Hello all,
I'd really appreciate some help.
Just recently I notice that my HTC HD2 is no longer recognized by WMDC on my machine (a Windows 7 64bits). Initially I checked various internet sources for possible problems with WMDC setup, nothing worked. Then I tried to link between a Tytn II on the same machine, WMDC recognizes the connection, and was able to establish the link. So it looks my WMDC on the desktop is functioning appropriately.
When I use the USB cable to link the desktop with HTC HD2, the mobile is being charged. But there is simply no link so I have not been able to perform syncs. I even try to uninstall My Mobile Remote Adapter, and I saw the desktop was able to reinstall My Mobile Remote Adapter. Unfortunately WMDC still does not recognize the mobile.
Thank you all in advance.

My HD2 also stopped syncing with WMDC some time ago, both in my home and work machines... Both with windows 7 (on is x64 other is x86). So I think it could be some windows update... ?
I've disabled the "Enable faster data synchronization" thing and it works, but it is slow.
This happens every now and then for me, too. Usually, rebooting the computer fixes it, so, if you haven't done that, do it. Another thing to try is connecting your HD2 to a different USB port, as that can trigger a redetection. Also, it's worth taking a look at "Optional Updates" in Windows Update, since you may find a WMDC update there that was added when you plugged the device in.
Tried both methods but still to no avail
Hello Osprey00, and DeadVirus:
Many thanks.
I tried many a thing. Rebooting, and soft reset HD2, I installed almost every optional update except language packages, I also disabled the "Enable faster data synchronization" option. Unfortunately so far nothing is clicking. This is getting me frustrated.
So I appreciate all the help I can get and also would like to invite more friends to tip in. Sincere appreciations in advance.

WMDC
You have to download from microsoft "drvupdate-x86" file.

I had the same problem and took me a while to fix it. I am constantly flashing customs Roms and always sync my contacts and calendar entries after flashing. After a few flashes, WMDC stopped recognising my phone. At the time i didn't do a Task29 before flashing and i think that was confusing my pc (don't ask me how!!)
Anyway, i did a Task29, flashed the rom and it has worked everytime since. Dunno if this will solve your problem but its worth a try
I'm also on Win 7 HP 64 and I always use task 29 before updating the roms (about once a week) and I never have this issue, so it may well be worth running task 29 and flashing again
SOLUTION
I had this and it ruined my life until I followed instructions on this thrtead. Loads up all the drivers you need and no problems since!!

Hello, thanks. Well, my desktop is Windows 7 Ultimate/64 bits. drvupdate-x86 would not install. I installed 64bit version of the same software. Best wishes.

I tried but could not install WMDC 32bits. It complained that it was not for this machine.
Thanks any ways.

Thanks, but this sounds more complicated. I have never flashed a new ROM on HTC HD2 myself. Given I have been rather busy, I have been looking for an easier solution. Best wishes.

John,
Thanks. The more I read about this thread, the more confused I have become. It seems to have something to do with Task 29 as another friend suggested. Best wishes.

Hi all,
It's been a while, but I am back with HD2. I have a problem. I have win7 business on all off my computers, I instaled latest activesync, but I keep getting error connection. When installing drivers, I get the unknown device, so instalation failed.
Not even bluetooth recognition works.
Any suggestions, please?

If you are using Windows 7 Business, I would guess you mean you are using Windows Mobile Device Center, yes? In Windows Device Manager are you set up to automatically download drivers? Are you getting any errors in the Sync Center? There is a lot of information you have to supply before anyone can troubleshoot the problem you are having.
There are a lot of steps you can take, most of which you can find by doing a search of XDA. If that fails, then come back with a more detailed explanation of what you have done, and people will try to help troubleshoot for you.
Thanks for looking,
and yes I have been searching a lot for information allready before I made a new thread.
I have win7 business and yes it does download drivers automaticly.
I will try and search for manual driver setup, but would be very thankful if any of you could give me some hints.

In Device Manager you can click on Portable Devices and see if you see your HD2 there, if you do, then right click on it. You can find options to manually install drivers. If that does not work, in the Mobile Device Center you can configure how the center is supposed to connect to your HD2. Have you tried that yet? Also, make sure you are not using a USB hub for connections. You can try changing USB ports to try to reinstall drivers.
I am trying hard, this is the error I get:
P.S.: in activesync all options are on, so no problems there, but I have tried all of them.
In that case, try uninstalling the device in Device Manager, and starting over again. It does seem to be a driver problem. Another trick you can try is on the HD2, under Settings, USB to PC, try unticking Enable advanced network functionality, and then try to reinstall the drivers.
Another thing you can try is deleting the partnership in Windows Mobile Device Center and creating a new partnership.
Is there a wa I could find the driver somewhere and install it myself?

