Freshevo ROM 4g won't connect? - EVO 4G General

I'm running the latest Freshevo ROM. Going thru a 4G area and it keeps notifying me that their is a 4G network available...it says connecting to sprint and then goes back to "Searching"
Any ideas?

I've posted this same question over in the Q&A forum. But I'm on Fresh 3.1.0.2 with Netarchy's Fresh Kernel. My 4g just gets stuck at scanning. Someone suggested checking to see if your MAC address (menu-settings-about phone-hardware info) matches the MAC address under your battery.
Mine does and I still dont get anything. If yours doesnt.... search for MAC address fix.
Someone also suggested deleting a trees.xml, but I dont know what that does so I havent done it yet.

I have been able to connect in the past week without problem on fresh 3.2.
Today I tried to connect and I get the same thing you are seeing, it tries to authenticate, then drops back to scanning.
I know the 4g in my area is not "live" yet but has been stable for a few weeks.
I checked with another evo user here and they cannot connect either.
I don't think its a ROM or a phone problem. See if anyone else in your area can get 4g before you start mucking with your phone.

I wish I could ask others but I'm on a train...we are passing thru a 4G area. We stopped at a station for 10 minutes where I rebooted and turned on 4G and still just "searching"
Gonna check MAC now...

4g cannot jump from tower to tower. If you are on a train, you are likely jumping to different towers before you can connect.
From what I have read, 4g is only good for about 2 miles.

Makes sense, we weren't moving at one point and it was disconnecting. Then we got to our next station and it connected. Got it and then we started moving again. So looks like the wimax radios do work for me...hmmm.

Error Code 67 while roaming driving me nuts

First off, I have NOT made ANY attempt to use the phone as a WiFi hotspot, and I do NOT live in a 4G area, so don't tell me that's my problem and send me on my way
About 11am PDT today my phone started giving me Error Code 67 (Data Call Failure) whenever I try to access the internet or data services from my office (my office has an 850 MHz repeater so I roam in the office). When I am outside or not in my office and the phone picks up a Sprint signal, everything is fine. As soon as I come back inside and my phone switches to roaming, Error Code 67. I've had two calls with Sprint so far...They're updating the provisioning servers or some such thing at the moment and are going to call me back when that's completed.
Has anyone else experienced this today or recently and if so did you find a resolution? I can't easily take the phone back to where I bought it and have them fiddle with it in person as that's 100 mi away.
Thanks!
I've had the same issue too. See it mostly when traveling and the signal strength changes. Not to much when I'm in one spot.
It's quite annoying. I turn the display off and on hoping to pick the signal back up. Makes me think it is a Sprint network problem especially since I've now confirmed someone else has the problem too.

Well, they've got me fixed up again. Also while I was on the phone the gentleman helping me out received an interoffice message stating a server responsible for doing profile updates (Device Configuration message) on the EVO had gone down, so they're failing right now.
I have been getting it as well. I thought it was the roaming hack but I don't believe that is the case. Think it's just something on Sprints network.
I have gotten it too on both of my EVO's....I guess it's not just me

