that was very interesting, i wonder why HTC Desire got knocked out
i know Iphone4 had bad rep due the Antennae-gate issue, but Desire is not that bad of a phone, it's in par with SGS in regards to bugs and features
the only worth while difference between Desire vs. SGS is just the screen.
heck if they pitted Desire vs SGS i'll be quite sure Desire would have won, no complains about lag fix, or gps, just complains about proximity sensor issues, screens, HTC sense bugs, phone volumen and speaker issues, cpu speed on games, facedown speaker phone feature bug, pocket bug, and... well i'm sure i'm forgetting a few from the short time i was using the HTC Desire

You are very wrong my friend. Very. I had both and chose the x10 over it, sold the sgs and got my wife the icrap but the x10 has really strong points. Very stable, very good camera, amazing design and build, crisp screen with better resolution than sgs and better for text, flash light, led notification light and quite a bit more things.. the sgs feels cheap and light wich makes it feel even cheaper, lots of bugs, gps problems, shut down problems, no flash light, ****ty camera, tint issues, less resolution(can see pixels from a mile away) whites suck, its really ugly and for the week that we had it . 3 people ask me if its an icrap. And i can go on...

it's true about the bugs we have on the SGS, it's still going through its polishing phase, but from the sneak peak we've seen on Froyo, most of the wish list items are already in there. Although the gps and lag issue haven't been confirmed yet, but those 2 are just part of the long list of upgrades they have done for the phone, what i like the most about the upcoming changes with Froyo is the new BT stack, now we can finally use all the other BT devices that were not supported on Eclair
i would be interested in seeing a picture taken by the X10 to compare it to the SGS
the only grief i've got about SGS is Kies and the horrible volume on the HD 720p recording.
if some one can release an utility to allow configuration of the bandwidth and bitrate used for recoding then it'll be a killer.
as there is nothing we can do about the Kies software

I just say missing recovery mode...
Samsung support is still pretty crappy.
It's not that long on the market and you start to fear for future upgrades...wtf

there is the fix for the 3 button mode, just install it and you can get into Recovery Mode every time you want
unless you are referring to something else

Its already gone so i cant make a comparison at the moment but i can assure you the x10 camera blows the sgs away also the iphone 4s. I can make a comparison between the icrap and the x10 if u want. Also u can check out the thread in the x10 about pictures taken with it so u can get a feeling of what i mean. Also i think the sgs does have potential but its really buggy at the moment.

How about a video comparison? I found these:
SGS
X10
The X10 looks like crap to me. I don't like the way the phone looks either. SGS>X10>iCrap4

My Honest review of the Samsung Galaxy S

Well, I don’t know where to start, ok here I go, WHAT A PILE OF CRAP, I went from the brilliant HTC Desire to this crap, I was quite excited about the Samsung galaxy s, but I was shocked at the level of LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG, even to just make a standard call, I am waiting for a while for the Samsung to process the instruction, at times I have felt like throwing the fone out of the window, it is really bad, hopefully the update to froyo 2.2 will eliminate the LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG problem, or what I would advise is if possible install the Nexus1 version of Android 2.1, and forget about Samsung own crap software. HTC Desire here I Come.
This is a honest review from a very frustrated Samsung galaxy s owner, if I have upset anyone with my review, please accept my apologies, as that is not my intention

:-| .. did you get the phone and go straight into posting this, or have you been following the forum?
I'll let you take a guess.
And i think we're getting trolled here, although some apps lag a bit when you open them, i NEVER had this problem with the dialer.
It always zooms right up.
Very troll like, theres 0 lag on my device, everything opens pretty much instantly.
Have you installed a task killer? I recommend doing so and getting into the habbit of running it every now and again if it slows.
to be honest, i've had the phone for about 2 weeks and i went from a old galaxy (i7500) which is the true king of lag. I notice slight lag on the galaxy S which increase over time, after being on for 3-4 days interface starts crawling almost to the same lever of i7500.
I dont know if the cause to the lag is an general android issue or if its samsungs incompetence...
2 things, go into settings and get rid of the animations and download launcher pro, this IS the best phone ive ever owned. incredibly light, comfortable to hold. just wish the camera was better/had flash and the screen had a higher resolution like the iphone. other than that i cant see how they would make a phone any better

