Anyone Using Tasker? - XPERIA X10 General

Anyone using it? how is it? worth the money ? and what it does? please share

Yep, I'm using it. It's quite useful. I've set it up to turn on silent mode when I reach work geographical area using the network to determine location(not GPS). I've also set it up to turn off notification tone at night, but keep the phone ringer on for emergency incoming calls. I've set it up to automatically set max brightness and volume when opening the Youtube app.
There are some limitations since we're running Android 1.6... it seems bluetooth detection support is for 2.1+, so I couldn't set it up to automatically read me SMS messages when it connects to bluetooth in the car for example.
Overall, a great app with tons of potential. However, we're limited by our Android 1.6 at the moment to use all the features of Tasker. Another thing is it seems the author of Tasker hasn't really updated the app in a month or so... but he does have a page up that shows what features he's planning to work on next.

can this app saves u battery?

i am using it and i can say that it is a great app worth buying
i use it for
-to provide notification & LED when battery falls below 25%
-to automatically switch on wifi GPs etc with app context
-custom menu when headphones plugged in
-etc
as mentioned by pally777 in above post "a great app with tons of potential".
BTW the new 1.09 beta has location tracking using CELLID

Video Tones as "ringtone" ?

Hello,
does any one know an application that can enable videos to be set as ringtones for incoming calls? So far I have found 'Vringo' as a solution but using it didn't allow you to add different videos to different people from the contacts. It allows you to choose only one video.
Thank you in advance.
there should be mivtones (www.mivtones.com) . Never tried it though
Thank you for the tip. i installed it, however the programm is not working properly on my HTC Desire. When i enable it the phone is ringging with the standart ring tone and once i decline the call the video starts playing. I had some issues with the vringo application as well, but it's working fine as long as you don't turn the vibration on.
i had this app on my iphone and its great it will probably be a few updates to work out the bugs but otherwise there support section is good about getting out the best product possible

My First impressions with KP8

First of all this is for the noobs, like me, Devs or smart users stay outta this
Below are/were my impressions after playing with KP8 for 45+ minutes,
• Hell of a lot better than previous build, KP1. Yes, I will call it a Beta, finally
• Phone calls were good, in ear volume was good and loud enough for me.
• Vibration intensity is FINALLY back to normal, unlike KP1 where it was so faint that you could barely feel it.
• Ringtone volume is normal.
• Incoming call UI is same as before and the Reject and Answer button doesn't animate while sliding. (Beta)
• Phone signal is rock solid and stable.
• 3G does work, Wi-Fi too.
• Noise Cancellation feature is FINALLY here, you can turn it off/on manually. It was presented in the previous build too.
• Stock broswer is brilliant, smooth as hell, no lag of whatsoever while Auto fit enabled. Lot of customisation options are there too, like font size, invert colors, Desktop view, Bandwith management, Offline reading etc... Flash plugins worked well too, make sure you download the latest Flash Player.
Sad part keeps remaining, no EXIT option
• Contacts have more options to display, attached screenshot.
• Stock GMail app is upgraded, same like KP1, no multi touch/pinch to zoom.
• Stock Email app is kinda weird, all black background, maybe there is a way to change it, didn't have time.
• Clock, Calender, Gallery, Maps, Calculator, Task, Memo (new icon), Mini diary, Voice Recorder, FM Radio, My Files, Voice recorder everything are same as in GB, so no, Sammy won't update those thing in TW for ICS, maybe.
• ICS Lockscreen is weird, doesn't work well.
• Camera works completely well, every settings work, same goes for 1080P Video recording.
• Task Manager is ICS style, slide left to close an app, cool.
• LWP does work, however there are some lags.
• 480X800 Wallpapers DOESN'T fit in desktop! Same like KP1. Should and will be fixed.
• Market works perfectly fine, downloading app works good too.
• No Swype, not that I expected.
• All the network based options were there, including APN's.
• GPS is fine, got lock in indoors!
• YouTube app works perfectly fine, some new options were added.
• Stock video player somehow played 1080P file, it was not watchable for me. Audio was intact on the other hand.
• Music player is SAME.
• Had 3 FC's so far, once system also froze.
• The smoothness allover UI is pretty fine, HW acceleration is definitely there, I like the elastic type scrolling, however it need more polishing, undoubtedly.
• Overscroll glow is reduced somewhat, with ICS color instead of blue. I still hate it anyway.
• Stock fonts worked. Not in Browser and other places though.
• Connection with PC worked.
• Unread SMS icon changed in LS, (I don't like it) and there is NO missed call notification icon in LS!
••• What am I doing? Of course I am going back to my Nandroid backup , no way this was a daily ROM for me.
If I remember anymore I'll update, feeling sleepy.
Attaching some screenshots.
Regards.
Nice list. I think that we've reached the point where we should stop talking about what works, but rather about what does not yet.