In the Leo ROM forum the thread on MTTY has some Windows 7 drivers you can download I believe, but that will take awhile.
Are you using Win7 32 or 64 bit?
win7 32 bit. I tried to download them through windows update, but I got an error as well.
So I am on a quest for drivers....

If you are familiar with computers, you can try this with Win7 drivers you download for HD2.
You did try uninstalling your device in Device Manager, and trying another USB port to install it on? It seems really odd that Win7 is not finding the right drivers for you, and that persists even after you uninstall and reinstall the device.
No luck so far, any more ideas?
Update:
I tried the same thing on another laptop, same specs, same win7 business, worked like a charm.
So must be this win7 problem I think. Any ideas what to do? I can't remove mobile device center, so I could try and reinstall it. The icons stay in my control panel.
Anybody?
I just can't imagine this is only happening to me.

Did you have any luck yet in solving the problem?
Nope my dear helper,
I found out this is windows7 problem. I still get the first error can't install device driver, because the device is not installed on the computer.
Something must be wrong, but I was getting a head, network driver installed fine, windows mobile device program runs fine, I made a clean install with register delete etc...
I just can' seem to find this to work.
i had some problem the first time i plugged my HD2 on win7 64 ultim.
nothing happened, no activesync, no nothing...
i opened sync center, nothing...
windows updates found me windows mobile device center with upgrade devices, the thing installed but all still worked bad, impossible to activesync, no driver for my HD2, and i know nothing about phones and windows, it's my first windows mobile.
so after hours of fighting, i decided to DL the app windows mobile device center on microsoft download website, then i installed the thing and oh miracle, my HD2 was detected, the app Win M D Center was asking me now with the pic of my hd2 in the prog to chose between settings as the first thing installed by windows update always froze at win mob device center splash screen...
i resume here but it took me the all afternoon to finally resolve this problem.
something went wrong with windows update install and to reinstall the all app was the easy way to fix the activesync problem.
If you did already re-download Windows Mobile Device Center and that did not work on the one recalcitrant computer, maybe you might need to update your BIOS or download the latest drivers for you motherboard. Sometimes problems can crop up if the computer does not have the most updated BIOS and motherboard drivers. How old is the computer you are using?
Well, after calling microsoft support and HTC support and doing for 36 hours nothing but trying I finally reinstalled my hole system. So new clean install of windows 7 business and it works like acharm. Where did it went wrong, I don't know, there had to be some register issue I think. Windows mobile center worked ok, the connection with the phone worked, but just not recognizing the device. Well I would of done the instalation sooner, If I knew this one is gonna be so hard to do.

Well, glad you finally solved your problem, and that this time the blame was not just placed on HTC or the Leo. Sad though that you had to go through so much to get the darn thing to work. I just installed a new operating system for my neighbor, and there is still more work to do on it. Not a fun thing to do.
I have searched this issue throughout XDA and web without joy so perhaps someone can offer some advice.
I am running Windows 7 and using WMDC to sync to my HD2. I can establish a link ok but when flashing a new ROM, Radio or HSPL, the USB connection is lost when it enters bootloader mode. Therefore the instal fails. I try over and over again and occassional a new driver loads (HD2 USB, etc) and the flash completes.
I have seen that this seems to be a big issue for others as well but there doesn't seem to be an answer posted yet.
My solution so far has been to revert to my old faithful XP with activesync 4.5 which works a dream!
Any feedback appreciated - beginning to think W7 with WMDC is a waste of time......
Thanks
put the phone into bootloader manually and attach the usb cable. does "serial" change to "usb" on the phone? if so run your flash and report back.
try all your usb ports, try to use one around back of the pc, not one mounted in the case outer in a hub.
also be sure and run customruu as administrator (right click and "run as administrator")