Isn't it admitting defeat to the iPhone when you've got to turn off animations just to get the device to function properly?
I hate my iPhone and want to get the Captivate but stuff like this worries me.

not gonna lie, theyre both awesome phones, i just wanted the bigger screen, but honestly the camera on the iphone blows every other phones' out of the water. they just have the best sensor, which i dont get cause i thought they bought most their parts from samsung(why samsung started making their own phones) Samsung the new leader in android phones. HTC just doesnt have the production power

ok, but the 8MP camera on the Evo is not the 5MP camera on the SGS
the orinal poster may be an idiot but I understnad where he comes from........ I am frustrated with the Samsung speed and see enough posts about the lag problem to know that it isn't just me.
I am also a blackberry user (9700) and that is much faster going from screen to screen and for Email, RSS, Twitter and Facebook.
OK the experiance is a little dull and not fro graphical but is usable.
Using somthing like Newsrob for RSS is unbearable (even with downloaded articals, the HTML rendering is to slow) or when using the standard mail client and moving from one mail to another.
The exchange sync is also flaky with the calendar sync breaking, resulting in the config having to be removed and re-added. Push mail doesn't seem to be push mail and tacks an age to come through when compared to the Blackberry.
It might be one of the best Android phones out there but it still needs a lot of work to be my main phone and not just a toy that I fiddle with on the train to work.

I don't have much hope for samsung in Galaxy S either tbh, the hardware is good but i rely on the community on the software side of the phone.
And really, i dropped count of how many times i've was going to throw my i7500 into the wall, but stopped myself since i didnt want to pay for damages on the wall :-/
"LAAAAAAG" was never a big issue with this phone... compared to hd2 blackstone iphone and alot other smartphones i used to have over the years... after all u will have some if u decide to pick a smartphone .....
if u have lots of of it something is wrong ..
u can try using "advance task killer" and "minfreemanager" from market (free software)
this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723002 also gives a good solution if u like to mess up with the phone a bit more
my galaxy right now outperforms like any other smartphone out there
The op's post kind of rings true about how I started to feel but that was until I flashed to jg 1 (which itself was an improvement) but then put the modaco rom on it and autokiller from the market and now it performs superb and am happy with it. By all accounts, korea are sure to get froyo in august too so I can't help but think the rest of the world won't be too far behind, and even then if froyo is on a korean phone then I dare say there will be a rom floating around that's based on froyo in the not too distant future; while I look forward to see froyo on this phone, the way it performs now for me is excellent.
I will say although I have practicly zero lag now,I did have to flash to jg1 and custom modoco rom to get there.Initially out of the box there was quite some lag(although not as much as the op is suggesting). I also use taskkiller which is the same as minfreemanager but applies at boot. With this combination the phone is lightning fast but i can understand people not wanting to flash, root etc.Out the box there are probably better phones but put the work in and galaxy s is second to none.
I've done what I can with out rooting the phone, use Launch Pro, Startup Audit and Advanced Task Killer with some effect but not good enough and is poor when compared to the Blackberry or even my HTC Snap or E71.
I know the UX is not as interesting at the Galaxy but above all else it has to be usable and fast.
I've even had poor responce when answering calls and even though I have been pressing the answer button, the phone has not responded and call ended up going to vm.
I suppose that at somepoint when I have time, I will root the phone and install a modded rom but using modded roms should be about additional functionality, not about getting the phone to be acceptable.
I've just been trying to type a URL on the Galaxy while writting this and there is significant lag while typing, I can be several charatures in from of what is being displayed.
Just flashing firmware to jg1 makes it a hell of a lot better.Although jg3 will be better as the bugs were ironed out i belive
This makes me no longer excited about the galaxy? Why does it "LAAAAG" so much? It should have a very fast processor and only a 4" screen compared to the EVO's 4.3" screen. Although I do have issues with speed on my EVO... I think it's to be expected. It has a slower processor and a larger screen (more pixels to push around). Also, HTC Sense slows everything down.
I've never held a Samsung phone in my life... and I will definitely need to play with it before I actually buy it.

