Hey guys and gals,
Just wanted to know if you have Dev rom issues with them working for a while then all of a sudden it either FC on you with super user or installing apps. I have to this point, had a lot of problems with the roms at times. Even when i change the write permissions I've had issues through CWM. I support all the Devs here to making and updating ROMS for the best phone that Tmo has at this point.
Another question is what is the LONGEST rom you have used and had it work for longer than 3+ months? Not only a stable release but a great kernal for batt life and efficient app/program running you have come across? This thread is in no way to put Devs against each other but more to learn on the strengths/weaknesses the MT4G (Glacier) has and how to deal with such issues.
Personally, I feel that all the devs can make a "same export file" for the contacts list instead of gumming up your sd card full of contact info with multiple vcf files of the sort.
One more issue i have is the Super user not being able to update in accordance with the other files on the rom/Device itself, and yet running smoothly without it FC on the rom i'm currently running, which at this time is "Beat Sense".
Do any of you have the same issues as I do or is it just me? Please let me know what you think of this thread and post your finds and issues, both positive and negative. Thanks.

I've been modding since the G1 and one thing I've learned is to leave well enough alone. The ROM I'm using has been smooth for me for months, so much so that I don't bother to update it when new versions come out. A lot of times new versions post speed improvements or new features but if its not an entirely new ROM or something huge, I stick with what I've got. I dont mean to imply that the dev's put out bad builds but stuff happens. Could be my fault, could be a bad flash. There have been lots of times where ROMs work perfectly for me but others are having all sorts of problems.
What I'm saying is, find something that works for you and stick with it as long as you can.

Hi guys, I'm a little new to this ROM thing and I would like to change mine because it keeps freezing. How do I know which ROM is the best for me and how do I know whats different between them. Sorry for the ignorance but I've read a few of the posts adn feel confident that I can do it I would just like a little help/ insight before I actually just go throwing something on here. Thanks Nyne!

Well, first thing, I think this post belongs over in the General Forum. This is the place for Chef's to post their ROMs. But we'll let a Mod decide that and since I'm not a Mod...
The great thing about flashing ROMs is that there are so many to choose from. I can't tell you from week to week which one is my favorite, but then I do a weekly flash just to stay on top of the latest stuff
If your phone is freezing due to the well-known SMS bug, you can either find a ROM that replaced the HTC Messaging with something more stable.
If you are like me, you will probably pick your first ROM based on looks, and then from there you may end up flashing different ones that satisfy your current needs.
I've never heard of anyone breaking their phone by flashing too much, but you still want to be careful and only flash ROMs that have positive feedback in the comments. At least, at first.
After you get some experience, you may just decide to start going crazy and make your own
Best approach is to read the first few posts of the roms you are interested in, map them against any requirements you have and try a few. Read the various stickies and tutorials carefully first.
Closing this thread now.

Hey guys, hoping you guys can give some insight to a noob on this. I am looking to install a good rom on my phone. I'm leaning how to do this, but what I am looking for is speed and functionality. Themes are not that important, but would be cool. I do have the DK28 and is rooted, so I might need a good video to show me how to rom this phone properly. But as far as rom's go, I'm looking for one that is a really good rom.
Thanks in advance
Mike
Welcome to Rooting your phone. As far as the best ROM? There is no one best ROM, everyone has a different preference and outlook on speed. Any of the latest EXT4 ROMs will probably suit you though. Here is a link that will help you pretty much with everything you need:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SPH-D700
They have guides on how to ROOT, ROM, THEME and other things. It has the links to kernels, roms, themes all there. Hope that helps, and good luck.

Nebula
Mammon
Quantum
Viper
Im going to the new Nebula (twin Jets) now with EXT4
Have fun and good luck
What's EX-4? I'm not familar with that. Also is there a page to show these roms as I know new ones are coming out all the time. tHANKS AGAIN FOR THE POSTS.

Cool thanks. Are there any video's that show how these are installed? I saw some on youtube, but they were not that great of quality, and was unable to really get a good view of how to do it.
Thanks again
Videos
These videos don't show how they are installed but give a nice overview of some of the most popular current roms. I found them really useful.

