GUYS I am really desperate I want to buy a new phone on Monday and I am totally lost as to what I should get. I finally figured out two phones I would like to get. Either the DHD or the SGS. They both have there ups and downs, and its really really really hard to pick one lol... u cant imagine how hard it is. Could you perhaps give me some advice as to what I should buy please? I would really appreciate it !!!!
If you search the forum you'll see there is already a thread for this.
I want my own
Do you mean sgh i9000 I can't find a phone called sgs i9000
I mean Samsung galaxy s i9000 aka SGS
I think you should definitely go for the DHD.. more ups than downs better quality (metal) SGS is plastic and simply looks like a old Iphone... blah bla... HTC rocks!
period!
Yep but it's full of bugs and badly made (battery and sim cover) upside however is HTC release fixes quicker and android upgrades quicker than most.
Problems at present are the laggyness, sim and battery cover issues, crashes on market, not so good camera, reboots occasdionally

Galaxy S for form factor, display Super Amoled best ever seen, because 10 millions people have it now and more and more will have later and will have the best support ever (XDA rulez, and if you see now there are some ROM which make it incredible fast and no lagg or crash, even better than Nexus One)
Than you can wait for Nexus Two
You will spend less to have the best in market now.
Why cant people just look in the freaking forum or use the search bar, theres already a thread about this..
Don't have all those problems no lagging no occasionally reboots.. crashes on market are true but not anymore now I can download and install all apps want fluently..
The sim cover is indeed a little bit of poor quality but I use a silicone case which compensate it.
truly, the design of the sim cover is good as it allows quick access to your SD and sim without having to remove the battery.
And about the battery... if you use your phone correct then there is no need to remove the battery.
Camera is perfect for stills in all conditions (yes also in the dark, due the dual-LED flash) Recording mode is good in good conditions but in the dark you can record while the dual-LED flash light is still on.. the quality isn't that perfect but it is good for me...

I am reeeeally hoping to see a Nexus Two or Nexus S as some call it at the Samsung event tomorrow, but some sources say that it is being delayed due to a hardware issue so is it worth the wait lol?

11 Nov Gingerbread release or the Nexus S release? But if it was the nexus S release then why would they bother making 2 events 3 days apart wouldn't it be more logical to announce everything on one day?
I had to make this choice a couple of weeks ago and went for the HD, not regretting it at all.
I'm not noticing any of the 'downsides' mentioned here (slowdowns, reboots etc).
True the battery and sim covers are fiddly and spoil the initial unboxing experience as you need to open them both to get your device working, but once you've got them back on (which there's a knack to) you need never touch them again and the rest of the phones build quality is excellent, the SGS felt very plastic to me when I tried it out.
Put it this way, my Steve Jobs worshiping flatmate said it's as good as his iPhone 4 which is a BIG admission from him... almost had a tear in his eye as he said it
I sold my SGS for DHD
I sold my SGS and got the DHD.
Now I wonder It wasnt really necessary. Screen on Galaxy S is really awesome.
DHD's screen is good. very crisp text but not as good as Super Amoled.
Speakers on Galaxy S is nice on the other hand speakars are just pure pathetic on DHD. I cant hear a while playing youtube videos. You have to uses the headphone.
I think problem with the camera on DHD is software issue. Needs upgrading. To be honest 5 MP SGS takes better picture than DHD in a well lit environment.
To make things clear. Issues with DHD.
1. Awful speakers
2.Bad camera software (hope its not hardware)
3. Battery and sim lid could have been better but ok for me.
4. Flash videos are laggy. ( Was better on SGS after the last Froyo update)
Now things to consider to get DHD-
1.Living on the fast lane (lol 1600+ score on quadrant)
2. big screen (black level not as good as SGS)
3. Feels solid than SGS. Good build except as mentioned above.
3. HTC sense.com experience. ( really good)
4.More frequent update than Samsung.
So cant think of anything for the time being
Also had to make this choice.
I simply held both phones in either hand, the DHD felt like it was worth something, the SGS felt like it was worth £140 + £10 top up on PAYG.
The SGS is a brilliant phone, but its light, plastic and feels cheaply made - it doesn't have that premium feel you want your nice new expensive phone to have
And the DHD screens a monster, all my iPhone 4 friends love playing Angry Birds on the mammoth screen.
I guess it's settled then... Unless Samsung comes out with the Nexus S in the near future I will be getting the DHD. Thank you guys for helping me !!!
Just get an iphone 4 best phone ever desire hd and galaxy s are terrible ;D

