3G problems on T-mobile US - XPERIA X10 General

Anyone using a X10 with T-Mobile US having problems with their 3G? I'm not getting any 3G since last night. I've tried messing with all the mobile networks settings but I'm still not getting anything even tho its still registered on T-Mobile, and when I go to Status it says Disconnected under Mobile Network State. I just hope its T-Mobile being stupid because I was receiving text messages late yesterday.

where are you located?

No problems in Boston, MA.

Not much help for you biit i was the same for 3 days in Uk with orange tried re creating APN's etc and thought phone was nacked but turned out to be national problem with their network

I'm in Brooklyn, NY. I'm gonna wait until the end of the day before calling them.

lmfaooooooo ok forget about this thread because I just learned that my phone was turned off because of a bill and this the first time this has ever happened to me in my life so I was just kinda confused. And I didn't notice because I didn't call or text anyone since it was so early lol smh

Why Cant I Get Edge Data? (Cingular)

Over the last few weeks Ive noticed that I can no longer get Edge data on my 8125. It seemingly happened overnight. Ive been in Florida and Chicago and both coverage maps show Edge as being available and Ive used it in the past. Therefore, Im thinking its some type of internal issue with my device. I can only receive GPRS. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Please help.

I have had loss of Data entirely with some of the new radio/wm6 combos
it is usually solved by soft reset.
what GSM version do you have 2.19, 2.25, 2.47, 2.61, something else?
I have had dataproblems with 2.47 and 2.61 but then again i got wm6 at the same time so it could be that.
Post the rom version you are using also.
Im using ROM version 2.25.11.1 WWE. Not sure what GSM version. How can I tell?

SPL x.xxx
GSM x.xxx
OS x.xxx
Just so you know the GSM = Rodio version
The thing i have noticed is that things get messed up on WM phones just like they do on windows computers. Flashing a phone can make problems go away. I am addicted to flashing my phones. recently I have been doing it at least once a day. If you have wireless active sync and a big storage card flashing your phone doesn't slow you down a bit.
I guess what I am saying is try reflashing your phone, or changing the radio only or a simple hard reset, then see if you get your edge back.
I lost my Edge data too
Around the first of February, my phone quit receiving edge data in my home town. icould receive it fine in other areas, but it just went away at home.
four calls to cingular all said the same thing. "We don't offer edge in your area". This despite the fact that I've been using it and paying $45 per month for the past 5 months.
I think I must have been getting a signal from a third party and that party no longer plays nice with ATT.

How can you tell the difference aside from the speed of it. If you have the reghack to make the "E" icon appear does it change to "G" when you have no EDGE?
I don't think I have ever not gotten EDGE anywhere I have been. I am just kind of curious how you know that you aren't getting it.
I'm curious too
My phone always showed an "E" for edge data just about everywhere I went (I live in SE Kansas). Around the first of February, the "E" changed to a "G" and the data rate slowed to the range called "unusable". I bought the "unlimited" data package and was using the phone to stream xm radio for about 30 minutes a day.
After the "E" went away where I live, I took the phone to Kansas City and the "E" returned, so I don't think the phone was having problems. According the Cingular's service maps, my town is in their "extended" area, meaning I'm probably roaming on someone elses tower (probably Alltel). I noticed that Sprint and Alltell recently inked a deal to share their towers and I notice that both Sprint and Alltell offer their 70k bandwidth data in my area. My guess is Cingular decided I was being a little too "unlimited" so the gave me the axe. I called and cancelled the $40 per month charge.
I've talked to people in Rural SE Kansas who have been called by Cingular and told they are being dropped as a customer because they are making a high percentage of their calls from towers that aren't owned by Cingular.
I've made a big investment in phones with Cingular and will stay on as a customer. My hope is that they'll roll out the data carpet here again soon. If not, I'll switch to Sprint or Alltel....I just hate that little antenna though.
alltel and Cingular
Say what. Altell and Sprint run off of a diffrent network technologies than GSM. I'm sure this might have been do to some roaming agreements expiring. I know that some T-mobile roaming agreements have expired with Cingular and they probably arn't going to renew them. You were probably roaming on another providers network but I can guarantee that it wasn't sprint, verizon or alltell they are not gsm

