so I'd highly recommend giving it a fiddle! Trust me, you can't really go wrong if you follow all the right advice (stickies have all the good stuff!)
Once you get going I think you'll really love the variety of builds and find one that you're comfortable with. Enjoy!
Awesome! Thanks guys, sounds like its a go then! I may even be wanting one for myself!

You dont "root" the HD2.
I'm using CM7_Tweaked-2.0.0-LEO and radio 2.15.50.14. I would not describe it as very stable and I cannot get the radio to do 3g or H. Perhaps my expectationa are too high and I'm sure it is more stable on Android than Windows, but I am not happy with it.
I have the same problem. would like to update my Leo by Android but I do not know what is the best ROM to do that in terms of stability, display errors and energy management? I was using 2.3.5 NAND version which had quit a lot of bugs. Now I'm back on WM
Android on the hd2 in my opinion runs better on this device than some devices that are launched with it.
Load up NexusHD 2.3.7 and you or your wife won't look back.

Well you are not going to find out unless you try them. Also "2.3.5. NAND" means absolutely nothing as that isnt rom specific, that is just a version number of Android OS.
In my experience the most stable version without needing tweaks/extra setup etc is the NexusHD2 roms by tytung (Froyo) and (Gingerbread) and they are as close to stock Android as you will get.
I am addicted to trying new roms though and have started to really like the MIUI based roms but am currently testing the new NexusHD2 ICS base.
HD2 forever ...
I have an EU and a from about 2 month a TMOUS:
- EU with MIUI 2.37a stable ... hard daily use, it rocks!!!
- TMOUS to try other roms with sense (big internal space required, i hate app2sd ) and tried 3 different version of ICS for now without any problem!!!
I have thought about changing them for a real android but ... i love modding ... so no chance for other model for now
A quick reply? Buy a TMOUS
Cheers
Roms
Since you have tried many different roms, have you found a sense 3.5 that can play 720p video? Mwakious 3.5 does not
HD2 was build for Android, delivering it with WM6.5 was a joke!