Even with 2.1 its pretty amazing phone, I cant even image when all the accessories along with 2.2 arrive......
Here is my quick review:
1. Will scratch easy if it falls. Needs a case.
2. VERY slippery and needs rubberized backing....this is a must
3. Screen is obviously amazing
4. Camera is also amazing. It has more features then my pocket camera ! Panoramic Mode is VERY cool and easy to use
5. TouchWiz or whatever is cool too, I like it. Dialer is better then Nexus. Camera is excellent. All Samsung Widgets SUCK big time. (I miss stock Android news widget)
6. Rooted super easy and uninstalled all JUNK.
7. It includes extra back cover.....dont know why because its the crappiest material they could have picked
8. Headset is 100 times better then the one came with Nexus.
9. Music player is simply THE BEST Android had to date. (5.1 surround setting, equalizers)
10. Speakerphone is excellent.
11. No noise cancellation. Although, I dont know if its needed. I saw a vid on iPhone 4 and it didnt look like noise cancellation was working.....
12. No LED notifications, but devs are working to get softkeys backlight to act like one
13. Even though the camera is good and low light performance is also good, its still missing the Flash which is a pretty big deal I think.
14. The backing is SO cheap that maybe it makes the whole phone look cheap.....need to replace it ASAP and then talk about its quality.....
15. Like i said before, Sammy widgets are pure junk !
Cant comment on battery. Power button on the side doesnt bother me. Size-wise its very nice, just a bit bigger then Nexus (not even close to HUGE Evo etc....). So far no problems and everything works like a charm.....I am aware of GPS issue but there is a fix already, so no worries here.....Oh and the signal bar seems to be VERY inaccurate, bars go left and right, looks like software problem, not like iPhone....
here is a stress test:

How are you switching? (Cost-wise speaking.) Are you just buying the phone outright?
I'm not going to touch another phone for a while. I'm mostly interested in Motorola's 2ghz smartphone in the end of 2010.
1. No LED flash
2. No LED notifications
3. No Froyo
4. No Vanilla android

The vibrant is nice. The battery life is good especially for a 4" screen. You are corrext touchwiz is okay at best.
The gpu on this phone is amazing. I was just playing the racing game ripped from the droid x and it was smooth as silk.
Just get a good task killer. So much ram you can open like 50-75 apps before it starts auto killing them.
The camera is meh. But normal for a phone. The 720p video recording is pretty nice.

Bought Nexus for full price, bought this on 2 year contract for $200 bucks...
Froyo is coming in Korea as soon as August and to all other countries soon after that. The phone is few days old in USA, soon there will be stock Android OS for it. This is pretty much the first phone thats available in Asia, Europe, and on all 4 carries in USA so I hope this equals good dev support.
Other things to note: 16GB internal storage, 720p very good quality recording, camera setting have a bug and some settings dont get saved, custom fonts for full OS, custom vibration sensation (very nice feature IMO)
I remember back in the days when Nexus got released........So many people were upset about 3g issue, touch screen, camera...etc.......this is including me....well I am not that upset now as I was with Nexus. But i have to agree, external materials used in Nexus are on TOP
oh yeah about 2ghz phones......I read that those will be battery hungry compared to 1ghz. and therefore will be for those who need "2nd laptop". I need my battery to last at least 1 day, and Hummingbird is overkill for me already

Glad you agree though with the Nexus One being on top
I was thinking about dumping my nexus for the vibrant but mainly because the 16gbs internal because I have 32gbs right now and its full. But I like HTC and would always pick it over Samsung and the vibrant looked too cheap for me and the no flash. I'm good with my nexus for now. Hopefully T-Mobile gets a new HTC android with keyboard with equal or better specs then the nexus or maybe Motorola but seeing wat they did to the droid x bootloader Idk.

I bought the N1 and its on it way, I was really happy and that was my final choice, until today I was checking out the Euro Version of the Galaxy S and it has 1900 mhz 3g which is used in my Area! I could have bought that and had a bigger/better screen, Better Processor, Better Camera, and Design (subjective).

Unless you bought it on eBay etc, you could just return it.
Also, Galaxy S = no camera flash (absurd), Android 2.1 (2.2 in 4+ months), and a crappy skin on it.
Yea I bought on eBay, Im sure its not a Big Deal, the N1 is a fantastic phone, I love it, but I just think the Galaxy S looks really nice! Haven't used one though.