Thinking of jumping to Samsung Captivate- Canadian User

Hi to all Canadian users
Samsung Galaxy S series phone is coming to Canada very soon. Almost all the carriers has one. I am with rogers and they are getting the captivate.
I am really really tired of waiting for 2.1 /2.2 or just getting all the bugs fixed. There is no 65K screen, no multi touch (please don't start arguing that there is no use of MT, there are other forums for that). I don't even know how many other stuffs I should be complaining about....someone cares to fill them!
So yeah I am jumping the ship when Captivate comes to Rogers. Anyone else wanna join??
I personally think the samsung captivate lacks in style, and It's samsung you wouldn't get great support either. I ready stick with S.E design is much better.
Why did you buy x10 if you knew it had 1.6 firmware...
Its your choice my friend just look in the Samsung Galaxy S forum before you decide to buy it. Apparently there is a lot of people unhappy with it, problems like overheating, sluggish performance, burn ins on the screen, fast battery drain, bad build quality (cheap plastic) and lots of other things. I am also in Canada and looked at it as an option but i came to the conclusion that it wont be better than the x10 or at least not worth the switch. The fact that its a Samsung phone puts me away also, oh and no flash or light for the camera? wtf. Anyway make sure you read all the problems that people have with it before you buy it so that you know what you re getting into.
Yah im looking into the vibrant myself. Then again im also thinking about the n900 still. Going to check a bell store tomorrow to try out the vibrant. The screen looks amazing in all the reviews ive seen. Really gotta check it out.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Not a bad phone but i would say, wait a few weeks and after the launch take the decision.
It does some things better than the X10 (faster, multitouch, froyo), it does some things worse (no LED flash, IMO worse screen, worse build quality, poor support).
Just make sure you know the phone before you buy it. You probably won't regret it, but it's not any significant improvement (aside from OS)...
Look, if someone with a Desire or a Galaxy S wants to do a straight trade, then I am sold, but I am not going to go through the hassle of selling my X10, then forking over an extra $250 to get either one of those.
At that rate, I'd rather have the iPhone 4 (no reception issues with any that I've tested in Vancouver).
I would hop on the train as well, but I do not like the physical built of the captivate... If it was the i9000 or vibrant, I would have switched. I'm a sucker for Super AMOLED, I rarely use my phone outside, I always use it inside.
i would stick with x10 . i played with galaxy s today at bell . its a nice phone but the built quality is really bad and worse technical support and no flash . x10 is getting 2.1 end of month or early september so its not long of a wait. and iphone 4 is out of the question with consumer report rated it *dont buy it* u cant do much with it even u jailbreak it there there is alot of restrictions n stuff u cant do and android os u can customize the sh**t of out it . i did a test on iphone 4 and my x10 and x10 loads quicker and faster . even i was soo frustrated about to sell it. but u cant sell it for much so id rather keep it . the only phone i would get other then x10 would be desire . which is coming to telus august 6th
I would probably stay out of it.Checking out the forums. It drops a lot of calls and has some major GPS and lag issues. Of course, if you want to go by numbers you should go for the Captivate given it has a higher version of the OS installed. I have used the i9000 though and except for the screen, which is gorgeous, there isnt much there.oh and touchwiz looks like it has been ported from a funskool toy.
i had a samsung pixon12, build quality was cheap, and that phone stopped working after a month even after it was brand new, samsung didnt help me at all and i had to pay extra money from the store i bought it from in order to get it repaired. after that i never went back to samsung and i dont think i will.
the x10 is nice but u are right it does have its share of problems. if ur gonna switch u might as well make a proper upgrade and go for the EVO 4G or the soon to come out Dell Streak (5 inch screen!!/1ghz processor [ also runs 1.6 but soon to get an update supposedly])
anyways im gonna stick with my x10 for now until i can get a good price on the dell streak becuase i use my phone a lot for entertainment due to commuting to university, so a 5 inch screen would do me a lot of good
i dont reccomend samsung. HTC is fantastic though ive used the TOUCH HD/touch pro 2/HD2 and was very happy with them. but hated windows mobile. dont know about dell but if i make the switch ill come back here and let u guys know how that worked out lol
hope it helps u figure out where u wanna head.
Well, this is a thread about Canadian users, so the Evo 4G is out of the question, and the iPhone 4's "reception issue" is not a problem here, at least in Vancouver.
Also, as much as the Streak intrigues me, it is basically the same hardware and software as the X10 (1.6 but without lovely Rachel), and I'm not sure it has a TRUE multi-touch panel like the Droid Incredible either.
I've yet to play with the Galaxy S, but if it is as terribly built as some of you say, then the only other viable option is the Desire, which is put together like a tank and has LED flash. Its design is pedestrian, but the thing is SOLID.
Still tho the desire is not an improve ment over the x10. Think about it smaller screen, ****ter camera, ugly at front of x10 and screen issues like pink tint, burn ins and broken dualtouch, only thing better at the moment is software and a little more ram. I dont know why people think this way, you probably dont have your x10 set up right so that you think this way, I will probably make a video of mine and show everyone how fast, smooth and beautiful it runs I just have a feeling some people dont know how to use adw right and make the best out of their phone. I mean if your ready to switch your x10 for a desire there must be somthing wrong, In matter of fact there is a lot of people here that have switched from desire to x10 ask them why they switched.

