Lag Fix + New Update - Vibrant General

So far, I've read from numerous folks who have bricked phones because they applied the update without undoing their lag fix (voodoo or OCLF). What I haven't heard is anyone confirming that they successfully were able to update after removing their lag fixes. (I've read through many posts, and i think lots of people have this same question)
Can someone please confirm that they were able to successfully update without bricking their phones after using one of the lag fix uninstallers, and if so which lag fix. I think this little piece of information would be very useful to many on the forum, and if it's been answered it'd be useful to have the answer easily available so that people don't have to dig through hundreds of posts.

I was wondering the same thing. My gf phone has oclf and rooted. I'm running a dev rom, so I cant test it on my phone.
I posted in a thread earlier asking if removing oclf and updating will brick it but nobody respond.

I'm just going to remove the lag fix for now
In the one thread a user said he received notification, but lost it after removing the lag fix

OK, I've also removed the lag fix and am waiting for the update but I'm afraid to be the guinea pig... it would suck to hvae to fix my phone.. I'm too busy!
Edit - I haven't gotten notification of update yet, will check back when I do.

The missed call issue.

I'm having major missed call issues and was wondering how many people are having the same issue?
Also has anyone contacted Verizon about this issue? If so, what did they do about it?

From lurking around i've seen that a lot of people are having this problem, regardless of rom/kernel/baseband etc... I myself have this missed call 'bug' and as of right now I don't believe there's anything we can do to fix it yet. As for telling VZ, yes they know about it and many people have complained, although they wont do much besides offer you a replacement Fascinate or a "comparable" phone (read: Droid X). If you're lucky you can smooth talk or berate them into giving you MAYBE a Droid X2 or Incredible 2.

I have posted this in another forum thread about missing calls on the Fascinate, and I wanted to update this one as well with the updated information. This software release will address multiple issue including text messaging issues. Here's what I posted in some other threads:
I have been keeping track of this issue, and I have some news for those having the issue.
This has been escalated to the manufacturer. They rigorously tested and researched this specific issue. Samsung has developed a confirmed fix for the phones not ringing as of 06/30/11. We are working with them to finalize the fix and deliver it to the phones. I really wish I had an ETA to give everyone, but we don't have one yet. I just wanted to keep everyone in the loop.
Historically, these fixes have been pushed or updated via a software update. Here's a link to the Samsung Fascinate software update page in case we push this fix in a similar fashion. This page will update when we get very close to delivering the update if done via OTA software update.
Thanks again for everyone's feedback and patience.
Edited Note: I have also removed the resolution for this post. Perhaps once the software updates are launched, tested, and confirmed by multiple users as resolving the issue, then we can mark this as solved. Our goal is to fix issues, not just see the a green check mark on the page to make everyone feel better. I apologize about that, and I agree it was completely marked in error.

Dev Issues, rom prefrences?

Hey guys and gals,
Just wanted to know if you have Dev rom issues with them working for a while then all of a sudden it either FC on you with super user or installing apps. I have to this point, had a lot of problems with the roms at times. Even when i change the write permissions I've had issues through CWM. I support all the Devs here to making and updating ROMS for the best phone that Tmo has at this point.
Another question is what is the LONGEST rom you have used and had it work for longer than 3+ months? Not only a stable release but a great kernal for batt life and efficient app/program running you have come across? This thread is in no way to put Devs against each other but more to learn on the strengths/weaknesses the MT4G (Glacier) has and how to deal with such issues.
Personally, I feel that all the devs can make a "same export file" for the contacts list instead of gumming up your sd card full of contact info with multiple vcf files of the sort.
One more issue i have is the Super user not being able to update in accordance with the other files on the rom/Device itself, and yet running smoothly without it FC on the rom i'm currently running, which at this time is "Beat Sense".
Do any of you have the same issues as I do or is it just me? Please let me know what you think of this thread and post your finds and issues, both positive and negative. Thanks.

I've been modding since the G1 and one thing I've learned is to leave well enough alone. The ROM I'm using has been smooth for me for months, so much so that I don't bother to update it when new versions come out. A lot of times new versions post speed improvements or new features but if its not an entirely new ROM or something huge, I stick with what I've got. I dont mean to imply that the dev's put out bad builds but stuff happens. Could be my fault, could be a bad flash. There have been lots of times where ROMs work perfectly for me but others are having all sorts of problems.
What I'm saying is, find something that works for you and stick with it as long as you can.
Thread moved to Q&A.......

Just want to say..thanks!

