just a view about Eris Leak!

Hi Xda .. hope every one is fine enjoying their PRIVATE lives!
I was thinking that the eris leak is a setup plan by htc they gave the leak so that EXPERT developers here at xda could tweak the update make it awesome do all the work and then htc download it from here and modify a little with branding and themes and announce it officially!

I doubt they are using it for the devs here to finish
They are probably using it for us to "beta test"
Or it could be a real leak with nothing to do with htc.

Lol.. if that were to be true.. HTC would have leaked it when 2.1 was released..

I LOL'd because it's believable, though I doubt actually true.
Imagine if the official update came out rooted with a2sd enabled and powered by the teknologist kernel!

for that to happen they'd need to release the kernel sources first...
@topic: if it was true, it wouldn't change anything... we can not keep htc from spying here... but it would be really funny if someone found a prove that they used stuff from here

I wasn't being serious...

It would be quite funny if they did. I'm sure they will keep an eye over here, as they seem to patch any root exploits we use, then we beat them, then they patch and so on... or maybe they just subscribe to the Linux kernel security announcement group
Kernel sources would be nice, as would an official release so we can get Google earth working and get rid of the silly cdma only issues that persist. I wonder if the original leaker could get us a gsm image?

How old are you guys? Sometimes this Forum really feels like elementary school.
HTC's devs are way more capable than any of the devs here. Why? Because they have the ****ing drivers, sources, device details. They built their OS. Sometimes we can't even get basic features working here, or get constant FCs. Sorry to break it to you, but HTC doesn't care about this Forum.
I doubt it but if at all, they might have leaked it to get early feedback. Maybe that's why we don't see the ugly Espresso version with the bubbles and ****. They might actually release some screenshots or test versions on purpose to test the waters.

Not to get OT, but getting an EVO won't help in getting the source released by HTC. Not too much he could do until then.

well considering avalaunch has made a 2.2 (froyo) aosp build for evo without the source (although camera still doesn't work) i think you could still make something
that works specially since it would still be 2.1 and the camera and libs all work on 2.1 already

I believe his is a port though, not a true AOSP as a base. I could be wrong, but you would need the source in order to do that.

Well maybe they will be a little closer to releasing the source by the time we get an evo in darch's hands.
Plus if we go ahead and hook him up he can start getting familiar with it.
Like I said I got $20 on it.
I'll start by making a list of commitments to donate in the OP

I don't want to spoil your party. but even if Darch had an evo, he would still need the kernel source for the 2.6.32 kernel, along with the vendor files to compile an Stock aosp rom. last i checked the official source for the .29 kernel hasn't been released, and when you look at htc's history of releasing kernel's it will be getting close to this time next year when the .32 kernel is officially released. but hey i'm hoping for a leak

You're not spoiling my party.
I know it couldn't be done over night, and getting an aosp build on the evo is only half the reason for the party.
The other half is how much work he put in for us hero guys without asking for donations, or even posting a link to a way to donate to him.
He's a cool dude, he's brilliant, he wants an evo and can't afford it out of pocket atm, and having him here would be very cool indeed.
On that note, if anyone has an extra upgrade they would be willing to part with that would SERIOUSLY bridge the gap. My Dad has several lines on his account for his business and typically has one or 2 upgrades available but he just used all of them last week

20 here, He has made the Hero what it should have been from Day 1. I personally will not be getting an EVO until there is a AOSP rom for it. I wish the manufacturers would just leave it along. I also dont really care if it has 4g or not since from what I hear thats all on HTC CRAP code anyways

Not to be an ass, but If you don't see it here chances are it's not available yet. I believe XDA to be the central hub of information (even if the news originates somewhere else). If there is news it won't be hidden on the Development page.
Look in the forums of the other Galaxy S variants to see the status of Froyo on this Samsung line of devices. I believe it will be a little while before one is released for a CDMA version.

This is my first smartphone, so instead of this thread just dropping to the bottom, maybe myself and others could learn something.
What exactly needs to be done with Froyo (or any ROM) before it can be adapted to a particular phone, in this case, the fascinate?
I suppose keeping it in relative lay-speak would be nice as well.

Having samsung release a 2.2 ROM for the US Galaxy S phones would be a start.
The euro variants have a different button layout among other things that makes life harder for our development.

We need samsung to release the 2.2 update, and that will give you 2.2
As far as custom roms / CyanogenMod 6 on the fascinate, we will need the 2.6.32 kernel source code to drop (and pray that Samsung will release the right source when they release that code) and then a bit of developing.

you really think there will even be a 2.2? Personally, I think it would be updated straight to Gingerbread

There's a post from kaos on the kaos rom for eris forms stating that he had 2.2 running on his fascinate before it bricked, but that he MIGHT be developing a rom for the fascinate.
I'll see if I can track down the post.

We'll be so lucky if Kaos gets one working with the Fascinate, I had an Eris prior to the Fascinate and I was talking to him about developing for it, looks like he found someone to help him out.
His ROM > all others once they start rolling out.

Coming from an eris I would love to have punk kaos rom on my fascinate.

