any1 planning to work on 2.2 w/ sense ROM? - G1 General

might sound selfish, but i was wondering if anyone is working on a froyo with sense rom. I really like sense and would like to see it in action on the g1.

Umm 2.2 is kinda slow on g1 without sense... Sense would probably be as slow as syrup dripping off your pancakes in the morning. But I'm sure things will get better. Let these badass devs get things rollin first. I'm sure they will get a sense out there soon enough for ya.

i agree, but sense has been a bit opposite in performance. when it was sense 1.5 it was pretty damn slow, or it get slow in like a day. when it went up to sense 2.1 it was alot faster and stable. just wondering how 2.2 will do with sense, it seems like JIT would be big on helping it run.

Yeah for sure. I'm running froyo right now. Got like 2.3 mflops without jit. Pushing 4.0 mflops with jit running. So it does really help

Well at least we got a leak.....
What the hell are you talking about man!?!?!
We are getting it on the 10th!
And the 13th! and again on the 29th!
And then they are putting out a 2.2 Hero update in memory of that Baby seal Austin kicked and killed
Don't be mad! there are less than 48 hours till Eeyore's birthday! No one can be mad at a time like this!
Look, they just decided to wait till 3.0 gets released, it'll much better.....
Thats for 2.0. We're waiting on 2.1.
oh man, another one of these threads lol.can't wait to see where this one goes
who gives a rats ass about 2.1 anyways. im still rocking a super fast 1.5 setup!
Ok....So looking at that it says Android 2.0...
Last I heard we were getting 2.1......

i agree im rocking a super fast 1.5 build with out all the stoopid audio issues lol no offense to any rom dev you guys rock, i just happen to have to worst hero that doesnt play nice with anybodys roms, but im using fresh kitchen and i got my own rom with 150mb free its sick
The larger point, to me, is this: we can never, ever, count on Sprint for our upgrades. They will always be 6 months behind a remotely tolerable upgrade schedule.
I'm not at all saying "don't buy Sprint", I'm very happy with them. I'm just saying "the community is what matters". Your upgrades come from XDA.

The only reason i want a official release, is so i can use fresh kitchen & make 2.1 roms.

you mean leaks come from xda. myself id rather wait until the final comes out and the devs get their hands on it.
I know I will never run the OTA update, the only reason I'll care is if the devs can make a better rom out of it, but I doubt it will make too much of a difference. the 2.1's we got pretty much have everything working already.
It will not be an ota update. It will be an over the wire update from the "training" materials.
My hope is that when the official 2.1 comes out, some of these little quirks will be gone. For example, an overclocked rom with a working camera would be great.

2.2 With SenseUI Aug 3!!

"Google" The EVO Update As I'm Not Allowed to post links.. BOO.
The EVO gets 2.2 presumably with the SenseUI on August 3rd.. When this is released is there any chance that we will see this flavor of custom rom for our Hero devices?! Hopefully Darch and the other XDA experts wont let us go without.. We can ONLY HOPE!! Hint, Hint, Nudge, Nudge.. Surprised there isn't a leak already.. Or is there!?
There is, i am running full 2.2 100% working on my Evo, and HTC also posted the update.zip on their website, but Devs from the Evo have had sense working for awhile now, but it still hasn't been ported over because of the huge differences in frameworks
I really wish I knew what people liked about SenseUI. It just seems so bulky and slow to me.
darchstar told me many times tonight there will be no 2.2 sense port for the hero. (from the evo) the arch is different
Nfinitefx45 will be working on porting 2.2 sense here soon

Thanks for the info!
I flipped through the EVO dev forum (reluctantly) and saw that they are already up and running on the latest froyo build which is awesome! I'm glad to see that all hope is not lost and that there will be some development for 2.2 with sense. To answer Zardos66 I personally like the facebook contact linking and the look of the UI. It has nothing to do with performance and everything to do with functionality and usefulness. The SenseUI is a bit clunky but I haven't found a happy medium with any of the roms that don't have the SenseUI. Just something I'd like to see and If it can be done I trust that the XDA Pros will knock it out of the park.. I'm very excited to see what can be made of this!! XDA FTW!

I thinks it mainly the widgets. other then that idk.
Im running senses, i've tried an aosp rom, it just didn't feel right, i guess i got used to sense.
But will install cm6 when darch gets into the RCs.

Even with OC, Sense still lags. It's is easy to mimic with less ram taken up.
Launcher pro
2x4 people widget - free
Messaging Widgets - free
Weather and toggle widgets - $1.99
feels good man.
Supposedly we can't port the EVO 2.2 release over to the Hero because the EVO build is designed for a much faster processor. Our Hero couldn't handle such a port without A LOT of tweaking....in other words, almost impossible.
Whenever the HTC Legend gets their 2.2 release, that is probably the build that the devs here will try to port over for us. A couple people have already committed to doing this.

