I just bought a My Touch 3G Slide on eBay. I got it unlocked in an hour using cellunlock.net for $10 and got it all setup. However, now I'm noticing that it never goes into 3G, just EDGE.
I searched to find if it could even work with Rogers' 3G network and I'm even more confused. So does it work with Rogers' 3G?
I've also seen posts that it works on HSPA. I've used the APNs for Rogers' HSPA and still I'm getting just EDGE. Do I have to update my radio, use CM6 or something?
Sorry, I'm new to the MT3GS. I have a MT3G/Magic and I thought the new one would be pretty much the same except with a keyboard.
I *think* that Roger's uses the AT&T bands for 3G, not T-Mobile. Sorry.

thats correct, Att and Rodgers uses the 1900mhz band and the mt3gs only has the 1700 NA band and the 850/2100mhz EU bands
That sucks. So it won't work on HSPA either then? I though Rogers offers one of those USB modems that works on 2100MHz HSPDA. Will that work with the MT3GS?

It has the 2100mhz band, but that is so you can have 3G when you go to europe. Rogers only broadcasts 1900mhz in CA.
Damn. Oh well, my wife won't know the difference between EDGE and 3G anyway. Thanks.
sorry i don't belong in this forum but how do you guys explain the g1 having 3g then its a tmobile phone does it have a att frequency for no reason?
Rogers actually sold G1s so they probably got their own version that will work on their network.

unlocked g1's from the US work on rogers network.
Beats me. The myTouch 3G Slide I got from the US works too just not on 3G but on Edge.

OK, I finally get that the frequency band is a hardware thing and that Rogers and T-Mobile use different bands.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands
So is it possible to change the actual cell phone radio chip and write a ROM that will work with it? I realize it's crazy, but with all the Android development going on, you'd think someone would have tired to get some device that only worked with T-Mobile to work on At&t.

is possible? will it have the full extend to the network coverage?
No, 3g internet will not work.
not even with custom roms or something?
this is the version Telstra Next G model(850/2100Mhz)

I'll trade you my T-Mobile US HD2 for your Telstra HD2.
Is it like the HD2 or will It be 3G on AT&T?

I really like to know the same... if the DHD can get At&t 3g,,, I will get rid of my Vibrant in no time....
The DHD operates in these bands:
HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G (HSPA/WCDMA) will not work because USA uses 850MHz/1900MHz bands for 3G. GSM will work everywhere.
I got an HD2 t9193 destined for Australia which worked here.

USA doesn't use 850/1900 AT&T uses 850/1900.
T-Mobile is also in the USA, but they use the AWS 1900/2100 band for 3G.
And to answer th OP question, the European version of the DHD does not support any current 3G bands that any of the major US carriers use.
So what options for US users?
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
What would you need the DHD for? You've got the Evo.
(Now I'm expecting you to start listing the differences...)
No, I have an Aria after my t9193 hd2 died last week (was 3g here in US and Europe). I was waiting for the dhd so its a stop gap. Or so u thought. I'm on ATT so looks like, if I want 3g, I either keep this or get the Galaxy (but I want sense). Or move to Verizon (not an option) .
Any ideas anyone?

Aside from the DHD being an all-around better device, Sprint sucks. Their "4G" network is slower than my T-Mobile 3G. Not to mention I pay $60/month with T-Mobile and the cheapest Evo plan is $90/month.

If you want a high-end Android device you have the Captivate, and that's about it for AT&T. Unfortunately AT&T put all their eggs in one basket with the iPhone so their Android lineup suffers. You could always go to T-Mobile and get the G2
Does this mean that the phone will not work at all (e.g. cant make or receive calls or txts) or does it mean that you can't use data via 3G (just means you have to use wi-fi)?

It means no 3G data in the US. The phone still supports 850/900/1800/1900 for 2G networks so you'll be able to do calls, texts, MMS, and even data. It's just that you'll be on Edge instead of 3G.