Live Wallpaper
I found the whole thing to be somewhat unresponsive and the lack of proper SD card support was killer for me.
- Then there was Samsung's firmware update notification that failed when I tried to accept the terms and would not go away.
- Certain apps like gmail would crash and the hole phone would become unstable.
- Overheating problems
- Lockscreen is buggy
Needed a small help. In case, any one of you is going to revert to a more stable ROM, can someone check whether this mod for skipping music when screen off works before doing so?

Feature requests for the Q

Question- What additional features would you like to see on the Q? So far I have additional features added;
Dual Mode
Browser
Clock
LinuxonAndroid support
Email
FTP/HTTP Server
Limited but functional Play Store
G+ services like Messenger and Stream
NTFS support when combined with StickMount
Zumocast
WiiMote as remote works with the proper app installed
Some things like are problematic as the kernel (no source) lacks needed services but I will work to find a solution.
I replied to you on RootzWiki as well (great work on the rom), but had one more thing: enable wallpaper support for the launcher! I have my home screen all set up, but it would be much cooler with a wallpaper.

Suggest me Smartwatch

Hello, I would like to buy a smart watch for my phone. My first requorement is that I want silent my phone with it. In class I usually find it troublesome to make it silent. Second I want to check my Facebook notification and see who is calling, accept or reject calls. Which smart watch would allow this?
Sony smartwatch 2 will do as I know
Sent from my GT-I9295 using Tapatalk
X2, I have the motoactv, metawatch, and Sony smartwatch 2.
They will all do what you want but the smartwatch 2 has been the most minimal cost/headache. I did have to get a paid app to get my sms working but now that I've hammered out the issues I'm pretty happy.
The downside is the smartwatch 2, is the hardest and most non-hackable watch out right now.
I use my smartwatch 2 to monitor my phone, switch, ringer/vibrate/silent, turn Bluetooth/Wifi on and off, and notifications.
You could wait a little longer as the google/apple/qualicom watches should be announced or out very soon.

May also want to keep an eye on the SmartQ Z Watch.
I have smartq z watch for 4 days, I like that it can get ALLLL the notifications if you wanted, from every app on your phone, .. it basically takes everything comes to your notification bar in your android device and show it in your smartwatch, and by anything I mean ANYTHING! FB, Whatsapp, BBM,SMS, Hangouts ... etc you dont need special app to get notifications.
If there are more than one notification of same app, they will be grouped, you will get like "2 Whatsapp messages" instead of the content, .. but thats how android notification bar works by default you have to expand to see more info, wish you could expand content from watch, Also, just like normal android notifications in your phone, if you dismissed the notifications in your watch after seeing them you will not be able to retrieve it from watch
You can decide what apps you want push notifications for. there is a list of userapps and system apps in the sync app you tick / untick apps that you want to push the notification
I find that having bluetooth headset connected to your phone + z watch connected to your phone is ideal.
when a call comes, the caller id and picture appears in your watch, and you can answer and reject, .. if you answer you can directly use your bluetooth headset to talk and receive voice without even lifting your phone
The watch also has 3.5 headphone jack and a microphone, .. so technically you can do calling **** tracy style lol, .. but if you have a bluetooth headset it would be a lot more ideal IMO.
for SMS you can reply using pre-defined templates (you can customize those from the sync app)
seems smartq z watch is a good choice.

By theory it should. Since its an android device running 4.3. So its not device specific most probably.

Can you designate certain apps to bypass fingerprint security while in use?

All,
Does anyone know if there's a way to make it when using the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge so that when I'm using a certain DESIGNATED app that the phone would let me BYPASS fingerprint security as long as I'm using that designated app?
For example, let's say I start listening to music on my S7 Edge using the Poweramp music app. While the app is playing my music, let's say the screen turns off (or I turn it off). When I push the Power button in order to wake the screen back up, if I'd selected Poweramp to be a designated app, the phone would skip the fingerprint security measure altogether and just unlock itself.
IS there a setting that can make this happen? If not, is there an APP that can do this?? Please let me know. It would just be nice like when I'm driving if I didn't have to deal with the extra security measure.
Thank You,
RockStar2005
Maybe you could just use the inbuilt feature smart lock? Don't think you can use it for specific apps though it.