An interesting topic, I knew that the formentioned companies were not GSM, however I just got thinking about roaming and coverage with GSM. Does anyone have definative list of what GSM companies have roaming agreements with what other companies and how that works?
I use a company called UNICEL they have the lock down in my area, Vermont, being that vermont and other areas that UNICEL covers are heavily trafficed by tourists that use Cingular or T-Mobile I know that UNICEL has gotten good roaming agreements with them. In fact I have even gotten access credits when my data didn't work on Long Island, NY for an afternoon (I thought that was pretty cool that UNICEL gave me money back on my nation wide data when I was on Cingular's network)
Anyway I wonder if little old UNICEL has such nice arangements in place with other little providers. Perhaps I try to get that info and start a thread about it so others can give info about there networks. It could be a pretty good or at least interesting network.
zanda61 the other thing I find interesting is that your "home area" is not in the Cingular network, I have known quite a few people that have been dropped for doing this. How are you able to maintain your plan? Do you frenquent an area that has Cingular coverage and make calls there?
Phone Home
When I signed up over the telephone, the sales rep said nothing about me not being in their "home" area. I simply made the assumption that they wanted the business so they were offering phones nationwide. We have a family plan with rollover and rarely use our monthly allotment of minutes. Also, my daughter lives in KC so she makes all of her calls on the home network.
We've been customers for about 4 years now and they've never said a word about our usage habits.
I know Sprint and Alltel use cdma phones, but they are the only other carriers in this area. I don't know that much about the radios other than they use a different frequency. But don't they both offer phones with radios that will work at different frequencies?
By the way, thanks for writing back. I hope I haven't hijacked this thread but this stuff is fascinating to me.

T-Mobile internet just stopped working on my N1.

I am chatting with T-Mobile customer service now, we'll see what they say but as of now if I go online a T-Mo page pops up and this is what I get:
"To connect to the web with the device you are using, you will need a webConnect data plan"
Did anyone have anything like this happen to them?
same problem here. i called they had no idea plan looked fine and told me i would need to call htc. weird thing is i have a nokia n900 that is fine i swapped the sims and same message on the nexus but the n900 still works.
Same here, I hope they fix it soon. Worked fine last night.
Did it just start for you? I didn't notice until early this morning. This might be happening all over. The t_mobile said my network needed to be updated. Had me remove the battery and still nothing. She then said it's outta her hands and gave me a Google number.
I am not calling yet. Still waiting to see what happens. Thing is, I can go to google and search -- results come up. So the web is working, its just like t-Mo restricts it when trying to go any further.
The lady said they might have me swap out the phone. But my phone is perfect - no dust, or anything like that, so I will do what it takes to not do that.
I am guessing this rep doesn't know what's going on. At least I hope.
EDIT: I am from the Philadelphia area BTW.
Double Failure in West Texas, best I can say it it was around 2:30am Mountain. TWO Nexus (Nexi?) crapped at the same time, wifi connection still worked.. just got off the phone with T-Mobile and they tried to pass me off to Google and I dug in heels and got a supervisor... and he said they had a LOT of calls coming in for the same thing. Got them to file a trouble ticket. Gotta be something in their network, was SHOWING a solid 4 bars of 3G AND/OR EDGE (I swapped them by hand) and nutting, nada.. "you need a webconnect data plan"... and they checked our account and it was all set up right.
Sounds like someone farkled something up real good.
Wow so it doesn't seem to be just in my area. I too always get 3-4 bars of 3G. I wonder if this is just a problem for N1's?

I moved the sim card over to one of my old G1's (thank goodness still had battery in it) and things worked just fine.. so yeah, someone ginked the T-Mobile network to.. not recognize the N1 for a data plan? Since it's 'not a T-Mobile device'??? Ohhhhh this is gonna get ugly..
This just popped up on the T-Mobile forums...
"Nexus Webconnectivity Issues: 1/29/10 (starting around 3:30am cst)
There is apparently an issue going on with web connections that started around 3:30am cst today. A phone call to T-Mobile tech support got routed to HTC tech support, and they are well aware of the issue. They say they have been flooded with calls regarding the issue. As of 6:30am, they have no idea what is causing the problem but are looking to the issue. They hope to get the issue resolved as soon as they can identify the problem. If anyone representing T-Mobile can get us more information, it sure would be appreciated. Tech support was rather vague."
Just out of curiosity, is anyones nexus 1 receiving data on T-Mobile right now?
Only via WiFi
webConnect data plan
Same thing just happened to me at about 7:45 am. It was working fine earlier this morning, then suddenly I get the webConnect data plan message and it won't connect over 3G or Edge. I live in Indianapolis, IN.
Wow why now, when I'm ordering mine today. =/
Something tells me that its a scheme of them trying to lock everyone into that awful 500a month 80 dollar plan...
Same Issue in NYC as well!
I have called T-Mobile and HTC. This is without a doubt a TMO problem and the reps have no clue! All they do is switch you over to HTC Tech support, lol! The endless loop until someone figures out whats wrong.
Out of curiosity, are those that are having problems currently enrolled with the G1 data plan? I am still using my older G1 data plan for 24.99 per month and was told I did not have to change my plan.
Also, its not totally out. My VOIP software is working and connecting fine. Seems to be only web browser.