Yeah I read through that whole thread and it seems a fair amount of people have had this happen today. And as I wrote in that thread some service at Sprint related to sending out new PRLs and profiles to our phones went down as well.
I had the same problem yesterday my 3g suddenly went out with the 67 error but 4g still worked. I called sprint and they reset something on their end and after programming itself it w.ent away and my 3g data speed saw a nice speedbump
I've had this issue a few times with my Evo. Every time it has happened to me, I've had little or no signal.
What I think is happening is that the phone begins to authenticate itself with the data servers but then I lose reception, which causes the authentication to fail, hence the error message.
I _think_ I've had this happen on my Hero too.
yeah, (don't quote me on this, i may be wrong) i think error 67 is in regards to no data hookup, and if your phone is set to not get data during roaming, or to dilly dally about it (maybe roam guard?) (check settings > wireless and networks > mobile networks), it'll give you that error
I too had this issue for a while today. It was annoying the crap out of me.
same thing happened to me today, for some reason i wasn't able to get anything but a weak roaming signal at work all day. i called sprint, they wiped my phone and i still wasn't able to do the profile/prl update. i was able to do it once i left the building, of course i had to start with a blank slate on the phone. i'm hoping that after the updates i get a better signal in the building, otherwise i can't keep the phone and will have to return it for a (gag) iphone. after 3 days with a vastly superior OS that would be a tough thing to do.
Mine is def. not the Roam settings... That's the first thing I do is turn off Roam guard, call guard, special roam ring...etc. due to me having almost no signal at work.
I had this issue when I changed to the Alltel PRL. I rebooted, then ran the PRL update. It took a while to do, but once it got the Sprint PRL everything was fine.
-Midnigh7-
I had the same issue yesterday around the same time as the OP. Seems that maybe Sprint was having issues. Anyway, phone is back working and roaming today and even roaming 3G in the DC metro which is Verizon and was never Alltel AFAIK, so that's cool. Actually, some stations have Sprint in them, but others are Verizon and I had 3G Roaming in them today, so I was pleasently surprised, hope it sticks.

Odd 4G note

I'm in a pretty good area for 4G, so I've been turning it on when I leave the house lately...but recently, I've noticed something odd. While I get pretty good download speeds on speedtest.net, and it downloads files very well, when I go to a website, it won't load the page. The status indicator will go halfway, 3/4 of the way, but then it will hang, and the page will never load. I tested this in an area, last night, where I was getting 8+ Mbps (New Brunswick, NJ), in both Dolphin, and the stock browser, same effect in both. Then I turned off 4G, and the same sites (I tested about 6-7) loaded just fine in 3G. Anyone else notice this fairly annoying quirk?
I'm in Brooklyn and I've experienced the same thing a couple of times. I chalked it up to the 4g roll-out testing in the area.
If it flips to 3G and back to 4G even for a second it can jack up a page. Does reloading help?
When I had my EVO I also found that when I had 4G enabled the GTalk service would only very sporadically make AND hold a connection.
Turn off 4G and reboot the phone and I was able to connect no problem.
I called Sprint a few times on it but the people I spoke with in advanced support didn't have a clue to rather than hope for a fix I decided to return the phone and wait to see how the official rollout went.

No, this isn't a case where it's switching from 4G to anything else. It's only when it's loading a website in a 4G area, with 4G on - and it actually seems to get worse as the 4G signal gets stronger. In my case, it's very repeatable.
I'm going to try deleting the cache, and see if that helps...
It's really not that big a deal, as it downloads any other file type, and does it very well, when in a 4G area, and websites load fine via 3G. It's just a little odd.
Oh, I guess it would be a problem if I wanted to view a website while talking on the phone...

Yeah, I've noticed the same issue. There is no performance gain on loading webpages it seems. I don't really get a chance to tether my pc often on 4G (other than letting files download in the car), so I can't vouch for that, but I do get better web page performance on 3G.
Anybody have any more insight into this issue? In the past I was able to access any site using 4g just fine, but lately, any site that uses flash will load 4/5 of the way and then completely stop. I am not a smart guy and have exhausted basically all of the resources I have. I have tried flashing an older Wimax, tweaking Wimax settings, uninstalling flash updates and nothing has worked. I guess if it really starts to bother me I will give Sprint a call, although it seems like people over here at XDA know just as much if not more about these things...and you guys wont make me unroot to talk about them.
Thanks.
I experienced same thing. I'm guessing it's the network issue(it's just not dependable in my experience), and not even use it for websurfing anymore. I think 3g is plenty for websurfing, and use 4g for tethering.
Go into wireless & Networks and turn off Mobile Network that will turn off 3g completely just use 4g by itself and you wont have to worry about it switching between the 2
Well, for me at least, the situation seems to have resolved itself...the past couple of days, I've been able to go to websites on 4g with no issues whatsoever. And as a bonus, the 4G coverage around my apt (which isn't even an official 4G area yet) is up to about 8Mbps! Nice.
My phone was doing that the other day too, I dont live in a 4g area. It was also going on being connected to wifi. My browser screen was also going black but the phone wasn't sleeping, I flashed another ROM and it was doing the same thing. It hasn't done it over the past few days now. I guess it worked itself out.