I have used both, and while the Galaxy is a very nice phone, I can honestly say theres no way I would trade my Nexus One for a Galaxy S.
i wouldnt worry as much as you are. the nexus has a lot of advantages that the galaxy S does not. google updates, colored trackball, unlock bootloader, camera flash, superb build quality and materials and feel in comparison to the lightweight plasticky galaxy s, etc.
Thanks guys! Im sure the GS Is very nice but the N1 does indeed own!
ive actually been considering a galaxy s also and luckily my friend picked up one with his new contract a few days ago. after playing it with, i can tell you both are nice phones and you cant go wrong either way.
ive had my n1 for several months now so i have experienced many of the bugs the n1 has such as in rare cases, the n1 will send a text message to the wrong person (thought i did something wrong the one time it happened to but apparently its a bug; i text a lot too). i agree with the other poster in the feel of the n1 is better than all the other phones i have held and is only beaten by the new iphone.
my friend has the samsung vibrant, and for some reason, it doesnt have flash so if taking night pictures is a big deal for you, the n1 wins. however, i felt the the vibrant took better day pictures. the vibrant also has a night mode that is better than the other phones i have had, but is no replacement for flash. the same applies to video recording, vibrant wins during the day in both video and sound recording, and n1 wins in recording in dark places.
if gaming is a big deal for you, the galaxy s is the winner. i was playing psx4droid on the vibrant and although i didnt notice any speed improvements over the n1, i can tell you the vibrant supports at least a 3 finger multitouch, over the n1's 2.
one of the biggest flaws i felt the n1 had is the speaker. i am constantly missing calls and the quality is pretty bad, but somehow samsung managed to put in a worse speaker, or at least i thought so
Yeah, I don't think the Galaxy S is superior, more like on the same class.
Galaxy S has a better screen (larger, brighter) and more internal storage but no led notification, most likely no updates past 2.2, no camera flash. CPU is about equivalent. N1 seems better built. I just got my N1 two weeks ago and was also considering the Galaxy S but stock Android was what sold me on the N1.
It doesn't matter if the Galaxy S is better or not, a better phone will come along and surpass both phones. If you're not happy with the Nexus One now, you're not gonna be happy when every new big phone comes out.

Yup, but in six months when N1 is rocking android 3.0 and GS still has 2.1/2.2 you'd be much happier with a N1.

The N1 might be out shined in a few of those areas, but like others have mentioned, it will be the first to get Gingerbread. The Galaxy S probably never will. Samsung is going to expect you to purchase a new phone for 3.0 instead.

Ya but shortly after that, something else will come out running 3.0 that's better than the N1, its a continual cycle. I'm just happy that the N1 is an awesome phone in itself, another phone may be better but it shouldn't take anything away from what I can do with mine.

You are right, and I agree. My point is, in six months he might not be ready to get a new phone yet (like I know will be my case), and in that case it is better to have a N1 over the GS. That was my reasoning choosing the N1. Of course, there might be unofficial 3.0 roms available for both phones, so maybe it will be a non issue at all for the OP.
I agree. N1 has its own unique speciality. Galaxy S is better in may way (because it came out later) but Nexus One can be modified easily and there are a lot of developers for it so that u can customize it to ur liking
Everything on the nexus is awesome .. it's just the touch screen.. multitouch doesn't work well on games and emulators.. but other than that it's an awesome receiving all the love

I actually got my Nexus one recently and I'm fortunate that living in England pretty much all android devices are available.
I went there knowing the Galaxy S for instance can easily outperform the Nexus in most areas, especially in graphical terms.
I had a play with the Galaxy and two things struck me between that and the Nexus, I felt the Galaxy is too big and not easily pocketable and the 2nd was it just didn't feel like a precision bit of kit like the Nexus.
The Nexus just feels like it's in the top class when it comes to design and the Galaxy less so.
For me it's a no brainer, proper camera, beautiful device and it doesn't get all of the custom stuff over the top.
traitor
I am contemplating selling my nexus one and getting a galaxy s. I would be sad to lose the trackball wake and led flashlight that my fine rooted nexus brings, but I am tired of struggling to use my phone in the sunlight, and would be happy to have a more responsive screen and better GPU.
I had the Galaxy and it doesn't even compare to the quality of the Nexus one. The Nexus One is the best built device still today. The quality build is 2nd to none and the looks are just killer. I think the 3.7 inch screen is the best size for a phone. Go Nexus One. The only thing better may be the Nexus Two.
^ Well said! The Galaxy is not in the same league as the Nexus! Even though I do like the name

A friend has the tmo version. It is very nice. Smooth video recording with audio that is significantly better. No flash? As if the n1 camera and flash is anything to crow about. Lol. Photos don't have purple blobs in the middle on the vibrant.
But it was the video he got out of it that impressed me the most.
The n1 does feel better built.

Hey
So its getting close to the time when I say farewell to my DHD and sell it off to make way for the Samsung Galaxy S 2 . Is this a smart move ?
I thought about the Motorola Atrix 4G but in term of specs and availability it shows no advantage over the SGS 2. Another candidate was the LG Optimus 2x but honestly LG still has to sort out a lot of issues with that device.
Why am I selling my DHD:
- Heavy phone
- ****ty battery
- Poor HTC software support
Any recommendations and feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Id wait until htc finish their device release cycle in the 4th quarter.