I'm coming from an eris too, and had kaos on mine, and about creamed myself after reading that, hahaha.....Even if kaos came out with a 2.1, id be all set.

LOL, same here. I got a late start with KaosFroyo, coming in at V30, after I discovered that one-touch root was finally available for the Eris. I had one month of the best Android experience possible on an Eris before I ordered up my new Fascinate. I wish I had the cash to buy a Fascinate for punk kaos, so he could start creating what could only become the best Fascinate ROM ever!
EDIT: Just saw the post where he said he's already working on one. Awesome!!! I'll DEFINITELY be donating to his coffee fund once he starts pumping out a ROM for this bad boy. Hmm, what will he name it though? I vote for Kaoscinate!

Yes, its true. I've been working on a 2.2 rom for the Fascinate. I got it to boot but was in the very early stages of dev when my phone let out a puff of smoke and died.
I got the phone through a sponsor, and have returned the phone to them and they're trying to get me another one. Hopefully they will soon and I can keep on truckin

That is a respectable position, but considering my gf is rocking out my old eris running v.34 I wouldn't consider it a waste if you couldn't get anything cooking for the fascinate.

Just sent over some coffee cash for all the hard work on KaosFroyo, since I never got around to actually donating before. And also, I'm not done with it yet, as I'm loading up V35-1 on my deactivated Eris to let a co-worker with a live Eris play with. She's unhappy with 2.1, so she might want me to give her phone the same treatment, since she's stuck in a 2-year contract.
Anyway, looking forward to you getting a replacement Fascinate. Did it literally start smoking before it died? Dang, I knew these phones were hot, but that's just a bit over the top.

The Mytouch Slide isnt dead!

Many people think it is dead and there are no devs working on it anymore, but this isnt true. There are still multiple devs with this phone, yes some are working on other phones but look at this device, it has everything. We already have Froyo, and really we need the source to get the bluetooth working so now were only waiting for HTC to release the source. You could be on another device that is outdated or even unsupported anymore.
So be patient, well be getting S-Off and Official Froyo soon

I'm with you. Even Cyanogen takes care of Slide.

anyone remember the "froyo coming soon" in june? i don't we're going to get official froyo at all. Look at most roms, "updated 10/08!!!!" thats more than a month that it was updated, the development for this phone is dead.

Development isn't dead it's just slowed. There are new phones to work with. It's more fun to dev on a phone that's new and to an extent unknown than one that's pretty much given up all its secrets.

i just feel like g2 just got permanent root yet if you see their forum they have had many different updates, for many different types of roms, from many devs and besides team douche the only updates we get are people porting other roms....ever month or two. i would love to see this forum as lively as others, but at this point its not so.

I'm not a developer, but I do know that this would be an extremely difficult task due to different screen resolutions. Just wait for official TMO Slide 2.2 and we'll have some great roms no doubt about that.

I knew that resolution may be challenge, but If that issue is beaten then it'd bring more options, this phone would reach its top development. I know its difficult, but it seems that we won't even gonna get Froyo from t-mobile, but devs made it possible!

We are. T Mobile has confirmed it on many occasions. If froyo is on the myTouch 3G...we will 100% get it on the Slide.

By the time we get official Froyo, there will be Gingerbread already for some devices I think. I wish they skipped Froyo to release Gingerbread update instead.

From HTC and Tmo's standpoint, updating these phones is gotta be the last thing on there minds.
Face it updating these phones doesn't make them any money.
Frankly they'd both be happier if you just bought another phone.
Manufacturers and Telco's are in the business of selling phones and cellular service.
Not making FREE updates.
I realize if we had official froyo from Tmo and the bluze source that would add additional functionality to our phones,
but, personally I don't even care.
What I mean is that I'm satisfied with what team douche and the bunch, as well as other devs are doing and have done for our phone.
I put more faith in what they will come up with than waiting on anything from HTC and Tmo.

You people(not all) are impatient, I had a cliq and they promised us 2.1 update last december, you when cliq users got it? Acouple weeks ago! Ya ok it maybe a little while but if you had any consideration of what their doing, youd be a little more patient. They have port the whole rom to 2.2, some may say that isnt so hard you go and try and port a app or something from 2.1 to 2.2, Goodluck. Also I talked to Cheifz and he said S-Off is done for the Slide and AlphaRev is waiting to finish S-Off for another device so they can release both at the sametime.

I have found that sprint EPIC 4G had got the Gingerbread,but we only get froyo.

LOL, we aren't even supposed to have froyo. Gingerbread (unless IMNUTS pulls another rabbit out of his hat) won't happen, that I can see. According to another post, they are working on a symbian rom... that should be interesting.

If we all took up a colkection and paid a dev (or sammy employee for sum source haha) then we might get sump cool... but even then probably not GB....not till they release it for fascinate....but then again I dont know this jus my humble opinion....but im serious about donating for dev help!

I'm a developer (not for android though) and I can tell you it would be one hell of an undertaking. Best case is to wait, Samsung did announce GB for Galaxy S devices, however none of the US devices have gotten it yet.
And fascinate ROMs don't work all that well for us unfortunately