Thanks viper. I'm looking though them now. Just trying to find a video on how to install a rom. I have picked one out and looking for instruction on how t install. I don't want to brick the phone since it's my company phone.
I did it. Viper rom installed. Was not too hard. Found a good video for it. Thanks for the help everyone.

The fun part is thanks to nandroid backups you can try out a ton of roms (I flash a new one every couple of days, now I'm back at dl18 playing the waiting game)
From what i've seen most roms share all of the major fixes and use similar tweaks and optimizations that they borrow from other devs... and the only notable difference i've seen between them is theme and how much they include in the rom extras wise (apps, live wallpapers, etc).
Viper rom has a lot of updates but I wasnt too much of a fan of the overall look of it
Mammons bonsai rom is lovely and I <3 it
Midnight Rom is excellent too and one of the best themes in my opinion, though if i remember correctly he does away with Twiz launcher and uses launcher pro(could be mistaken though i'm really tired and have used too many roms)
Epic Experience was the first rom that I flashed and works great, but I was mainly playing with the others lately since they have more frequent updates
Quantum Rom - daemon is brilliant and am looking forward to his next release
Supernova - I did try it out but I honestly don't remember what features it had
Nebula - Tried this out too, supposed to be more stable/straight forward rom for stable professional people who dont want inflated quadrant scores or flashy live wallpapers (I might be quoting a different rom, if so i apologize)
Syndicate Rom - Awesome as well but its not for dk28 xD
Overall all the roms are amazing the only differences REALLY notable to me is that some use AOSP lockscreen by default, some use TWiz lock/launcher, some use ADW... launcher pro... but all of that is changeable with a flashable zip/apk...I tend to prefer mammon and quantum rom nowadays since iirc mammon made the call log fix and gps fix and daemon is doing all this ext4/cwm work and they seem to be leading up the race with innovation and knowledge (not saying others arent knowledgeable... i know nothing of developing i'm just guessing here)
EDIT: forgot to mention, only reason im not on dk28 right now is that personally I have minor bugs with it such as the one where you call somebody and it doesnt ring or make any sound but it actually calls them, and some other minor issues. I figured i'd wait for official froyo to drop and continue testing out roms when I get bored
Oh and theres also cyanogen mod which is sexy and amazing but is prebeta and buggy (signal bars not working, MMS is broken, etc)
Although I agree that he could have been nicer about it, these posts absolutely do not belong in the development forum. Questions about "which rom is best for me?" Definitely belong in general. The reason some people (myself included) aren't often very nice about it is becase it is increasingly becoming a problem. The op really should take the time to read the stickies before cluttering up the dev forum. Everyone should.
Also, calling someone a jackass- even if they are being one- almost never shows them the error of their ways.

P.S If I do change rom's do I have to flash everytime and lose my apps and info? I save contacts on the SD card, but will stick with viper rom if I have to flash the phone for other roms. It get's kind of time consuming.

It is best to get titanium backup (from the market) that way u can back up your apps and you can use Backup to Gmail (also from the market) to backup contacts, call log, and messages. That makes flashing different roms a lot easier. (In my opinion)