Heavy? My hd2 is just about the same weight and feels amazing in the hand! Atleast better than the crappy Samsung plastic feel. Even though I'd trade my hd2 for a Nexus S anyday.

Poor HTC software support?? Are you kidding right? HTC has the best support so far.
I had a few Samsung phones. Support is not a strong point at Samsung.
SGS 2 is made of pure plastic. Are you going to trade full aluminium casing for cheap plastics???
Oh ... yeah.... My last Samsung phone was the i8000 a.k.a the Omnia II and in quality terms it was bad. Cheap plastic. For example the stylus that came with the package scratched my screen so bad for the first time that I used it... I could feel the scratch with my finger! The stylus was very abrasive ( bad constuction ).
DHD is a solid phone... heavy... I don't mind because it's a great felling when I hold it in my hand.
Battery is great for a 4.3 inch display. Trust me... I owned a HD2 and the battery was crappyer.
This is my opinion about DHD and Samsung phones.
If I were you I would wait for HTC to release the next generation of smartphones.
Anyway... it's your decision.
Agree!
I agree. I have a DHD and a SGS, IMHO TouchWiz is whoesome when side by side with Sense UI: it is laggy and widgets are ugly. Although the Hummingbird + PVR + Super AMOLED seems far better than Snapdragon + Adreno + SLCD, Samsung could not refine its software as HTC.
Choices...
Go with your gut. SGS2 is still younger and newer so it will in a way be a better phone than the DHD. If you're switching because of the weight, then go with Samsung. If you're also switching because of support, you'd be surprised to discover that Samsung is not better at it than HTC. Some SGS users around the world are still not getting Froyo unless they flash a custom ROM. HTC actually announced that they'll update the DHD and Z with 2.3 and custom development have already started so both stock users and custom rom users will enjoy the same Ginger goodness...
At the end of the day, it really boils down to your preference. I personally would stay with HTC than get a Samsung. IMHO, they're not in the same class, the only true competition to the DHD for me is the Thunderbolt (optimized productivity) and the NS is for the SGS2 (optimized gaming).

I've been contemplating the same move, mainly because it is the only 4.3" screen handset with a dual-core slated for release any time soon. I'm intrigued by the SAMOLED PLUS and can't wait to see it in the flesh, especially now the PenTile sub pixel arrangement has been ditched. That said, I'm not keen on TouchShizz (or SenseUI for that matter), and while the lightness appeals to me, the 'plasticky' feel of Samsung handsets has always been a turn off! Just referring to your point about HTC support, Samsung are no better and in many ways they are worse, so be aware before you make the jump.
The most important factor for me however is the development scene. I mean, that's why we're all here at XDA! Don't get me wrong, I know that it may well be an active scene with many custom ROM's based on Samsung Firmware but will there be CM? Will there be tailor made AOSP ROM's built to harness the power of the hardware. That is what is holding me back. The possibility of a signed or even encrypted bootloader is high, and the 2 separate hardware revisions (Tegra, Exynos) will hinder true development so until I've scene the forums being filled with weird and wonderful ROM's and Kernels, I will stick with the DHD. Recently the DHD scene has had a massive boost with the release of the Telus DHD and Inspire 4G bringing in a whole wave of North American interest in the device.
Anyway, the SGS2 is highly appealing with great hardware but for me I think making the jump early would be a mistake, unless you are happy with stock phones. Maybe I'll see you in the SGS2 section sometime in the future.
Regards.
I'll be ditching my dhd for the s2. HTC have gone down hill, they can't even align a camera lense! Customer service is rubbish too. Hate this poorly built phone.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
The SGS2 is gonna be a good phone no doubt. I personally like the "bigness" of the DHD coz i have big hands and i like to feel it in my pocket I even have a case that makes it even thicker.
I dont like Samsung smartphones they dont appeal to me somehow. Cant put my finger on it exactly but i think its a mix of the amoled displays which i dont like and the plasticy feel..
I cant say too much about the HTC support but i think its great that they're bringing the Gingerbread rom soon. Build quality is very good with my phone but i heard it can be different.
@Battery: It heavily depends what kind of user you are. But in my case the battery of the DHD is more than enough. With my use it lasts me 2 full days then i charge it overnight.
I think its a "how many days are you getting" thing with the battery. When you're a heavy user with everything enabled and everything syncing/pushing all the time it will last you a day. And i dont think thats gonna change with the SGS2. Maybe you'll have 30% left in the evening instead of 20%. So what you gonna charge anyway.
My DHD never lasted me less then a day even when i play games and watch movies and use my psx emulator. What do i want more? If i go on a trip i take a spare battery with me anyway.
I'd wait and see what HTC will release as a successor of the DHD.
So I dont want to go in the whole custom rom district because its not for everyone. But its just amazing how good the scene is with the DHD! They have a rom for everyone Guess we'll have to wait and see if there will be anything comparable with the SGS2.