Those screen issues affect the SLCD model? I wasn't aware of that.
Just because the screen is smaller, it doesn't make it worse since the resolutions are nearly identical.
I like the Desire because of its very solid build (have you held one?), extra RAM, and best of all, latest Android builds with HTC Sense.
That being said, the Desire is far more expensive if purchased from unauthorized dealers.

Most likely not the one with the SLCD but still explain how is it an improvement over the x10. Just the little more ram? Or the software that we will have soon?
I still wondering why people that would like to switch from X10 to another phone, post their suffer of having X10 here. You want change then go change, no need for second opinion from us.
I buy X10 knowing its Android 1.6, know that update will takes months to come. But i buy because i like Timescape and Mediascape, which is the main selling point to X10.
At my office, i have a lot of android phone for development test phone, i have HTC Dream, LG GW 620, Nexus One, Motorola DEXT/CLIQ, Samsung Galaxy Spica and my Sony Ericsson X10. I can say some of strong point of X10 compared to the other android in list.
Prebuilt media player is nice, compared to Nexus One basic player
The phonebook looks very nice, i like the full hi-res photo in the phonebook Timescape, plus seeing the photo when some one calling or we make call
Watching video while riding public transport in 16 : 9 screen resolution, without letterbox (most of movie i watched in phone is in HD ratio)
It comes with WMV, WMA playing capability
Timecape make me easier to read multiple one or two line SMS from my friends
Slick design of web-browser compared to other phone basic browser
Great product support (except for the firmware updates) from SE, like the PlayNow, i buy some songs with it, and also TrackID.
Stuff that is missing, but can still live without it
No multiple Gmail account can be set in the phone Gmail app (love the threaded view of gmail
Picasa and Facebook photo is not cache in the phone, have to download them everytime you want to see (this decision is made, because if the all photos is prefetched, people living in country with expensive GPRS will get mad, i know because i working in mobile sector)
No multitouch, but this i can live nicely without it
No Facebook and Phonebook photo autosync like Nexus One
So that is some of my opinion of why i choose X10, i guess some of us would think the same.
One think that i bit disappointed with X10 is that first when their haven't release, i though there will be a front facing camera, a lot of website says will have one. Which turnout to be Light Sensor or Proximity Sensor. hahaha.
But can live without it anyway, even though i like making 3g video call with my GF.
Got a chance to play with Bells Vibrant. Its nice. Its really nice actually. The screen is amazing. Its easily better than the x10's. Its very light. Didnt feel cheap to me, just insanely light. I guess to some that means cheap. The ui is too iphone like to me. But I guess we can always change that. I like the front facing camera on it, we all know this will start being used now that apple has told everyone they should use it. Also like the tvout function. Im definetely tempted to get it.