I wanted to detail how much different the subsections are in xda, and how much you guys rock in this one.
Rant!-
I got jumped on in the mt4g section for posting a bug that was persisting through SEVERAL factory resets and rom flashes..for some reason i kept getting errors for processes for Samsung (on a htc..) And sign in failure for verizon (on a t mobile phone ). Even after wiping and re flashing different roms these problems persisted..so i detailed my attempt to find out why i got the bug, asked other users if they had experienced it (none had) and eventually traced the problem to the test rom i had installed. I brought this to the dev's attention by linking to my q&a thread on his dev thread only to be scolded that the issues were known, it was a test rom that i had no business flashing anyways, i should have read the thread as the issues were mentioned and known (which is why other users had never heard or experienced the issue??) And then the dev, on my account, pulled the link to the rom which angered other users whom then joined in chorus to say it was my own fault for not reading the bugs, when i said it wasn't in the bug list, was told "he doesn't have time to make a bug list for every test rom" (so where i was supposed to read that this bug existed i was never able to find, even after requesting to be linked to it).
The real icing on the cake was the fact that i spent 7 hours troubleshooting the bug, only a nandroid backup fixed it and thank god i had done a backup before installing it, and had searched extensively on Google in general and within xda forum for anyone having similar issue and no result, but was looked at as if i had wandered in, said "oh this looks cool"and flashed it and then proceeded to spam the dev thread with my problems.
Needless to say, I'll be selling this phone and not returning to that section as i am clearly not wanted there..rant over.
I want to say thanks to the devs in this section for being patient and helpful in the face of extreme ignorance, and to the users for understanding that not everyone on this site with less than 500 posts is a noob expecting to be spoon fed. I fear some of these communities are becoming to exclusive rather than inclusive. Transformer owners and developers as i have seen are very friendly and patient and I've gotten to like you all..
Even you goodintentions..
Thanks for showing that xda can be an inclusive community!
OK, flame on...
WRONG SECTION - USELESS POST! MODS PLEASE DELETE!!11!!ONE!1211
Ok, joking aside, I'm guessing maybe because tablet owners tend to be older then you're average high schooler we have a maturer crowd here?
I go by, if I can't help, then move on. No need to "flame" someone and get in an online battle...
And are you really going to get rid of your mt4g because of rude/inconsiderate people on the internet?
To join in on the rant.... READ READ READ READ READ..... so when are you supposed to post?
You would think that low post numbers mean more reading and less "got any updates?" or "Ya i agree". I personally only registered because i had a question that i couldn't find the answer to. Having been around forums for a while now (and i mean a long time) i have seen your situation at least once a year and sometimes it can be because the bug just totally pisses them off coz they cant fix it.
Totally agree.... the devs and gurus here are amazing. This truly is the place to be if you wanna hack and slash the device you have.
So thanks to all of you that make our devices so much more than we bought so that we can do whatever the hell we want with them.
Thanks again
I agree with OP. XDA has become a huge flame war where I feel that most people just post in threads to get their post count up. You have very few in here that will flame you for posting in the wrong section or repeating something that has already been posted(8 pages back).
Nature of the beast I guess. Next to head-fi.org this is one of the kindest sections I know.
It isn't my primary phone, and was intending to do that anyway, but the fact that the community is so immature and now hates me, there is no incentive to keep it
Oh well..on to the next device
EDIT: (One more thing I found funny, but no point in starting another thread)
While researching NVFlash and ubuntu/debian on the TF101 I came across this quote;
.. WARNING:: some/all TF101G (the 3G model) are expected to have a
different SBK. Until you know the SBK that corresponds to your
device, you *can not install Debian*.
To acquire an SBK, perform rubber-hose or black-bag cryptanalysis
on the associated ASUS staff. Once successful, please publish the
SBK widely, as (AFAIK) ASUS cannot revoke it from units that have
already rolled out.