To answer your criticisms,
- heavy phone, yeah the samsung will feel like a cheap piece of plastic against the DHD
- ****ty battery, it really isn't with a little TLC I easily get 24 hours of my DHD and with mad-murdocks battery fix even more is attainable
- Poor HTC software support, lol your off to samsung good luck with your updates
There are a lot of reason why my love for the DHD died faster than its battery apart from the reasons mentioned:
- GPS doesn't work for me despite the fixes
- SMS notification issue (which is seriously such a let down!)
- HTC Sense killing my android experience
If I was to pick one flaw that ruins this phone it is the battery. I have tried all fixes, tweaks and tricks. It goes only 4,5 hours if used constantly which is unacceptable... and that too is if I disable all the features this phone has to offer.
At least with the Atrix or the SGS 2 I will have 8-10 hour battery under normal Wifi/3G conditions which I need since I am quite often away from home travelling.
PS: im not gonna buy additional accessories like batteries or chargers that I need to carry around with me.
Every SGS I've handled (friends also had), totally four, are crackling all over the housing from back cover to display bezel. That was so complete turn-off and I just couldn't stand it, I had to sell the phone.
DHD on the other hand while being solid aluminium, has it's weak plastics and they are quite turn-off as well, but luckily some blu-tacks have maid my device completely noiseless what comes to cracklings etc.
SGS2 looks quite sexy, no doubt, but having the experience from it's predecessor I haven't even thoght about it yet. I got to see & feel it in hands.
Oh, does SGS2 still have RFS filesystem? That was truely horrifying with random lags!

I believe you i'd lose my love for my DHD too under these conditions :/ Strange thing though, i have none of them!
I really like HTC Sense when you disable the annoying parts like Hub or Likes. And as I said my battery lasts usually for 2 days, at least one (24h) when I use it really heavily with emulators, movies and long phone calls.
With some love (right custom rom - i use ARHD, maybe different radio, watching processes to find out cpu abuse, disable unneeded stuff with TitaniumBackup) the DHD is a great great phone.
Imho thats how android works, i mean its even based on Linux. Once you've arranged everything the way you want it, its awesome. But it needs some work to get there.
At this moment no one knows if SGS2 wont have its own problems or when it will be available, so i guess we have to wait and see till some real reviews come out.
If you want something that just works without worrying, with basic functions, but doesnt let you change things and arrange it the way you want, i suggest u go for an iPhone the 5th version should be announced soon i think.

