Is this something we can bring back into the original desire?
Also, anyone concerned about the 800mhz vs the 1ghz on the desire?

Holy crap. It's seriously like 3-4 seconds.
I think the 800MHz CPU is gonna be as effecyive as a 1GHz one tbh. Remember the Moto Milestone (or Droid, depending)? Had a 550MHz CPU and was still stupidly fast. It even holds it's own in the current world of mobiles
EDIT:
Yeah, much newer Qualcomm CPU

Is it dual core as well? Or simply a 45nm die shrink of the existing architecture?

Ye me also thinks it's all about drivers and implementation, offloading more onto GPU. When drivers suck, performance sucks too, jerky scrolling and so on... but the youtube videos suggest it's insanely smooth
Nope no dualcore.
I suspect it's just underclocked to favor batterylife.

Apparently according to GSMarena i thinnk it waas the benchmarking scores are high even for a 1ghz and it being 800mhz , im guna wait for linpack scores before i buy i new phone (how sad does that sound ) ) its this desire HD or Milestone 2
Yea. It's probably because it's got a new GPU.
Or.. We think there is a new GPU.
This is really impressive. I don't know if it is full boot (or maybe something like hibernation on PC) but it still looks amazing!
Seen the Engadget post a while ago. Wish I had waited a while before upgrading ;(
Helloooooo to my next phone
Im really pleased we have a HTC with qwerty and android finally, was a bit dissapointed that I only saw it available as the G2 yesterday but looked today and theres the press announcement
Wow! Been thinking about ditching my blackberry bold for the torch, but I think I'll get this instead.
Bit of a WM fan but android looks good, still loads of apps/hacking etc.
Oh please god i hope Orange get this (or O2)
Upgrade due in October. Yay!
Qualcomm says 7X30 uses the same Scorpion core, so it's probably underclocked, meaning we could setcpu it back up to 1ghz.

Well for me if it's fast enough no need to overclock it and there must be a reason to be underclocked so don't really mind..im really curious about the new display, don't really see the point to push a phone to it's limits just to see the numbers ) my nexus that i teribly love it just works fine and snapier than ever,i will change it in favor of keyboard but i'm still thinking of keeping it rather than sell it and buy the z...Good phone!
Edit:Anyone have any ideea the multitouch is it better?i realy want a better multitouch since new games are developed for android like "nova, sandstorm etc etc" wich are super cool games but the crappy multitouch on my nexus make them difficult to play.
looks frickin awesome. kind of makes me happy that i couldn't afford an unsubsidized Nexus One xD
It seems to take much longer to boot in another video.
(The Engadget size comparison video, where the Z is booting)

Can they remove battery and then put it back and do the test?
Someone said it boots so quick because it doesn't actually boot - it resumes from hibernation. So removing the battery will have no change I don't think. But a full reboot will still be slow.
So it begs the question - what is the point of this fast resume anyway? Who puts their phones in hibernation...

I think it's you when you power off you actually do hibernate without knowing and then it boots in 2 secs, so it makes sense... In such case, an actual reboot would take longer than shutdown and bootup.
When you install new application and it asks you to reboot, then it might take longer than 2 secs.. if reboot also takes 2 secs then it would be even more impressive!

Coming from the Rokr E6(that came out in 2006) that has a intel PXA270 Rev7(v51) processor, a part from the built Ati graphic chip in the Qualcomm I am very dissapointed. I know the the processors are different but come on, The E6 was clocked at 312MHZ and could be boosted to 530MHZ and 624MHZ and was a single core processor. Today I got real excited because I found this app called nueCPL-ClockSpeed v1.3 thinking finally I will be able to this push Duel core Processor higher than a measley 528mhz.Sadly, come to find out the app limit to push the processor was only 528mhz. I posted a screen shot to show. Does anybody that knows the ins and outs of the Qualcomm MSM2700, know if it can be pushed higher than 528MHZ and would be so kind enough to list the apps that can do it.
After searching this forum for some type of answer, I came to the conclusion that I'm never buying a phone with a qualcomm processor again.