Aside from titanium (which i never really used much, guess I should try it out as it can make backups every night while you sleep if you set it to)
You can also make a NANDroid backup via rom manager//clockwork mod which when you restore will restore everything down to cache to be the same. same texts in your inbox even xD.
EDIT: Also if you have your phone linked to a google account when you go through the setup wizard (on some roms) it auto downloads the apps you had installed before from the market as well as contacts, etc. But if you want an instant restore to the same settings/wifi/etc then I prefer nandroid (idk if titanium does all that I think it just backups apps)
also note that along with most roms you can customize them to your liking. you can change the boot animations (given they use a kernel that allows it... if the rom has a custom boot animation already it'd work by flashign one in CWM), theme, battery look, keyboard, launch options, lockscreen. You could always just get a not-flashy basic rom that incorporates the basic fixes that people want (faster gps lock/5mb mms/call log fix) and theme it all yourself in the themes and apps subforum. The gingerbread theme is nice and nova has a list of boot animations and battery mods in his supernova rom page :3. If you're interested in that I'd say go for epic experience as I'm partial to it and he includes an "extras" page with downloads to all that hes removed such as the live wallpapers, samsung widgets, etc.
Hi all.
First, biggest respect and thanks to everyone for spending their time and putting their input in this source of information. I know, that my question can make some people irritated and trigger some flame and negative response. I have read silly questions like “which rom is the best” and smth and understand this... I have gone through number of threads and hundreds of posts, searched but did not find answer in questions concerning me and maybe some other people. I’m using my phone not just for fun but for business as well, so I have no time to do it and keep it as testing platform... I’m sorry for this, and I think I could help developers with donation instead of testing various roms and posting of mine experience here. So, I’m just asking for useful advice, pisstakers and people having nothing good too say, thanks but maybe u could just not flood up this thread. Ok, let’s go...
Can you tell me your opinion about the NAND rom which would suit these needs best. I'm searching for ROM with the best productivity and stability. Saying productivity I mean flawless synchronization with MS outlook contacts and calendar (necessary) and preferably tasks as well at first... And stability and battery drain, also as many features as possible working as bluetooth, tethering, email, etc, etc..
As we know synchronization with MS outlook is weakest side of android yet, although some handset manufacturers making their software to resolve this issue. This is seems not most important thing for most people here, because after searching it looks there is something like white spot on the map about his.
I have my Dell Streak on android froyio 2.2 as my first android learning thing, before I was winmo user... I really like android as better and more perspective OS comparing with dying winmo, so I would like to make my HD2 android which is my business phone more... When I reflashed Dell Streak with froyio 2.2 I lost sync ability with outlook. With help of this forum I installed Deja Office which resolved sync problems.
And now, having read many posts I think I would like to go for gingerbread version, but there is nothing mentioned about synch with ms outlook even there is said that USB SD card mounting-unmounting is not working properly... Deja Office works this way by mounting-unmounting SD volume during synch, so it may not work with gingerbread...Should I go for another one rom? Which one? btw HTC HD 2 with 512 MB (non T-Mobile)
I don’t know, give me some info please and then I will help with donation to developer which rom I will find best for me. Sorry again for trying to get it ready from you instead of testing myself every rom here, but as I said, everybody can make it’s own different input in this board.
Thanks

In hopes to add something to this thread other than uselessness, if your looking for something simple and great on battery life then give tytungs gingerbread ROM a shot. Most Sense ROM's are not the best on battery but they aren't terrible on battery either. Anyways, good luck on finding the ROM for you.

Thank you very much motoman. This is the first at least more positive and constructive response... But mine biggest issue is the best synchronising with MS outlook. And I posted this jjust because after reading lots of posts and threads I find almost no information about this.

Jokes aside.
Try a sense rom, I find they have all your professional needs built in.
Tethering will not work on any android build, for all of them you have to download a separate app for it to work.
I don't see why a gingerbread build. What siginificant advantages does it have over Froyo?
Since you have a 512 HD2, get a squashed sense rom.
Also, dude please don't under rate our devs by implying they are simply people here to make a profit. They're not gold diggers, atleast in my opinion.

What's the best car in the world?
Whats the best movie in the world?
And best of all, .. whats the "best" color in the world?
Answer: NONE because its subjective, What is "best" for you is not necessarily "best" for me. Please stop asking silly questions. If this is your kind of topic go read one of the other eleventy million topics by people who have asked this question.
Btw, you havent "rooted" your HD2, You have simply installed a different rom. The roms already come with root access.
Like the other poster said, the best ROM will be based on what you want. I have seen people on this forum rave about their ROM but unfortunately wouldn't work on my phone. I have my Froyo and Gingerbread favorites that work really well on my phone but may or may not work for you. By the way, our HD2 phones do not support 4G but H that you see on your phone which is equivalent to 3.5G.
as mentioned above, what works for one user may not necessarily work for you. i was previously using mdj's froyo rom. i just recently started using americandroid and it works fantastic for me. so what's the best rom around? i reckon you should try out the roms and from there you can decide which one suits you best. cheers
I am sticking with official Miui for now