Did all that and same thing - no joy. In bootloader, goes from serial to usb but flashing HSPL2 (as example) fails. Various ports tried.
Is W7 WMDC a waste of effort? As I say, have seen others stuck in a rut trying to overcome this problem.
Perhaps I have driver problems? Will firewalls or virus s/w cause issues?
Thanks
in the rom thread did you check out task 29 without drivers for win vista and win 7 give that a quick read may help you out,
Thank you (i'm polite)
I use w7 no problems. the usual reason for hspl failing is the usb socket chosen. on both my machines if I use any port except the 4 built onto the main board it fails, even though I can use those ports to flash roms no problem at all.
some have also reported problems with their av software detecting hspl as containing a trojan when downloaded, and it sometimes gets disabled.(as does customruu occasionally)
other than that.... can't help sorry.
so did you get sorted
Will be trying the Task 29 idea later when I have some spare time - thanks. By the way, it is on all flashes - radio, custom ROM, etc, but using XP it is easy peasy!! Just anoying as my laptop is W7.
yes i find it so much easier on xp, untill i tried this new method with task 29 so much easier
SUCCESS!
Thanks - ran through the thread [REF] The DEFINITIVE MTTY Thread!! MARK 2 - HD2 Edition and all works great now. Uploaded new energy May 28th ROM and changed radio to 2.08 using this process (from Bootloader rather than activesync) and to quote a merecat - SIMPLES!!

Perhaps someone could add a link to the MTTY thread as I think this is a problem with activesync and windows 7 for others too.

Well, the MTTY thread is a sticky. For good reason!
MG puts very detailed instructions for us Windows 7 people and if you do a quick search along the lines of "WMDC windows 7 problems", you'll get thousands of posts from other W7 users who can't sync for many reasons. Conclusion: Windows 7 is a bit flakey when syncing with WM phones. And yes, XP is almost fault-free using activesync...
In my case, it got so bad I had to re-install Windows 7 before I could connect to any of my WM phones. Now it works fine (touch wood).
Glad to hear you got it sorted.
Hi!
Some day HTC-Sync (2033) could not find the phone (but it worked before!) so I uninstalled all HTC-software and drivers. Then I installed the HTC-Sync again but now the OS can not recognize the phone. I tried to install the drivers manually but it did not work too. When I try to select the driver manually, I always get the message 'No suitable driver found in this directory' or so... - 'Unknown Device' is all I can see in the device list.
I tried the same procedure on 3 computers running WinXP SP3, Win7 32bit and Win7 64bit - without success.
(an other android phone (t-mobile pulse) does not have problems with these PCs)
Does someone has an idea?
I also tried all drivers I could find in different forums (xda, modaco and some others), read hundreds of posts but nothing helped. I always used the original USB cable; the AV-software was inactive.
The phone is not rooted, it runs original the original HTC-firmware (Kernel 2.6.29-gf922713, Build 1.67.161.18).
please help... :-(
If you are using "Advanced Task Killer" (or something like that) you have to make sure that "PC-synchronisation" is added to the list of apps wich will NOT be killed by this program. Otherwise the "PC-synchronisation" software on you phone will not launch when you connect your phone to the computer.
If it isn't listed, try adding it to the list and then reboot your phone, so "PC-synchronisation" will launch again.
Hope it helped!

no, I'm not using any task killer apps.
... I also have tried to use Ubuntu 10.4. The result was the same as on Windows-PC - no connection. The t-mobile pulse worked with Ubuntu fine.
Maybe the Tattoo is broken? or the USB cable? (I do not have another one).
Would a factory reset help? I do not want wipe the phone if it is unnecessary...

ok, I've tried another USB-cable but it did not helped. The issue is still there and I always get the unknown device message...

