I experience that my set picked up wi-fi (set as n/b/g) but could not connect. After reconfiguring the wifi to just b/g, it's solved.
In your case I am not sure as it did not find the AP at all.
How do you reconfigure it to b/g only?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
is your wi-fi ssid hidden? may the phone can't find your wifi
i'm using a b/g/n wireless router at home as well, secured wifi using wpa2.
can u find your wifi?
settings -> wireless & networks -> wi-fi settings (be sure, wi-fi is turned on!!) -> add wi-fi OR menu "button" -> scan
i hope the translation is right, cuz i'm using a german wildfire.

I've recently successfully enabled my XDA Mini S to talk to my home router over WiFi.
Does anyone have advice on how to enable "self discovery" of WiFi network, such as in aiports, cofee house etc

Networks that have already been configured (ie connected to and the WEP key entered etc) are classed as 'Preferred Networks. In the WLAN configurator, you can tick the checkbox which says 'Automatically connect to non-preferred networks', and this will search and (attempt to ) connect to any available network, preferred or not.
When this box is checked, the PDA will detect any new networks and give you the opportunity to configure them (if needed).
Hope this helps.
I have used this quite a bit when out and about - several hotels I have stayed at have had hotspots and I have had no issue in connecting with them and using the net as I would at home.
So I'm facing this problem, generally not just on my Touch HD but also on a older Dell Axim x50v but also on a friends iPhone.
I got a WiFi network set up at home, secured etc. two notebooks connect over it to the internet on a daily basis, but I just can't get the HD or any other mobile device to connect to the Internet over the WiFi.
On my HD, I can easily connect to the WiFi, even edit router settings over it, but not the internet. The MAC of the HD is entered in the router to be given a fixed IP and is allowed to receive packets same as the tow notebooks.
Is there some problem with the mobile devices or is it a issue with the WiFi?
On my device I found the connection through Comm Manager>Wi-fi>Settings>Wireless LAN quite straightforward. Does not need any mac# assignment on the router as long as WEP/WPA keys are in router (router set in infrastructure mode). Other settings I used, if that's any help is in Configure Wireless Networks - Networks to Access - Only access points and in Network Adaptors - My network card connects to - The Internet.
Hope that helps.

Hi was able to save this ans but forgot the source though.
1. Go to start/settings/connections and click 'Wi-Fi.
Click 'Wi-Fi' and from the drop down menu chose 'Work' (not 'The Internet') then click 'OK'.
(Seems crazy I know but that's WM terminology for you).
2. You should still be in start/settings/connections/ so click 'Connections' the 'Advanced' tab.
click 'Select Networks' and set both boxes to 'My Work Network'.
Click OK.
3. Now when you click Settings/Communications (in Touch Flo desktop) and turn on Wi-Fi every app that connects to the internet will automatically connect via your WiFi connection.
4. If you need to connect using your Telco’s Data connection (should you be away from a WiFi router:
From Settings/Communications click then 'Select Networks' and in the top box choose 'internet' or ('Optus internet settings' in my case).
Remember to disconnect using 'Select networks switch' and change it back to 'My Work Network' as per step 2 once your finished.
this solves my problem..
some though needs to boost there power settings. To do so;
Go to start/settings/connections and click 'Wi-Fi. Then go to advance then choose "power mode" tab. Then change the slide to middle from best battery or to best performance.
HTH.
I tried both suggestions and it still doesn't work for me. Well, it further hints towards a problem with my router settings, so gonna have to see if I can find the problem there.
Hi,
I've searched the forum but always found the wrong direction - how to use the mobile internet connection with a laptop. Answer of choice: "Use the WLAN-Router software on the HD2". That might work for others, but I need the opposite way.
I've got a Lenovo T500 with most recent WLAN drivers and the HD2 (OS 5.2.21869, Manila 2.5.19211619.0, ROM 1.66.407.1 (76641) GER) and I want to use the internet connection of my notebook (at work ;-)) with the phone.
So I thought I'd set up an adhoc wifi connection between those two.
But it doesn't work. Both devices see each other but none of them can connect. For the notebook I can set a static IP 192.168.1.xxx for the WLAN card, but how do I set this on the HD2. I've tried setting static IPs for all the network adapters listed under Settings -> Menu -> More -> Connections -> WLAN -> Advanced -> General -> network adapters -> network adapters ... (on my german OS: Einstellungen -> Menü -> Mehr -> Verbindungen -> WAN -> Erweitert -> Netzwerkkarten -> Netzwerkkarten ...). But on the "Advanced" tab next to "General" I get "Status: Connected to network, MAX: ........, IP 0.0.0.0". When I tap the WiFi symbol in the top status bar, it says: "Wi-Fi: not connected ...".
I'm lost! Can anybody help please?
Hmmmm I would assume that the HD2 Wi Fi App emits an Ad-Hoc Wi Fi connection type....which is like a PC TO PC network connection right? Same happened to me, however in this case my PS3 didn't see my HD2 wifi network...so yes, it may not ever work..unless there's a hack someone develops
Thanks for the reply, but that's odd.
I have no problem connectiong to my WLAN router at home (infrastructure mode). DHCP works perfect on that.
But at work my only way would to ad-hoc connect to my notebook and use its LAN connection from there on.
It seems a bit dumb to offer an ad-hoc mode and then not support it properly - so I still hope for some more feedback.
So is the Connection to your laptop a wired connection?
If so you can either connect your phone to your laptop via a cable and WMDC, or if you want wireless you can right click on your wired connection and go to the properties, you should be able to share the connection with your wireless card. the PC will handle the DHCP and IP Allocation. but you need to create a Ad-hoc network for your wireless card.
all you need to do is turn the router on on the hd and connect to it e with windows, you need to set windows to be able to see adhoc networks though, should be in the advanced wifi settings.