I'll never go Apple. I'm too smart to fall for their marketing gimmicks
Would you rather have a samsung galaxy 1 or a desire hd?
Well you can get your samsung galaxy 2 and then you know whats going to happen!! HTC will release a beast and blow it out of the water, again.
Samsung make good internal components and then choose to plague them with bad software and lousy build quality, i'm not sure on the battery life on the sgs or sgs2, but the old on was a very good phone albeit with some sorry issues (ie touchwiz)
We had one in our work the other day (sgs2) and it was blazingly fast, apparently there's only 2 of them made and they were prototypes, it was super slim and very quick, quite impressed with it if i'm honest.
However HTC will always come out with something better though, as for the comments you've made, the battery is poor if your going to hammer it with gaming, music, a 4.3inch screen, wifi downloading, video streaming....etc and to name but a few of the things which the dhd does just superbly, I would just like to say that for the size of the battery, i think it lasts remarkably well. Oh and that's not even starting with the overclocking which most dhd users will be doing, i've had mine up to 1996mhz, never went higher than that.
The weight of the phone for me is great, i don't like light, cheap ass phones, if the samsung galaxy S was solid chrome with no touchwiz then it would have sold a hell of lot more.
As for HTC customer support, I have to say i've always had good service from my HTC products so i've never needed to call them, that's not to say that they won't ever go wrong but i've never had to call them.
From what i hear though they're not too bad, I've heard some stories about Samsung though.
My advice would be to see your contract through (if that's what you have) and then see whats on offer, timing is crucial if you don't want to make a bad decision when purchasing / contracting a phone.
I got lucky.
I'd wait for htc pyramid. That phone will be cranking. No point getting dual core now anyway because we don't really have the software to support it. You'd be like all those people who "upgraded" to windows xp 64 bit edition only to find a bunch of drivers were unavailable and 99% of the software was still 32 bit anyway.
Sent from my Desire HD pocket rocket.
Well,here's the rub.
The DHD is probably as fast as it gets for now.As dr.m0x said, the software we have now can't take advantage of dual cores. So they might be only a little faster, but most probably not because of the second core.
Sense,IMO,is the best Android UI(If i can call it that) up to date.Yeah,it makes the phone a little slow, but with such a beast the DHD is,I don't really notice.I had noticed on my Hero, that's for sure! It makes everyday usage easier and more appealing for the end user. Some may prefer AOSP/CM and they are right in some ways. It's fast,it's customizable,it's light and is the first to receive new software. But I'll stay with Sense on my primary phone(Am running CM7 on my Desire though! ).
Build quality is just wow.My pal punched me the other day and his fist landed on my leg, just on my DHD(I know,he is such a bastard! ).The thing didn't even get a scratch on it(well,so to say,it couldn't get scratched by that but other, worse things could've happened). The guy's hand was tied and sore for more than two weeks! There are some problematic phones, yeah, but not so many imo.Plus,it's aluminium, not plastic(I do hate plastic phones).
As for hardware,I generally agree the DHD isn't the most powerful beast out there. But it's got some guts.Really,REALLY strong guts if you ask me.Not just talking about power out of the box,but how many phones do you know that exist out there that can handle OCing up to 2GHz STABLE?The SGS hits some 45 degrees Celsius(dunno about fahreneit)on heavy usage(ie gaming) @1GHz.My DHD,after two hours of playing Angry Birds,Gun Bros and some videos,it never even reached 37(I have SetCPU notify me and underclock when it hits 37 degrees). Now watch my sig. It's running at a solid 1.8GHz.Get me a SGS to do that.If the plastic doesn't melt,I'm buying it!
Then there's developer support. It might not be what everyone wants, but I and most of us around here do care I think. There is word that the SGS2 has a locked bootloader. So it will either be unrootable(by that I mean custom roms etc) or it will be a pain in the @$$ to root it.Until it's confirmed whether it has a locked bootloader or not,I wouldn't consider it.But that's just me!
Not wanting to be a fanboy here, but the DHD is the purchase I regret the least.I did regret getting a Desire over the SGS,but that's not the case with the DHD.
So yeah,I'd agree with the guys that said you should keep the DHD for now and wait for HTC's dual-core offer.I bet it'll kick some ass!
I wouldnt do, i'm sure the SGS 2 is better, but why would it be worth? You got yourself already kinda expensive phone, selling your DHD would make you lose quite some money, ofcourse its true selling it now would bring more money then in 2 years, but I wouldnt do it.
I got mine DHD with 24 months contract, and well I most will keep the phone for those 24, not that it matters much, but I think its a good investment to keep a phone for atleast 2 years and then perhaps get a new phone after 2 years with a new contract of 24 months perhaps.
Wait until HTC releases there next desire HD, maybe desire HD 2? or the rumoured pyramid...
I've made a pact to myself that I will be getting the next nexus phone (nexus 3). It'll be the best for software updates (first phone to get it) and by then vanilla android should be awesome.

As soon as I can, I'm gonna go Nexus and never go back. Nexus is the face of android through Google's eyes, android as it should be. It may not have the best hardware for the duration of of being Nexus, but it will always have the best software. People are almost hitting the 4k mark in quadrant with no overclocks on their nexus S's.