Maybe , because you've got a 64 bit system or if you use a custom rom Htc sync does work
checks if htc tattoo driver are installed correctly
Maybe factory reset
Maybe factory reset will help becouse that is the problem I had before when I tried to install recovery and those shi%&. Then my screen went dead so I had to unroot my phone and factory reset it. Surprisingly, after that my phone worked with laptop.
I can send you that htc sync.apk or pc syncronisation if I find it on ICS.
Which rom do you have?
Problem was with a cable.
My phone was not rooted, until now, but the problem which made my PC not loading a Tattoo was, believe it or not, CABLE...
Now everything is ok, and I enjoy my Tattoo with GB ROM...
Thanks to all, appreciate it!
Anyway to manually get the drivers for it? I can't find them and I can't sync my device to my computer. Windows Mobile Device Center won't work at all, it doesn't recognize my HD2 and it says the driver installation fails.
Can someone help me out please? Thanks
Windows Mobile Device Centre was all I never needed on my win7 x64. I installed the program before inserting the HD2 though. Obviously make sure you have the program up and running before plugging in the HD2 and selecting activesync on it; It should load up. You could uninstall the driver (from device manager) and start again if all else fails.
What if it does not?
Started doing that "cant recognize" issue while installing NAND (at the radio installation process -r: 2.15., compatible)
Figured to go to stock WinMo with SDCard, but it still cant..
Faster data sync disabled, after that it tried to install the drivers again, but says it fails...
Gotta go to ms and install the updated win mob dev c. The one that ships needs updating.
Also, once you are into the android side of things you should open wmdc, connection settings, and turn off allow usb connections, and install the android usb drivers.
Thanks mate, but done everything, I mean everything. Now I'm totally stock, original SPL and original WWE ROM, everythings working like a charm, besides connecting to a PC. Also tried with another computer (XP) and another cable. I can say I've done everything I found on the net, but nothing helps. Uninstalling driver, uninstalling HTC Sync etc etc etc... I have been using it win 7 64 bit since the beginning. and I never have a problem with the driver.
Try redownload and reinstall Windows Mobile Device Center from Microsoft website.
Only connect your device after the driver has been properly installed.
in device manager delete usb controller after software installation.
Thanks to ALL, but changing the USB cable, so sure that's ALL? =)
I'm not gonna mention that I've written that I've tried it with many computers and many cables. =)
The phone is sent to HTC and they told me that they ordered a new mainboard.
Hope doesn't take too much time. My Service Provider gave me a Galaxy 7500.. Cupcake, no market.. arrrgh!
Thinking of buying an iPhone and selling it after two weeks but that's gonna cost me $200 loss in two weeks. too much =)
As doing some thinking.. the device cannot "introduce" itself to the computer. I couldn't find a more sense making answer.
If you've tried hard-resetting, cable and PC changing, if it's still not working, then there should be a problem about the phone, mostly about the mainboard.
I suggest anyone having that problem go make your phone check at a service, of course if you have warranty. =)
Hi everybody,
I hope you can help me because I really can't find the solution:
When I connect my HD2 WP7-device to my computer it charges, but isn't recognized.
- Zune won't start automatically and won't find any device.
- Device Manager doesn't show any unknown device or something that could be my phone.
What I have tried so far:
- Used a XP3 and W7 x64 machine (also ones without any history with a WP7-phone)
- Used a lot of different cables
- Used a lot of different USB-ports
- reinstalled WP7
- reinstalled zune
- (de)installed activesync
- I'm not sure, but first I had a dual-boot solution with Android and I recall USB also didn't work there.
I started to think the USB-connection of my phone might be broken, but when I use MAGDLR, the USB works as mass storage and I can also use the USB flasher. The Bootloader also works, so I tried the following:
- (using bootloader) restored the HD2 in its original state with a official stock ROM and original (locked) HSPL
- Installed a Android ROM: the USB also does NOT work with WM6.5 or Android.
Does anyone know anything I can try now? And Yes, I have read all of the threads of other people with USB-issues and the MS-solutions, but none of them had the solution for me...
Coffee-donation for whoever has the golden tip
Hello guys, I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I am facing a similar issue.
I installed the LEO70 ROM on my HD2 when it first came out, and forgot all about it. I now want to install the NoDo (7932) update to test it out (and maybe move permanently to an Android ROM eventually when I decide I don't like it). I am facing an issue; I want to upgrade my MagLDR to 1.13 (from 1.12) and ROMUpdateUtility doesn't recognize my phone, giving me the 'Error 260 - Connection' error.
I did remove Windows Mobile Device Center a month or two ago... could this be the problem? I have the latest Zune software installed on my Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (x86-64) machine, and when I plug in the phone, Zune automatically starts and recognizes my phone, telling me there's a phone update available (from February that I need to install to enable future updates). I know it will kill my phone, so I won't install it. Also, USBMassStorage mode works nicely.
Any ideas?
Hi sclip,
I don't mind if you try to find an answer to your problem too, but it seems like a different one, because mine does work in bootloader/magdlr-mode.
BTW. I just installed the stock WM6.5 Rom of HTC, and USB still doesn't work! Can it be the radio of hardSPL or is it just broken?
****, after installing the stock WM6.5, it won't install another Radio/MAGDLR using bootloader, it stucks at the 0%.
I think I might haved destroyed my HD2

since youve tried just about everything else try this
try using USBDVIEW and delete all the USB drivers
also install it on a different PC that hasnt had WP7 connected to it before
to continue with fault testing will requirer us to rule out the PC or the phone, at the mo it could be anything.
since you have Windows 7 install the XP virtual machine and use that, i believe the VM now supports pass through on USB so it should work, i have an old IrDA adaptor that wont install on my w7 PC but it will on the XP VM