No he's wanting to use the Laptops LAN connection if I'm reading it right instead of the phones data connection, ie Internet>Laptop>Phone if you turn on the wifi Router the internet connection will be coming from the phone not to the phone
On the PC right-click on your LAN connection, choose share, select the WLAN connection as the interface you want to share on. Create an ad-hoc network on the PC, then connect to it with the HD2.
Or use ActiveSync/WMDC via cable or bluetooth.

Aaaah Gotya, if that's the case, try Connectify on the laptop to create a WiFi hotspot, and let it deal with the DHCP'd client for you. Works fine for me.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far!
I'll try them out and report back if any of it worked for me.
Sorry for digging out this thread but I have the same problem (I can connect to ad-hoc with my notebook but I don't have internet on HD2) and any solutions in web didn't help me. Sorry for bad english Please - any suggestions?
I was having problems with ad-hoc connection as well. The only thing that fixed it was to delete the settings for my other networks and then the ad-hoc started working. I don't know if this will help everyone, but it worked for me.

I can't delete settings of my other networks because I set static IP in connection with internet. Maybe I must try share internet via bluetooth. Where I can fin guide about it? (I've already tried to search on forum)
I can acces to internet via router connection, but not by ad-hoc. Someone had this kind of problem and solved it with some program or smth else?
check it out !
chech it out it might help u, but select "work" instead of "internet" and don't open network adapters...
exc.
oops... I can't paste link(because i'm new user), but search with google in the forum "how to access internet with laptop (vista) through wireless" and open the first link. I explained every thing there to set up adhoc connection with hd2...
How to connect to internet using WiFi in HTC Touch 2
Hi,
I have wifi connection in my building and I got network key.
Handest successfully connected to wifi.
But I am not able to connect to internet using this wifi connection.
Plz anybody tell me how to connect to internet using wifi connection.
Thanks.
Perhaps the signal strength is not sufficient
no. signal strength is ok.
my friend is using it with Nokia E72
Which IEEE standard (a, b, g, n )be used his router?
Does he have any MAC filtering enabled on the router?
Have a look in that direction.
I do not think it's up to your phone.
he just activates wifi and starts using internet. nothing else.
but for me i am able to connect to wifi,
but i want settings that required to set in "settings->connections" to select wifi as internet.
i used internet using gprs service without any problem.
thanks
* have you checked the proxy settings?
* MAC filtering on the router?
* is there a firewall somewhere?
I just bought the Galaxy Y and it can't seem to detect my wifi connection at home. Now, it has been like this before with my friend's Y, so it must be my wifi router's setting. (The Y is able to detect other wifi networks around the neighborhood).
So my question is can someone help me to configure my router? For example, do you guys use PPPoE or PPPoA, security mode WEP or WPA etc? I have tried changing the settings one by one but still can't find my wifi network.
Right now these are my connections
PPPoE
Wireless Channel 11
Wireless mode b,g & n
Qos On
WPA2-PSK
Change the network security to
Wpa-** + wpa-***
**-the names usualy differ in routers but u will have one which provides 2 security forms at once...
Change channel to automatic
Make sure ur correct connection login details are entered!
Try this out and tell me what was the result u got
