Dell will push Google's Android 2.2 OS to its Streak handheld devices in a matter of "weeks," a company executive said this week.
It says 'a matter of weeks' not 2 weeks, i was expecting to be out well before christmas anyway to help sales figuers.
I like to fart in shoeboxes
Point taken, i stand corrected

There's a world of difference between 'a matter of weeks' and '2 weeks' and one is set defined with the number 2 the other could mean any number of weeks.
I don't know where in the world you are but there's a big thing in the UK at the moment with broadband companies quoting 'up to' in their specification.
eg: 'up to 8mb a second' the fact is it's perfectly legal as it states 'up to' and carries no defined number, like 'a matter of' for example.
Like the word 'several' like i had sex several times last week now that could mean three or twenty three couldn't it
Now the word 'couple' is completely different altogether, if you say 'i had sex a couple of times last week' then of course that means twice, because of the global association of the word 'couple' with the number two.
Now if i said 'i had sex with a couple last week' that throws up all soughts of figures and other stuff which we shall not go into here.
So if the quote was '2.2 released in a couple of weeks' rather than '2.2 released in a matter if weeks' now you see the difference.
Great expaination CHECKBOX111
As a general rule a.matter of weeks is up to 4.
More than that and you are in month territory. Thats providing the spokes person at dell has a reasonable grip of grammar

Since this thread is already filled with snarky nitpickings, I would like to comment that perhaps this is more of an issue with word choice than of grammar.

wow i just hope we get the 2.2 in the middle of November.... that would make me happy....
I just hope we get decent working software not the rushed buggy crap that was 2.1, they can take a dozen weeks so long as everything works properly.
any idea what stage ui looks like? i have a feeling i wont like it.
Can it be worse than what's on stock 1.6 right now

This is great! We now know who is bringing the next nexus phone! and they will probably be doing it for a long time. This was probably the best company to merge with

Do we? Don't most of the rumors still strongly point to Samsung?
Personally I dig it only because I like Google and want to see them armed with an arsenal of patents so that Android won't be killed by patent trolls. Never had a Moto phone myself but I haven't heard great things. Aren't they known for having crappy, break apart build quality?

yeah its still up in the air to who the next nexus phone is going too.
Well I will probably get flack for this, but here goes. Before you get all happy about this aquisition by Google. Remember who Motorola has been in bed with for the better part of their phone "Greatness" , Verizon . The original we're going to throttle your data, you better not be tethering (even though your paying for unlimited) , if we can't charge you for it you can't do it, we're going to control everything you do on your phone carrier. So even though it's Google new company, the employees are still the old regime. With the old habits, especially the Executives. I'll always remember a quote from one of Verizon's press releases stating " the Companies bottom line is always the most important aspect in considerations involving customers" . I understand this true for any company. But to say it in a press release like that says a lot about how they perceive their customer base. Yes, I understand this is only my opinon
No flack here, you make avalid point

Wouldn't make sense. HTC makes great phones but do not have the large patent portfolio that Moto has built up over many years in the mobile industry.
^ Shift Faced
i live in seattle and googles from redmond, theyve been on the news about this quite a bit and theyve even said themselves they just wanted the patent portfolio to help in defending android and the developers against apple, microsoft and the rest of the other bull**** patent trolls.
I see where this will certainly help Google, and Motorola, with regards to patent lawsuits. But how will this help Samsung, and HTC? Is Google going to step in, and say "Get out of here, patent troll....check this out....PWNT!!!"

I'd imagine that since these patents are typically incredibly vague such as "scrolling menus" that if Apple sues HTC or Samsung over infringing on one of their vaguely worded patents then Google could jump in and brandish one of their equally vague patents and say that Google actually has the patent for it, not Apple.

just so yall know i didnt see a splash screen for this new motoroogle or googlerola or whatever you want lol (it has only been a day) so i decided to make one. I posted it on im.nick.hellos new thread for splash screens along with some others i made.
I just have to wait for him to convert them into splash img format and a flashable.
SO GO CHECK IT OUT
BTW: I hope im not hijacking the thread. I dont think i am because it is technically about the thread in a way. but if i am please set me straight!
Edit: In regards to the post above there is no real reason to buy HTC
1)they are doing great on there own
2) HTC would not give up sense and google would not want sense
3) HTC would be like 3X the amount that Motorola was
4)Motorola already had made the commitment to android and that was its sole operating system unlike HTC where they make phones for WP7 and Android.
4) Motorolas patent portfolio is much bigger
5) Motorolas not getting sued lol
Just my 2 cents theres probably other reasons too
Google did it for the Patents
I heard its to help cover their a$$ with apple lawsuits

It really means a lot for me when someone stands up for everything we do...you don't have to agree with our government, you don't have to like our president, you don't have to support our "wars"...God knows I don't...but in the end, those of us who chose to serve still have to follow orders, and we make many sacrifices for the life you all get to have.

Apple's Siri voice control system is as a 'digital personal assistant' designed to allow you to talk to your phone like you talk to other people.
Many Google Android functions already have similar apps built in - although not quite to the specifications of Apple's much-hyped control systems.
Now it seems Google may be about to unveil an official Android rival to Siri - called Majel after Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, the actor who played the voice of the Starship Enterprise in Star Trek.
The name was reported by sources speaking to the Android and Me blog this week.
The name tallies with earlier comments from Google staffers about a 'Star Trek'-like approach.
Google is definitely working on such a system - and this week announced that it had acquired the company Clever Sense, which offers a voice control app.
'I say this year because I’ve heard that engineers at Google X are working around the clock on finishing the first release and the NYTimes previously reported that one product would be released by Google X this year,' wrote Android and Me.
Google X is the search giant's 'blue sky ideas' division - a secretive lab where engineers are free to go wild with ideas such as talking fridges and lifts that take you to space.
'A January or February release might be more realistic,' said Android and Me. 'Other more advanced features like controlling phone actions and applications with natural language commands are expected to come later.'
In earlier interviews, Google acknowledged that it was indeed working on such as product - and that it would be rather like the voice of the Starship Enterprise.
'Our approach is more like Star Trek, the Starship Enterprise - everything is voice-aware,' said Google's Matias Duarte.
Press thanks if you like the post

This doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. I have never found a use, really, for Voice Recognition on my phone.

Well, apple just applied for a patent on, well basically multitasking. Something their phone doesn't even really do.
I wonder how long it will take for them to blow all their cash suing other companies.
The sooner the better IMO.
I hope Google gets majel to do the voice for this app. Then fire a couple quantum photon torpedoes at Apple and make them have no patents and have to pay licenses to every single tech company in the world.