lol, you aren't the first person to express disappointment with qualcomm.
It's not a bad processor, but for our smartphones (which the average XDA member probably requires a lot of CPU power) it is a little weak. I think the average Joe with a stock WinMo phone would be fine with it, but I must admit I am underwhelmed.
I want Snapdragon in my next phone.
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=cpu&id=a7200a&c=qualcomm_msm7200a
on this site you have mostly all smartphones and their processors. and its said that 528Mhz is the Max recomendable speed so i gues its not possible to set it to more then 528MHz. but if you look at devices with these processor X1 was one of the first that used this processor. and even this year there were good phones that used this 2 year old processor technology (HTC Touch Pro 2, HTC HERO). Shure its no 1 or 1.5 GHz Snapdragon but i think its a fine processor. N97 has weaker processor and alot of folks think N97 is better than X1 (I still dont agree with them).

Hi guys, i think most of you have heard the rumor about the X1 CPU is underclocked to 400MHz.
Is it true or not? I found something about the battery status app showing only 400MHz, but someone said that 400MHz is the max frequency battery status can show. Then i found something with the Xperia X2 info tool (dont know the name) showing 400MHz, too.
I downloaded nueClockControl, it shows 528MHz.

The frequency IS 528MHz. Try the JBenchmark estimator if you don't believe nueClockControl:
http://www.jbenchmark.com/jbacepr.jsp Mine shows 515MHz estimated.
Some MSM chips can be overclocked. I have had my TP run at 800Mhz before.
Check THIS out.
Pretty sure it won't work with the X1 but who knows.
dwizzy130
Unfortunalety it's not working with X1 (stock german ROM). The phone freezes instantly when i confirm the Clock change to 768 MHz.
I was a little disappointed of the X1, when i tried to run Super Mario or Mario Kart on SNES Emu (not to mention Metal Slug 2 @ FinalBurn, it's even worse). I thought this would be working better with more than 500Mhz and 256mb RAM. I hate to play games without sound.
I wish it would be as good as a PSP at 222 MHz. Ok, PSP has only 480x272, but also it has only 32mb RAM and only 2mb RAM for GPU.

I feel your pain. Add me to those who are disappointed with the Qualcomm 7200 and will not buy another WinMo phone without a 1 GHz processor. Otherwise, here are some confirmations and other observations:
- The current X1 processor DOES run at 528 MHz as others have mentioned above
- It CAN be overclocked to 768 (or so) with neuOverclock and it's like a sweet dream, but...
- neuOverclock is highly unstable. Most of the time it simply freezes the phone, requiring a reset. For some reason I could only usually get it to work about once a day, no matter how many variations I tried (eg in airplane mode etc etc).
- Unfortunately the genius (seriously) who developed nueOverclock has gone completely silent on his web site and is not still developing - huge bummer in my opinion. I would make a big donation to anyone who could provide a solid overclocking program, and I bet I'm not the only one.

Go for it! Tell him I got $20 in my pocket I'm ready to part with!
If someone could really develop a stable overclocking tool, i would pay for that too.
I'd like to buy a HD2, but without a contract(subscription) it costs over 650€ here in Germany.
Even with subscription it costs 220€ + 35€/Month for 2 years.
I can only dream of 1GHz Snapdragon and 4.3 inch screen
PS: I bought my Xperia for 280€ (with 8GB Micro SD) from Ebay in September.
The previous owner paid 720€ (without subscription) at release ...
PPS: Iphone 3GS 32GB is about 850€ without subscription, thats kind of weird
Damn.. I was rlle excited to see some people as frustrated as me with quads performance and were looking for ways to improve it but the fact nueOverclock just freezes is a letdown also. I hope someone can find the creator or another usefull method!! let the search begin!
Looks like HTC has done it again and delivered a phone that should run crazy fast on paper BUT the actual performance is sub-par compared to other phones:
HTC Nexus One (FAILphone):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvzxZ8tOBcQ
HTC Magic and HTC Liquid Benchmark:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O36LA6EhZg4
I don't think that Neocore benchmarks the entire system, maybe more on the graphics chip. I don't know any specifics on the N1's graphics capabilities, but the 1 ghz snapdragon cpu is a definite boost from its predecessors.
Do you work for Apple?
How does it do on PiBenchmark? That would provide more relevant results with its Snapdragon processor.