The Captivate is a nice phone, the best of the Galaxy S versions, it steals its looks from the X10 I would say, but I would never give up the X10's screen and camera. AMOLED? No thanks, HTC is finally abandoning those screens. Plus we're getting 2.1 the next month at the latest, and from what I know we can expect further upgrades fairly soon after.
As an aside I don't use the built in Gmail app, I find the web version is much better, is the Gmail app on 2.1 better then the one in 1.6?

It's in the software, man I like HTC Sense. Rachel is nice, but not with 1.6. The Desire should get 2.2 by the time that we get 2.1. Bear in mind, I have no "desire" to sell my X10 for a Desire, but I do admire its build. It feels REALLY solid.

[HELP] Desire HD or SGS i9000

GUYS I am really desperate I want to buy a new phone on Monday and I am totally lost as to what I should get. I finally figured out two phones I would like to get. Either the DHD or the SGS. They both have there ups and downs, and its really really really hard to pick one lol... u cant imagine how hard it is. Could you perhaps give me some advice as to what I should buy please? I would really appreciate it !!!!
If you search the forum you'll see there is already a thread for this.
I want my own
Do you mean sgh i9000 I can't find a phone called sgs i9000
I mean Samsung galaxy s i9000 aka SGS
I think you should definitely go for the DHD.. more ups than downs better quality (metal) SGS is plastic and simply looks like a old Iphone... blah bla... HTC rocks!
period!
Yep but it's full of bugs and badly made (battery and sim cover) upside however is HTC release fixes quicker and android upgrades quicker than most.
Problems at present are the laggyness, sim and battery cover issues, crashes on market, not so good camera, reboots occasdionally

Galaxy S for form factor, display Super Amoled best ever seen, because 10 millions people have it now and more and more will have later and will have the best support ever (XDA rulez, and if you see now there are some ROM which make it incredible fast and no lagg or crash, even better than Nexus One)
Than you can wait for Nexus Two
You will spend less to have the best in market now.
Why cant people just look in the freaking forum or use the search bar, theres already a thread about this..
Don't have all those problems no lagging no occasionally reboots.. crashes on market are true but not anymore now I can download and install all apps want fluently..
The sim cover is indeed a little bit of poor quality but I use a silicone case which compensate it.
truly, the design of the sim cover is good as it allows quick access to your SD and sim without having to remove the battery.
And about the battery... if you use your phone correct then there is no need to remove the battery.
Camera is perfect for stills in all conditions (yes also in the dark, due the dual-LED flash) Recording mode is good in good conditions but in the dark you can record while the dual-LED flash light is still on.. the quality isn't that perfect but it is good for me...