I'm thinking Old Data Plans are the problem!
I am thinking the only N-1s with a problem are G-1 converts that have older "cheaper" data plans. TMO can't force you out of that plan but maybe they tried switching something and forgot to include that! Maybe a stupid idea but it is a feasible one. The newer "android" plans are alot more money!
I'm on the android plan and not working
Maps and G mail also broke.

I am LOVING the wifi calling!

That OTA update came just in the nick of time. I pushed it myself after I read about how to do it and still hadn't received the update. I left for Manila on Friday the 12th and have been loving the wifi calling here!! It has been a life saver in terms of paying for international calling. There is zero lag and the call sounds just as good as if I were on the network in the states. I can't really imagine a use for it while in the country since it still takes minutes, but I guess if you are in an area without TMobile but yet still has a wifi connection with a fast enough speed to carry the call, then it could be useful. I just don't know where that place is... All I can tell you is that it has been working amazingly well in the Philippians and I have been able to make and receive calls without interruption all week. My colleagues who have needed to pack an extra phone with international calling abilities have been absolutely green with envy as I'm still able to do business easily in the office without needing to be on a landline or paying extra to use my cell phone in the hotel. What a great innovation!!! Even texting has worked just as if I were still in the states. Everybody I call and text have had a hard time remembering that I'm out of the country since it is still not totally normal to be receiving calls and texts from the same US number even though I'm abroad.
Anyway, I thought I'd share. I tried it while I was in the states, but didn't know if the clarity or quality of the call was influenced by being near the TMobile network anyway. I can tell you for sure that it is a great thing with no downside. You do need more than just a wifi signal though. If the signal isn't strong enough then the phone won't register to the TMobile network and it won't work. Oddly enough, when it says the signal isn't strong enough to make calls, they still come in just fine. Maybe just a couple bugs to work out, but this has definitely made me glad I went with TMobile and not Sprint when I was shopping for a new Android.
Are you sure you're not still paying for international calling? I thought T-Mo was going to charge you.
As for "getting an international phone", the G2 probably could have been unlocked (barring S-OFF issues) to work with the GSM there just fine.
I just took my G1 to Australia after getting the unlock code from T-Mo, and it worked great there, 3G with an Australian SIM.

I remember someone on this forum confirming that if you use Wi-Fi calling, your phone is treated as though it's roaming in the states, which makes it extremely useful for those who commute internationally, like the OP.
Does wifi calling/texting count as data charge (becouse if it does, I'll be able to text for free anywhere there is wifi)

WiFi Calling feature uses plan minutes and plan txt messages... there are no extra charges unless you go over your limit
I was unaware it used plan minutes. Sounds pointless now unless I have bad signal in the house

Yeah, unless you just don't get a good signal in your house, there isn't much point to the wifi calling since it still uses your plan minutes. From here it works just like I'm in my office at home. I can call and text local numbers without having to dial any other weird country codes or anything. And people at home don't even need to know I'm out of the country since they just call my number and my phone rings just like normal.
Typically I have just used skype to call for free computer to computer since using it to call a phone number costs money. But now I can use the wifi and that is so much better! However, my hotel doesn't allow the phone to register with Tmobile, so some servers are going to put the kabosh on using this type of thing. I'm just wondering if it would work from the plane when I'm flying domestically and have the wifi available to me... FCC regulations prohibit using a phone during flight even if you are connected to wifi, so it doesn't really matter I guess.

The texting still counts as texting and not as a data charge. So it basically just uses whatever you already have on your plan. If you are out of text messages or minutes, then you will get charged for going over just like usual. I've got an unlimited plan for all that, so it isn't something I really keep track of.

I'm sure it could have been, but that is why I'm glad the wifi calling update came when it did. It saved me the trouble of needing to do it. Anytime I've been away from the office where I haven't had a wifi signal to attach to has been times when I don't really want to talk on the phone anyway. Especially here... I really don't want people seeing me with a G2 in my hand when it is a pretty lusted after phone here. Everything is uber cheap here, but I was at a less than legitimate item mall yesterday and they had a G2 in the same case as an iPad. I can get a 32GB ipad for less than a G2 here.