4G stuck at obtaining IP address

Alright I tried searching for this but keep finding only WIFI issues. First of all my wife has the Epic as well, she connects to 4G just fine, as for me I did as well but after I flashed midNIGHTS 2.4 rom I cannot get my 4G to connect, instead it hangs at obtaining ip address then disconnects and tries again. If anyone has any solutions that would be great.

Have you tried using a static ip?
Well not sure how to go about doing that. My WIFI connects just fine its the 4G thats not connecting.
My 4G is also not connecting... i know for sure 4g is available in my are because my friends evo can connect to 4g. i downgraded from dk28 to DI18, still no lick on 4g working. any ideas?
If you're having the same problem I had then your 4G radio is shot. It is known but very limited problem on the epic and their is no fix for it. Go to the sprint store and they'll replace it.
Damn well I hope thats not true, that means I'll have to Odin back to stock 2.1 which honestly I hate doing. It's always a hold your breathe thing to make sure it flashes correctly for me. Anyways this really sucks though, but the fact that its trying to obtain an ip makes you believe that its shot?
Try to turn 4G from the settings menu and tell me if it says unknown.

No I click Turn On, it goes to connecting then hangs at obtaining IP address...30 seconds or so Disconnected. And then flashes scanning for a split second and show Disconnected
Okay your 4g radio is working, but its weird that it won't connect. Flash it back to stock and see what happens. If it still doesn't work, your local sprint awaits.

Thats what I don't want to have to do But if that fixes it then I must.
I just hate the process of going back to stock then root then ext4 then rom then test it out again. BOOO this is gonna be a long night/day
Alright before I start the long process, would reflashing the modem for dk28 help at all?
Oh I read it as a wifi issue..sorry..yeah I had the same thing where wimax wouldn't connect..had to flash back to DI18 to get it working :/
Well I Odin'd back to stock DI18 and still same issue bit since I'm back to stock 2.1 I guess ill head to sprint store.

4g stuck
I know this is an old thread but i have this issue from time to time. I go to school where I have no connection at all, voice or data, and when i get back home where i have solid 4g coverage it wont connect and just hangs on "obtaining IP address". I know nothing is defective because it has done this in the past and it eventually starts working the next day. Anyone find out anything new?

[Q] Epic Won't Connect to 4G

Here's teh scoop...
I was in Vegas at CES and all was fine. I was tethering and 4G was blazing. Left on Friday, got back to SoCal and on Monday my Epic running Bonzai4All (RFS) would no longer connect to the 4G network. Found out from Sprint there was a trouble ticket in my area and 4G was down for a couple days. It's back up now but my phone won't connect anymore. Took it to a corp repair store (after having flashed back to stock of course) but they couldn't fix it so they ordered me a "new" one.
I don't think it's a hardware issue because when I click the 4G icon the phone cycles through SCANNING>CONNECTING>OBTAINING IP ADDRESS and then it just disconnects. Feels more like a programming issue (ie, dialer codes... then some numeric setting somewhere in the programming menu)
Has anyone else had this happen to them. I did nothing to my phone between the time I was in Vegas and back in SoCal so other than the outage, the phone no longer connecting to 4G seems quite random.
4G is noG
I have the epic4g, I live in Vegas.
Although this is supposed to be 4G for the entire city, the phone spends 95% of the time "disconnected" from 4G.
I have already had sprint replace the phone, the same thing happens with the new phone.
It seems its a software issue, if I turn on 4G and move, do anything, it will disconnect. Heck, it even disconnected in the parking lot outside the Sprint store. Of course they kept telling me there was nothing wrong with the phone when they test, so I go outside, try to connect to sprint.com, get error of no connection and bring phone back in.
On a recent trip, I attempted to use 4G to rent a movie for my son. In the course of 30 minutes, it must have disconnected once every 1-2 minutes. It does not reconnect on its own, you have to manually disconnect, then reconnect to get it running again. It appears if you are "mobile", it has major issues. If you are sitting in one place (not walking or anything) it will keep its connection.
Kind of retarded if you ask me - I know 100% its a phone issue, something is messed up. Of course, when I complain to Sprint, I am the only one having this issue.
I am actually going to try to get them to credit me the 10 bucks a month back, after all, I never use 4G - not because I dont want to, its just not worth the hassle. I cannot even browse the web - it disconnects so often I get the no connection error screen. 3G has no issues, but is slow.
I have searched many forums, but cannot find any fixes for this issue. It would appear that you are having the same deal as I am now.
No idea. My phones locked on 4g 80% of the time. While driving, walking etc. Only use 3g in buildings made of kryptonite that block signals.