doesn't the liquid come with an underclocked snapdragon?
I have a Magic that is rooted and tweaked to all hell and have played with the nexus. There is no doubt that the Google phone out performs any other phone that HTC has released. Ive seen it first hand. Its very fast and can handle so many things going on at the same time it makes my tummy tickle.
You are an idiot. Get your panties out of a bunch because you are pissed at the price and that it has no AT&T 3G. Should we all be pissed that the Droid only works on Verizon? Should we all be pissed that the iPhone only has AT&T 3G? The Nexus One is designed to be on T-Mobile. Sure, it will technically work on any GSM provider, but that isn't what it was intended to do. Google must have some deal with T-Mobile since they offers the most android phones.
And about the performance, that only shows video performance, and we dont know for sure what the N1 and A1 have in terms of a GPU

Actually ... it goes nicely with HTC's track record of under-performing hardware.
We have too many variables that makes comparing these results difficult. The HTC Magic and Liquid are running 1.6, while the Nexus is running 2.1. There are dramatically different levels of overhead on different Android system versions. There could be way more overhead on Android 2.1 than on 1.6. Additionally, you forgot to mention that the Nexus One is running at a resolution 2.5 times that of the HTC Magic.
Just because you're not going to buy the Nexus (because you recently purchased another handset and are trying to justify your purchase, or because it doesn't support your carrier's 3G frequencies, or otherwise) doesn't mean you are obliged to spam these forums with "OMG THIS PHONE IS FAIL"
the resolution used on the n1 is far higher than on the older devices remember

lol @semantics now thats funny man
I have had this phone for three weeks now and one thing its not is SLOW. Its way faster than my 3GS and my Mytouch.
I got 27.4 FPS on my G1.
I'm pretty sure the N1 isn't slower then the G1. That would be stupid.
I don't give a damn, I'm buying this joint day 1!! LOL
my theory:
1. Neocore is designed to work with android 1.6 and Open GL ES 1.1
2. The Liquid A1 has the same processor (albeit underclocked) and the same screen resolution as the N1 so you would expect them to perform similarliy. They dont perfrom the same so you must look at the differences between the phones. The biggest to me is the fact that the Liquid A1 has Android 1.6 and Open GL ES 1.1, the sweet spot for Neocore.
3. The N1 had Android 2.1 and Open GL ES 2.0, specs that are not supported by Neocore. How can Neocore accurately test the N1 when it does not support its specifications? The slowness is not due to poor hardware, rather it is due to old software trying to run on the latest hardware.
I just read this article about Gingerbread and the 1Ghz 512mb requirements. This article says that because the nexus one is clocked at 998mhz and since the rumored HTC vision the first dual core phone with 2 cores at 800mhz, (with a max stated by Qualcomm of 1.2ghz per core) won't qualify for Gingerbread.
How stupid can they possibly be? I really hate it when stupid people write tech articles.
http://www.mobilemag.com/2010/06/30...uire-1ghz-processors-coming-mid-october-2010/
Yeah, N1 will surely get 3.0. 998MHz is less than 3% off from 1024MHz so I wouldn't worry about it.
Also, I'm failing to see how 2 cores is a good idea on a smartphone, unless it has some amazing battery, or I'm wrong about CPU power consumption. Dual cores have been popular on desktops for years now, and few apps actually use more than one core at a time. Android is designed to use as little CPU for background tasks as possible so I can only imagine multi-cores would only help with Flash and maybe video recording. 2 cores at 800Mhz seems like it would be slower than 1 core at 1Ghz for most tasks, and less efficient. I'll probably be proven wrong, but we'll see.
First, the RUMOR is just that. A rumor. It's probably fake.
Second, 1ghz, if anything, is probably a suggestion to mfgrs that Google doesn't recommend you run it on anything less than something that's 1ghz.
It's a rumor that's probably false and someone wrote an article assuming that stars had to mathematically align for things to happen.
That's what I call a TROLL ARTICLE. Just trying to drudge up some hits. Most iphone articles are the same thing. People eat them up, but they contain no real news or useful information.