[Q] 3G Problems

Is anyone else experiencing problems with 3G staying connected today in the Philadelphia / South Jersey area?
4G is working and stays connected but my 3G data connection keeps dropping. The 3G icon will disappear from the bar when the connection drops. I have a good signal, or so it seems, and i'm in an area where I typically never have a problem. I am running the latest stock OTA firmware without root on 0003 hardware. I have tried rebooting and updating my profile / PRL.
Any suggestions or feedback would be appreciated...

Sprints network is suckin all over the place for the past month or 2. Youll going to be waiting a very long tome.to use anything that involves data usuage. Your lucky if you get to watch a full you tube vid without getting an error message. Sometimes when i send a pic message it just stays sending for hours. I called and complained...they gave me a $30 credit for bad servide. I also told them even though they issued me a credit and if the issue is not resolved in 2wks i will be cancelling my contract with them and i better not get a cancleation fee for doing it cause it is not my fault. Rep ....actually i think it was a supervisor that said it is a coverage issue im having and blamed it on out towers, wich is bs cause ive called.several times and complained. So either A. they take to long to fix.issues or B. It happens way to often and i cant use my phone for.the reasons i bought it for. I actually dropped the call cause of poor service while on the phone with another rep.
I gave sprint a chance...now its back to verizon. Prices are great on sprint but what good is it if i never have service.

Thats pretty much how im starting to feel at this point. I just keep thinking if im going to switch I need to go ahead and do it while they still have the unlimited data. Trying to see when the Thunderbolt is going to drop.. I see a lot of people saying Feb some time.
Im lucky that I live in KC where the sprint campus is. Our service is always running great. Except the building I work in sucks for signal. Walk outside and I go from no bars to full bars.

Anyone feel like reporting this issue to.engadget? Feels.like.maybe that is the only way we will get some real answers on wtf is going on.
I'm northwest of Philly, Gwynedd to be more precise. I just just got .26 Mbps down and .48 Mbps up. I think that is pretty sucky and I have to tether my iPad all day to that speed.
Im in philly (west) & Im ok. 4g is a lil slower than i originally experienced, 3g is just ok. Either way it has been a slight "slow down" since i first got my phone. I kinda have just been tolerating it....
I agree with philly. When I first got my evo I was amazed at the speed of everything. Especially 4g. When ur 4g speed tests start to match your t-mobile buddies 3g speed test there is a problem. It seems to have dropped quality over the last month here in Austin tx as well. Hopefully Feb 7th is good news. I just upgraded two of my lines with two year sa.

Terrible signal when at home

We just switched from Verizon to Sprint. I got the Evo but I do not get a signal in my house. I am constantly roaming or have 1-2 bars. I have missed calls and just get voicemail hours later. Downloads and internet speed are incredibly slow. Could this be Evo related? My dad has Sprint and a Blackberry 8530 and has had never had an issue. I replaced the Evo once because I could not figure out what was going on, the rep to me to just replace it which I did. So both Evo's have done the same thing. I think I am going to try something else because I am missing calls, text arent sending. I just was wondering if it could be phone specific or if there was anything I could do because I really like the Evo.
sprints having major tower issues nation wide
You could also call customer service and complain. They'll send you an airave for free which is a microcell (like a mini cellphone tower). Most smart phones get less signal than feature phones or blackberries... I also second the sprint having nationwide issues ATM

Sprints nationwide problem... that why I keep getting "error code 67, data call failure" constantly over the past 2 days?
And second the airwave, they sent me one and it works great.
yeah i keep getting an sms sending error majority of the time at my home, i am thinking i might call and get this airwave thing, and maybe it will help with my signal!
I have the same issues at home, along with my wife's Blackberry. Might have to make a call to Sprint. I am in the Detroit area.

It maybe the house it self that is creating the problem. In my house NO carriers gets more then one bar if that or is roaming. I step onto the porch and all is good with 4 or more bar.

Keep in mind they were fully aware of an outage in my zipcode since Feb. 8th.
Will they send me an airwave if I have a rooted phone?
Evo 4G
Cyanogenmod 7
They wont know.

I believe its the house. Like I said my dads blackberry is fine. They switched my Evo out for an Epic and same problem. The peoples plan on I'm on left Verizon and I had T-Mobile before that so I am just going to go with T-Mobile or AT&T no contract. I have had both of them before in my house and no problem. You guys had a lot of good info. Thanks. We cant do the airwave because we do not have internet at home.
Same issue in my house. Called and got the Airave, and that had it's own issues so I just sent it back. Airave would cause me to send 100's of the same text to people, and also receive multiples of the same text. Had to reboot it more than twice a day and it still acted up. I'm guessing my recent signal loss is a tower issue, but as usual Sprint can't tell and knows nothing about it...