I live right outside of Baltimore, and according to sprints coverage maps I should have 4g where i live. We all know how coverage maps go, but i am getting the "obtaining ip address" then fail. But I just kind of ignored it and thought nothing of it.
After seeing other people with similar problems, do you think i should have it serviced? i am paying for insurance.
Did anybody figure this out?
This happened to me after flashing a new rom, seemed to work after a reboot.
i have the same problem, and a simple reboot did NOT my problem.
I know for a fact that I get reception in my house, and I've tried in a Sprint Store when I was testing the Photon 4G. Still can't connect; more specifically it disconnects after attempting to obtain an IP address.
I have already tried messing the WiMAX Extension settings in ##3282#
I'm running SyndicateROM Frozen 1.2 | Genocide 2.0 Kernal | EC05 Modem.
Note: 4G was working before i tested UrbanDecay, which was a EG22 ROM. I did flash SRF1.2 with the EG22 installed. i have tried updating the modem and I'm back to EC05. still no luck.
Suggestions?
This happened to me. Some type of data corruption. I had to Odin back to a prerooted tar, not restore anything, test 4G, working then only restored apps with no data. When I did restore data I lost 4G again. So do not restore any data. Set everything back up again.

Then it is what I had feared... After I got so far too! I'm going to have to reformat my SD card while I'm at it. A few of my videos also got corrupted.

Yeah I tried everything first, even had Sprint refresh my phone. I guess some WiMax files got corrupted. You could try a reflash but if your ROM backs up and restores data it probably will still not work. I was able to restore apps only and selectively restore a few apps with Titanium though.

3G no longer working

Hey guys, been up all night and lost several hours of sleep already. I thought someone here might have some insight that can help me.
I have been running CM10.2, decided to go back to a Stock ROM today to update PRL + Profile (Not sure why, just thought I might need it to get connected to new LTE towers in Sacramento).
When booting the MF9 based rom it was asking to do the 'Sprint Hands Free Activation'. It doesn't succeed unless I connect to WiFi. But even if it does succeed, I can't seem to get internet through 3G. After activating I can call phones / text, the 3G icon shows, but no websites work...
On a CM10.2 rom calls and text also work, 3G shows a signal, but no websites work over 3G.
I tried ##72786#, it just forces another 'Sprint Hands Free Activation' with the same symptoms. I tried an Odin of MF9 but it did the same exact thing.
Please help, I can't survive through work without the ability to call/text people. Thanks!
Weird I can successfully ping google.com. So ICMP is getting through, but possibly not UDP/TCP... I am really confused what's going on. There might be a small possibility this is on Sprint's end, but I doubt it.
Wow.. I wasted a whole night on something that is probably Sprint's fault..

Now go get some sleep sir. I'm in Cali too so its 5 am. Lol