mklass,
What do you mean? How do I get to that?
Well if any developers reading this think they can create an app that would accomplish this, please feel free to do so. I would DEFINITELY pay for such an app if one was ever made.
Thanks!
Well I'm using a nexus 5 at the moment and there's a feature called smartlock in settings.
It allows you to bypass security based on certain things like location, if your phones in your pocket, if you connect to a Bluetooth device or a WiFi connection.
I have pattern lock on my phone but as soon as I get home and connect to my WiFi it bypasses my secuiry and I don't have to enter my patten lock, same when I get in my car and connect to my Bluetooth car system.
I think what you're asking for is a custom lockscreen app that will allow you to black list certain apps so that if the app was the last app used before the screen turned off, the lockscreen app would either auto unlock or ask for the security pin check.
It's possible you maybe able to do such a think using Tasker once you can root the s7e.
Tasker can enable and disable the lockscreen depending on what app is in the foreground and so if your music app is active, then Tasker will disable the lockscreen, which when your screen turns off, there will be no lockscreen when you turn it on next, and if you activate an app not on your tasker conditions list, then Tasker will re-enable the lockscreen again (accessibility & root required for sure).
but of course you will need to know that your phone security won't be as good.

Oh ok. I know exactly what you mean now, and yes, the S7 Edge DOES have that feature. I don't have bluetooth in my car so I'm not sure how I do it.
There is a Smartlock option called On-body detection that keeps it unlocked as long as it feels it's being held or is kept upright, but when it is laid down it locks up. Problem is, when I lay it down and let the screen turn off, it still doesn't lock the phone. Ughh!
Sorry that didn't do what you needed buddy

Thanks for that info. That sounds like what I'm looking for, but if it requires a root, I'll have to pass. lol I rooted my HTC One M8 a couple years ago, and it was kinda cool at first, but it's not worth the headache. I really wish someone would make an app that would do what Tasker does but NOT require rooting. Oh well.

Neutron can bypass the lockscreen
Edit: picture added. And it only lets you access neutron, you'll have to input you fingerprint to access any other app. I much prefer neutron to Poweramp for quality and depth of customization too.

yeah root does have its negatives, but the option is yours to just change only what you need, applying root doesn't change anything on your phone instantly, it just unlocks the doors, its up to you if you want to open any of them

is it the actual main Neutron music app screen interface? or is it a lockscreen widget of the app? I'd say disabling the lockscreen would be pretty impossible for a non superuser app. if in fact it is possible, then hopefully tasker could be coded to do the same

It's not as user friendly because it's for professionals. You can literally get lost in the settings. The developers are amazing, its updated often. If rich features and customization are important to you then it's the best music player for you. And afaik it's the only app that can load it's UI before the lockscreen, music player or otherwise.
Edit: and yes it sounds better and is infinitely more tunable than Poweramp. It's the only media player with 64bit decoding. Really, if you're serious about music then get it and spend some time learning about the settings. The possibilities are endless.

sonhy,
I just tried Neutron and it WORKS!!! I applied the "Lock Screen" setting (I don't want Wake Lock b/c it will keep screen on forever, and Power Lock keeps it on if it's plugged in, which I don't want either).
Only thing is, is it known to be buggy? I heard the UI wasn't as good as Poweramp's but that it sounds better, but twice in the last 10 minutes the app froze on me. Not 100% I will keep it but maybe.
Thanks so much again!!

No I got the full paid version a while ago but never really used it. I'll give it more time, but it does what I wanted it to........... it comes up IN FRONT OF the fingerprint scan request on the lock screen. It's not bypassing it, but getting in front of it is basically the same thing. Very cool!
The UI actually isn't that bad once you give it a chance. I need to spend more time with it though, and I would like to compare it with Poweramp for my own knowledge. I've always been interested in music (I play guitar as well). But I have in the last 15-16 mos gotten really into Hi-Fi listening......... including Hi-Res music, using a premium amp/DAC (the Oppo HA-2), and premium headphones as well (the AKG K553). I HIGHLY recommend both! I'd tried the HA-2 against other devices that cost twice as much, and it sounded just as good as them. The K553 I'd pitted against like $400 headphones, and it sounded BETTER than all of them!
With the HA-2 in the mix, I'm not AS concerned about the sound quality of the app on headphones, although the sound is better when I use the better apps vs. like the stock player. But in my car, I'm not using the HA-2, so the greater the sound quality the better!
2 questions for now..........
1) Does 64-bit processing REALLY make a difference? I will test it myself but still good to hear other's opinions.
2) Is there an option like what Poweramp has where Neutron will stop playing when a phone call comes in, and then resume once the call ends? If so, where exactly is it?
Thanks!

Ok great!
Sounds like a pretty good setup!
Ok I'll test it out tonight perhaps and see if I notice a difference. First I want to compare Neutron to Poweramp. I'll keep 64-bit on for that because I wanna hear how they both sound when at their BEST settings. (EQ will be off on both.)
Ok awesome! Does it also stop when the GPS speaks in the car? I kinda prefer it NOT to stop (Poweramp lets you decide this), but if it does, that's fine.
Thanks!