i had sensation as second phone so i would like to share my feelings.
I purchased this flagship from HTC having HTC desire S, and also HD. Desire S is owned by my wife atm and she is happy enough. so i like HTC - thats for start
First feelings - impressed- nice phone. Got it - charged to full and lets rock!
Booting and starting to check out system. after 1 hour with screen on + wifi my battery went down to 35% - i say ok its the first cycle lets wait. - after one week its the same. if u wanna watch movie in plane while flying for about 2 hours u better take spare battery - not saying there is no divx support at all.
- keeping sync on gmail and just stand by eats the battery about 10% a hour! not touching the device at all.
-i though ok, lets live with pure battery anyway. but then it started. while holding the phone in landscape - death grip is saying HELLLOOOO i am here! loosing conectivity is normal - wifi disapear - signal went down 2. amazing. i coudlnt believe it. i had never suffered from anything like that -talking about HTC.
-web browsing - no hardware acerelation at all means opening web sites with heavy flash content is taking ages. not mentioning zoom in or out during the stream. while SGS2 can keep streaming during the zooming interval without any lags or issues! i was disapointed a badly. i can see small plus with the resolution - u can feel small diference - i mean better - sharper pages. but not brigther or lighter - the display is so reflective that u can use it as mirror and using the phone under direct sunnlight is almost impossible. so one more +handy mirror
someone rings you? hm how can u hear the phone if the volume set on max is extremly low - even my dog cant hear it!!! if u wanna share some youtube video with your friends they gotta put thems ears on the back panel in order to enjoy it. another disapointment - a big one. not speaking about the quality of the speaker (poor anyway) its about the noise level - being extremly low.
i said ok i like HTC so lets find something i can like/enjoy and finally be happy about.
camera/compare to SGS2 is a bit disapointing again. double flash doesnt help. i could paint better pics then sensation can make. i mean it.macro? what is it?
so i kept going and trying - still searching with hope i will like something.
i though ok i will use it as gps navigation in car at least. lol what a fail. after 4 hours on gps battery dead! maybe i am gonna develop double car charger 2in1 in order to keep sensation alive.
no i am not HTC hater at all. but the huge disapointment that HTC made this time is deadly bad. They made nice looking compact device without brain. its like ferrari with skoda engine and seats from seat. i though it will bring something extraordinary and special - even after installing costum roms - the battery improved and speed 2 - not browsing speed and the battery went up from 8 hours moderate use to 8 hours and 10 min - not mentioning juice defender on at all the times ofc.
so i just changed the sensation on local advertising web site for another SGS2 - u set the add and then meet the possible costumer in person.
and i told the guy that i made the deal with him - lets exhchange hurry - and now i will tell u what u did. U could see his frozen face! He become my friend now and after having almost all previous HTC devices he said he wont come back untill something better will be developed - on HTC side.
SO happy days guys here. And just small tip - sensation is the only one device getting closer in terms off hardware to SGS2 - but the reall power of SGS2 is deep in THE SKY!
I hope this will help some people with doubs about battery life and performance issues.
Once again - i have nothing against HTC and i like them, but i believe they didnt set up sensation well atm. looking at stats list it should perform much better then it does. just quick example - i dont like quadrant or bench tests once its fast and smooth i dont need any bench to confirm that. but the highest i could get from sensation was 3400 on quandrant with 1600 OC!!!!! lol
so i will end this with words;
HAPPY BRIGHT DAYS WITH SAMSUNG
forgive me for my broken english

The Sensation is seeming more and more like an interim flagship. The E3D already has more RAM and from everything posted Sense 3.0 is a pig and needs all it can get. The Vigor on Verizon is going to have a full 720p display and a 1.5ghz processor. The Holiday on AT&T is going to have a 4.5" qHD display and also 1GB of RAM. By the end of the year the Sensation's going to be forgotten.

hm i gotta check it out.
I've only just recently jumped onto android after owning every iphone, the sensation was a handset I was considering but reviews put me off.
The two things that made me avoid it were the lack of amoled, and the apparent locked bootloader.
I never got round to playing with a sensation as the store had no demo models.
I am happy enough with my galaxy s so far though

yeh the bootloader is locked but u can find already few nice leaks on thems forum(sensation forum on XDA). not saying GO FOR IT but honestly at its price range and with its performance better buy SGS2 or stay with SGS1.

How long do you think the galaxy s 2 will stay top end for?
I know technology moves quickly but I just hope I made the right decision and there's not a better phone coming out next month or something....

If I had to guess, I'd say either a SGS2.5 or SGS3 will be out before the holidays. The Nexus 3/Prime is supposed to be out in October and the advances I mentioned above in the two HTC phones will probably prompt Samsung to release something higher end. Think about this though. They just updated and are continuing to sell a version of the SGS1 and it's been out for over a year. So the SGS2 may not be state-of-the-art by Christmas but it should still very much be current.
honestly i believe u can use SGS2 for about an year - untill another companies will reach its level. and SGS2 will last on the top untill SGS3 will be released. and the date inst confirmed yet. but SGS1 is still a good phone. if u dont have enough money or dont wanna waste it just stay where u ar and wait for bargain to upgrade.

Thanks.
That's one thing I find overwhelming coming from apple phones, android has so many handsets running so many different versions of the operating system.
With an apple handset you're pretty much fine for a year, though you have to put up with the restrictive nature of ios.
Ah well either way I'm going to try and keep hold of this handset for 12 months, unless something really tempts me to "upgrade"

I appreciate the OP's comments as I have been wondering how the HTC sensation fares compared to the SGS2. I also find it funny that the HTC battery seems to be a little worse than SGS2 especially given the complaints by some SGS2 users about battery life. I can watch about 5 hours of video on mine no problem.