Darch released RC0 a few builds ago, i am currently running Not my dog too build and all is pretty well. Camera app is still pretty much useless but Camera Magic is a quick fix. The gallery is pretty messed up with auto rotate and such, but aside from pictures it is a MAJOR improvement over eclair. My Hero runs like a champ!
does it change anything that the desire got a sense 2.2 today also?

no still built on the snap dragon processor and is HDPI (high res) this is why we are waitng on the legend , it is the cousin to the hero in terms of processor and the fact that it is our exact resolution MDPI (medium). the legend is supposed to be on froyo within the next two months.

If it is gonna be anything like eclair release, I'm not holding my breath till around christmas, which is when the next major version of Android is supposed to be released. I bet by that time Sprint drops all support for their 6 month old Evo like they did with out Heroes, too!
Sigh I want froyo with sense.

the bottom line is the hero should of got the 2.2 update. sprint isn't doing a good job of supporting their phones at all. i owned the evo for a week and while i liked the speed & size the pitfall was the battery life. none of the tweaks worked and you had to disable every feature of the phone.
The nexus one looks so good. Still. So much support for it. Being googles baby it will probably get gingerbread. Just saying almost a year old and still one of the best phones. ("Did I get ripped off?" I sometimes wonder)
i just heard droid users are getting froyo today. this is a bunch of bull**** and im pissed at htc. i should of kept my evo. talk about dropping the ball with the hero!
There will be no port from the Ego since there's wayy to much things to change its almost impossible, but our hope of 2.2 is from the legend!

GB with Sense 2.x...who will release rom first???

of all the great developers we have in EVO community.
Gingerbread with new sense ROM:
who will be the first to release a functioning (daily driver) for EVO?
my votes for Myn.
id hope for myn or the creator of mikfroyo.
im dying to get a ginger/sense rom. cm7 + my evo do not play well.

no offense to calk but he seems to take alot of time in porting roms over. id say myn or virus may be on top of this one.
one thing that ive noticed is the change to the framework in ginger, well at least aosp roms. all of your png's are usually in just the framework & htc-resource apks. now i see there is another apk called systemui that also comes into play. so anyone like me who likes to manually theme and mod roms may ruin into issues. im sure the devs have noticed this change too.
I would like to see a gingerbread bread rom with stock sense and not a modified one like myn or mikfroyo.
I think I have to go with this dev...

Now i kno Team Whiskey is out working on Gingerbread, but i remember they made a fast transition from Eclair to Froyo, but now from Froyo to Gingerbread is taking quite sometime.
Now im not rushing, im good with trigger right now...
But I want to know why was the transition so fast from Eclair to Froyo, whats the core differences in development?

because there is no official leak of Gingerbread for Vibrant yet.
They had a Froyo leak, that's why.
They are building this Gingerbread off the i9000 most likely, so give them some time.
Actually eugene built macnut off of the i9k froyo he even got gps working before the vibrant 2.2 leaks starting coming out. Honestly I don't think their working on it as much as you think they all got new phones and moved on. Hopefully eugene will step in and get us 2.3 im sure he can
Pretty sure Eugene got a G2 about a month ago. Gave up on the Vibrant.

Actually if you follow him on twitter he got his Vibrant back and he actually made a new rom for the vibrant (Ginger Clone RC3). Its good to have him back. And about the GPS people are wondering about why don't you guys just ask him if he got the GPS working before the froyo leak or after.
I beleive TW stopped working on the Gingerbread ROM actually. Krylon was the main person developing and he is doing work with other phones now/updating the 2.2.1 Frost. I wouldn't expect a TW 2.3 anytime soon.. . unless a leak hits.
Guys... Did we forget ebaitr already
That's the kind soul who leaked froyo for us!
This is when the gps ever worked for the first time.

There's nothing left to really do until we have a leak. And honestly even if they are done its all good we have plenty of stuff available to us and if I remember right they had the first experimental gingerbread out... so I don't know exactly what you are asking about. Either way if I had spent the last x months working on all this mess and hit a wall because of available information I would take advantage of the time off...

I've tried virus' kingdom rom port for the evo. sure, visually I thought sense was "appealing" but in the end it's still sense to me. too much stuff/clunky imo.
Plenty of the widgets have similar alternatives so that part doesn't bother me like it used to.
Aosp is always at it's latest and greatest, tag that along with CM and it's even better
Although I will say the 3.0 sense lockscreen is pretty nice I wouldn't mind having that...

I hated my phone after a while with the stock 2.1 and the bluetooth issue was frustrating and it was slow. The Sensible Gingerbread rom is actually pretty nice and it is getting further along every other day. The lockscreen is really cool too. But, this thing is a lot snappier than stock and it's 2.3.4 with a working camera and mms. You might want to try it. I was a sense naysayer before trying it out myself.
There's nothing wrong with having as many options as possible IMO.

thats what i was getting at if the release the HTC sdk and make some of the sense 3.0 for older phones you could strip down a htc rom or add what little to a rom that you want. it would give every one that flashes or builds rom more options.
