Swype 1.64? - EVO 4G General

My friend has it on his doid x when he did the ota update to 2.2 last night. Is there a way too get it on our evo?
CM / Snap Powered

Probably there is but currently they are selling and licensing it in such a way that distributing it elsewhere is considered "warez". I'm sure you can find it if you look but we can't post that stuff here even if it is just so you can evaluate it or whatever. Pretty sure Verizon paid them for the license to use it so distributing it here would break the rules.

Oh I C...my bad.
CM / Snap Powered

rule #1: we do not talk about swype club
rule#2: eh, ...you get it

The newest version from the beta is 2.4.44 so 1.64 is actually kind of outdated.

Google's new version of Froyo for the Nexus One

I am not sure if this is of value or if any of you are not already aware, but decided to post this in case it is of any worth to any of you who are working on developing Froyo Rom to work on a Sprint HTC Hero.

We still need source code to get Mic and other things working.
Under their own laws (found in Settings>About Phone>Legal Information), when Google officially releases Froyo for ANY device (Nexus, Droid, G1) they must release the source code. So, once they release a device version of Froyo, they must release Froyo on source.android.com.

Google is becoming very HTC-y about source. Give it a week or 2. FroYo has been out for N1 for a couple of weeks now. This is an updated FroYo.
Still waiting on the source tree to drop sadly.

Froyo isn't out yet. Google has not released it yet. There were some review units that Google sent Froyo to for review purposes only, but it has not been released to the public. The only reason the public has it is because of these leaks.
I expect Google to have it up as soon as it publicly drops. Now HTC on the other hand...

This is incorrect. The Linux Kernel source is licensed under the GPL which means when you release something that uses it you must release any modifications you made to it. Android however is not licensed under such a license. It is under the Apache license which means any changes that Google, HTC, Cyanogen or any other entity makes to it do not have to be released. Now, Google changing the kernel source, yes that does mean they need to release that. But just that. They will release it all in time though. Should be this week or next week I would assume.

I have no doubt the Evo will get it first. But we still have devs on the board.
Darch has already commited to building an AOSP FrpYp, and there is enough documentation laying around here for anyone with some Linux-Fu to be able to take out our Hero Kernel and drop it into any system dump or boot image and at least make it bootable. Not necessarily 100% functional, but bootable.
I have no doubt that within a few days of Google dropping FroYo source that we have a functional version.
Also, I at this point in time don't care about HTC Sense UI. AOSP is awesome with ADW lancuher. That thing only keeps getting better. He has a build with gesture controls built in coming soon.
The ONLY thing I don't like about AOSP is Exchange emails with more than 1 attachment won't show me the email text...but I think this is just a user error.
For now I have been forwarding the email to my Gmail address to read it.

Yes there is. Start developing. Don't whine that someone else isn't doing the work anymore. Step up to the plate and do the work. I'm sick of people whining about developers moving to different phones and leaving users behind. They're not "leaving users behind", they're moving forward and they owe you nothing. This isn't the Marines. This is technology and business.
Complaining about them upgrading and not working on the ROM for your phone is like complaining that they didn't write ROMs for the G1 or Nexus 1. Should they be forced to buy those phones to develop on? Absolutely not.
Besides those points, your post still contains some ignorance. Damage stated he's not giving up development for the Hero, he's busy getting married this week. TrevE said he's backing away from the Evo for a bit to focus on the Hero. Darch is definitely still around, despite people trying to get him to move to the Evo. Where's the problem?
There's no point in arguing with both of you.for some reason when someone says the word dev you guys start creaming your pants and when the least bit of negative is said you guys go to McDonald's and order a whamburger and French cries. It's all speculation. Google tends to stay pretty tight until they have a press conference or release party. Look at FroYo - it was a total surprise to wake up and find that they where dropping source into the tree.
The blog-o-sphere refers to Gingerbread as 3.0. I believe that Google has round-about-ly confirmed that the name is in fact "GingerBread", but we won't have a version number till they drop source in the tree again around November. Judging from the speculated improvements, it should be a major version number change.

My guess is 2.3 is correct, jumping a full revision number such as to 3.0 would generally indicate a partial or complete rewrite of the core code.

3.0 is what the version info says - given its just a screen shot and leaks are hardly ever trust worthy, but i like drama.
I'm still going with 3.0 and not 2.3....
I actually kinda wish that Google would slow down a little. I'm scared to buy a new phone if it's going to be outdated in three months when Google puts out something new. I guess that's why we donate to our developers!

Google has said that they will be slowing down after GingerBread(regardless of the version number). My assumption is they did not expect such rapid growth of the platform and users need a fully functional OS to make it worth buying into - A phone any more is not a quick purchase, there is a lot of investment in hardware and software. Where as with feature phones they where cheap(in comparison) and easily replaceable.
From what I remember seeing, the next update is to have some big changes making it most likely 3.0. All speculation though.
Personally I'm happy android has been updating quick. Keeps the phones newer fresher feeling longer and fixes problems quicker. I came from winmo and never got fixes and the roms bored me. Plus I really hated 6.5.
I'm holding out until December to upgrade and debate on new phone or used evo. I've been out of contract for 9 months now.