LMFAO, I just read Applied Cryptography by Bruce Schneier..if any of you are unfamiliar with 'rubber hose' and 'black bag' cryptanalysis, google it
I agree so far from what I have seen in this fora. I have only had my tablet for about a week. But in deciding which tablet to buy, I read many, many different device forums to get a feel for just as many things. ROMs, Kernels, un/locked bootloaders, support and even accessories. I did the same thing when I bought a new phone. That is where I remember Baseballfanz from. The NS forums.
The thing with the post count is kind of strange. I have seen several people with below 50 posts, phrase an articulate question with nearly all the neccessary info. Whereas I have seen others with 500, 800, 1k posts with like you said, small blobs about nothing. Those just waste my time and I want to delete them, but I can't.
Similar to your situation, only my experience was the knight in shining armor. There was this person in the Vibrant forums who would just pounce on noobs about searching. I had just come from a Motorola forum that was by far one of the most helpful places I had ever been. That is actually where I learned about, well everything basically. Anyways, back to the Vibrant. I had gotten tired of seeing this person post the same replies all the time and flaming noobs. I thrashed him really hard about it and brought to his attention why they were asking these things (ever been in panic mode with your $500-$700 phone?) and sometimes the search button brings up more info that you need. You can easily lose track of why you were searching in the first place. He actually posted a thread apologizing and stating that he would be more helpful in the future (it has since been deleted).
Best advice I can give to someone is read, read and read but also give all the information that you can when asking the question. YOU may not think it is relevant, but I might.

'media bug’ and ‘external SD-Card’ bug finally fixed !!!This is for all SGS ICS users

Okay(INFO ABOUT ME)
To be very clear i am not a developer but i surely have enough experience to stand by this post
For starters i have tested all roms that came out for SGS in the past year.
In terms of ICS all the nightlies too
(ACTUAL STUFF)
PROBLEM
This Thread is for those who are facing this error "Android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly" and also the similar media one
"The process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly."
A little overview to this is whenever this error pops up in any ICS rom be sure that
Just after this pops up you will see a zillion FC's and after you restart your phone which you have to cause none of the apps will open you will end up in a bootloop
and well data and factory reset will now be your only option !
SOLUTION
The only working setup known to fix this issue is well
___CM9+tweaks here and there(great compilation)___
___Semaphore 1.0S___
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608624
IS a great compilation !
(*I am not a promoter of any developer)
I worked hard to cook a rom for myself and later i found this which was exactly the fix !
GPS issue remains unsolved...(IF you are lucky then ZING !)
Sorry, but what the what and what now?!
"To be very clear i am not a developer but i surely have enough experience to stand by this post"... and your OTHER post, you have TWO so you must be very experienced Okay, I trust you.
HAHAHAHAAA. Are you f******* kidding us??? Gtfo. OF COURSE you get FC's after installing MIUI/CM/ICS onto a stock ROM and have to wipe. I assume that you're a total noob, because I was such one when I found out that you have to wipe . And FC's are NEVER kernel related and idc which ROM you like most, but all ROMs (beside yours ) are working fine.
Guys guys chill !
I been around since WM 6.0 i know what i am talking about
Trust me or not the above mentioned errors are fixed in the above rom successfully.
If you don't get these errors then great..GTFO this post.
If you ever face them then and only then you will know their occurrence pattern.
There is no reason to get rowdy now eH?
@dark_knight35
"because I was such one when I found out that you have to wipe ."
The noobiest person in my colony would know that.
and i never mentioned in my post the errors were kernel related.
I do have just one post on XDA so ? ?
I'm just an average kid in India studying so i have just been off for a while
Give me a break guys

His 'fix' is a recommendation to flash CM9 and Semaphore .
@OP Sorry, but staying calm by seeing such a stupid post isn't easy.
My 'Fix' is to tell you that after a lot of research i found a rom that fixed my errors
namely-
'media bug’ and ‘external SD-Card’
And all credit goes to them for their great job
@dark take out you frustration elsewhere.

Update all active ROMs to have Latest Security Patches.

Because of the new BlueBorne Vulnerabilities it'd be appreciated if all the Custom ROMs get updated to have the latest security patches. So I request all the good developers to include the new security updates faster and also check if the devices are no more vulnerable to BlueBorne.
Never been in a worse phone thread on all the XDA.
Still managed to get shocked by the obnoxious users.

Its a discussion thread. So just pointing out something which I noticed and requesting for it. If there is anything wrong with what I have said you can ignore it or tell why it is wrong instead of stating why this or other phone threads are worse than what you could know. Everyone starts as a Noob so don't just jump onto something.
I don't have any knowledge on these things but most of the custom roms here have not been updated to have the new security updates. So just wondering about it since there is this huge news on BlueBorne vulnerability.

It's not the issue if you are a noob or a experienced user. It sounded like you demand an update to every available rom here.
We are all aware of the vulnerability but it takes time.
There are hundreds of millions of devices that will never receive a patch and they'll continue to live their lives normally. S it's not a matter of life and death.
Relax and enjoy . You are on custom rom so the fix is coming quickly.
When will top devices on stock rom receive it? Who knows .