I have the Sensation as well and the battery life on it is pretty bad. On the SGS2 with moderate to heavy use I get about 16-18 hours. WIth the Sensation it's a miracle if I get 10. There are two things about the Sensation that are better than the SGS2 and only one is of any practical significance. The first is the HTC keyboard. The auto-correct function on the HTC device is excellent and is far better than Samsung's stock keyboard. The other is weather. No one comes close to what HTC has done with their weather UI. It's nice eye candy but that's about it.

I wouldnt know what to feel if something new and better comes out before the end of the year, If they are going nvidia quadcore (Kal-El) then its highly possible they are gonna out a 720P screen as its been in production already.. I wonder if they improved anything aside from bumping the res.
The SGS1 was the fastest phone for almost a year when it got released. NOTHING from the competition could compare when it came down to pure specs last year.
The Desire HD and iPhone 4 were the closest competition, and the SGS1 always won out in benchmarks and in IRL usage.
I would say that the SGS2 will probably not be trumped until early next year. The Nexus Prime will probably have similar innards as the SGS2

iRL usage there are some few aspects the the Iphone4 is faster but other usage scenarios the S1 was faster and was even far more functional than the Iphone4.
Im pretty sure Iphone5 will be targeted to compete with the S2, Infact I even wish the Iphone5 would be better + faster in the majority of tests so that Samsung and Google can hurry up ang release the S3 and ICS.

I would have to agree 100% the SGSII is hands down the best phone on the market right now. And even more so with a few tweaks the speed and performance along with excellent battery life will make it #1 for a long time.
My friend just got it. It's really very light in terms of weight. Nice!
S2
Yes it is really nice. Thin and very light. It holds better in my opinion than even the Galaxy S (1). It was the European version, couldn't get it unlocked to use on US so saw no real service on it but the menu style and camera functions are similar but those small enhancements always intrigue me.
i love my Sammy GSII
I waited patiently for the dual core handsets to come out, then hesitated many times over which one to buy. Finally got my SGS2 this week and rooted next day! I must say, Terga 2 games blew my mind, streaming FLV movies on the go is finally a possibility, Touchwiz makes more sense than 'sense' and finally the color depth of the screen is second to none.
Amazing phone, i doubt i'll need to upgrade for the next 12 months
What a phone it is , I just love my GSII. Awesome work has been done by Samsung.
SGII is my dream) the q is, buy or not to buy? I think to buy)
I have it 2 weeks ago, it's great!
Agree beste phone ever
i've had mine since the uk launch day and i haven't felt any regret about paying premium on the unbranded unit one bit.
I would have preferred to purchased the 32GB version but i guess i can just upgrade to nexus prime when it get released

Care to explain? Based on my experience, GS2 was a huge improvement from GS1
That is if the US even gets the S 2 and if they ever release a CDMA version. With the way its looking and Apple being a bunch of spineless uninnovative ******* we may never see the phone.
There's been rumours that there will also be an SGS2 with hardware keyboard. As hardware keyboard-zealot... I can't wait for that one. Let's hope it won't stay a rumour though.
Its a good phone but i dont understand all the praises it gets^^ Its all plastic, it overheats, it has problems with some 3d games and the screen just looks aweful in my opinion.
Maybe im just used to LCD screens but it comes down to this for me: Advantage of the sgs2 display: Black is black. Disadvantage: All other colors are way off. White is more like light blue and no comment about the green in the android market for example.
Speaker sucks too. And dualcore is just for the lulz atm. Nothing out there that is really using it as far as i know. But it takes alot of juice. That and bad software results in 1-2 days of battery life from what i've heard in different forums.
I dont see any reason why this phone should be better than my DHD which has the same screen size also a pretty bad speaker and 1-2 days of battery life. But i prefer SLCD and aluminium case, and the software/custom roms are way more advanced.
I'll wait for the next generation Ice Cream Sandwich phones from htc or samsung. Also interesting to see what will come out of Motorola now that google bought it!
Note: I dont want to bash the SGS2, its a good phone. But i dont see it being way better than everything else. Just at least take one look at the phone before you buy it to check if the display is for you and be prepared for some software issues (touchwiz + 3d games).
i've tried it...
hello every one, I've got a SGS 1 with CM7.
It works great, even 7.1.0 is in RC....
I've used for about 20 minutes SGS 2 of a friends of mine and I've seen with my eyes the improvment that Samsung Samsung have done.
If before we compare SGS 1 with the iphone 4, the SGS 2 is clearly better than iP4.
no doubt about it.
8M camera, display AMOLED so much improved, dual core....
Hope 4 a CM7 stable for both SGS 1 and 2

This is all I needed to read to know that you have no idea what you're talking about. 1-2 days?? Are you kidding me?? It's an Android, not a Blackberry. The DHD was maligned in every review because of poor battery life, and that poor battery life was 6-14 hours.