CM 6.1 Progress Will Be Quicker Now Too!

According to a head moderator at the CM forums (Source: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/8302-the-state-of-the-galaxy/page__view__findpost__p__85578, Team Douche has the same leak that Whiskey received. That means, CyanogenMod 6.1 progress will be accelerated and maybe we will get some Cyanfryoyo soon
TL;DR Version:
"As of last night teamwhiskey and teamdouche both got access to a 100% working tmo vibrant froyo leak. Expect much quicker progress now."
Yeah dont forget about Eugene373 also got it too. Im pretty sure it was Sombionix and Eugene373 who were the first ones to receive it. Just thought i include Eugene373 into your list because it seems like you forgot him.
I hope the stock rom is available soon. It certainly gives a little credence to the November 11th rumor if a official T-Mobile version leaked out.
At this point who cares about cm6? We got froyo thanks to eugene and sombionix. The way I see it the only reason were getting cm is because of them.

I didn't forget Eugene. I was just quoting what the CM forum moderator said. I wasn't sure if Eugene had that same leak or if he used some magic to get his GPS working. But, for the sake of giving Eugene some well deserved love:
CM has the same leak that Bionix and Eugene have

Not yet, Eugene (or Bionix?) said they would be able to soon but not right away. Apparently, one of the previsions of the leak was that they can only take what was broken on their own roms (GPS).

lol sorry I think that is so lame. leaks have provisions? Every high end android phone has 2.2, but galaxy S owners in the US don't, yet. I mean this isn't the secret code to WMD's....its Froyo, what kind of person puts provisions on the leak they provide?
I just find it odd, if the devs new they were getting Froyo last night, why even care or entertain ebaitr8? Unless ebaitr8 really did provide the system dumb.

According to a post from Som (I believe, may have been Viral) on the TW forums, the agreement from their source was that his name stay out of it. I believe it's likely due to him being worried about his job, as he's probably a T-Mo employee. If that's the case then I can understand him wanting it to stay anonymous.

..and slurping CM? I slurp no man. If I wanted to I'd just buy a Nexus S or just get some of my developers to port it for me - but having someone like CM (and the other developers) is just a bit more convenient and non-stupid.

oh no I owned an iphone for 2 years! Say you what you will but there's something to be said about a phone that doesn't need a firmware update every month or to be plugged in every 12 hours......
Don't get me wrong I love my Evo, I just wish it was as trusty as every other phone I've ever owned. In fact, I would go as far to say that technically the Evo is the most unreliable phone I've ever had. There's no way I'd turn my parents loose with one. It's the price you pay for technology though. It's strange to realize that the Evo is more powerful than my eeePC, runs longer on battery, and fits in my pocket. What an age we live in.
However, I had to cook my own rom just to get this thing "usable" in my book. With the iPhone it was just jailbreak and go....

Is there some way to get the version of Swype from the new update and install it as a stand alone? I am a beta tester but would like a released version.

I'm guessing like any update Sprint/HTC roll out, there are going to be delays in certain parts. I'm sure it will be hitting devices sooner than later. Sprint/HTC are probably getting their servers up to par for a mass of people trying to get their phones updated.
To the mods, If I posted in the wrong location please move. Thanks
On a side note:
Please do not update if you are rooted or are going to root. Like the recent updates in the past, this may get rid of the root exploit.
Dude we been on this all day. Its ok though.

If this is a repost, I apologize. I did not know there was a thread on this already. I was merely trying to be informative.

"us non-xda people" says the guy with the 2 year old account and almost 500 posts....
Actually appreciate this was curious what exactly was updated.
While we knew about and already downloaded the new version, we didn't know the exact changelog.

much more than that in the dev section a dev check it out and LOTS LOTS was changed updated
This update is most likely the precursor to Gingerbread kinda like what they did right before froyo was released put everyone on the same level with all the fixes then upgrade them all at the same time no haveing to wait for differnt builds due to partition issues of course since we're rooted it doesn't matter to us really

Oh, you mean NOW there is?
NOW?
You mean NOW?
How about when I visited the forum when the first OTA thread [with just the zip] was released?
Oh, there wasn't.
How about when I LEFT MY HOUSE, oh no!, and then came on later [via mobile] and saw only this thread with the changelog because I'm not going to spend 45 minutes combing each forum?
So you're right, NOW there are tons of threads on it.
go **** yourself

I really would like to understand why people get so pissed off over the internet. Especially when it is a simple click that changes pages.

Swype vs Voice
One of the posts following the Engadget story reported that you lose voice input when you use the swype that comes with the Sprint update. Is this true?
It makes no sense because the latest version of the Swype beta has the mic button, and voice input available.
If the voice input, mic button is not there in the version of Swype that comes with the Sprint update, it may be due to Sprint specifications. What would the point of that be.
Thank you for your time.
Ok flame away but where is the update? I dont see it in any links or my phone says there is no update available.