11 Nov Gingerbread release or the Nexus S release? But if it was the nexus S release then why would they bother making 2 events 3 days apart wouldn't it be more logical to announce everything on one day?
I had to make this choice a couple of weeks ago and went for the HD, not regretting it at all.
I'm not noticing any of the 'downsides' mentioned here (slowdowns, reboots etc).
True the battery and sim covers are fiddly and spoil the initial unboxing experience as you need to open them both to get your device working, but once you've got them back on (which there's a knack to) you need never touch them again and the rest of the phones build quality is excellent, the SGS felt very plastic to me when I tried it out.
Put it this way, my Steve Jobs worshiping flatmate said it's as good as his iPhone 4 which is a BIG admission from him... almost had a tear in his eye as he said it
I sold my SGS for DHD
I sold my SGS and got the DHD.
Now I wonder It wasnt really necessary. Screen on Galaxy S is really awesome.
DHD's screen is good. very crisp text but not as good as Super Amoled.
Speakers on Galaxy S is nice on the other hand speakars are just pure pathetic on DHD. I cant hear a while playing youtube videos. You have to uses the headphone.
I think problem with the camera on DHD is software issue. Needs upgrading. To be honest 5 MP SGS takes better picture than DHD in a well lit environment.
To make things clear. Issues with DHD.
1. Awful speakers
2.Bad camera software (hope its not hardware)
3. Battery and sim lid could have been better but ok for me.
4. Flash videos are laggy. ( Was better on SGS after the last Froyo update)
Now things to consider to get DHD-
1.Living on the fast lane (lol 1600+ score on quadrant)
2. big screen (black level not as good as SGS)
3. Feels solid than SGS. Good build except as mentioned above.
3. HTC sense.com experience. ( really good)
4.More frequent update than Samsung.
So cant think of anything for the time being
Also had to make this choice.
I simply held both phones in either hand, the DHD felt like it was worth something, the SGS felt like it was worth £140 + £10 top up on PAYG.
The SGS is a brilliant phone, but its light, plastic and feels cheaply made - it doesn't have that premium feel you want your nice new expensive phone to have
And the DHD screens a monster, all my iPhone 4 friends love playing Angry Birds on the mammoth screen.
I guess it's settled then... Unless Samsung comes out with the Nexus S in the near future I will be getting the DHD. Thank you guys for helping me !!!
Just get an iphone 4 best phone ever desire hd and galaxy s are terrible ;D

On the whole, is the Arc worth it? Opinions...

I am looking to upgrade my phone this week, going from a Sony Ericsson W995, and I am looking into getting the Arc. I have been set on it for weeks, but just read on the SE forums a few threads about the phone just randomly shutting off and not doing what it is meant to do.
I just wondered if people would recommend it or not, and if these posts are true or not?
Obviously every phone is different so some ones would reboot and some wouldn't. Mine doesn't everything works for me perfectly, the only thing thats bugging me is that development isnt doing too good, in not complaining cause I know it will come eventually cause the phone hasn't been out that long. I would go for tho phone 100% I cant find anything wrong with it so and ice had it for over a week now
Hope this helps u

Mine is up for 550 hours without reboot.
It speaks for itself.
Had mine since Mar 31st - and I love it.. had the X10 before and this is 100000000000000000000000000000000x better than that was!.. Had no real big problems with it.. only thing that people seem to consistently have issues with is a bug in the HD video recording which is causing the voice and images to go out of sync.. I'm expecting that they'll fix this in the next firmware release in June(ish)
Well, you are @ arc forum. most people like their phone per details they were looking for. On the other hand, you have to sort out your important facts which you are expecting from your next phone(which varies from one person to another).
Problems you have listed don't appear for everyone, whether I have been lucky with phone or not, I have never encountered issues like that with any of my SE phones.
Your best bet is to go to store and compare list of phones that you are interested side by side and see what makes you happy. but as far as me being an arc owner, I should say that satisfies my needs and I have not yet had any issue with it as everything is solid and moving forward.
I have to say, this phone is exactly what everyone requested from SE to make. Update hardware, software + get rid of all the SCAPES(which is sort of optional now and not integrated anymore) I just love this + possibility to have unlocked bootloader on certain models. What else can you ask?
just my 7 cents