I wish but this time I am afraid our luck is a little short unlike last time for the HD2 . Let's just hope that HTC will bring out a much more powerful device sometimes in Q1 2011 for users with 3G (850/1900Mhz)
I saw that its going to be quadband. Does that mean T-Mobile's 3G will work on it? Thanks..

I think so... Expansys detail the Milestone 2 and Droid 2 as Quad Band and the exact specs...
Hope that helps!
Probably not. Probably has the same bands as Droid Pro which according to leaked documentation has UMTS 850/1900/2100.
There is no reason for them to include AWS in the Droid 2 Global since the only companies that use AWS are in North America where there are CDMA networks.

Quad GSM Tri UMTS Dual CDMA
GSM only is run on four bands worldwide, so any quadband GSM phone will work on any GSM network. UMTS has a large mess of bands and you need a phone which supports your network.

My friend was testing out my phone and decided to put his Bell sim card into my "unlocked" T-Mobile HD2. The problem we couldn't figure out was why the phone wouldn't get any signal what so ever and even configured my phone to Bell Mobility settings.
I use Energy's Rom and changed some of the Band/Network setting but that didn't seem to work.
Any suggestions?
Tmo HD2 uses normal gsm and 1700/2100 hsdpa aka aws, bell does not support that. Wind mobile uses aws (which is what i am using with my hd2) all though you should get a roaming signal.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I know in Energy's Rom there is an option to change the 3G bands from like 850+1900 and stuff, shouldn't that work?
removed.
Is that Bell SIM card for a prepaid account? If so that's why it doesn't work. Prepaid cell services don't work the same way as regular ones, and have to use specially configured devices in order to gain a signal.
Thanks for the replies! Yes i think the Bell Sim Card is a prepaid account one. The probably explains the problems we were having.
What are some carriers that are confirmed to work with the T-Mobile HTC HD2? Rogers, Fido?, Wind?, Mobilicity?
Also want to know if i'm using Rogers would the 3G capability work. I am currently using Energy's Rom.
Roger's Wind and Mobilicity are the ones that I know for sure should work. I dunno about Fido, but basically any GSM service around the world that DOESN'T use prepaid SIM cards should work with an unlocked HD2, or any device for that matter. And as far as Roger's 3G capability I don't know, what bands does Roger's use for 3G access? The TMO US HD2 uses AWS 1700/2100.
I believe rogers uses 850/1900. Not too sure but thats what i heard. Theres an option on the rom i flashed to enable 850+1900 umts or something. Im guess that would work. Cause i know if you use the stock rom that came with the T-Mobile, you the 3G doesn't work since its like 1700/2100.

The rom will not enable 850 or 1900 umts. Ask any at&t subscriber trying to use a tmo hd2 on their network and trying to use 3g. Won't happen. If your looking for 3g, you need aws (and canada does have one, i don't remember who they are at the moment) or 2100mhz 3g/umts. gsm will work with a lot more bands.

your wrong the Prepaid part, most prepaid cards do work like At&t, some dont work if they are like the ones sold by wallmart, but ANy GSM Sim card should work. i tried it on AT&T, VODAFONE AND AIRTEL

Won't work. Bell (and Telus, Virgin, Koodo, Solo) only has 850/1900 HSPA... which this phone doesn't.
Wind, Mobilicity, Videotron have 1700 AWS so this phone will work with them, ditto for Rogers and Fido but in 2G mode only (since they have 850/1900 GSM)
Is there a way to get the MT4G to work with Rogers 3G (HSPA/HSPA+) in Canada? I bought a paygo sim and am only seeing edge. I think that maybe the MT4G doesn't support the correct bands but I'm not sure. If anyone could enlighten me I'd be very appreciative.
thanks

It wont work because it doesnt support 3G on the 850/1900 bands. It should work on Wind Mobile rho because they both operate on the AWS bands.

Aw shucks.... it really sucks that 3G isn't more standardized..... hopefully the world will move toward a more homogenized system so that roaming between countries isn't such a hassle. Thanks for the info Master.
Please post questions in Q&A section.
Hey, When you say that it won't work with 3G but it will with edge do you mean just the data? Will it still work for making phone calls?