Its a good thing a GOOGLE EMPLOYEE just yesterday said the Gingerbread requirement rumors were complete b.s. and made up for the sake of writing an article.
gizmodo.com/5578055/android-gingerbread-rumors-dismissed-by-google-on-twitter
Well the specs on the leaked vision have it using the new dual core qualcomm processors. Qualcomm specs on the processor have it using less power with the 45n process in manufacturing. I am just guessing here but the processor has the ability to be clocked to 1.2ghz but I guess it is clocked down to 800 per core for the battery life.
But anyway it is all speculation until some pics or some test devices get out.
I mean if they were planning on releasing a dual core phone running Gingerbread in less than 4 months, why would the carriers or manufacturer's want you to know? Then you would wait to buy a phone. The way it works now is, you get the best thing going, say an evo or the new samsung phone. Then 3 months from now, a phone drops that blows everything else out of the water, you have got to have the latest and greatest so you drop another 500-600 on that just a few months later. They make a lot more money that way.

While I agree that dual core on a phone is probably overkill, there are quite a few reasons..
Dual core can be more power efficient, sharing hardware while having overall higher capacity.
Faster processors = Hotter, more power requirements, etc
Multiple cores isn't just for single-app speed, it's for multiple apps running simultaneously without affecting each other. Of course if you need an app to do heavy processing it should multithread and use multiple cores, but I doubt you'll be rendering in Blender on your phone.... But with dual core, you can have two apps using 100% of a CPU without noticing any slowdown. Or... 1 app using 100% CPU and the other CPU free to do other stuff, letting the system stay responsive.
AOSP doesn't have hardware requirements.
Market has hardware requirements.
Even if fake or not, this thread is stupid cause the thread starter thinks the nexus is not a 1 ghz phone cause its only 998. Umm have you never seen Google's official spec page, they quote it at 1 ghz. Geez.

I don't think the Hummingbird is "significantly faster" than Snapdragon. Sammy has better GPU performance, which is what is mostly noticed. Both are clocked at 1GHz. I do believe Hummingbird performs slightly better than Snapdragon (can't recall why I have that belief, though), but when comparing strictly processor performance, it's minimal. The GPU is the big difference.

@soberguy Well another point to the single core issue is not things that are taking place right now but things that are taking place over the next year. Developers are going to start making high thing that will require dual core for maxium performace. Also.....where are the moderators to move this

Oh no trust me, you and I agree. I'm not getting the S with dual core around the corner. I think it's a complete waste of money. The S has some advantages over the 1, but to me, they aren't worthwhile with dual core coming very, very soon.
I just wanted to point out that Hummingbird and Snapdragon are both 1GHz, and I don't think that Hummingbird is significantly faster than Snapdragon. GPU is a different story; we all know that has been HTC's achilles heel for some time now (go back to their WinMo days and the driver fiasco...).
You and I agree, bud. The S isn't worth it, and this thread is in the wrong damn forum.

It is hard to know until you have both GalaxyS/2.2 with NexusS/2.3 running side by side, as they have the same CPU/GPU combination and the only difference is the OS.
It could well be that 2.3 uses the GPU for something what 2.2 was doing with CPU alone. And this could turn out as the biggest difference.
I am sure that N1 GPU as such is plenty fast enough, as it is used by the most of the current WP7 phones. Nobody seems to be complaining about the "jerkiness" of the WP7 interface. It is actually a matter of the time and effort sank into UI and the underlying graphics drivers. As a consequence, it can also happen, that N1 graphics drivers get less optimized as the ones in NS. We will see.
Even if dual core “around the corner” I honestly don’t think we will see optimized software for at least 6 months.... Look at the desktop computing world.. It took nearly a year for dual core to make a difference back when it was intel core solo vs core duo (or amd64 vs X2)... The software just took a lil longer to catch up. Even now, its taking awhile for a quad core to be worth it over a dual core

actually the cpu on the snapdragon is faster for computational tasks thanks to its FPU. hummingbird is on par to much slower in terms of computations (its linpack is like 14 lol)
the gpu is what separates the hummingbird from the snapdragon which is why hummingbirds seem better due to its overall performance