And huge battery drain from stock camera app.
For 720p recording you can give up image stabilization feature for well-synced audio. For camera you have yo use 3rd party camera app like vignette.
I think this says it all - the Arc is the best single-core handset in the world.
That isn't to say that the Arc is without it's foibles; there are a few things could be better and it's a shame it lacks certain features like a front-facing camera or NFC but the pros outweigh the cons.
It's all down to personal needs though, as well as what sort of deal you can get.
If you can get, say, the Galaxy S2 on the same contract/deal as the Arc, there's really no contest.
Im also very interested in this i own a x10 and have some questions.im thinkin bout it but just dont think is worth getting . The x10 is unbrickable. Its getting custom kernels that are undoin SE's crap. Plus arc doesnt have any custom roms yet And i like the size and desighn of my x10 . And tthe x10 has a pretty strong xda community

Not sure, not that I'm aware of.
Yes.
Exmor R backlit-CMOS sensor - same sort of tech Sony use in their proper digital cameras. There are threads in the section with pictures taken by Arcs.
Battery life isn't great but on a par with other similarly-specced handsets I'd say
To be honest, you could've answered the bit about the colours and the type of camera by just looking up the specs.

Congrats on being the owner of W995. To me, that's the best non-smartphone without touchscreen ever made
You will definitely be very very happy with Arc. There could be something better depending on your needs but you can't go wrong with Arc and I think Arc is currently the best looking phone for my taste and I think it almost feels as good as W995 ;-)

Why? Because its dual core? That means absolutely nothing! Dual core is not even needed these days. Galaxy S was an over hype phone imo, ditched it in about a week to get back my X10, and the Galaxy S2 will be the continuation of Samsungs over hyped nonsense.

I simply stated the galaxy s didnt do a damn thing better or faster than what the x10 already did. Regardless of its specs vs the X10....it was over hyped.
*edit* sorry, the galaxy s video recording destroys the X10.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Yes, my mistake - you claimed they were basically equal which is still extremely questionable.
I'm not a Samsung person, I think TouchWiz is a horrific, iPhone-y, designed for and by 5-year-olds joke of a UI. And I think the Galaxy S is a cheap plastic PoS handset.
But it blows the X10 out the water every single day of the week - better screen, better CPU, more RAM, much more internal memory, better stills and video camera in my experience, better software support/upgrades (which is saying something given how poor Samsung are at that).
The Galaxy S2 is simply the best handset in the world right now, not only on paper but every review/hands-on with it says the same thing.
It's not just the dual-core CPU, though as time goes on that will definitely be a huge advantage over the likes of the Arc; double the RAM, a better screen (ok, a little less clear-cut than the difference between the Galaxy S and the X10 but it probably still edges it based on little things like viewing angles), significantly more internal memory, larger battery, better video camera - it's even thinner than the Arc!
So no, it's not just because it's a dual-core CPU (though that alone would be reason enough to choose it if the two were the same price - if you think it's not a huge advantage, you're short-sighted or lying to yourself), there's a litany of other advantages.
I'm not saying the Arc is a bad phone, it has genuinely wowed me and I really didn't expect it to but there's no point kidding ourselves that it's living on borrowed time before it's left behind.

Well, it's an advantage, but I'm a bit conservative when it comes to say huge advantage. Benchmark is great; But, it's an intensive number-crunching process most of the time. IMO, that deviates what I (and probably most of the users) use my smartphone for. I don't use my smartphones to calculate Pi, audio/video editing, etc.
I think dual-core will be shafted by quad-core even before the mass-adoption of the technology by the app developers.

That's the one good thing Samsung have done with TouchWiz (apparently).
Hi
I shall make an amendment to the agreement with my mobile op. and I am wondering whether SE Xperia Arc is a good choice. I have always use Nokia phones and I thought to buy Nokia N8, but I when I saw Arc I've changed my mind. Arc design and mutlimedia possibilities are great, but when I read about battery draining, lags, vid/audio sync problems I am not happy about it.
I am wondering if SE will fix this problem soon? Are these problems only software or maybe it is hardware failure? Do you think it will be repaired soon? When the next software update is expected?
Please help me to make a good choice.
Thanks a lot
hi.. battery drain is seemingly caused by a couple of software issues.. camera and google maps.. both of which should be fixed/ fixable.
lags - not seen many/any reports of lag.
video/audio sync - short term fix is either to use fwvga or try switching image stabilisation off. long term SE should be fixing that.
next update from SE expected in the next couple of months..