I think this is a VERY valid question! The Android development for HD2 is really fascinating and all developers work is very very productive! So a BIG thanks to all the developers here!!!
Unfortunately this productivity has so many threads that it is almost impossible to follow all and the streams inside are definitely confusing! Nobody can follow them all or foresee the impact of a installation of a single ROM compared to an other ROM! Installing many ROMs and trying them takes ages and when you're through, almost each version has new major or minor version developments and could start from the beginning again!
So if you ask me: We in the forum should take such request serious because they show orientation is hard here! And we really should share experiences with ROMs exactly here since this is a sticky.
My opinion on the best ROM: You first have to decide whether you
a) need operational business strength Sync: If so you should go for a Sense ROM. You Sync with HTC Sync and it is great. I like LeoRCMix Rom is here best.
If you like speed : use 1.6 - if you like 3D effect but accept it to be a little bit slower - use 1.9
But: So far all Sense-like ROMs have issues with graphical errors (glitches) - they show horizontal black lines ...
b) you need/like full android reaction speed: CyanogenMod or CoreDroid are great. But you have to sync outlook with MyPhoneExplorer which causes sometimes problems!
c) you want speed and Sense-like GUI (but need no HTC Sync): Then use a MIUI ROM - i have no experience here ...
Cheers!

Also WE DO share, There is a billion of these topics already we dont need to have a new one every day, just go read teh others instead of making your own and getting same answers, All it does is piss people off as it clogs up the forum.
The only reason why these topics get created is because the posters are too lazy to spend some time researching, trying or simply reading. Also if they really wanted to discuss a topic like this they could just go and read one of the other ones that discuss this EXACT subject instead of creating a clone and making browsing such a annoyance for those who actually go and read.

I think by now, we are tired of seeing the exact same thread pop up over and over again.. A simple google search of "best android rom" would result in a plethora of hits that would have solved your problem faster than making a new, but redundant thread.. One size does not fit all, and you will have to try out various roms before you find one that you like..
Thanks a lot

Welcome to forums. I'll give you a few brief tips on what I've learned over the last six months about android, hd2, and android.
With a typical nand install, the bootable system is installed on your internal nand, irrespective of your sd-card being present. Some may relate to the following comparison to a microsoft windows based system: your nand is like your internal hard drive "master" that contains your "C:" drive.
Your system folder on your nand has files specific to your device as required for it to boot and run properly. To access the market (google play) as well as have various hardware functionality, there is a file "build.prop" that is a small file with a text list of various descriptors. Being that the hd2 was not shipped with android, some of these descriptors name other devices as opposed to the actual device. In this case the "leo" or hd2 is using a ported version of android from a "bravo" or desire HD. So your system isn't malfunctioning describing another device name, rather, it could be looked at as "masquerading" as another device. I'm certain that is a severe dumbing-down of the technical details, but it's been helpful for some to look at it that way.
As for xda, I hope you spend an enormous time reading and not posting, as I have done all year. I have not posted at all and have literally read damn near every single post in the hd2 section and many more useful posts in other sections. After over six months and countless hours experimenting/flashing/customizing/etc on my own I am beginning to post now, attempting to contribute a bit in the forums that aren't still restricted for me because I feel comfortable enough to begin working towards contributing my input in the developer forums.
Most forums online have a similar attitude towards the plethora of posts like this, which bluntly request a quick answer for what is best determined through spending time reading and researching.
Hopefully you read the above and didn't skip to the end here where I wholeheartedly recommend the xylograph paranoid android ics rom. Cheers, and best of luck getting this amazing phone to fight well.
Amen to that. Nonetheless for starters go soft on your first rom get the CM7 of tyween. It's light and works well. But it's your choice. Indeed, look at me, just joined yesterday spent also almost six months reading the posts and relevant dev threads. Why am I posting, need it now to be able to complete my ten......
I can say for myself only. By my opinion, AOKP has best combination of settings and tweaks which really make life easier. Battery life and speed of this rom are very very good. But unfortunately this rom was not very stable for me, I experienced hot reboots regularly.
So I switched back to NexusHD2. It has comparable battery life and speed, but less tweaking possibilities. Stability of this rom has always been out of question for me. It is solid rock.
TyphooN CyanogenMod ROM was my first rom on HD2 and I have only positive impressions of it. Switched to ICS just because this phone let me do that. Prefer newer versions when possible.