Excellent post, Sir. I always had the impressions, for some reason, that Hummingbird was a touch better, but the GPU made it really excel. It's great to hear that Snapdragon is actually a bit better, but is in fact held back due to the GPU. This makes me reconsider my next purchase significantly. I was thinking of holding off on HTC, as they'll continue to use Qualcom. Perhaps I'll stick with HTC, depending on when they have a dual core available for AT&T frequencies.
Ima gonna puke with all this crap about nexus s. It sucks people its made by samsung. Plastic shell cheap ****. Gps problems will come out soon and u ppl will be crying why I brought it! It's a galaxy s phone so I won't be surprised if tons of **** is wrong with it. Get the new LG phone instead or muizu m9

But that was the first time people had seen dual core on any device. Now it's been around a while and people know what they are dealing with.

So, I don't know if I'm the only one, but the only mention of dual core in a device that I've seen is the new Motorola Stingray tablet they were using to show off Maps 5. I don't even think Ginger supports Dual core. I honestly don't think we'll see anything dual core until Honeycomb.
Is there really any reason for NEEDING a dual-core processor in your phone? The only reason I can see for having it is to brag about it.

Must be worse than the screen on the SGS then as the SGS I had had a clearly far better screen than the N1.
Nexus S uses the same SGX 540/S5PC110 SOC.

the test is not fair.
the fps limited on most devices is 60 fps
the optimus x2 has uncapped fps rate
Not exactly pwn'd but we held our own against the big boys and their fancy dual core's.
I wouldn't expect dual core to help in games at all. Overall phone performance running multiple apps could be a big difference. Not to mention nothing is coded to take advantage of dual core right now either.
I don't think dual core is going to help much right now, and I am in no rush to get one. However, when things start getting optimized for dual core I may become more interested.
Im sorry, where did we beat the Tegra 2 at all? I'm not seeing it.
I would definitely not get the atrix only cause Motorola locks them down to much. I would wait for a dual core till later in the year when some.better ones come out.

Yeah, uh, noobnl, go back and look again man... we didn't pwn Tegra 2 in those tests. The Tegra 2 GeForce GPU has been proven to outperform our SGX540. Not by an insane amount, but consistently by a reasonable margin. The only reason we beat the Atrix in some tests was because it runs at a 540x960 display to our 480x800. The Optimus 2X did better than the Atrix because it's running at 480x800 as well.
I fail to see where we pwned the Tegra 2, or even come close, but it's cool to know that the Epic is still pretty competitive.
Could a CPU test be say zipping a large file and time how long it takes between phones?

tegra would probably kill us in that test, but in games and things like that we are about even.
Do you think we'll get locked out of some new games that are "dual core only" even though or phones should handle them?
I'm a bit torn on this issue. I'm very happy our phone held it's own (and it did), and I'm certainly aware that almost no app take advantage of the dual core yet. However as a very heavy multitasker, it'd be nice to get rid of that lag between 'switching' applications (which may or may no need to be reloaded into memory). Although I wonder if the nexus s/epic had 1gb of ram if I'd still feel the same way. I feel like additional RAM (which the atrix has) might be more valuable than the dual core. Just my 2 cents...

If I had to guess, we are absolutely going to get left out of new high end games. There are games out there now that are Tegra2 only, so even other dual cores will not be able to play them. Its looking like the market is going to be fragmented beyond belief by summertime. I hope developers don't continue to develop for specific SoC's, because that would harm the market more than it helps.
just like PCs. we wont see improvement till apps are made for dual core
I swear, Noobnl, you ALWAYS say you're leaving, then surprise everyone by making a new thread. LOL

I know it's disappointing, I'm hoping they only give them an exclusive for a little while. And I thought Android was supposed to be heading away from fragmentation . I honestly think they're going to kill Android by making the phone's lifespan extremely short if they keep heading in the direction they're going.
Well things to consider is the FPS cap and whether or not its being dithered as 16bit or 24bit :/..spec wise..we should be on par in the GFX department to the Tegra 2..
I personally dont see much reason to jump to dual cores yet..mostly wit quadcores coming en of the year..sure its an endless cycle..but at least by the more apps would exist that can actually take advantage of those cores...

You know muyoso... for someone who only comments on other peoples threads you have a lot of balls contradicting n00b who actually did something for the dev community and probably knows more then you.