[Q] Some tiny questions about your SGS2

Hiii!
I want to buy the SGS2, looks like a very nice phone to me. Have you guys found any bad thing on your SGS2, I don't care about how little it is, I just want to know it!
Is it a good choice to buy the SGS2, or should I wait for the improved version? I don't want to buy a HTC, since their phones are ugly!
At the moment I got a Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, and I'm very happy with my phone. The camera is very very nice!
Well, I'm hoping for any reply.
Hugs,
Rachelle
The sound quality is not so great if you compare with SGS+Voodoo or even iphone 4
Despite this fact I think this is the best phone that I have ever used. And I've used a lot of phones.
and no offense but when i used XPERIA X10 i thought its **** . U should definitely go for sgs 2 its 1000 times better than x10.

As you have an X10 I won't suggest you to update atm cause X10 is still a doable one. Use it for another 6-7 months till next MWC and see what comes out then.

Thanks, I think I will wait then. For me the x10 is easily useable, much faster then the iPhone 4 I had, and also much better in every single way.
Also, someone here said something about that the sound quality is very bad, do you mean speaker or in-call or something else?
According to ithehappy's advise, I'm going to wait for 6-7 months ! But reply's are still welcome, because I can make other people happy with it
Are you kidding me? The X10 is one laggy POS, im guessing you havent used it
As far as today goes, the X10 isn't as bad as it used to be compared to how it was last year. The 1.6 and all the bloatware on it killed any potential performance the Snapdragon is supposed to give, and I will have to admit as far as Android phones goes, that was pretty much the worst one I've used.
Fortunately its boot loader is now unlocked and custom ROMs are now being provided, in addition of Sony Ericsson finally releasing Eclair for it. No software updates will make up for its deficiency, which is the lack of multi-touch controls. The hardware is nice; I've gotten many questions and inquiries about mine (I got the white one), but given the experience with it, I can't help but be skeptical about getting the Arc, Play or even the Duo.
I've had pretty much every GSM Android handset that has been released in the U.S., and the Galaxy S II definitely lived up to the hype. I had my Atrix on eBay by the same night that I received the Galaxy.

Uhm, the x10 bootloader is not unlocked, and there were already ROMs. Also 2.3 update is near for the X10.
Uhm, x10 is only laggy because of a FPS cap I read.
they should make the copy paste function easier like IOS
1080p zooms in which is an issue if ur trying to make a video in a place that is small
i have to click noise reduction everytime ( im not sure if it off or on ) i talk on the phone so people on the other line can hear me well ( i hope MIUI cm7 or an app would just make it off/on all the time )
touch sensitivity(required more movement than usual to make it react) which can be fixed ( seen an app that demonstrated it )
everything else ..... PERFECT
Frankly I think the display is a little too small. Other than that, I couldn't be happier with this beast.

My apologies for assuming that the boot loader was unlocked out of assumption that it had ROMs for it. I'm rather surprised that SE will continue releasing updates for it since I remember last year that they twitted that Eclair was to be the last update for that handset.
Regardless of that, 2.3 is not going to give it multi-touch and the lag issue I had was with the responsiveness of the system, not menu scrolling lags or game performance. I give every handset two weeks for evaluation, and since day one, I've had issues with the X10 in terms of wake-up, the hanging or freezing I get when opening settings or other applications, and sometimes not responding to initial input and requiring a second or third tap to open or select something.

Truthfully, nothing besides getting a little hot at times. It just can't put up a fight against the Galaxy S II in any category; the Atrix has a higher capacity battery, but the battery life comes up short compared to the Galaxy. With my current usage, the Atrix would have to be on the charger by nightfall, but I'm able to get away without charging the Galaxy until at least noon by the next day.
